going to be in london for a work related conference then have a week free after. Need some recommendations on cool things to see in the area or even around the whole of UK if transportation doesn't take too long. I tend to avoid crowds of people and the standard boring touristy stuff so while something like stonehenge might be on the list, I've heard its kind of lame once youre there but it depends on what people recommend here.Interested in amazing nature and cool sights but think I should also knock out obvious stuff like big ben and london bridge off the list even though I have a feeling they will be overcrowded and underwhelming. It might be wrong. Any recommendations on things worth seeing and things that just werent worth the time? I won't be driving myself since I'm an idiot and would eventually get in an accident confusing the side of the road to drive on so it will all be either ubers or public transport. The quicker the better. want to get a drink in a proper classic pub for sure. I want to see the fat soccer guy there banging a drum and yelling CAMMAN ENGLUND. Any recs for places to have a drink also are welcome.

Other than that, take the double decker bus somewhere and make sure you have a license for everything on your person (including your thoughts) at all times. >>2896959I did some free walking tours in London which were honestly pretty cool.Mostly though I enjoyed the UK more outside the cities. The smaller towns and villages were great. The nature didn't tend to be dramatic but it was gorgeous. I'd say Kent and the Cotswolds were my favourite.

You'll struggle for nature from london by train.Maybe try Windsor? Windsor Castle (and The Long Walk), Dorney Court (check if it's open to the public when you go) and a generally nice town centre.Outside of that, Hampton Court Palace is a must if you've any interest in the Tudors or want to see an old stately home.The museums and art galleries are great. British Museum, National History Museum, Science Museum are the big three.You're not going to get a friendly community pub in London because you don't really get that in central London. I wouldn't recommend doing to a pub full of Premier League fans on match day (you may not get past a bouncer anyway). That aside there are still pubs of all kind in London, you can either look up one for recomendations or find one on a random corner to go in and see if you like the look of it. I would recommend a non-chain countryside pub with a hand written menu and properly cooked food but again, you're not driving, they're hard to get to.

If you are used to the Amtrak even going from London-Edinburgh may seem light, but if you're from the Netherlands you'd find it insufferable.List of things:- Stonehenge, see if there's public transport that goes along road from where you can view Stonehenge without paying the exorbitant entry fee. If you're in the area, would recommend trying to visit some of the Avebury sites, Old Saren and taking a pit-stop in Salisbury.- You can visit the Houses of Parliament for free, you need to book a time-slot. No need to pay. Can't go up Big Ben but can view it from many scenic areas. By 'London Bridge' do you mean Tower Bridge? All are walkable, just try not to get stabbed if you go on London Bridge.- Note - Travel north of Thames in London easy take tube or walk, from north-south more awkward need bus or long walk.- Food - All best food in Elephant and Castle, area would get ripped apart on /pol/ but I like it. Shawarma Hut is very cheap and has generous portions. Nearby East Street Market is the scummiest market on Earth lol but it is fun.- Free things, London. Best Hunterian imo, medical museum lots of dissection, preserved tumours and shit. Others inc. NHA, British Museum, V&A need to book generally in advance. Too many crowds in those tho.- Check pop-ups in London, there's always free events and stuff.- Proper pub anywhere, even east street market despite being overwhelmingly Nigerian had a pub full of miserable bald-headed Bongs. Just avoid the pubs that are clearly for tourists.- Viewpoints can try Sky Garden but awkward to book, there's a free one nearby you just walkup anyway (Garden at 120). Honestly view from Greenwich hill is better than any skyscraper.- Head west tube to Richmond, has a pleasant stream and nice wildlife. No 'amazing' nature in the UK nor dramatic scenes, its not Brazil, UK is understated by nature

Transport good enough you don't need Uber. From London can get bus/ train anywhere, both overpriced, bus often moreso for how long it takes to get places. Make sure to look at return deals, some carriers give better offers than you think. Trainpal best for booking trains no 1 quid commission (damn you trainline!) Trip good too. If you're taking lots of trains pay the 30 quid to get railcard, some sites had deals to get it half price, dunno if still the case.

The 'historic' bit is literally a street, all the historic areas in England are massively overstated and use manipulative camera angles to make them look bigger than they are. Harrogate as some anon mentioned is a better place to visit but both are so out-of-the-way for a week trip. Royal Armories are good and I prefer Leeds to Manchester and Birmingham. Otherwise nothing to do in Leeds really. It seems like you're doing a token visit of two 'north' towns to tell your friends you went up north. You've got a week, just stay in the south. Bath okay if you like that period. Decent transport connections. Recommend visiting the Cotswolds if you're going to be in the area.
