last year in China I moved between several hotels and they all had a 2PM check in, I almost always showed up an hour or two early and they've always given me the room on the spot with no issue
>>
OP clearly hasn't traveled much. How early you can check in depends on the hotel, availability of rooms, and luck. I have been able to check into my room before noon plenty of times.
>>
>>2897716
politly you have not been to asia.
japan will not lock you check in while youre up for 30 hours.

I comment on Japan but I've never had a problem with it in SE Asian, India or Nepal.

You can easily solve this problem by booking bigger and more expensive hotels.

also i have always found that hotels in asia are much more likely to agree to late checkouts

Granted I was maybe 30-60 mins before the check in time, but I've been to several places in Japan that let me check in early. At the very least all the places I've been to let me leave my baggage for safekeeping, allowing me to do whatever during the day.

APA is a low-end, substandard chain, like the rest of the "business hotel" category of Toyoko, Sun Route, Super Hotel, etc. in Japan that local wagecucks are sent to when they have work travel. Even Marriott has adapted to the local market in Japan, with brands like Four Points (nee by Sheraton) Flex and City Express (yes the chain from Mexico that only earns 1/2 elite qualifying nights) brought in to compete in this category.

When you stop being poor and travel like a normal person, or better yet as a guest with hotel status, I've never had a problem with early check-in or late check out (where available, availability permitting, outside specific markets where everything is upsold by convention like Las Vegas, etc.)

Also, be aware that this business is subject to seasonal demand, high and lows based on availability, and operations will respond accordingly. If you're not a moron and recognize how the industry and specific business works in general, if you really want something then pay for it, etc., everything makes perfect sense and you're getting exactly what you paying for.

i wandered around tokyo until i could handle it anymore. i dont trust being a weird looking white in an empty downtown tokyo to not be heckled about why i didnt have room...
but it isnt bad. ive slept in a private bathroom in bergen norway waiting for my train back to oslo before. i was going to camp in the higway offramp but i set up my bag and a huge truck saw me so i walked back to the station, paid the 1 euro to unlock the door, unplugged its mechanism and propped up a mat on this ledge in there...
>>
>>2897657
That's not my experience in Asia. Asian hotels mog North American hotels into the grave.

You've never been to Japan
>>
>>2897662
Then fucking show up at the standard check-in time, what's so hard about that. You stay at cheap hotels, you'll have to cope with their cheapness. Most cheap hotels I stayed in India had 12 pm check-in times. They barely even clean the rooms, often remaking the bed instead of changing anything. Toilet gets a wipe with the same wet cloth used to wipe the sink. A little sweeping and you're all set.
>>
>>2897936
That's disgusting. Slumping in a shitting stall like a strung out junkie and fucking with the workings. People who vandalize public bathrooms should get waterboarded with diarrhea slurry.
>>
>>2897729
It sounds like you've been to Asia exactly once and your experience comes from a single cheapo hotel. I have been able to check in early in plenty of hotels in many different Asian countries. Then again I'm not a poorfag so I stay in nice ones. At worst, I can still leave my luggage with them while they get my room ready.
>>
>>2897929
I love Super Hotel. It's so Japanese. It's also often at convenient locations. No frills, and no early checkin possibility, but it's good value for money.

APA has cramped ass rooms. The only people who think it's anything but a cheap low-middle end hotel also thinks Tamago Sando are some incredible meal.

Exactly the same thing with me in Osaka, including having my luggage in my room when I came back to check in. Strange, cause it's never happened in any other city in Japan whenever I've dropped off my luggage early.

APA Hotels in Tokyo are notorious for being used by SEA prostitutes, especially trans. If you stay at APA in roppongi you will see trans escrots a lot and randoms gong in and out
>>
>>2898107
I usually try to get a room that's under $100 (CAD) per night, and the one in Osaka was one of them. I dunno, I can't remember which hotel it was so maybe it technically wasn't a "business hotel", but the room and price sure felt like one.

If they have empty clean rooms at 8am then business isn't good.
>>
>>2898371
anon APA's have no shows, people checking out at 5am-8am that staff is told to clean first.

You are retarded if you do't think they have rooms open at 2PM, but magically have them open at 3
>>
>>2898333
The things is hotel in Japan don't cost that much. Pay double the price of APA, and you get comfy room sizes, a bathroom that's not cramped, later check out times, and hotel reception that's fluent in English. You don't have to pay big money to stay in Hilton's or something.
>>
>>2898378
APA is higher quality and those hotels for obese Americans at twice the price have the same check-in time anyway
>>
>>2898320
My take is: it's what is written in the rule book and what the staff was instructed to do.
If this is the price to pay for on time public transport then so be it.
>>
>>2897657
as everyone has already mentioned, this is a poor people problem. i've checked in as early as 1030am and check out as late as 4.30pm.

that being said, this has never happened in Japan. I think theyre really strict on timings, even if it's low season and rooms are available.
>>
>>2898378
Why do you need a large hotel room? You should only be in your room to shit shower or sleep. I dont understand this obsession with space. APA hotels are top tier cleanliness, ammenties and services. Nothing lacking
>>
>>2898481
>Why do you need a large hotel room? You should only be in your room to shit shower or sleep. I dont understand this obsession with space.
Exactly. If I can I just filter by size and only choose the rooms less than 10m2. Small rooms are more comfy and feel better to sleep in
>>
>>2898484
Also I dont understand the anon calling APA cheap, its 100 a night any time of the year unless youre in Japan in the middle of July. Is that poorfag price now? Unless you are legitimately a millionare with infinite money to blow, there is serious diminishing returns to paying double that for a room anywhere in Japan.

When Im in Japan Im there for 4 or 5 weeks, thats 3k just for hotel, if that makes me a poorfag then most travelers must be in abject poverty
>>
>>2898496
$100 a night is poverty tier. $300-$500 a night is middle class. Somewhere solid like the Park Hyatt is going to run $800 to $1000.
>>
>>2898538
This has to be the most out of touch shit ive ever read

>>2898379
If you want to play up the "it's Japan" like the weeaboo you, visit anything ranked higher than APA in Japan and you can see the same difference. It does not take a genius to (even a moron like you can) see that APA is strictly worse (math meaning) than any other higher tier competitor because APA in ON PURPOSE a low quality product for the low-end and is priced accordingly. If you weren't such a loser back home, your Japanese colleagues will tell you APA as a chain and its ilk are categorically bad and that's how even Japanese people thinks of them. You have to be one of those morons marveling at Japanese convenience stores to actually think it's a desirable place to stay at.

>>2898496
APA is cheap in quality, but is actually very aggressive in revenue management (yield). Toyoko, Sun Route, Super Hotel, etc. all sell the same junk product, but operators like Toyoko sells it for the same price almost every night. APA is less moronic, and actually runs modern day yield management programs that sets prices high when in-demand, and low when no demand. YMMV what you pay when you book, but the cheap low-end product remains the same (akin to paying full-fare economy prices but getting a low cost carrier seat).
>>
>>2898546
You have never been to an in-demand destination (and are poor). Deal with it.

Some examples around the world: Hawaii is regularly $300-$500/night, French Polynesia starts at $800 to $1000/night. it's funny, you can actually pay $100 a night in Hawaii... for a capsule hotel.
>>

I'm renting a room in Taiwan for $150 a month, you can rent a room in a sharehouse in Japan easily for sub-$250 a month if you speak a little japanese
