How much of the "old" Akihabara still exists? I've never visited Japan before but I've wanted to mainly for their retro and vintage technology. From a few friends who've been I've heard there is much less of those shops nowadays. Is it still worth a trip if that's my main interest in visiting?.
>>2899163Most of it's gone, super potato and some doujin shops are around, some of the electronic part stores are there. COVID shut down a lot of the niche shops and chinese/gacha sloppa stores have shoveled in. It's worth still if you never been, just realize 90% of the anime stores are cookie cutter copies.Nakano has more older things and same with Ikebukoro, ironically osaka's DenDen town has more the feel of precovid akihabara than aki does today.
>>2899164That sucks, but I guess the cookie cutter tourist trap shit makes more money than niche shops.Makes me sad though, nothing interesting about going into those types of places, no charm to them.
>>2899163>I've never visited Japan before but I've wanted to mainly for their retro and vintage technology. From a few friends who've been I've heard there is much less of those shops nowadays.you can get everything good from a random hardoff in the sticks. akihabara is a meme
>>2899163It's fat old tourists now. It's really just strange walking around there and seeing 70 year old obese Italians and Americans walking around and looking confused like they just got off a cruise ship and have no clue where they are. Most people in Akihabara just seem to be there to check off another tourist site. Almost none have interest in weeb stuff, and the shops have changed to reflect that.
>>2899163go to mikado arcades in takadanobaba and in ikebukuro for some vintage fighting games and treasure bullethell shooters
