Can anyone tell me what the FUCK is going on with countries demanding health insurance all of a sudden?Last time I traveled internationally was back in 2019 then this year out of the blue every time I go on Youtube I get an ad (I don't use Youtube as much as I did in the past so that's why I don't bother with an ad blocker) for health insurance to travel abroad.I've done some digging around and apparently countries are demanding it to prevent tourists from getting treatment for free(?)Like, how often do tourists get injured or sick to warrant this measure, the danger of national healthcare systems getting overwhelmed is realistically very low. What happened to doctors having to swear the Hippocratic Oath in order to get their license? Just eat the L and move on.

Buying health insurance (or any insurance) is mathematically equivalent to budgeting a fixed amount every month on lottery tickets. You're putting in a relatively small amount every month and gambling that someday you'll get a big payout. Except in the case of insurance often the price of admission isn't that small and the payout isn't that big. It's a racket by mathfags to get rich off of fear.

Thailand's 20K baht cash requirement is basically a form of guarantee that you will have enough to pay for such things. However, you do have to watch for them trying to squeeze more money out of you by selling you unnecessary & overpriced medicines and gauzes from the hospital dispensary.
