We are planning to go to Florida later this year to look for a home. We have 7 days to do this. We've been to Orlando many times before, but not so much elsewhere.

Any suggestions on the best way to do this?

If it helps:

- We have to move. Our street is going to undergo a massive multi-year project that we don't want any part of.

- Jobs/Kids are not an issue.

- We are not fixed on any place yet, but we aren't interested in the Miami area and we don't plan to live directly on the coast due to storm concerns.

Who's "we"? You and I? I'm not buying a house with you.

My parents are selling their home but I don’t think you can afford the $500,000 price tag. 2 arc land, house, working utilities, water well pump and storage to fit 2 grass cutting machines (the driving one). A very nice place that deer visited, no bad neighbors and 5 min drive to shops.

The best kept secret is Indian River county, you can get a flight to there too and it is a very quiet airport. As a rule, do not move to Gifford or Fellsmere (respectively, all the blacks and Mexicans live in those two settlements), but it is a pretty safe area all around.

I live in a neighboring county and I would happily move there (my county is the second best in my opinion). The worst parts are the panhandle away from the coast and military bases (more like living in Alabama, which is not horrible, but not as comfy or as pleasant) or the area surrounding Lake Okerchibee (high crime). Honestly, I would avoid the Tampa metro too, no clue why people shill that place (Hillsborough and Pasco counties are Hell holes).

The airport you want is Vero Beach, believe me, it is a very pleasant airport. If you have to work into another county, work North into Brevard, then South into St Lucie as a matter of preference.

Fuck off. The housing market has already been inflated like crazy and priced out natives from the see of people moving down here. We’re tired of it. You’ve ruined the state enough and made everything more expensive.

Thanks. I will do some research on those areas.

I grew up in Vero. Moved there in 89.
It is boring as fuck. If you are really into snorkeling for lobster and refuse to get a boat, it's great if it doesn't rain and the ocean is dead calm for a few days. You can beach launch and get lobster.
The fishing has its moments.
But everyone drives slow as fuck, the town is becoming sprawl, and it's a ripoff.

The Atlantic from Daytona on up gets fewer storms historically and is a much better value. April in North Florida and even May especially early can be nice. In Vero it's already miserably hot, and North Florida cools off earlier as well.

People shill Tampa Bay because it has old people shit like Vero but everything else too.

The Gulf summer is even worse than the Atlantic.

Imho this. I sold a condo and i rent. Stocks dabbing on housing. If we didn't have some quiet hurricane seasons in the nick of time, shit would have gone tits up insurance-wise.
Mortgage rates are high as are assets.
OP should post more info. Do you just want a Target and Walmart? Do you want a city, suburbs, rural?

I don't see the difference between the Panhandle interior and anything else rural North of Lake Okeechobee. St. Lucie County is more affordable than Martin/Indian River but it's not like Vero is any less a provincial idiot redneck shithole once you go over the bridge. Brevard County is even more hick.
You can think of Jacksonville, Daytona, Orlando, Tampa, and the West Palm to Miami stretch as The Bronx with palm trees, and everything else is Alabama.

Where is the best climate, least colored people?
>>

If you want it as warm as possible, an island in the Keys between Key Largo and Key West.

If you want the longest Winter possible, Fernandina Beach, Mexico Beach, or maybe The Villages.

Most places have a rich place and surrounding poors. Vero has Ft. Pierce, Gifford, and Fellsmere. Sarasota, Naples, South FL similar.

If you want your kids to attend lily white public schools, it's crushing rural poverty or maybe Islamorada/Tavernier? My prison rules gym classes at Gifford Middle and Vero Beach Junior High School were way more terrorizing than anything I've seen in El Salvador/Nicaragua/Mexico.
