I went to New York for the first time a few years ago and really enjoyed it! It's expensive, and it can be crowded and trashy in certain areas. Otherwise there's so much to see and do (e.g. world class museums, food, live music, parks to sit and watch people)

It’s great if you’re in your 20s and not poor. Once you get older it sucks.

As a poorfag I lived in Queens in Sunnyside. It has good connectivity to Manhattan through the 7 train and rent for a room was only $800 a month incl utilities. But its sleepy out there and bad for dating. If I could do it over I would stay in Jersey City instead. The hipster part of Brooklyn is also good, Nolita is good value if you can find a room. Personally not afraid of N's so Harlem is viable imo. If you want to live around white basedboy redditors and never see N's Astoria Queens is a good pick

Living in Manhattan is important because it allows you to access all of the boroughs easily. NYC uses a spoke and wheel transit system with Manhattan as the center, so if you want to get from the Bronx to Queens you have to go through Manhattan, same thing with Queens to Brookyln

So Manhattan is a good area if you're just starting out and don't know where you'll be hanging out with or where the girls you want to date live. Most of it is stupidly expensive. After some time there you'll get a feel on the city and can zero in on more options. A lot of it is counterintuitive, you will develop friendships and affinities with people you don't expect, so it's important to have an open mind.

No social stigma, just bad logistics. ex if you live in Queens and you want to see a Bronx girl, it will take 1 hr 40 minutes. Bronx to Manhattan is about 30 minutes. Manhattan has Queens, Brooklyn, Bronx, Jersey City all in a 30 minute radius. Queens only has itself and Manhattan within 30 mins, BK only has itself and Manhattan within 30 mins etc

Living in a city is a different story. Living in the center of a major city, no place I ever spent much time in or ate at was a chain unless I happened to be craving mcdonalds or taco bell. You barely saw chains outside of the tourist parts, or deep in the neighborhoods where it starts getting more suburban. Clothes and groceries? Sure, but that's not the appeal of a city.

not entirely true. im one of those basedboys in astoria and its not terrible to get to the bronx, you take the N/W to Lex/59th and then hop on an express uptown and you can be there in under an hour. Also the N runs straight to Brooklyn so its under an hour to get to downtown brooklyn, it takes a bit longer to get to deep brooklyn and coney island. the best thing about astoria is if you work in midtown you basically have a backdoor to get there, if you live in brooklyn you have to go all the way through lower manhattan first, if you live in the bronx you have to catch an express. the N/W/R runs along 59th or you can catch the 7 at queensboro plaza and get right to grand central.

it depends on where you're going, what part of brooklyn you're talking about, and what you plan on doing after work. chances are you're not living in downtown brooklyn, you're going to be living a bit farther in around bushwick or ridgewood which is where most yuppies move to these days. if you have to get to midtown everyday for work that means you have to take a subway all the way through brooklyn, all they way through the financial district, through lower manhattan to finally make it to your office, which would suck. if you work in the financial district its worth it. it also depends on what you're going to be doing after work. if you plan on going out to raves and clubs every day definitely live in brooklyn. if you're looking for good grocery stores where you can pick up fresh ingredients every day and cook a good meal for yourself, live in queens.

dating in the city isn't really about where you are, its about who you are. girls here really only want to date known guys, popular guys, and rich guys. if you don't have a lot of followers on instagram, or you don't have 5 million+ net worth, or you don't have a lot of friends, you're probably not getting laid a ton. if you're tall and attractive its always a different story, you'll be able to pull here, but you'll instantly be met with tall and attractive guys who are also very interesting. that being said, hanging out in brooklyn bars is way easier to pick up girls in than queens bars because brooklyn tends to be younger and more "wild" than queens. but Gen Z really isn't partying as much as millennial women at all, so don't expect anything too grand. if you're still under 27 you can go to bars around FIT or NYU downtown manhattan and hit on grad students but they are extremely picky. other than that, most bars are going to be sausage fests, and you're going to be competing with the best of the best men from all over the world to even get a scrap of pussy.

I've been to NYC 3 times and I just don't get the big deal, it's just a bunch of buildings. I've been to several small cities that were much more interesting. Even when I went to Vegas it was loads more interesting than New York.
