I lived in Nogales, AZ (white tho) and went with my ex to Guanajuato city for a long weekend. I just remember making copious amounts of love and it felt kind of like coastal Italy weirdly. Beautiful place to be romantic, just be careful for Narcos if you leave the tourist center and be aware of roadblocks to the airport etc.
I was there about 6 months ago. They don't like white people there, pretty openly racist about too kek. Most Mexicans don't like whites anymore because they're driving up all the prices (San Miguel de Allende). Lots of cute university girls there though.

Just finishing a 2 week cdmc-puebla-oaxaca trip. It was great. Felt perfectly safe, and mexicans overall are pretty friendly and nice people. I cant speak spanish and everyone still tried their best to help out. Id recommend learning some before you go bc mexico is mostly monolingual.
