Amanoi was their last good, outstanding opening
Aman Tokyo was the beginning of getting shitty

in the last ~5 years they went from a reasonable splurge to low quality (for what you expect), completely overpriced and having better competition
like Bvlgari Tokyo is better by almost any measure and less than half the price for the same room
some of their resorts are still fine
but again better options

it's 90% "discussion" about hotels, some villa or yacht rental stuff and every noon an actual useful post about cool "fat" experiences

some of the best hotels in the world
like most of small luxury boutique hotels, or plenty cool lodges for Safaris do not have that and they often will "refuse" to book this (or rather suggest something where they get commission on)

aman is a luxury hotel chain, mostly resorts, with relatively few rooms
and they got kinda famous for their aesthetics and exceptional hyper personalized service
before they came staff to guest rations of >4:1 were almost unheard of
the service improvement are mostly small gimmicks though like all the staff will know your name and they pick up your habits quickly

if you can, worth going to one of their classic resorts once or doing the Bhutan circuit

Have you been to their lodges in Bhutan? What are they like?
I'm taking my mother to Bhutan next year and I'm willing to splurge a bit to celebrate her getting though chemo, she's mostly interested in trekking but it would be nice to stay somewhere special at the atart/end of the trip.

yes to all 5 of them
just search through a /trv/ archive for Bhutan threads, I wrote multiple times about it extensively

if she can hike a little properly, it'll be a lot cooler
but even if not, the lodges themselves are really good themselves

you can do (half) day treks from all lodges (think like ~500m elevation on ~10km)
we did as well, almost daily
you can write them and they send you some information on it
half days are probably the best because you can do a SPA or other activity in the afternoon
though keep in mind that you will always have a guide with you hiking, so it's a different experience than what you can have in like the European Alps

their Bhutan properties are priced low to mid for Aman
but expect to pay ~2,5-3k/night all in (with food and treatments unless you go excessive)
Bhutan itself is quite expensive to travel to, so comparatively it's fine

if you want to end your trip with it
just to a few nights at the Paro lodge for Tigers Nest and wellness
as it has the largest SPA / wellness area out of all the Bhutan Amans (with Punakha second)

it's not intrusive and goes largely unnoticed unless you pay attention
but you get used to it pretty quickly and then other hotels feel inattentive and unpersonal, that's why they have such a loyal customer base

if you're staying in 5-10k/night suites, you likely have a 200k+ yearly travel budget
why the fuck would you go to a personified hotel booking engine
unless they start harassing the hotel / GM for your sake (which they won't) you will get exactly the same stay

when r/chubbytravel started it was better
until the TA mod got shitty as well
also 500-3k/night hotels are usually not a giant waste of money like Amangiri or similar
and now r/truechubbytravel is just gossip about the other shitty shill travel subs, without much content making it shitty as well

i swear, the in person travel offices where my parents went with me 20y ago every time I wanted to go to some place I saw in National geographic
are much less shitty / shady than these subs (which could be much much better in theory)
