For a solo trip, my flights and accommodation have both been paid for. Now I’m trying to calculate how much money to have in case shit hits the fan? I was thinking maybe budget for food, drinks, general spending and then double that number?

I don’t have credit cards or friends or family so I just want to be safe.

>How much money for emergencies
depends on what you mean by emergencies

>I was thinking maybe budget for food, drinks, general spending and then double that number?
if you just mean general spending variance
+50% is more than enough (if you're not stupid)

for real emergencies
I typically think of 3 (progressively worse) cases I want to cover
>how can I get home IMMEDIATELY from wherever I am (light version would be to my nearest embassy)
>what do I do if I get robbed (assumes I keep my basic wallet with passport & backup credit card which I always carry directly on my body under clothing as holster)
>how do I get medical treatment in case I cannot move anymore
last minute flights home from anywhere are usually <2000€ and hiring a private driver / taxi to get to the next airport is also <500€ except some rare cases
getting robbed means getting a new phone and basic necessities so <1000€ is enough for that
medical emergency cost depends on where you go, of course have travel insurance, but they only pay afterwards
helicopter evacuations are ~2-3k in something like the european alps, but can get more expensive in rural 3rd world countries
personally I feel safe with 10k€ backup, which affords private clinics + helicopter everywhere but the USA

so my backup credit card with a >15k€ limit covers all that comfortably

>I don’t have credit cards
why?
that's literally what they are for.
You can get a free one and preload it before the vacation (assuming you get a low limit), then take back the money after you get back

just get a credit card you dont have to use it just have it as a backup.

Thanks.
Didn’t even think about all possible medical emergencies, and I definitely don’t have a 15k sitting around, maybe I’ll have to rethink the trip or just take the risk lol.

I should’ve been more clear I literally can’t get a credit card I have something called a CIFAS marker on my name in my country, so even if I wanted one I can’t

>Didn’t even think about all possible medical emergencies
and depending on where you go it really doesn't matter
the more developed the country and the closer to "civilization" (read cities) you travel the less relevant
like in most of Europe you will get emergency care no matter what and it will cost very little

I do travel a lot to rural places in less well served countries
where you have to rely on private, often expensive infrastructure
that's more of a worry

>and I definitely don’t have a 15k sitting around
and you shouldn't
that's the point of having a credit card
you CAN spend it, just in case, but you don't need to

>maybe I’ll have to rethink the trip or just take the risk lol
it's really not that expensive to get most if covered
credit cards are often given out for free (if you have an income), travel insurance is like ~10-20€/year and a holster / slim fanny bag is like 20€
that really covers 99% if you just do a regular trip

Enough money for a ride to either the embassy or airport and money to buy the next earliest flight back home.

My personal retirement stoploss is $5000. I know that at $5000 in the bank, I can fly to a marquee US city from anywhere in the world, pay two month's rent and deposit on a small room for rent, and have enough left over to comfortably feed myself while I find a job - any job. Usually takes a couple of days at most to get hired. Flipping burgers, waiting tables, temp agency, doesn't matter. Once I fly back and get a temporary job I keep monkey branching until I have better jobs, until the day comes when I retire again and leave the US.

My last stint I banked roughly $12k in 5 months of working / 6 months living in NYC. At a burn rate of $0.5k a month living abroad, that's 24 months of retirement, but I also do trading when the market conditions are right. From trading, my take profit or stop loss is the same number as my monthly budget, 500 a month. So as long as I go +1 trading per month I am effectively retired indefinitely. I might get bored someday and go back to the US and wage slave for a few months off of my own volition though, for old time's sake and also because I don't have enough credits to qualify for social security yet.

Umm... get travel insurance?
>>
Just get a credit card
>>
>>2902978
I carry 3000 usd plus 20k in gold chains and some diamonds
>>
Emergency funds really are unnecessary if you don't take stupid risks. But it feels good to return to your home country and continue traveling instead of having to get right into the wagecage - which would really ruin your enjoyment of your home country. So having money laying around does feel good.

Where do u usually go travel off too when u quit your burger job?
Is it easy to get approved for rent with your lifestyle?

>if you don't take stupid risks
yeah, like crossing a street in vietnam or using an atm in india
