Starting in Aprile of next year, I will go live near Copenhagen for about six months, for work reasons. I will stay there until about September or October 2027.
I think it'd be a good idea to seize the opportunity and visit the Faroe Islands. I haven't checked thoroughly yet, but I think direct flights from Copenhagen or some other Danish airport would be the cheapest and most convenient way to reach the Faroe.
I'm torn on when exactly I should plan my visit. The most obvious option would be either July or August, so I have as many hours of sunlight as possible, but I'm worried about crowds and high prices. That's the reason I'm also considering September. I am mostly going there for hiking. If I can eat whale meat and see (or eat) puffins, that's even better.
Any insight or discussion regarding the Faroe would be welcome. Is it really necessary to rent a car or is it feasible to move around just with public transport?

If you can then get a car, more rural places have very few buses per day and you arent tied to them that way.
From my expirience faroes are all about the atmosphere. Living in some grass covered roof cotage, hiking the cliffs, panoramics views ect. Somw people will get bored of it in a span of 1-2days, but its an wxpirience for the others.
Everything is pricy thou because of the danes control the trade, weather can be an ass and change suddenly ( like torrential rains all day) so prepare some good jacket. Theres none vegetation/trees beside one park in capital and airport can be a bitch to land on (ive been to 60 countries, got houndred airports under my belt, but faores was actualy the worst one when it comes to lanfing. We corcled it like 30 min, when back to scotland to refill, because pilot didnt want to risk it. Then we tried another time and despite havy covrage that dude decided to try one time before he gave up. There was a havy turbulance and suddenly a vliffhead appeared like 30m from the wing. He did a 30% sudden turn because otherwise we would hit it with our wing. I like to fly but that landing was a bit terrifing.
