I've lived abroad for 25 years now. 15 different countries. I never once wanted to go back. I never will. Anons out there, how many countries and how long? Why won't you ever go back?

Go fuck yourself. I’ll never get to live my dream of living in Thailand, getting fluent, and getting pussy regularly. Fuck you

I don't give a shit about OP, but I always have a good laugh when you have another outburst about not being able to live in Thailand.

>went to college but didn't get a relevant job
>blew through inheritance
>worked as a TSA agent despite hating black people
Way to disappoint your mother in hell.

Serious question, not being a cunt here. Do you really like it ? I feel like each time I am traveling, it's kind of the same. You meet new people and have the same conversation all over and over again.

And before you call me a little cunt, I was traveling 2/3 month a year when I was like 20, getting drunk and having fun meeting new people but now I can't drink anymore so everything seems boring.
I do travel a little bit, but I am more into doing nature stuff and just do nothing on a good scenary place.

My life kind of suck right now so I am thinking about starting over with a master of 1/2 years in china in I don't know what. Got like 40k euros in saving to do it.
But I am afraid it will be the same than today.
At least I would be motivated to learn Chinese.
>>
>>2903329
Why would you go back? The earth is round. If you keep going forward, eventually you end up back in the USA. It's just another country to explore and experience. Hating on a country just because you were born there is peak travel autist retardation.
>>
>>2904264
Living abroad is different to travelling really. When I travelled recently to Thailand I got speaking to a guy - I guess I presumed we had something in common because we're both out in Thailand so we have some shared experiences/interests. Guy talked my ear off about how he loves being a manager of Dominos in the UK. It was the kind of zeal you save for an interview. I realized he's just a normal conformist dork on holiday. I tend to try and get away from the crowd where I meet real ones travelling. Papau, Myanmar, islands in Indonesia that take several days to get to. I meet people more like me.
In terms of being an expat, it's because more freedom, more spending power, more White privilege 2bh. I enjoy the mental stimulation of understanding a new place, experiencing a new culture and feeling on the edge of something ig. I'm from the UK - it's become a global meme how bad it is there so I don't think I need to explain my motivation. But most people don't like living permanently unsettled. You have to have the mind for it.
>>
>>2904341
>Hating on a country just because you were born there is peak travel autist retardation.
That assumes there is no hierarchy of shittiness. Would you say the same to someone from Bangladesh or is that where your argument falls apart. Some countries are objectively and quantifiably shitholes.
And even the amazing ones are just not for certain personality types. The Swiss live under self imposed petty authoritarianism, governing every aspect of their daily lives. I'd understand if certain personality types find that anathema and want to live somewhere like Phnom Penh

>been traveling for the past 10 years(covid just did USA no changs or tour buses were GOAT)
>had blast bucket list basically done, gave up on Antarctica not big deal to not see anymore after northern Scandinavia
>saved up a healthy amount of cash to spend ~150k+good retirement could have saved more but the last 2.5-3 years kinda spent more on me things
>could just work in PH for a good bit but that requires me to put up with PH shit
>want nothing more than going back to the USA with how fucked things are and chill in a rural place or something working my remote job till AI fucks it or something and forced to be a cashier or some bs shit just to keep myself out of the house

Can't recall the amount of countries I've been through a lot of it blurs together at this point and going back to some place like Korea, Taiwan, Malay, Finland, etc just seem like a bore/chore. Maybe the boomer is hitting in at 34, but to me just not worth keeping up jumping around. Maybe I'll change my tune once back in the USA for a year living in some prefurnished apartment and get tired of some of the USA things, but I doubt it.
>>
>>2904264
>I feel like each time I am traveling, it's kind of the same
Not OP but, I really don't travel unless I have a reason to go somewhere, so no. The only time I get that way is if I am in between visa stays and I decide to stay in some boring ass place like Malaysia, PH, or Indonesia. First time was cool, second time I nailed out how to get around properly, third time was a blast, then every other time just going through the motions and caring less and less.

One of the reasons I want to be in the USA again is just either reset myself to care about being abroad again or realize I just wanna stop due to age. Personally right now I don't know which it is. There is nothing worse than being in say a beach town for 80 some odd days, then looking back at what you did, only to realize you spent a ton of time dicking around some apartment, going to a gym, and maybe a few things here and there. At some point I just look back to friends in the USA I have and it seems to have more appeal at this stage of life.

Maybe if I was a cryptomillionare like so many people supposedly are on this board and could buy myself into the country if needed, I'd have a far different outlook but I ain't.

One of the worst things about living in your home country is the uniformity of life. I've always been a bit odd - strange beliefs, attitude towards life, behavior. In my own country I am peculiar and weird - in Africa, Asia, Latin America etc, my foreignness camouflages my strangeness to the locals and the expats that can see it celebrate it. They are escaping conformity and when they see someone unabashedly different, they celebrate it. Because I give them more space to be eccentric between me and the baseline. That's why I'm weird in my home country and a 'character' in foreign lands.
So you can enjoy living in your home country but watch your mouth talking about the holocaust, keep quiet about your beliefs on gender roles, don't mention your trip to Cambodia, make sure nobody finds out you smash a ladyboy every now and then. And I'll just do whatever tf I want out here. If you already have a completely ordinary, orthodox life and mind, then you're good anyway.
>>
>>2904368
I've always been a bit off the wall in how I act, work, communicate and so on but I do enjoy a bit of the structure. I think a lot depends on where you call home.

If you're eccentric/quirky being that way in say, North Dakota is probably a social death sentence. Same stuff in say DFW, eh probably will find a semi large crowd to mix in with. Context here matters because the way you talk is a very very introverted state or you're so far gone from what USA is that you're just pol-brained and not aware what US is.

>So you can enjoy living in your home country but watch your mouth talking about the holocaust, keep quiet about your beliefs on gender roles
Most the people I would hang out same with bars I will frequent back home have similar stances on these things. This is not a very hot take anymore and you'll have a hard time finding these wierdos who bring it up unless you go to some LGBT bar.
>If you already have a completely ordinary, orthodox life and mind, then you're good anyway.
I mean if you're actually fucking dudes from time to time not sure what to tell you that's a bridge to far for anyone I know. Most people I know who know I've been to thailand check my FB and see the shrines, temples, and events I go to and never think anything of it.
>>
I turned 30, realized what I really wanted to do with my life, realized there was a slew of things I had to do in my 20s first, realized I failed because I wasted them traveling instead, and realized I regret every moment.

So no.
>>
>>2903329
oh, if my home country would offer me pleasant life i might very well consider that. since it won't, well, you gotta find your own way through existence.
that being said, constant movement is exhausting and becomes an eternal ticklist. i want a base to return to for months on end and the rest of the world to travel when that gets boring again. I also quite quickly realised that i will become old at some point, with no more will to keep fighting for survival. Need to be ready when that happens.
>>2904264
yeah, well, if your idea of fun is going to bars then your problem is being a boring person. i like crazy and wild adventures and they never stop happening
>>
>>2904421

>>
>>2904433
Absolutely based. I kneel. You killed my skepticism and made me feel like a boring fag.
>>
>>2904361
Same with my fifth visit to Thailand. The enjoyment and sovlfulness were gone. People were very pleasant in Trat where I ended up, but it no longer felt in the least adventurous to be walking the aisles of a night market or the courtyard of a temple. It was just biding time until I could return to the USA.
>>2904368
Maybe that's the case in a buttoned-up country like the UK, but here in the USA there are many opportunities to live an unconventional lifestyle. You can choose to engage positively with other people regardless of how "normie" their life is, or you can choose to despise them for their normalcy. There are plenty of people in Asian countries who disapprove of foreign young men living as idle degenerates instead of marrying up and settling into a career, but evidently their opinion doesn't matter because they are brown or something like that.
>>
>>2904392
I turned 30 and realized that the one thing I wanted to do in life was drift freely across the surface of the earth. It's kept me younger-looking and more optimistic than the average 30 year old.
>>2904421
Wagecucking is 5x more exhausting than the travel life. Stop going so far on each trip if you're always feeling beat.

such as finding a one of a kind cafe that only serves one coffee, becase it simply is the best coffee in the fucking world. the people who visit it are special too. I met a 9dan karate black belt and a japanese hippie woman who used to hitchhike around japan in the 80's

i did illegal car races in iran, i smoke absurd amount of weed with cock (rooster) trainers in thailand, i got surrounded by a single elephant, jesus bought me two opals in australia... etc.

ikr, ride was wild. obviously not every adventure makes the breaking news. doesn't have to. if once in half a year something shakes your world at the roots, you will live the memory long enough to continue until the next one.
the elephant had me in an enclosed space, surrounded by chasm walls, cutting the only way out. and then it grazed on them leaves.
see, the description of the event is bland, no doubt. but the emotions that freeze you suddenly so exposed and vulnerable under full moon light, 20km away from the nearest human dwelling, facing a male elephant would grasp your attention. better than another shitty beer in a dirty shack playing bad music too loudly anyway

That's because "travelling" sucks, retard.

You're basically following the traveller cliche of doing a tour of the country, not really experiencing the local life, resetting at each location, and doing the same thing again.

The ennui you would get at home from being unemployed is the same you get abroad.

Real travel implies integrating yourself into the culture, learning the language, hell, working a 9 to 5 like a regular person, integrated in a real community at your local gym/market/social hubs, for at least a few months. It's not standing high and mighty above the poor people at your tourist hotel or low budget hostel for other entitled affluent kids.

Get yourself uncomfortable, more importantly, be real and authentic. Countries aren't zoos.

It’s simply something you have to contend with. It’s not an excuse not to travel or pursue “x” lifestyle

>Serious question, not being a cunt here. Do you really like it ? I feel like each time I am traveling, it's kind of the same. You meet new people and have the same conversation all over and over again.

You need the right attitude and personality for it. I have a friend that's kinda like OP, outgoing, very positive vibe and excited about everything. Loves to travel and meet people. He has tons of similar story about the crazy adventures he gets into.
He would wax on poetically for 15minutes about some magical moment he stumbled upon while in Nambia, or some other place as if it was the most amazing thing in the world.
He's dragged me onto some of those adventures, we saw some cheetahs, cheetah's are cool, but it's not changing my life.

But to him, it was the experience was amazing, and he's not hyping it up to make himself look cooler, guy barely uses social media, he's just 100% sincere and just loves seeing new shit and just goes 100% into it. He talks about it being the most incredible moment because to him they are and that's cool. Some people are just built like that, some people aren't.

Why does the idea or realization of buying a house send /trv/ posters into an absolute melty?
>>

>>2906423
My 29 yo brother bought a house in middle America a year ago. It's been a pain in the ass. He got a wife and then she turned into a horrid nag, so he dumped her. Now he dreams of being free once again of the burden of property ownership. Especially an old house with 50 things that need work. Too much fuggin work. Even now helping out my mom at her place it's shocking how much you need to do to keep up a property in America.

Anon, I could get being mad if 7 fig mansions they were going to buy. A sub 125,000 home? Fucking lol. If you don't make a lot of money it's actually easier to buy a home in many states due to first time home owner programs. It's actually harder once you make 75-110k to own a home than someone who makes 45-60k as many of the states will just give you the down payment, tax forgiveness, and forgive the down payment you assuming you live there between 8-15 years(varies by state).

You're on a board where people are living a luxurious life style, I'm guessing most people here who started traveling long term after covid are now starting to get the burn out or thinking about slowing it down. Buying a house, especially in the price ranges I've seen in other threads aren't something to get mad over by any means

>>2906993
>Especially an old house with 50 things that need work.
That sucks but at the same time, I don't know how much or if your brother didn't get it inspected or worse buy a 'fixer upper' not realizing it's a money sink. A home inspector costs like what 100-200 for a total overview? Seems like a no brainer when you're about to make a long term commitment.

As far as being tied down? Eh, sure you get tied down but it's not like you can't go somewhere for a month here and there. Just get a maid service (stupid cheap if you aren't doing detailed cleaning) and a yard service (again stupid cheap if it's basic mow+trim bushes) to make it look like everything is occupied.

In all reality, something like this would be nice to have. My life has been required travel for work since I was 24, now 36 and at this point everything is just a blur when I have free time between countries. What I would give just to make some buddies down at the local bar, watch football, shoot the shit on the weekends, grill in the backyard, and do fuck all else. SEA is fine, but man the old fucks I run into that "moved" here make me reconsider a lot of things.
>>

Unless you're actually brown thirdworlder or live in some buttfuck city in a state like rural north dakota, it's really not hard to buckle down for 2 years full on study and get certified in IT. Those jobs have a ton of travel opportunities, the sad fact is that most people don't want to do the 1-2 years hitting the books, lab work, etc and push into a job to grind out 2-3 years EXP to show competency and being trustworthy.

I remember going to an anon meetup in Japan last year and explaining my IT career and gave pointers to someone, in about the first 5 things I outlined I could tell the dude was cooked. Wanted a "yeah but what if I just do a bootcamp and stuff? Can't I do it then" without listening to any of the work needed. Hell, even JET is viable to people these days or whatever the Korean equivalent is I think the big problem is that you read these stories and think it's all one anon.

My job allows me to travel and shit, but I had to tough through a lot and I am still "below market" value for my trade. I think a lot of anons just have unreal expectations for living or working abroad; and what it takes to get there. Seriosuly, don't browse this board/threads if it's harmful to your mental well being if you'll never make it. That doomerism will fuck you up.

>2 years training for IT - job

Which IT jobs would you recommend for flexbility on schedule to work months on/ months off,and also which ones allow the most freedom to work remote.
What is your job ?
>>
>>2907007
Depends, I know some people who all they did is network cabling or work contracts 3-6 months with Dell/HP/Cisco/etc standing up offices and supporting a company relocating. Then take 3 months off, come back to a contract. Same with callcenter BS. Lot's of contract style jobs specifically in PHX where resume gaps in the contracting world means absolutely nothing. You're just going to need to stick with some agency like robert half/fieldnation/TekSystems, etc. Bust your ass for what they say and guess when your next one starts.

>also which ones allow the most freedom to work remote.
You're going to need like 3 years job exp minimum for these jobs nowadays usually in a System Admin setting as a lot went back to 1 day in the office or "must have residence in X state"

I am an infrastructure engineer which basically means if it exists in the environment I touch it at some point. Took me about 5 years EXP to get there, but I started at 18 doing callcenter and helpdesk stuff. Traded jobs up to that.

DESU if you are hardon for traveling and want to do on/off travel I'd suggest doing something like cdl.com or the like where you can drive amazon trucks for 6 months during busy seasons, fuck off, come back, rinse and repeat. I know some people in North Dakota that do that making 80k working half the year but bust their ass when in season, helps that you can get apartments up there for like 500/bucks too.
>>
>>2907010
>Network cabling or work contracts
Is there any specific job titles to look for this type of stuff? Should I just look into those agencies?
>3 years remote.
Okay i will scratch that idea
>Driving job
Yeah good idea

MY current situation is okay , I run construction jobs and winter usually slows and I travel, and so does middle/end of Summer
But I kinda wanna move to somewhere more small town/countryside so I am seeing what my options are for
Let me know if you have any other info of other driving jobs (amazon sounds gay)
or other 3-6 month on stack that $ cash
Ideally in a smaller chill town with chill friendly people .
Maybe OTR trucker is a good option for me
>>

Cable tech, Helpdesk Rep, IT Technician, etc. It's all world salad in IT.
>Okay i will scratch that idea
And this is why 99% of people stop for remote work.

>Let me know if you have any other info of other driving jobs (amazon sounds gay)
I mean CDL work doesn't have to be just amazon but I know a fair chunk of people that make good money working with them who cares about the employer when you make bank and move on. HVAC is also something that can be amazing seasonal work depending where you live.
>>
>>2907015
>HVAC
Yeah I should also look into other trades that are easy to find good paying shorter term contracts

By trade I am a framing carpenter so should probabably just find some cool booming small towns to bang work 2-6 months
After running my own small construction business it make it hard to go work for someone else and have less pay and freedoms. The bummer is I have started to dislike my busy metro area and long for a smaller town closer to nature will less losers to live amongst
thanks for reading my blog
>>
>>2907016
I mean trade work is easy to do seasonal, just depends where you do the work. Harking back to North Dakota I met a few anons who do seasonal work there as in winter it's simply a frozen hell hole, and live in some 600/mo apartment. When the winter blows in they fly out to Asia for 3-4 months, and come back as things start to thaw. Looking at apartments.com I saw places downtown for 450-600/mo even not sure the quality. I can see eating the 3-4 months of lost rent simply to have a hole to call home in.

I'd imagine they'd have a bunch of CDL and farm help out there as well as lucrative oil work jobs there but not sure where to look.

Enjoy anon best of luck out there

>>
>>2907215
>I can own a home
The tax on the home is substantially greater than the rent in Shitfuckstan, without even accounting for maintenance, upkeep, insurance, energy, etc. the cost of car ownership alone is greater than rent in many places, and "owning"* a home necessitates a car in the US

*you never own it. you pay rent every year until you sell it. They just change the name to property tax and bill you yearly instead of monthly.
>>
>>2907219
>YoU D0n'T oWn IT Cuzzz uhh TAXES!
The most room temp IQ take possible

Ah yes let me go live in the shitholes without taxes that have anything relevant to a normal cost of living in Europe... which would be Estonia or Croatia... Which actually have houses you can buy for the same $ = € , however it would be a run down shack or something needing complete modernization doubling the price. Not to mention the absolute state of the economies there and ever dwindling pension and social funds.

You forget taxes are stupid low in the USA, some 150k-200k houses are ~1000-2000 a year in property taxes, and when you're older than 65 you can do exemptions/credits/etc. So unless you just never invested your money from 30-65 at all, you're just fucked. I mean I get it, half this board is living with parents on gibs to go to SEA once or twice but come on. By all means where is another place to buy a home with the similar infrastructure and economy to support a decent life.

>The tax on the home is substantially greater than the rent in Shitfuckstan
Property tax on homes are based off assessed value not list price, a 150k home will often be assessed far lower. This gets wonky in places like LA/NYC/HI but for the most part it's almost always substantially lower. There are also a plethora of things you can do to get tax credits and once you pay it off completely you can do a plethora of things to lower it even more.

>. the cost of car ownership alone is greater than rent in many places, and "owning"* a home necessitates a car in the US
Last car I had was a BMW 325i w/ 95k mi on it bought it full cash, insurance was like 520/year(lump sum price), oil change was like 50-60 bucks every 4-5 months? Inspection was maybe 75 bucks a year. I think my property tax on it was something like maybe 100-125? Just because you can find actual retards buying M4's or SUV's, Truck, or Hellcats for 70K new with 72 month 18% interest doesn't mean everyone does it.

outside gas, that's what 70 bucks a month in cost of ownership? zamn.

> They just change the name to property tax and bill you yearly instead of monthly.
You know you can just do 1 yearly payment right? That's more the norm than anything.

None of what you said makes sense to anyone who lived on their own in america and actually had to pay taxes. This is the kinda shit you hear euro's spout because they read a reddit post from some retard who bought new, has 50 tickets + DWI, looked at buying a house just outside NYC/Shitcago, and gave up because there isn't anywhere else worth living.

>My mom pays 2600 a year in property tax, up from 1700 just last year because they say so. Murica, freedom, fuck yeah amirite?

Yes because the tax is based off the assessed value, so your mothers home went up in value. Depending on her age, if over 65, you could easily apply for things to freeze that to what you are currently paying. That's also only about 200/mo and some change, social security will easily cover that if she was dumb and didn't have a 401k set up.

Alternatively, sell the home and move somewhere cheap with fat stacks of cash.
>>
>You forgot to factor in the purchase price you absolute retard
Yes it's something that builds equity and provides living, it's something you can almost always sell for a profit that keeps up with inflation(arguably outpacing it).
>2600/yr in taxes
So what cheaper than basically any country with a reliable government and infrastructure to live in.

>How do you avoid bring deported?
Not OP but you simply just cycle from country to country when your visa-free or visa program is about to expire.

If OP is US he could do 90 days in most all SEA countries, rotating through them is easy. Some countries like Taiwan offer visa's for people to stay up to 3 years in one go if they are "looking for work". Most all "I will never go back to the USA" threads brush over the costs and things needed to live this lifestyle by hopping around.

>Its not complicated or expensive if you are willing to move every 90 days
No but it does cause a headache at times, I know I've done it for years. My point being in the post is that it's also an associated cost people forget about. The meme of "you own nothing and will be happy" is real in this life style. You're packing light+some basic clothes, and stuck in whatever Airbnb/apartment you can find from FB or locals. Friends are harder to come by and it does make you a bit more numb to things. If I were back home in the USA my quality of life would be substantially better outside maybe living in some select places (Singapore, Taiwan, Japan, Norway, etc).

You also basically never know what the next place will be in terms of cost and life quality. Usually its going to be same-ish but there are times you get a shit hand delt. I'm all for defending the lifestyle for those who literally got nothing else going on but it's not the
