Oh look, it's anon's quarterly overwhelming wish to ignore all responsibilities and go for 7/10 days in Hong Kong. But then anon remembers he's a poorfag, so he'll just go to his chinese area, have some food, jerk off to HongKongDoll when he gets home, and the thirst gets quenched for a couple of weeks again. Should I do though? Is it worth it? I've never been out of Europe
>>2904253trust me, go to taiwan instead. people in hk are rude as hell
>>2904253Hong Kong sucks. Either go to China proper or go to Japan
7-10 days in HK is long enough to see pretty much everything the country has, barring some yearly festivals. Like yeah you can climb some mountains there, visit the beach, see all the museums, and night markets all in 7-10 days. Just going to set you back unless you do those rat den hotels that people mistakenly book.Do Taiwan if you want something reasonably priced and not feel like you're on a 24/7 tour line. There is NOTHING worse than being in HK and trying to see some slightly off the beaten path cool trail followed by NIAO CHINK CHONG DAI DONG POW! for a group of 10 people popping out of no where and have 0 fucking self awareness or respect for the place around them. Followed by kids 8-15 all acting like do not touch or do not poop here signs are invitations to do that thing,Taiwan for about ~250-300 you can get a good hotel or airbnb for 10 nights, actually move about, probably get free breakfast(if you do hostels NK hostel is dope for breakfast and cube). People at least have the word thank you in their vocabulary. If you give it a couple months temps will cool off a bit for some perfect hiking, your dollar goes farther too. Subway/bus system is decent, no octopus bullshit required at random places.I guess one thing HK does have is due to it being so small and british ties, you can get around a few more places with simply english rather than NO NO SORRY NO ENGRISH PREASE convo. Also I found HK places willing to make my meals spicy where as Taiwan they just made it "white people spice" which just felt like normal NYC sytle chinese food
>>2904253>>2904290I love Hong Kong too but 7 days is already pushing it, 4 days for the city is enough. Then you have the few hiking spots outside (fishing towns, the big buddha). 3 days for that maybe.Never been to Taiwan but my guess is that Taipei alone is just 3 days and then you need a car to see everything else.Been to Japan multiple times and HK, i love both, different vibes and HK has the advantage of not being invaded by vanilla weaboos tourists. Also, some normies say that the Chinese are rude, but they are far from Paris rude or NYC rude. They are vanilla for any European who knows Paris, London, Rome.Chinese scammers are cute compared to arabs, africans and gyspy scammers we have in European cities. They don't have the threathening part.
Also HK by night feels as safe, if not safer, than japanese cities. It's not really a party city tho, outside of LKF.
>>2904309>Never been to Taiwan but my guess is that Taipei alone is just 3 days and then you need a car to see everything else.Taipei is a 4ish-5ish day assuming one day for mountains.>Also, some normies say that the Chinese are rude, but they are far from Paris rude or NYC rudeLast time I was in NYC didn't have people forcefully push by me, then tell me shit, not know that holding a door open at least gets a thank you in the local language, white boomers there actively trying to gatekeep their pinoy wife from anyone half their age, people didn't act like it was offensive I wanted a seat for 1 at a place, random ass pajeets flooding in to HEY BUDDY U WANT SOMETING they fucking flooded Tsim Sha Tsui and it's shit to walk through at night.>They are vanilla for any European who knows Paris, London, Rome.Yes given who's in Paris I would say HK is indeed, the people are more "vanilla".>>2904313HK is NOT safer than Japan, Chinese or the random arabs--I mean "nepal" individuals run scams all the fucking time, if you pass out your can lose your phone easily. What's that saying they have, it's your fault for being stupid? or whatever. Sure if we are saying Japan = Shinjuku/harajuku, yeah alright but HK has far more people scamming you or simply pickpocketing. Let's not talk about the kidnappings, or is that against your social credit score. If OP is European and going for the first time, Taiwan will be far more worth it in diverse land scapes and things to do than HK's one trick pony ride and tax loophole Xi has turned it into.
The short of it OP is:HK IF:-want to say you knocked out all the country has-have a large budget, hotels will tear into you.-are sure you're going to get in before the flood of mainlanders get to places-are not going to during monsoon season(it's over but I dunno when you plan to go)-are not going during chinese new year-okay with crowds at most anywhere touristy (baring some mountain trails which usually are pretty free just watch where you hike to not be on military property)TW IF:-Budget is smaller, 10 days in and around taipei will be same price or probably cheaper than 5-7 days in HK-Going during Chinese New Year, it gets packed but manageable compared to HK-looking for diverse biomes-into more of a mix of various Chinese traditions-want to walk around more see a lot of the old/new stuff Taipei preserved or repurposed a lot of it's old shit-need more space in the bedroom/lodging most hostels in TW are as big as the 'budget' hotels you'll getThere is a ton of overlap, but the people of Taiwan and mainlanders who visit make it infinitely more desirable for me to visit.
>>2904315>Let's not talk about the kidnappings, or is that against your social credit score.KEK, desu HK was probably more based under british rule, but personally i'm 20 years too young to have experienced it, so i take the place as it exists right now. And as it is, you can have fun there. If i had to chose between living in Paris/London/Berlin and HK, i'd chose HK any day of the week for the safety alone. Also for Taiwan, you do need to rent a car or a bike to go anywhere outside of Taipei i suppose?
>>2904325>you do need to rent a car or a bike to go anywhere outside of Taipei i suppose?HSR, bus system, or trains.
>>2904322Both hostels I stayed in Taiwan were extremely cramped and poorly furnished.>>2904325I've had to wait close to two hours for the city bus from the Hualien train station to the commercial center. It was supposed to come every half hour. Not sure how other cities are.
>>2904322>CNY>PackedNigga what? Everyone literally stays at home for a week eating, drinking, and playing mahjong 24/7 for CNY. It's the ONLY time the city isn't packed
>>2904339>Both hostels I stayed in Taiwan were extremely cramped and poorly furnished.Taiwan Hostel >>>> Budget cube hotel or budget hotel/hostel in HK. Had to do in a few times because of some hotel bookings I had never again, the beds you get in Taiwan are not too bad in value for the money.>>2904343confirmed never been around HK for CNY
>>2904349>confirmed never been around HK for CNYNever claimed to have been in HK for CNY. I have spent a number of them in Taipei, however, and your claim that it gets "packed but manageable" is laughable. The streets are empty and a majority of shops are closed for the first few days.
>>2904351>I have spent a number of them in Taipei, however, and your claim that it gets "packed but manageable" is laughableYes for the street festivals and night markets it gets more packed than usual, Ximen is usually pretty fucked, the trains do to for shows at the river, same with the HSR, and shops are closed often leading to other places being more crowded. If you're a tourist trying to do touristy things you'll noice shit can be crunched, it's worse in HK but Taipei also gets bad.>inb4 well I live well outside %major_city% downtown, stack my fridge with stuff, and play vidya it's fine for me!
>>2904315>kidnappingswtf are you talking about
>>2904365Use to be a lot of people "disappearing" in HK, it's gone down especially after the Peoples Democracy guy and his followers basically got snuffed out. It was often pointing towards illegal organ harvesting, governments just disappearing you for being an activist, and so on. I remember a lot of old signs and stories about people being shoved into vans and driven away. Especially on some of the far sides of Hong Kong Island.
>>2904290>the countryEXCUSE ME!!??
>>2904369Anon you know what the post means, "the specially administrative zone of HK" if you want to be cute but everyone here knows HK's "borders" are still logistically and tourist speaking still there
>>2904373Say Hong Kong's a country to my face, nigger
Thanks for the opinions and advice, guys. I never really considered Taiwan, but I'll have a look. I usually considered Hong Kong because I grew up with movies set in Hong Kong and I like Sleeping Dogs. I don't really mind chaos and great big dirt cities and rude people, I live in Paris so I'm used to thisFor all the anons saying Japan, I'm in the process of saving up for a long multi week trip sometime in the future, so it's out of the question.
The best spots for hotels is on the island, Causeway Bay, Central, SheungWan.
