I'm a 33 year old guy from Finland. I'm thinking of moving to Latin America because of two reasons: the weather is miserable here for 5/12 of the year and lack of dating possibilities unless you are a gigachad.I have 400k saved up. What's a safe country where I could find a wife and eventually buy an apartment and not be afraid of people killing me in my sleep because Im rich(comparatively) and they are not?
would you date a guy?I want a finnish bf!hope ur not too autistic...
>>2904498No, I'm not gay. I'm not autistic at all
>>2904496I don't know about your tax and visa/passport laws and you should all l search for that yourself rather than hoping a heavily American imageboard can give you insight. we barely know our own laws, much less yours. I don't even know if your country is in the EU
>>2904508Finland is in the EU. I'm mainly asking whats the safest/best country in latin america
You should really travel to several countries there first to see what parts of LATAM life you can tolerate and what you can't before settling somewhere. Also do you have remote income or are you trying to basically retire on the 400k or work locally?
>>2904514>Also do you have remote income or are you trying to basically retire on the 400kIm planning to buy the best house that I can afford with 400k and have some left over. I will try to find local work.>You should really travel to several countries there first to see what parts of LATAM life you can tolerate and what you can't before settling somewhere. What countries should I visit?
>>2904496>lack of dating possibilities unless you are a gigachadWhat a lengthy way of saying you're an incel
>>2904515>I will try to find local workThis is a terrible idea. What do you do now? Find any way you can to do that remotely for first world income.>What countries should I visit?I generally like Argentina the best all around, but 1. it's not warm all year, more like Mediterranean climate with mild winters2. the quality women will only be a little easier than in Europe3. housing is still cheap because of lack of financing/speculation, but everything else is Europe prices, maybe only slightly cheaper than FinlandIf you need somewhere warm all year or are focused on finding a wife and get no bitches at home you'll need to look at places that are generally kinda shittier and less safe. Paraguay is safe and cheap and the women are easy, but it's a sweltering oven with not much going on. If you insist on working locally Sao Paulo has high wages, hot women, average safety for LATAM, but it's endless ugly concrete sprawl. What places were you already thinking about?
>>2904513if that's the main question then I'd say Costa Rica, then Panama
>>2904527>housing is still cheap because of lack of financing/speculationAs someone who just came back from Buenos Aires, you cannot be serious. Don’t listen to this guy, OP.>São Paulo>safetyOP DONT LISTEN TO HIM
>>2904496If you want an honest opinion, I would say southern Brazil. It's generally not very dangerous outside the big cities (São Paulo is extremely dangerous, btw), the women are beautiful and there are a lot of European influenced cities there (idk about Finnish but definitely German/Dutch). Housing is still expensive but generally cheaper than Buenos Aires or São Paulo. There are more women than men in Brazil overall and you could probably find a job teaching English or Finnish at an international school if you are fluent. They also like being seen as the European part of Brazil, so they'd probably eat up your Finnish genes.Pros and cons of other places:>Rest of BrazilPricey or unsafe. I'd recommend São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro for a trip, though.>UruguaySafest country in South America. Personally my favorite. It's probably the most European feeling country in South America while still having a distinctly Latino culture. But the cost of living is extremely high and there are a lot of older people here, so it might not be the best choice for you.>ArgentinaAgain, don't listen to that anon, housing is also extremely pricey. The cost of living is pricey. People aren't very friendly either and I genuinely think that's an Argentine thing. If you go to more rural areas, there are mostly older people and you're probably going to need to find a job in tourism.>ChileHigh prices and I'm going to be honest here: people there are kinda ugly lol. You didn't say what kind of women you want, but if you're thinking of somewhere like Chile/Peru/Ecuador, expect a lot of the same indigenous features, sometimes bordering on SEA looking.
>>2904496Fuck off we're full.
>hurrdurr im moving to the most dangerous place in the world whats a safe place thereJust move to albania or florida dumdum
>>2904507>I'm not autistic at allCome on man who are you trying to fool you already said you were finnish. To answer you question Costa Rica is a good option as its safe, has good infrastructure (by central/south american standards) and the weather is temperate if you live in the interior near San Jose. Biggest draw for me though is just the amazing natural landscape, beautiful beaches, mountains and jungles all relatively well cared for and not filled with garbage like many other countries in this area.A few cons though its more expensive than many other places in the region, the local food and alcohol is nothing write home about and the women are not really exceptional either looks wise or in attitude in fact the young women tend to be quite progressive/liberal, although since you're Nordic that might not be an issue for you.On the other side of the coin you might consider Columbia. Lower cost of living than CR, much better food culture and the women are top tier if a bit materialistic and status conscious. The price you pay is its not quite as safe or well run of a country. I've never had any major issues as a tourist staying no longer than a month at a time but if you plan to live here permanently I could see there being more risk.
>>2904496I was like you more then a decade ago but decided to go for Spain, it might fit your criteria because its really hot, and its awesome. If you reach some 1m budget you can try going for a house in Melbourne, so you ll get to spend from dec to march in sunny weather, then come back to europe for the rest of the year if you wish so.
>>2904527I want a mix of warm climate and a good wife. I'm 6'2 guy so Im not going gutter fishing. I also want nature close by. I dont have To live right next To nature but I dont wanna see endless conrete
>>2904705400k is all I got. Im not going to wait until Im 40. Its next year or never
>>2904696>but if you plan to live here permanently I could see there being more risk. What does this mean In practice? Why is 1 month okay but staying there less so?
>>2904496>guy from Finland. I'm thinking of moving to Latin Americamaybe try Spain firstwhy the fuck would you even want to go to Latin Americait's only good for vacationor go to literally any southern European country>I have 400k saved up.not enough for FIREnot enough to buy a proper house / fancy apartmentalso you're overestimating how wealthy you'd becompared to rural folks and the average worker in like Buenos Aires maybebut you likely will be living in an expat / local professionals bubble where everyone will be making good moneyin southern Europe you may be able to actually integrate (when you learn the language)
>>2904725Im not thinking of FIRE. Just saying that I could instantly buy a house worth 400k. The money I need for living isnt much
>>2904725>not enough to buy a proper house / fancy apartmentjust want to add here that building quality is VERY different in most of the world compared to the Nordics / Germany / BeNeLuxthe standard house quality in Finland would be considered luxury (if you can even get it at all) in Latampartly because the climate doesn't require building like this, partly because of costso if you want basic things like underfloor heating or no drafts inside the house you are confined to luxury / ultra-high end builds in (the colder parts of) South Americayou will either have to lower your standard of livingor don't expect to spend less on housing than in Finlandagain I highly suggest you try out southern Europe firstwith 400k€ NW you can easily live off a local salary and withdraw an additional ~1k€/month from your stash while it continues to (slowly) grow
>>2904731Theres nothing luxurious about the average finnish apartment. They have to be heated because it gets - 20, celsius cold outside
>>2904598>average safety for LATAMwhat do you think that means, retard?
>>2904727>Im not thinking of FIREyou don't need to do the RE part, but the financial independence part would largely shield you from the (potentially shitty) local economybut you're not there yet, so local job market / economy IS an important consideration for you>Just saying that I could instantly buy a house worth 400k. you a) shouldn't, rent for a while firstb) you still have pay maintenance, taxes etc.>The money I need for living isnt muchyou say this now... living in Finland... where your taxes are (mostly) used for lots of infrastructure and pleasantries of daily lifein less developed countries a similar life might cost significantly morehealth care (good doctors only privately paid) or transport are the most important onelike in Germany I pay ~60€/month to take the train everywhere, and it's finein other countries I would have to buy and maintain a car for >300€/month (likely even much more)>no clean tap water -> filter or bottled water>air pollution -> constantly running room air filter>blackouts -> backup batteryor things that cost you mental load, like constantly having to look out for your safety, which is a non issue almost everywhere in Europe
>>2904724Well the biggest thing is you would have a house with a bunch of stuff in it that people might want to steal. You also just have much more general exposure since you are spending a lot more time there and going to local markets and shops. When you're a tourist there isn't really enough time for you to be specifically targeted by scammers or thieves.
>>2904734>Theres nothing luxurious about the average finnish apartmentexactly my pointwhat you consider the """baseline"""is often luxury in lesser developed countriesunderfloor heating is the easiest exampleor no mold everywhere because apartments are properly insulated and plannedyou should really travel for a few weeks first anonlook up what houses / apartments you can affordand search for an airbnb that looks similar in terms of build quality (maybe stay in multiple)also generally a good idea to explore the place where you intend to live for the rest of your life before
>>2904740Steal my sofa or tv? Im not saying the chances are impossible but the fear that People hold are always greatly exaggeratedNothing will make me want To endure finnish winters as I get older. Its 100%. Certainty that I hate my life for 4 months of the year
>>2904742Ive never been In an apartment with underfloor heating. Scratch that, my bathroom has it but I turn it Off To save 15 euros a month. It does nothing for me. I do have a sauna though, cant take every little thing with you. I realize that
>>2904713>a good wife. I'm 6'2 guy so Im not going gutter fishingyou didn't address your history with local women, so I'm going to assume incel from now on>>2904696>Costa RicaSame prices as Finland for >infrastructureAfrica tier>>2904724>Why is 1 month okay but staying there less so?Because as you meet people socially the Colombian rats will hear about fresh foreign meat and figure out ways to set you up to be robbed
>>2904745Yeah Im an incel atm. That much is given.
>>2904744>cant take every little thing with youdon't know what to tell you more other than actually go travel where you want to live and experience itmy eye opening experience was when I traveled Argentina, which already is one of the higher developed countries in LatAmand I stayed in like a ~200€/night hotelother than shower and decoration the room was generally shittier than my 350€ per MONTH student room in a shared flat back home at the timewasn't even a remote place or anythingit's just that the general standard is quite a bit lower and it's hard to buy your way out of ityou might be content with the lower quality of livingor you might notonly way to find out is to live like that, even just for 2 weeks
>>2904747I think you're overestimating how much JBW/tall will help you in LATAM with nordic autism and no language skills
>>2904743Look ultimately before you make any life altering decision you should just go there in person spend a few weeks, ideally talk to some expats who have been there for at least a year and see if its really for you. This applies regardless of the country you are considering.
>>2904749fr. he's going to Colombia thinking women are going to give him attention because he's white and he's probably going to end up getting robbed. then he'll go to Uruguay, Argentina, or southern Brazil thinking he's going to stand out, only to realize that most people here have European ancestry too. if he actually wants to stand out and stop being an incel, he'd have to go to a poorer country, and there's no such thing as a country that's both poor and completely safe.
>>2904750Yeah Im not saying im gonna buy an apartment the second I step into LATAM soil. Im just stating my long term plan>>2904749Whats your point though? That I should continue my miserable existence In Finland, when I have the opportunity To move. I say no thanks To that. Its different if you have absolutely nothing To your name, then things get difficult. Choosing To continue a miserable life is a really Motherfucking stupid choice
>>2904496Ok here's a long post because no one is being helpful here.OP you strike as someone who has a good head on their shoulders, which is why my stomach turns at the thought of these clueless chucklefucks poisoning your mind with uninformed drivel so let me enlighten the conversation a bit.1. First things first, before you do anything you need to have the right attitude. Immigrating to Latin America is a privilege, not a right, especially in the context of immigration policies taking a hard turn for the draconian in recent years. Latin American countries are extending you the courtesy of the option to immigrate, something which Western governments aren't reciprocating. Just keep that in mind.2. Second, you need to know a couple of things. You were born with the privilege of being a citizen of a country that practices the Nordic model, the least shitty and most tolerable form of capitalism. In Latin America Neoliberalism is the dominant economic system and it's the biggest reason why the region is so poor. The only exceptions to this are Cuba, Nicaragua and Venezuela (at least before the mutt government kidnapped Maduro like a bunch of third-rate terrorists). They would be lightyears ahead of their neighbors if the gringo government didn't impose sanctions on them.Danger in Latin America is overstated, risk varies widely by country and region.Yes, places like Ciudad Juarez, Tijuana, Medellin and Sao Paolo are extremely dangerous but there's plenty of other towns and cities that are safe. El Salvador, for example went from being the most dangerous country in Central America to the arguably the safest because Bukele locked up all the maras (the only thing that dictator did).1/?
>>2904766>They would be lightyears ahead of their neighbors if the gringo government didn't impose sanctions on themdisregard this coping communist
>>2904770also, the way he said Latin America isn't Western rubbed me the wrong way lol. i always thought we were Western. Americans are so weird with the way they categorize people. might be the same type of thinking that considers Gisele Bündchen German even though she and her family were born in Brazil.
3. Right now is not the best time to come since the political climate is increasingly turning towards the right. The governments of Colombia, Chile, Argentina and a couple of other countries are completely ZOGed just like the West. The biggest exception is Brazil, which has a non-bought politician like Lula at the helm and is probably your best bet.Brazil is part of BRICS+ and it cultivates close ties to China which means it has a future IF Brazilians keep voting for the right politicans.IF the current political arrangement holds we will see an increasing divergence as Brazil will pull ahead of its neighbors who will stay as poor or become even poorer if they keep allying with the US.As for dating, the truth is it's only comparatively easier than in the West. You won't find the general hostile attitude white women have for men here but you will get brutally mogged by the locals. When latinas say they like white boys they mean castizos who know the language, not Anglo dorkers who don't speak a lick of Spanish/Portuguese.However dating and getting a wife is totally doable IF you do the following>you immigrate and become a citizen>you learn the language>you assimilate into the culture>you get a local job and earn like a localThe idea that you're going to get robbed is overblown. It's only true if you decide to act like a nouveau riche faggot and engage in conspicuous consumption. Latinx aren't cucked like Westerners, inequality bullshit isn't tolerated there.4. Finally, here's what I think is your best bet.Move to Brazil, preferably to a city in the south like Blumenau. You will be surrounded by descendants of German immigrants which won't be as intimidating. Study Portuguese for the first couple of years while working a local job there and then move to another city/town of your liking.
>>2904775ContinuedYou won't want to stay in the south for too long thought, the people there are the exact sort of castizo/criollo upper-class scum that contribute to making their countries hellholes although like I said if Brazilians keep voting for politicans like Lula their influence will be checked and the country will pull ahead. That's about all OP, if you're smart and keep your wits about you you can definitely build a great life for you there.>>2904772I didn't say Latin America isn't Western, it is.I simply used the word in the narrow sense to mean USA/EU/AUS&NZ, the kind of OECD countries that generally vote the same in UN resolutions.
>>2904496If I had to move to S.A. I would go to the most Euro places I could find. But that's just me:- Uruguay- Argentina- Brazil (States of Rio Grande do Sul or Santa Catarina)If you wanted to go more tropical beach then:- Mexico (Cancun)- Costa RicaHomestead(?):- Ecuador
>>2904778Lmao, you commie parasites are all the same, needing to leech of the white man's hard work. SA is poor because its full of low iq coloreds and the southern cone is poor because its been run by commies for most of 100 years and full of colored adjacent north africans from spain snd Italy
>>2904705with OPs budget more than a decade ago, I bought a really nice house for less than 400K and I am living the dream you wish for.I am coming from the east not from the north but the situation was similar.Nowadays with the recent waves of immigration the cost of the houses have skyrocketed sadly.I still think you can buy a house within that budget like mine on the east coast of Spain in an "urbanización", I have mountains view in my backyard and a 15m drive to the Mediterana sea and the regional city
>>2905340also, the nearby city is awesomeI have been to few countries, only brazil from LATAM, but I am telling you, Spain is the most beautiful country on earth
OP you should travel abit to Portugal, Spain, Italy, south of France (voted the best climate possible), Greece, Croatia, Crete before making up your mind. You should also travel a bit to the LATAM countries you think of moving to.Only then you should decide.BTW, south european brunettes are hot
>>2904598>As someone who just came back from Buenos Aires, you cannot be serious. Don’t listen to this guy, OP.Agreed. I was there a year ago. Housing in BA is off the fucking charts. US$300,000 for a mediocre condominium. Food prices are 20% higher than in the U.S. for just basic groceries and basic fast-food places.El Salvador is safe and warm, but I have no clue about housing costs or food costs there. I was supposed to go last year but a friend hijacked my vacation and forced me to go to Argentina with him.
>>2904696I love boob windows.>>2904748>it's just that the general standard is quite a bit lower and it's hard to buy your way out of itVery much agreed. None of the hotels I stayed in had vent fans in the bathroom, for example. None of them had handshowers, they were all fixed-showerhead-only. Lots of other little low-quality details like that. It was like staying in a shitty Bangkok hotel except the prices were at least double Bangkok's, really probably triple. One hotel I stayed at was supposedly higher-end, which in practice meant that it was just like the others except they had "free breakfast". The "free breakfast" was 100% carbohydrates -- toast, bread, cereal, bagels. There was some extremely thinly sliced ham but an entire plate of it wouldn't be sufficient protein and they only put out a couple of plates of it each morning, so it'd be pretty rude of you to take the whole thing. Oh, they did have butter and some sort of awful cheese product to smear on the bread.
>>2904772>might be the same type of thinking that considers Gisele Bündchen German even though she and her family were born in Brazil. She's pureblooded Aryan stock, descended from Wehrmacht refugees. How dare you pretend she's some sort of mystery meat huehue.
>>2905454Still Brazilian
>>2904507You don't sound like a Finn at all mate
>>2905453Worst apartments I ever stayed in were in Argentina. One had roaches and flooded in the middle of the night from a rainstorm, another one had a flood coming from the bathroom into the hall it had been going on so long the floor was squishy and mushrooms were growing from the floorboards, third one I broke a chair and the bed by sitting on it. All were highly rated on booking so this shit must be normal there
>>2905453And breakfasts were horrid, bread and sweets, and like you say a tiny plate of ham and cheese fuck it I took the whole thing freaks just eat croissants for breakfast
>>2905511I thought I was the only one annoyed by the fact that their breakfast is always medialunas and dulce de leche lol It's always something sweet; there's never a normal savory breakfast. I was eating leftover fugazzeta pizza for breakfast one day and I'm not even fat, i just wanted a normal non sweet breakfast.
>>2905340>I still think you can buy a house within that budget like mine on the east coast of Spain in an "urbanización",if you skip the big metro areas you can easily get a house for ~200-300k and renovate it with the leftovers2022 I bought a vacation house near Biarritz 7 Bayonnenot Spain, but we also looked on the Spanish side near San Sebastian and up until Bilbaoobviously the cities were expensive, especially Bilbao had houses for 600-700k and up onlybut as soon as you get to less desirable location aka outside of commuting distance, it gets a LOT cheapergotta be willing to renovate thoughwe spend another ~2month replacing floors, some electrical, installed a heat pump+solar+batteries, insulating, painting etc.>>2905453>Lots of other little low-quality details like thatyes, that's exactly my pointunless you get to ultra luxury stuff, the standard will be generally lower than bare minimum in northern Europesome major things will be better, like having larger rooms, but that doesn't give you comfort
>>2904515If you want to escape the wage cage you should just rent and abuse the exchange rates, one of my buddies stayed I think a little outside florianopolis for like 300 usd a month. 400k is enough to retire in some places in LATAM but also east Europe and also not have to deal with estate taxes or upkeep , unless you were thinking of eventually taking out a home equity loan for a business endeavor in the future or something. But why would you when you could just passively invest most of the money in an index fund or something and continue to abuse the exchange rate, which of course now your probably limited to places with lower capital gains or which have foreign sourced income tax breaks ,but those are usually poorer countries anyway so your probably already searching in those areas anyway. maybe have a small amount of gold as a hedge as well for when our ai burger economy hyper inflates in a decade and they reevaluate gold at a way higher price. 400k is genuinely enough to not work again if you play it right.
>>2904515>Im planning to buy the best house that I can afford with 400k and have some left over. I will try to find local work.Good luck on that. BTW, don't listen to this guy >>2904527 Argentina's economy is fucked beyond belief.
>>2904515>I will try to find local workYou can tell you have no experience living abroad. You need to invest your $400k because in time you can retire on that. You absolutely do not >buy the best house that I can afford with 400kYou are going to find it incredibly difficult to make that kind of money ever again living in Lat Am, so you do not blow it on a house. That is your retirement
>>2904798>- Mexico (Cancun)lol, lmao even. Cancun is one of most expensive cities in Mexico, he's money won't last a lot there since scamming foreigners is a common practice and prices are just too high, besides, Cartel violence has increased in recent years, so it is quite dangerous at the moment.
>>2905510>All were highly rated on booking so this shit must be normal thereThat's the problem, you booked through Booking which is nothing but shady accommodations with misleading photos and amenities, never bother to book something from them again.t. worked for them as a customer service agent for two years.
>>2905856You are a moron the problem was exclusive to Argentina
Yeah thanks guys for the decent thread. I'll think about Spain, lots of finnish people there too.
>>2904515Buying a house sounds like a terrible financial decision, and you will never make that money again in a 2nd world country>invest 400k in SP500>historical returns of 7% after inflation = 35k yearly income to withdraw>some years the stocks will crash bigly, or other years they will boom, so you need discipline to not lose all your savings in a crash year >you can probably rent a beautiful house for 1000$/month, and have enough to live on>if you rent you can move countries every few years and find a new restaurant to work atTo find out what countries to move to you should be doing a 2-3 week vacation every year to different countries to learn what you likeYou can get burned by foreign woman just like local woman. They might get into 2 year relationship then find a way to get half your money and kick you out. But at least you had fun and learned something right?
