I'm going to be in Japan August 29th to September 6th. 10 day forecasts are blackpilling me, looks like it's going to be cloudy/rainy but this was of course expected. At least I'm not worried about the heat, I've lived in central america before so Japan humidity is nothing.
>>
Japan then:
>smoking everywhere
>barely any """foreigners""" or other undesirables
>Just Being White made you celebrity-status, could go weeks without seeing another westerner
>anime still relatively unknown in the global sphere
>elevator girls, the guy whose job is just to walk around greeting people
>purikura, gyaru, para-para. big socks, shorter skirts
>ageHa
>engrish everywhere
>tons of subculture magazines
>cool car/bike scene
>listening to music on your MD Walkman
>train station chalkboards
>salarymen on the train folding the newspaper 6 times over just to read a small section
>tons of cool gadgets, garakei phones had convenient maps without cancerous apps
>hanako sans lined up waiting for you at the hub
>women threw themselves at you looking to try a foreign guy. fuck a new girl in some bootleg karaoke booth every night until the first train
>english teaching was decently high paying, lots of job opportunities outside of it as well. could make top dollar teaching private lessons

Japan now:
>flooded with undesirables
>tiktok zoomers lined up to buy the latest nujabes x demon slayer x city pop merch
>clubbing/bar hopping is dead
>jbw is a relic of a bygone era, the hub is completely empty
>plastic social media culture, fashion feels inauthentic and forced
>tech scene dead and outdated, now just slaves to globohomo corpos
>yen is terrible, only way to survive is being a vulture making USD as the country crumbles around you
>k-pop/gacha takeover
>no more genki girls, they're all just glued to their iphones
>nobody even cares about free english practice anymore, you can feel the soul sucked from their body

I'd genuinely like to hear from people who prefer nu-japan and why. Granted this is mostly about Tokyo, but even the best times in Osaka today are nothing compared to Tokyo then. And small towns are even more depressing with so much stuff being boarded up.

I once talked to an elderly woman who used to work as an elevator operator at a department store. According to her, being an elevator operator was not a specialized standalone job; rather, it was just one part of a multi-tasking role. A small team of workers would rotate through different duties, including operating the elevator, working at the reception desk, and making in-store announcements. She also mentioned that their role at the elevator and reception desk was not just to guide customers, but also to keep a sharp eye out for lost children and suspicious individuals. Furthermore, when making in-store announcements, they used coded language that customers wouldn't understand to communicate business messages and emergencies to other employees.

If I have a drug conviction but don’t declare it on the immigration entry card what are the chances I get pulled up on it and refused entry? Fortunately I don’t require a visa with my country’s passport
>>
>>2905068
Well I'm still taking it, it's a full 2-year student visa course where I'm living there. Yes it's worth it, living there is simply the best way to practice the language.
Before doing that I took a 3-week language course as part of one of those "explore real japan!!" package deals. It was full of gateway weebs but honestly I don't regret it at all. I never practiced speaking before and it was most progress I made in the shortest period of time.

I chose it because it was my first trip to Japan (>>2898919) and I didn't really know what to do. It was a full group-trip thing though with an entire itinerary, not just some classes you go to in the morning. Many of the people who went tacked it on to the middle/end of a much longer trip so that they still had time to explore other parts of Japan.

Are American sized clothing available in Japan? I know shoes and underwear aren't, what about something like a XL hooded sweatshirt or light jacket for a 6 foot 2 210 pound man

Yeah, turns out all that prosperity in the 80s was built on the unstable foundation of a real estate bubble that popped when Japan was hit by the Plaza Accords.
Anon, the decline had already set in by the 90s, it's just that it wasn't as pronounced back at the turn of the millennium. But as Japan's Lost Decade dragged on and became Decades with an S it became clear that this wasn't a temporary recession but a permanent state of affairs.
The worst is the kind of deluded weeb who fetishizes signs of stagnation like offices still using fax machines and until a few years ago floppy disks, all symptoms of a dysfunctional economic system and inflexible society.
The miracle isn't that Japan recovered from the rubble of war, it's that it did so with such a shitty system as capitalism. If Japan fully transitioned to Socialism today it would be an unironic utopia.
There's also the matter of xenophobia, which holds Japan back. Weebs don't want to admit this but gaijin are the key to Japan's salvation, not only would they solve the demographic crisis that is well under way they'd also be able to change the country's godawful work culture.
Too bad Jap chuds voted for that harpy Takaichi, it's gonna take until next election to undo the damage.

Probably agree with >>2905286 thoughts here. Its a transactional relationship and you'll probably have the thought off "I have to make shit conversation for an hour or 2. In a language I don't understand". I would argue that I think the term reserved is better than boring, however its probably as good as debating the difference between stupidity and bravery.

As a person who travels alone for 90-95% of my time, I find that the best experiences has just been walking into a bar and striking up a conversation. Even with other foreigners, its good to hear how there perspective of things are compared to your own. This is obviously much more difficult if they do not understand English, but it is what is.

>>2905284
I think going to an Onsen alone for the first time can be a bit daunting. Depending on the culture you where brought up on. I went to an Onsen with my friend for the first time and he explained a lot of the rules to me, which honestly I didn't know and I would've probably at least missed one or two of them without his help. I wouldn't necessarily blame most people however if they felt more comfortable using a private / semi-private onsen instead of a public onsen IMO.

>I think going to an Onsen alone for the first time can be a bit daunting
It was. As a kid I was terrified of change rooms at school and would wait for everyone to clear out after a swimming lesson before getting changed.
But what's the worst that can happen? Push through a bit of discomfort and get through your fear. What rules are there to remember? Wash yourself before going in and don't stare at the balls is all you gotta remember.

My first time I'd read all about what you're supposed to do online and I got there and there and I dacked myself and went through the door and before the bath area there was this corridor with some kind of basin with an old bloke washing himself in there and I was like oh shit am I meant to wash myself in here before going in or something and I was trying to watch what he was doing to imitate but obviously he was getting weirded out and it was pretty uncomfortable but then I just went in and enjoyed it and no one gave a fuck about me and it was good.

Regarding 'Gaijin daycare' etc., reviews from westerners about the majority Chinese schools make it SOUND like you study more but in reality, it's because the whiteys are playing catchup on kanji cause the school is operating on a 'every chang coming through the door is kanji semi-fluent and just has to learn 訓読み' model
Many of these schools are also just visa mills, however, and are not really interested in teaching you how to speak Japanese in a usable way; they're focused on getting you to pass JLPT so you can apply for some other visa (like a chinese student trying to get a university placement).

That or they are the entry point for part-time jeet workers to come in, get chewed up and spat out back home once they've been fulfilled their purpose as wage-suppressing scab labor (ISI is especially guilty of this, you can find many reports that they're only interested in money and the only 'career assistance' they will give you is getting you working at a 7/11 as a student and dropping you once your visa is out).
The immigrant student worker visa mill issue is exactly why the Japanese government mandated that language schools have to disclose their student ethnicity breakdown every year.

Ultimately, you don't NEED to go to a language school to learn the language. With enough effort you can learn it all at home, for free, though it may take longer and you may lack the willpower. Paying for a language school is basically paying to be in the country so you can try and get more 'natural native practice', so you better plan to make the most of it and actually go out and talk to people. Anyone crapping on language schools as 'gaijin daycare' likely has a misunderstanding about the point of a language school and expects to be grinding 8 hrs a day until mystically becoming fluent. Full-time language schools operate on a half-day class schedule, the rest of your day should be self study or talking to real japs (or part time work if needed).

I did 4 days in Fukouka, Saga and Kumamoto. Honestly, don't even waste your time in Saga, its just one big American mall thats pretty shit. There isn't that much else to do, the locals tend to have the same opinion when I talked to them.

There's a fairly good shrine thats an hours walk from the big tourist trap in Dazaifu called Kamado shrine. Thats a good afternoon, the locals go there and we ended up seeing a shrine maidens/walking into the middle of a wedding. Fukouka in general has a really good small town/big town vibe, the locals where great. Some other random things in this area.

>8 Stars American Bar - Run by an American, cash only. Patrolled by a few Gaijin hunters
>Bar Rummy - Great Rum Bar, has some really pricy Rums but they're top quality / very rare.
>Coffee Shop Clutch - Best coffee in JP by a mile its not even close.
>Mount Unzen is pretty cool. No more than a day, Onsens are good, restaurants are dog shit.

I'd recommend just skipping Saga and going to Kumamoto. Its seedier, but way more fun.

>>
>>2905331
This is how I view it as the anon attending one. It's really just for the visa to be able to live there (as an amerimutt we don't even have working holiday). I specifically chose my school fully aware that the classes aren't going to magically get me to N2 level. Most institutions these days are mills in some form. To even get a student visa you need to either pass the N5 for $130 or have a 'certified' 150 study hours by taking some shitty online course for $130.

Pretty much all language school students are either chinese or brown, there were a few schools I was looking at way up north that were entirely indian/myanmar. The remaining white students are basically just there looking for a long vacation, like me. I'm 90% just paying to be in the country for 2 years with a zairyu card. The lessons are fine, I do feel like I'm improving, and it's only 4 hours per day anyway. It's not the kind of opportunity to waste away writing kanji all day in your room. Going at 30, I'm not stressed about finding employment after or applying to university or working part time so I don't see the need to grind any more than basic reps.

I literally did this exact trip plus Hiroshima in 16 days and that was plenty, although Hiroshima was only a day where I just went to the bomb memorial area and a temple up the street because my main focus was Kyushu.

Fukuoka was 2 days, the best part being the GOAT soup I've ever had from a ramen shop south of city hall. The other 10 days were evenly split between Nagasaki and Beppu with a ryokan stay in the latter. If you don't do a ryokan you could easily hit everything in Beppu in 2 days.

Nagasaki was the best city in the whole trip, including Tokyo, if you like interesting organic exploration since the city's unique "giant hill in a canyon" layout creates all kinds of nooks and side streets with surprises.
>>
>>2905385
Thank you anon, this was helpful. I've been to Hiroshima before on a previous trip so it's not a priority, but someday I would like to go there again. I think I will stay at least 2 nights in Fukuoka, maybe 3 if I feel like it, but then again I have to come back there anyway when I'm returning to Tokyo so I might stay an extra night at that time. I doubt I will do a ryokan in Beppu, I'm trying to save money on accommodation so I can go to more places, but I will definitely hit up onsens while there, so probably 3 days or so. You're also making Nagasaki sound really fascinating, I think I will spend at least 2 nights there if not a bit more.
>Fukuoka was 2 days, the best part being the GOAT soup I've ever had from a ramen shop south of city hall
Do you remember the name of the restaurant? Fukuoka is definitely the place where I want to stuff myself with as much ramen as I can, so recommendations on good spots are more than welcome.
>>
>>2905410
>Do you remember the name of the restaurant?

Taiho Ramen, just southeast across the street from Kego park and shrine. I had a lot of good food on the vacation but I only made a point to remember that place because it's easily top 5 best restaurants I've ever been to regardless of cuisine.

I'd also say Nagasaki is worth making the focus of the trip if you're not splashing out for a ryokan. Walking down the street and looking back up at the hill in the evening is peak comfy, and there's some really stellar sights to see like Dejima, Glover Garden, Urakami Cathedral and Sofuku-ji.

Glover Garden legit made me a bit melancholy because the Japanese are preserving this estate from some random fucking 19th Century businessman while European countries are destroying their own monuments to national heroes.

The Peace Park and Atom Bomb Museum are honestly the least impressive parts of Nagasaki. Hiroshima's museum is way more harrowing while Nagasaki's is more factual and sterile, while the Peace Park is a weird ass Soviet-era communist park. The big statue is all you ever see pictured but there's like a dozen other statues all donated from the Warsaw Pact countries and the whole park is very sterile.

Unless you have some kind of morbid completionist desire to see both Atom Bomb Museums I'd honestly skip that and give more time to other stuff that interests you.

There's quite a few of these types of sites around Japan it really makes you think about how they honor people who know how to do stuff instead of just tearing them down like jealous subhumans.

Also like the Japanese industrialist museums, Toyota has a good one another one I can't recall which but it was like oh we want to build a ship, so we will learn how to build a railroad and learn how to refine steel and learn how to build a drydock basically Speedrun the industrial revolution on a massive scale with out of work samurai .

Gonna make a trip back to Nagasaki this fall to see that glover garden again thanks for reminding me

Yeah I decided to book for an entire month. I hate traveling and usually stay as long as I can in any place I go to, I can't do the
>3 days here, 5 days here
Packing and unpacking shit

I did every single red-light district thing in Namba and ate at every place even remotely worth it. But most of the time, the heat just made me too sick to eat and so I ended up just drinking myself to stumbling tier and passing out every night

The one time I was sober enough to do something for the soul I climbed Mount Ikoma
That was actually kinda fun, but I felt like I was dying the entire time, the thing is just nothing but vertical stairs going up. Entire legs felt just like jelly trying to get back down and ride the subway back.
So maybe I'll enjoy kyoto more with all of it's mountains on everyside.

But otherwise Osaka is just one giant shitty shopping mall filled with too many people

I'm down about 3k probably so far.
>>
is it worth it to stay right near shibuya station? its very convenient obviously but its like double the price of the same hotel/room size if i just go a 7-10minute train ride away
>in b4 poorfag
i hate wasting money on hotels, my particular flavor of autism just doesnt like it, but my autism level is too much for hostels/dorms so i like my own room
my other hotels on my trip are the standard APA, Tobu, business hotels, just feels a bit silly to pay triple the price basically
anons whove stayed before nearby, opinions
>>
>>2905509
My experience, Shibuya isn't worth the premium. Go to another suburb that has the JR line or literally just down the road. Ebisu is usually my go-between. You can get a Airbnb for under $100AUD ($70USD) which is 1 bedroom, it'll be cramped but it'll be good enough. Plus you have to commute out of Shibuya which is an actual nightmare.

I do get your flavour of autism though. While it would be cheaper to stay in a hostels or dorms, the quality and the privacy is a must for me.
>>

I stayed 20 mins away from the center of Osaka, was so much better, bigger apartment by the bay with a kitchen for the same price as some tiny box in the city.

I've done the dumb normie thing, tried to travel everywhere see everything in Japan and it's dumb plus stressful.
Going for a month and just chilling in the same place is magical, locals treat you way differently, whole different world opens up, ironically you get to experience far more having the stability of one place and not always moving around.
>>
>>2905542
I do think it's valid that some places are better for quick bursts of tourism and then fucking off

Japan is too mundane for long form and you feel the grueling grind of the country when you hang around here too long instead of the disney wonderland that most tourists actually get and leave with

SEA countries I think are the best for hanging out long term

>If Japan fully transitioned to Socialism today it would be an unironic utopia.
>There's also the matter of xenophobia, which holds Japan back.
Utterly insane back to back statements, considering the prominence of "socialism in one country". You can't just dump foreigners into another country and expect it to be okay. Japan won't be in Japan if you remove the Japanese. That goes for any country. Just look at Paris. Not even worth visiting.

what's going to happen is that Japan will consolidate all the big corps and capitalists and foreigners in tokyo, set up a second capital, and then make tokyo a semi-autonomous region with entry/exit controls.
long term, tokyo will become an international city-state with deep trade ties to a more agrarian and isolationist japan. much how singapore is to malaysia, or hong kong is to china.

it will probably not even be officially two states like SG and malaysia, just two systems of governance in one nation - like HK.

>>2905561
japan's immigration destiny looks more like singapore or hong kong than it does yurop. the pool of immigrants is all other asians and white dorks. europe only has immigrant problems because they took in a million vagrant niggers and arabs.

Try searching for “ウィークリーマンション” or “マンスリーマンション”online. These days, many of them are available to foreign visitors,
offer multilingual support, and allow you to complete everything from booking to payment online.

Among Japanese people, Airbnb doesn’t have a very good reputation, and many prefer to avoid it if possible.
Half of Osaka’s vacation rentals are run by Chinese operators, which often leads to problems.
Vacation rentals with abnormally high ratings—such as 4.8 or 4.9—are the result of fake reviews.
>>
>>2905608
I think that reputation for Airbnb is not colloquial but worldwide. I live in a fairly heavy apartment area and a lot of people have done work to either restrict or just outright ban short term rentals, usually its the tenants that are the problem. Not the landlord.

Not to shill to much for Airbnb, it does do a lot of heavy lifting and is relatively pain free. You see place you like, you get it and you're good to go. With the weekly/monthly mansions, an an issue I found was that you'd see a price thats around 21,000Y. You go through half the process and then its fees upon fees and other random bullshit. After that its around the same price. The breaking point for me was booking a place, then being told 2 weeks later by the vendor that it was taken, then a month later being told it was open.
>>
>>2905613
Ive never stayed at an air bnb in my entire life, its just like too many horror stories about absolute roach motel tier shitholes, or they're filming you poop etc... at the end of the day i just prefer chains, you go to a redroof or a motel6 yeah you know approximately what you're getting but it will be acceptable. I know you might save money or get some awesome places but i just always have this worst case scenario of you get there it's a shithole and you dont want to stay there and now you're in an unfamiliar location trying to obtain accommodations on short notice.
>>
>>2905654
nta.
If you're solo and grabbing small apartments/rooms then airbnbs have potential for trouble. If you go to the ones that are clearly just corporations/hotel chains leasing full homes out to groups, they're amazing. Check to see if/how the home is advertised on other websites would be the best for that. That and if the room has a million small or bizarre rules attached, don't stay there.

Thank you anon, I will make sure to give that spot a try, the food looks really tasty from the pictures I'm seeing online already.

Noted, I will do some research on what spots look interesting, the tips you gave also sound quite interesting so I'm probably gonna give those a go too. The Hiroshima Peace Memorial Dome was a very memorable experience to me, quite harrowing as you said. I have some interest in taking a look at the museum in Nagasaki too, but I think that will come down to whether I have the time or not. Glover Garden I am definitely putting on my list though.

Can you give your top picks for restaurants? I already have a couple places scouted for Osaka, but I'm always curious to hear recommendations.
>>2905542
In a way, even though moving through cities at a fast pace is a little stressful, funnily enough the most fun I have is when I'm in smaller cities on a short timeframe. The time limit really gets me off my ass and makes me walk around everywhere so I can see as much as I can. It wasn't a super long stay, but when I was in Tokyo for almost 2 weeks straight, I ended up doing a lot of the same stuff day to day and not really exploring, so for me the touring is really fun.

(OP) I get where you're going. From my general perspective of using the platform over the last few years is that bad places do not exist for long. Its very easy to send proof to Airbnb that the place isn't as advertised and isn't up to scratch. The inconvenience is annoying but Airbnb really doesn't tolerate shithousery like that for very long if at all.

This also as well goes two ways. If you're a bad guest and they shit can your rating, people won't take you.

I only have 1 anecdotal experience through an Ex of a bad Airbnb that wasn't advertised in Vancouver in 2021. She got her money back fairly quickly and had a new place to stay within the hour.

Also Q)I'm going back in a week for 2 and a half weeks. I'm wanting to go to a number of Otaku bars, mainly around Tokyo. Mogra is a given, but also have Louise Francoise, Naughty, If anyone else has a recommendation of bars like them around the Tokyo area or anywhere, be interested to know more,

as someone who lives here and been to enough of them, public onsens/baths usually people just want to relax but it depends on context sometimes. late at night in a capsule hotel with a bunch of drunk salarymen? sure. for locals, they'll talk to you if they want to otherwise don't.

for foreigners, idk sure chat them up if you're in the water together and their eyes aren't closed, etc.

newfag going to Japan for the first time from 10/16 - 10/27, planning on typical Tokyo - Kyoto - Osaka. Hoping to hike and was reading about Nagno and Kamikochi.

Is it worth going out of my way for a few days to the Alps or should I just go to Hakone like a good little tourist
>>
>>2905826
I have a feeling you're thinking a little bit to much here. People live off the beaten track and its most likely a family home. Why do people live there? Because they probably like to live here and it fulfills what they need. Is there a historical reason? Probably not anything to deep. This happens in every country, its nothing special.

Bit of an odd question but should I remove my body hair before heading to Japan? I just remember being back at uni and the Japanese girls being dumbfounded by the volume of body hair. I really don't care if people stare, but I don't want to piss people off or make it awkward.

What's the cheapest you can do Japan for?
I just came back from a 2 week long trip and spent $2300 ($800 flight, $700 accommodation, $800 for food, experiences, souvenirs, etc). I want to go again next year for a month and want to know if there's a way to rent an apartment without using airbnb.
At this point would it be better for me to delay graduation and try to study abroad?

You're a foreigner. A tourist. No one expects you to follow local standards. Only thing you need to worry about are visible tattoos if you are going to hot springs, and even then there are places which cater to subhumans or at the very least allow covering them with patches.

>>
>>2905747
Please do not fly to Jipangu with 1214670 Portugisianian Escudos and tell me you will only stay in the eastern capital. Some of the best things to throw your money at are experiences like staying in a nice Hakone ryokan with kaiseki brought to your room or taking a chain of 3 obscure trains with the last one being 40 years old and you can feel it in your spine when the lunatic untenshi in the front pushes the lever into overdrive and rides over old tracks, rocks, maybe even children, like he is on a train simulator gdq speedrun. Granted the second recommendation here isn't expensive but you at least end up in a remote town with you being the only foreigner until this weird group of Russian cosplayers arrives to do a photoshoot. What I am trying to say is yes 7000 USD is more than enough.

You're not really there long enough to do both so I'd say probably hike Mount Hiei while you're in Kyoto or something.

If the 11 days are the whole trip, flight included, I'd definitely say don't stray from a compact set of 1-3 hubs. If it's 11 days in the country with 2 days of arriving and departing not counted then maybe you could squeeze a 4th hub in but honestly I'd staying with the 3.
>>
>>2905997
Did you like the hike?
>>
>>2905974
hakone has alot of tourist trap stuff, avoid them
just do your own hike and youll have fun
hakone is generally just mt fuji for lazy people tho, if you want a real strenuous hike do mt fuji
if you want a good sightseeing hike id recommend something else Oyama the above anon mentioned is nice
Mt Takao is also great, would recommend and its a good half day trip - good trail with stuff to do up it and good sightlines up top, can see fuji sometimes if clear day
little farther away but a great whole day thing is Karuizawa - mt asama is nearby but thats like a full 2 day hike, mt ko-asama is hikeable in 2hours and leads to one of the best waterfalls in japan imo, and theres also some cool shrines nearby as well
hakone is just kind of a trap to me, the main draw is expensive ryokans, if youre not doing that the main thing is just fuji pictures, which you can get from a million other places
just my two cents

Any experience with getting hotel/apartments further away from main subway lines or more off the beaten path in Tokyo?
Surely they must be cheaper or better?

I am also wondering about do's or don'ts for finding peaceful rooms. I dont wanna hear the room next to me cough or his tv etc. or hear trains/traffic

I'm not saying its not possible, but you're one of the dense capital cities in the world. Unfortunately I think you will have to deal with it a bit.

>>2906328
Fuck man, just thinking of Kino no Tabi and just touring round on a bike really does seem like a real chill time. Thats going on the list.
>>
>>2906331
The more time you spend shuffling between trains in Tokyo the more you'll be annoyed that you didn't just get a convenient cheapo hotel in an urban area IMO. Most hotels are pretty quiet and you'll be tired enough by the end of the day that you'll only care whether the bed's comfy and the shower's clean most nights. If you've got a car or other transport when you're outside of the big city you can shop for deals.

>>2906330
You'd be surprised how that might change after a good trip report or two

Talked to a few people who own houses like these, lots of them made it big when Japan's economy boomed in the 70-80's and some of the dot com stuff. Retired and just wanted a house with no people, tech, etc and their kids are already well off in college. The people I know around Gifu bought the houses to make it a generational house as well as the "cheap way to bring kids out of the city" mindset for holidays and stuff.

Not exactly the same but similar to the US where people just buy houses far away wanting to be a bit off from people. Can't blame them would be comfy.

Also, Can't wait to be back for reitaisai. Wonder if some anons are going to be around for halloween too miss those meetups

There are many cases where what was once a village has gradually become depopulated, leaving only a single house standing. Due to depopulation, the festivals that used to be held in these villages have disappeared, and an increasing number of villages are no longer able to properly maintain their local shrines.

>>
I miss my solo travel trip to Japan. I liked Tokyo a lot. Now I'm back at home living with my parents rotting away in my room with nothing to do and the suicidal thoughts are back. I'm thinking about renting an airbnb for 3-4 weeks in Japan again and go live life there for a while. I have no friends, no hobbies sit in front of my pc goon and gamble all day but over there? I was living life, seeing things, doing 20-30k steps a day, interacted with people. Every single day felt amazing.
>>
>>2906376
Ah see i'm the opposite. I'm not liking my time in Osaka and want to head back home and sit around rotting in my room

I got another couple of days in Osaka and then two weeks in Kyoto where I'll force myself to climb some mountains but I'm sick of Japan
>>
>>2906381
I feel you, Osaka wasn't my vibe either. I spent 2 days there and went back to Tokyo. Maybe try a day trip somewhere close by, Nara or something? I was tired towards the end of my trip and felt like coming home but man how I was moving around there beat this dogshit lifestyle I have at home 100x over which makes me miss it so much. I had a purpose to leave the room every single day >.>

Kyoto was pretty hot earlier this month, even at night I was sweating but I just checked and it looks like its rainy, probably keep that in mind if you plan to do nature stuff. How long have you been in Japan for so far?

Otherwise like I said so comfy. I loved that neighborhood, it was truly bliss and a good place to live. So close to the city but also out of it. For long term its the way.

This is where I stayed anon, there's good places on the other side of the main road, do a street view and see what you think: https://maps.app.goo.gl/cF5K1EQ1VRPpA3VN6

>That seems expensive no?
Where I live the best flight ranges from $1450-$1600 depending on day. It's the only reasonable time single ticket for my destination (Kobe) that would have me on the flight less than 24 hours and able to check into my Kobe hotel room before 11:00PM.

There are some tickets cheaper but involve 30+ hours on the plane, overnight layovers, and/or extremely short layovers that make missing the connector flight very likely.

Any advice on the long plane ride? Longest I've been on a plane is from Minneapolis to Chicago, I'm going Minneapolis to Tokyo in a month.
>>
>>2906500
I prefer an aisle seat so I can get up and stretch whenever I want.
The tv in the headrest is going to bombard your head with EMFs the whole time that can give you a headache when you land. If you can get a backrow, you can avoid that.
Try to stay semi-hydrated, the plane can dry you out.
Sleeping is ideal, but failing that I end up just watching whatever movies are on offer. I also pack a book that's a light read.
>>
Should I buy my flights now? (Going in back December)
Is JAL or ANA worth it?
>>
>>2906500
Do NOT assume you'll be able to sleep. I brought some nighttime cold medicine that usually knocks me out cold and downed it before getting on the plane and I didn't even think about sleeping,

Shoot for getting into the country in the evening, going straight to the hotel to sleep only diverting to get something to eat if you're starving. It'll also help you brute force away any jetlag and probably wake up earlier than you usually do at home for full days of actually traveling.

And like the other anon said, definitely get up and stretch at least once every 3-5 hours unless you either luck out and actually fall asleep or are risking getting punched by someone sitting near you. Touch your toes and rotate your hips as best as you can.

I'd also say bring a device with preloaded entertainment and a means to charge it. You should more or less always assume the airplane will not have working Internet and the on-flight movies are hit or miss. Delta actually had a good selection when I went this year, the best ones to watch being horror and action to stay awake.

sleep mask is essential, bring plenty of water in your carry on if you arent flying in business, dont drink too much on the flight, and pick the most normal meal you can, last time i went we flew ANA, my buddy had the seafood rice meal and was absolutely shitting himself about an hour and a half after we landed

1. Get an aisle seat preferrably in the first row in the cabin for maximum legroom and not having to make someone get up when you need to take a piss

2. Bring and empty bottle with you to fill with water once thru security

3. Get wasted in the airport lounge (but not like so drunk they wont let you the plane). The idea is to be drunk enought that you fall asleep almost immediately after you board and get seated and then wake up several hours into the flight

4. Dress comfy and in layers! Pajama or sweatpants + tshirt and an unzippable hoodie or jacket. Flip flops are great, but dont forget to pack actual shoes in your carryon to change into when you land

5. For usa to japan you can now do some online pre customs shit and then get a qr code on your phone to show em instead of filling out the paper form

6. Do NOT do that inflight train ticket purchase shit, you dont know how long it'll take to get your bags and thru customs. Get your tickets (if riding nex or skyliner etc.... from the airport) when you arrive

I always fly direct back and forth 14-16h flights and this is my MO

monthlys
weekly is going to be normal rates, once you hit a month the price goes down quickly, but you don't get cleaning which sorta sucks and need to wash your own sheets
1 bed apartment , two king beds, a few hundred metres from the train station, kitchen, big lounge room, quiet street, washing machine, put my tv stick in for netflix, it was great. Think my only complaint is not much sunlight due to the direction of the place. Jap cuties who lived in my street smiling at me all time.
Ferris wheel is just down the road, Osaka aquarium, so many cool little restaurants, free council ferry over to Universal, I sorta liked all the restaurants and bars across the bay there more than the actual themepark itself

>>
>>2906739
Train being full has never been an issue for me either. If you're worried about having a seat the only thing to worry about is making sure you get a ticket with a seat. Some of the tickets are cheaper but you ride in the first two cars of the train and seating is first come first serve. Otherwise you stand. Which is really only an issue at the busiest parts of the day. But experiencing crowding in the back of a train car with 30+ Japanese randos is not an experience I'm rushing to have again.

I say pretends to be a normal hotel but what I mean is they list themselves on other websites like a normal hotel and you can do multi night stays without having to take your things or check out and then back in. The room itself was very clearly love hotel. Spacious, TV with JAV, no windows, lack of places to hang my towel, and so on. Anyone know any ameyoko alternatives? In tokyo. Fuckin love that place, amazing location to set up a "home base" since theres so much dining and drinking options that you can wander around all night after the trains stop and easily stumble back to your hotel. Being right next to ueno station makes all daytrips easy too

That said i spent like 2 weeks there earlier this year (not consecutive. Went to do stuff in hokkaido and osaka for a week in between)

I just love the very pedestrian friendly vibe and much more "down to earth" nature of the whole place, like i dont like shinjuku, the station itself is a headache and the general area is a little too bougie for my tastes. For more examples of shit i like and dislike; sususkino too high class once again, i really liked shinsekai and the adjacent areas (that long ass hallway of bars and karaoke en route to tobita shinchi). As a vegas analogy im much more of a fremont than a central strip person.

Thinkin about my next trip. I could do ameyoko again, aint broke why fix it etc... but if theres similarly sprawling nightlife districts i could give it a shot

I don't have to book until the beginning of October, so I have time to shop around. I might just stay in Yokohama for the first leg of my trip. It's weird though, I'm seeing nicer 3 and 4 star hotels in Tokyo for $125/night.

>>2907072
I think this is a relative new feature. I don't remember seeing it pre-olympics. Also, if you are an Apple fag like me, the Suica card is built right into Apple Wallet without a third party app. If you have an Apple Watch, you can turn on passive transit and tap the turnstiles without even opening the Wallet app on the watch. And if you use Apple Maps, it will tell you if you don't have enough money on your Suica card when you search directions.

Google maps seems better overall (in details and navigating weird places and shit) but i prefer the look of apple maps so Its mostly what I use. Maybe its cause I never update it idk.

Same. Going back for the first time post covid i was surprised that navitime had become some paywalled garbage and regular google maps was now extremely helpful for train timing and station exit/entrance navigation

How much earlier should I get to the airport for domestic flights within Japan? I'm used to being there at least 3 hours before for international flights but I'm not sure if it's easier for domestic ones. I have an 8am flight from Narita and staying in Asakusa, it's a little over an hour by train so if I catch the first train at 5am I can get there by around 6am so two hours before the flight. I'd rather avoid taking a taxi since it's gonna be really expensive.

Yeah, it sucks. I try to avoid switching hotels when I can, but if I have to I'll make sure I'm spending as much of that 6 hours as possible on the train. Some hotels will let you check in an hour early for 1,000 yen, but it's hit or miss.
>>
>>2907233
Put your luggage in a coin-operated locker. Alternatively, you can take it to a Kuroneko or Sagawa branch and have it delivered to your next hotel at a specified time. If you drop it off in the morning, same-day delivery within the metropolitan area should be possible.
>>
>>2907233
I just take my luggage to a station at 5-6 AM before the lockers are taken, go back to my hotel, have breakfast, check out at 9:55

Depends, in the USA going the same distance I do in Tokyo it's 3-4x more. My euro friends don't notice a difference in cost.

Like to go from Shinjuku back to Kanda/Ginza I'm getting charged 30-40 bucks, same distance back home is like 12. You also gotta remember the average japanese citizen salary is stupid low

The smartest thing to do is to arrange for your luggage to be sent to the hotel where you’ll be staying the next day at the hotel front desk the day before (be sure to take out anything you’ll need to carry with you). That way, even if you take the Shinkansen from Tokyo to Osaka, for example, your luggage will already be waiting for you at your hotel in Osaka.

I was in this thread earlier talking about using Airbnb and that its not so bad, this however is perhaps the biggest down side of using Airbnb. You have to haul luggage.

Generic question incoming, I have like a 5-6 days still open of my holiday in September between the 12th & 18th (if my current plans work). I was thinking about going up north. Either doing Sapporo and then doing a bit of an adventurer around the area OR doing something in Sendai and visiting neighboring towns. Appreciate any opinions. I'll be primarily walking / public transport so any advice on which is better or worse is also appreciated.

Idk where you're from but a lot of that is the norm for when you move far away, its also not a holiday experience. Its work and JET from my understanding places you anywhere from rural towns to bigger cities.

Have you figured out the best way to decide if you will like a hotel before booking it for a week or 2?

Booking reviews can help a bit for obvious faults or quirks of a hotel but sometimes the reviews can be so different so you don't know which reviews to go by

>>
>>2907296
I just go balls in, I've only stayed in 1 hotel where the place was mid but I was paying like 15 dollars a night. Reviews are stupid because you have moments similar to King of The Hill goes to Japan and they fuck up the reviews.

What sketchy places are you booking that you need to test the waters on, all APA's are going to be more or less the same. Same with any chain really.
>>
>>2907296
Look at recent reviews and lowest reviews, should be few or no one's, disregard Jews or gulf Arabs 1 star rating

Make sure grocery store, McDonald's public transit nearby

After 50 reservations you will figure it out

Kitasenju is 100% Tokyo, and nothing like Tachikawa, which is also in Tokyo, brainlet. Completely different vibe and atmosphere, and a perfectly good place to live. Is it a good place for the stereotypical normie tourist, no. And hopefully it’ll stay that way.

Yes, Adachi is a ward within Tokyo’s Old City, and Tachikawa is a city in the Tokyo metropolitan area.

Resale tickets are only available through Tixplus. I've never used this website before, so I don't know if you need a jap phone number to create an account. It looks like you can only enter the lottery for Eplus tickets if you aren't a fan club member.

https://trade.tixplus.jp/artists/tour/14855

Trying to get tickets to anything as a foreigner is a huge pain in the ass. There are a few concerts I'm going to in December that can only be paid for at a convenience store, so I have to send money to an acquaintance via PayPal, and then he has to go into a 7-Eleven and pay with cash. A lot of artists are finally switching to electronic tickets and credit card payments, but Japan is still 20 years behind the rest of the world on this.
>>
>>2907332
Since the room rate at a love hotel is only slightly higher than the per-person rate at a mid-range hotel, it might actually be a reasonable price when you factor in the experience.
>>
>>2907281
It's fulltime work in quite possibly a rural setting. Compared to other ALT opportunities in Japan, it's really the only one I'd consider starting out with. The others will rip you off. (If you are already established you may be able to negotiate a better deal.)
There are also Eikaiwa companies of varying quality, but those will likely have you working at least one day of the weekend and early evenings.
If you are fortunate enough to get into JET, I'd consider getting a gaming laptop (and cooling stand) to take to Japan. Or just buying one in Japan when you get there. JET is very hard to get into, so it likely won't happen unless you really want it to.

I did JET. It’s good overall. The pay is the best among ALT companies and it has more cachet than your other generic ones (though that isn’t saying too much). There are still weirdos but the filtering is MUCH heavier than the other companies based on the sheet fact that there’s a rigorous application and interview. You can’t choose where you are placed but the majority of JETs are in varying degrees of rural town. If it’s small enough you could even be someone people greet and recognize on the street. Can be pretty comfy. The thing the interviewers worry most about is how you handle isolation, which is the only main problem that Japan can offer to adjustment besides the culture shock of zomg chopsticks and speaking Japanese

If I'm reading this correctly, you might move your trip to November? It looks like it'll be about 10 degrees warmer (Fahrenheit) in November with a high in the 50's compared to the 40's in January. Don't think there's a huge difference in rainfall. Both will be Wintry, if that's your vibe. People tend to prefer Spring of Fall in Japan. Spring has the Cherry blossoms blooming and hanami trails and parties. Fall has the leaves changing.
Summer can be hot and humid, especially with the concrete heat factor in the cities, and that has taken people out before.

Maybe things are different in your country, but in Japan, a Joshikai ( girls' nights out ) is just friends hanging out—it's not inherently sexual or related to lesbian relationships. It's literally just women grabbing food, drinks, and chatting about life.

>Both of those arenas are centrally located in their respective cities, and there are hundred of hotels within 20 minutes.
That's why I thought I'd get a dozen recommendations.

>Your criteria needs to be a little more specific if you want a serious recommendation. What is your price range?
Preferably under 100 euro a night, definitely under 150. All I need is at least brokie tier room by european standarts where I can sleep at night. Nothing super claustrophobic. Hostels aren't an option because I am a gigasperg.

>How much time are you willing to spend on a train each day?
Under an hour one way. As far as I know, asians have public transport figured out so subway should be decent there.

>Will you do anything else besides attend sumo tournaments?
I'll only have free time in the morning if I skip lower division bouts. Maybe a day-trip one day before and after the tournament.
I've heard they are real strict on your itinerary during the application process, so I have to have that shit all figured out.
The plan is to have breakfast, go to the arena or some optional morning activity, lunch, see the top rank bouts and get back.
I have 0 knowledge of anything interesting I can see there other than sumo. Any recommendation for some basic tourist shit I can see in half a day is welcome.

It's either March tournament in Osaka or May tournament at Kokugikan. If I can get a visa that is.
>>
>>2908097
Ok, if you're just trying to keep it under 100 euros and you don't mind spending an hour on the train, you have unlimited options. Osaka is generally cheaper than Tokyo, so I'll usually stay somewhere within walking distance of Osaka station. You could probably get an APA for 70 or 80 euros, which is fine if you're going by yourself. You can go even cheaper if you stay somewhere on the south part of the Osaka loop, which might even be within walking distance from the venue. You just want to be careful not to book a shitty hotel that is directly next to the train tracks because it gets loud.

In Tokyo, I always stay near Iidabashi station, which I never see anyone mention. It has a train line and four metro lines, so it's a straight shot to almost anywhere in the city. It's also far enough north of the Imperial Palace that there aren't many tourists in that neighborhood. That's going to be more expensive though. You'll be at 100 euros or maybe a bit more. People in this general always shill Asakusa. I've never stayed there before, but it is cheaper, and you're still within 20-40 minutes of most places you would go in Tokyo.
>>

I want to get great seats for every single day and they are increasing ticket prices next year. Since I'm paying whatever they'll charge for tickets I figured I'd limit my spending on hotels. As long as I don't end up in a junkie hotspot neighborhood I'll be okay.
Maybe my question should've been where not to book a hotel.

>You could probably get an APA for 70 or 80 euros
These are just apartment hotels, right? Or is it some chain?

Anything similar for Osaka? Since I'm limited to mostly walking distance attractions I figured there wouldn't be much difference. Since I'm not into anything japanese other than sumo.

i've stayed at that apa both times i've gone to tokyo, and it's honestly great. there's a nice little food spot right in front of ryogoku station, alongside all of the restaurants that line the street where the station's at. the apa hotel itself also has a lawson on the second floor, and right outside of the station is a 7-11 on both exits, so you'll always have options for snacks and drinks

I’ve lived in Japan for years, speak the language, and still run into this from time to time going into izakaya. There are enough places that I just move on and find another spot, but I traveled around Asia for 2 years and not once was ever turned away from a place. Due to their education and the bubble they live in, 95% of Japs can’t deal with a situation that they perceive may not stick to the script they expect. It’s weird, but it is what it is. How anyone thinks Japs are cooler and more pleasurable to be around than Chinks I’ll never understand. Chinks have their quirks, but they are far more compatible with westerners than Japs will ever be.

I am starting some tentative planning for my third trip next year in Novemeber. yes I know it's early but I like to have my hotels and flight booked by March.

here's what I have planned for now.

>Arrive at Fukouka
>Nagasaki 2 days
>Fukouka 3 days (city + outside trips)
>Yufuin 1 day (I never stayed at an onsen town and this looks like the sanest option for my trip without having to change too many trains, but I'm open to suggestions)
>Beppu two days. (a full day in beppu and the other one in either Usuki and/or Kitsuki)
>Hiroshima 2 days
>Otsu 4 days (not for goign to Kiyoto, been there, done that, beautiful city but full as fuck. more for the Lake Biwa and to see Enryakuji)
>Toba/Ise 2 days
>Tokyo 5 days.
what do you think?

here's my issue: I feel like the Nagasaki days are a bit too short. iirc I can visit Nagasaki in two days, but I can't see shit in the prefecture. I know htat Nagasaki has an airport, in fact in fact I wanted to go there to begin with, but I also heard that there are virtually no taxi and a 14 our flight wastes me.
>>
>>2908569
By "arrive at Fukuoka" do you mean Fukuoka Airport is where you're arriving from? Because if that's the case I'd say why not just land in Nagasaki Airport, do everything else on Kyushu, backload Fukuoka then move on to Hiroshima?

As for the stuff after Hiroshima I'd say that's a lot of travel time for some stuff that's either redundant or just not time economical. Unless you're really enamored with Mie Prefecture it's pretty redundant with what you already saw in Kyushu.
>>
>>2908569
What are you planning to do in Hiroshima for two whole days?

Osaka is sort of a gateway city - Nara Himeji Kobe
but if youre doing a day there theres plenty to do:
Umeda Sky building - Floating Garden Observatory
Namba Yasaka Jinja - lots of other cool temples just find ones you like
Osaka Aquarium Kaiyukan - top 2 aquarium in Japan, one of the better in the world
Cosmo Tower
Shinsaibashi/Dotonbori/Shinsekai - this is more a (You) thing some people hate this some people like this - i like kind of the obnoxious vibe and flair here, you might not
one of my favorite shops in Japan is near here Tower Knives Osaka - excellent cooking knives if youre into that
then obviously Osaka is the second best monger city aside from Tokyo if thats something you want to do - Tobita Street is kind of a must walk by at the least even if you dont want to partake
but yes skip Osaka Castle, if you really want to see it just walk by quickly, its all reconstructed, just snap a few pictures outside dont go in

>Ih eard that the nagsaki airport is badly connected though.

It's an hour-ish to get from the airport to Nagasaki proper, which is slightly less time than from Fukuoka via shinkansen, but with the added benefit of not backtracking and therefore taking more travel time out of the overall trip. I don't know where your flight is coming in from, but if you're landing at Fukuoka you're probably coming from somewhere southwest of Japan, meaning you could probably get a cheaper flight that stops in Shanghai and connects to Nagasaki. Hell even landing somewhere in Japan that connects to Nagasaki would still be an overall time save on the trip just by consolidating 2 days' worth of transit into one.

If it was me I'd fly into Nagasaki Airport however possible, do all your other Kyushu stuff and then from Beppu go northwest to Fukuoka for the stuff you're interested in there.

For staying in Osaka and primarily using it as a base of operations to do day trips to Kyoto and Nara, would it be worth it to get a hotel with an indoors onsen? Due to the Chinese government's recent travel restrictions to Japan, Chinese travel operators who can no longer make easy money off their compatriots are now turning to prey on tourists from other countries.
Make sure not to be fooled by cheap online tour advertisements, and pay close attention to reviews and ratings.
After all, booking with a major, reputable travel agency is much safer and more reliable, even if it costs a bit more

Will be staying in Tokyo for a while here soon. Is it feasible to buy clothes over there for someone 5'6? If so, where to look? Not fat.

How much does it cost to send the luggage forward. I'm going to Japan soon and will be doing around 4 hotel switches in total. And are they safe?

For a first time 14 days in Japan is May right after golden week or late September early October better?

>Japan won't be in Japan if you remove the Japanese.
But they won't be removing the Japanese, they would be creating new Japanese people from immigration through naturalisation and integration. Just like the US had for centuries. It's that or the total demographic collapse of Japan.
>>
>>2905746
Japan is on the trajectory to be exactly like that in the 2030s. You cannot escape globohomo ideology. It will become the new Christianity for the next couple of centuries.

They are Japanese ultranationalists who go around hunting huwaito piggus with katanas every night.

>should I remove my body hair
Yeah. And start taking estrogen while you're at it. You need to be full blown trannymaxxed to do well in Japan.

Been here a few days so far
Seeing too many jeet not a ton but any is too much
It's oddly either huge family hordes or solo jeetas, always fat
Since I have some flavor of autism I enjoy the nips autistic concern about things here so far

After Golden Week is too late to see the cherry blossoms, and late September to early October is too early for the autumn foliage. If you don’t have a strong preference, either period would be just fine.

How it feels in the shade
London: Because the air is dry, you feel instantly cooler the moment you step into the shade. If a breeze blows, it is actually quite pleasant.
Tokyo: Because the air itself holds onto heat and moisture, that "lukewarm discomfort" never goes away—even if you step into the shade or a breeze blows.

as a day trip from Tokyo I took a train to Shimoyoshida to go to the pagoda, then I moved to Kawaguchiko and I rented a bike to ride around the lake. It was a nice and chill experience, but that was enough to fill the day so if you really want to go to all the spots in that tour then doing it all on your own with public transport might be a pain in the ass
>>
>>2909526
>>2909528
So something like march 10-24 would be better? Or there are hordes of tourists waiting for cherries? April is out I don't want zombie apocalypse. May right after golden week is already hot? Maybe late September is just better?
>>
>>2909519
I'm generally against guided tours, but I think one day tours for Kawaguchiko and Hakone are fine. You could take a train to those places easily enough, but it can be a pain in the ass to get around on your own once you're there.
>>
>>2909550
I'd have to agree. I personally haven't visited Kawaguchiko because traveling around that area looks so tedious without a car. So though it might be pricey and forces you to follow an itinerary, a guided tour that takes you around might actually be worth it in that particular area.
>>
>>2909498
No, no typo. If it is that convenient then great, all I really needed to confirm.
>>
>>2909580
You should be good. I'm 5'8" and I wear a medium in the US. In Japan, I can wear a medium, but it's snug. I'll get medium t-shirts, but with long sleeve shirts or jackets I'll go up to a large for the extra sleeve length.
>>
>>2909542
I'm here currently weather has been pleasant/fine aside from one day heat wise
But it's been off/on raining the past week
Which can put a damper, heh , on your plans
So if you come this time you need to be prepared to deal with rain and get wet or be able to be flexible
Weather clears, usually, around another week or so, then it's pretty nice generally
If you don't care about autumn leaves late September is a pretty good time, why I'm here now
I've never been around that time in march you mentioned so dunno, golden week is fun but it's a LOT going on
>>
>>2909580
>>2909419
If you got big arms or shoulders you might wanna go large, unless you like a tighter fit but medium should be perfect for the most part

I got back from a 9 day trip a few days ago and I'm writing this as more so as a reflection rather than a full on experience of what happened.

Overall I had an incredible time especially that first full day which was utterly magical. By the time I checked into my hotel around 5-6PM on the day I arrived left only a few hours to explore since I was pretty cooked from the flight. I thought about going to Tokyo Tower but decided against it and went to Tokyo Character Street and explored before hitting a kobe beef burger place not too far from my hotel and going to sleep. If I weren't so cooked that day I would have remembered to grab a Suica card at the station instead of going to grab one in the morning the next day. I also would have delayed grabbing an almost 200$ burger since I was starving and could barely function by that point.

Having never travelled away from home aside for 2-3 days here and there over the past few years this was a momenentous trip for me. The first full day was packed full of new experiences and surprises. I woke up extremely early and went for a walk, and around 8AM I started looking for stores that were open but nothing was - this was when I learned that most places in Japan open at 10-11AM which caught me completely off guard and made the week a little difficult because I kept waking up super early and spent the first 2-3 hours each day just wandering around. This was fun but spending needless energy did me in by the end of the trip which at that point felt so far away that I didn't consider this.

I've been to the country and enjoyed a lot of "traditional" tourist shit.

I legit don't understand people's fascination with Geisha/Geiko. I also don't even really understand how it survived as a job after the 19th Century. They're just women in nice looking costumes doing typical hostess shit.

They're the pandas of human tourist attractions.

Tokyo has been as cold as it usually is in November both yesterday and today.

Well I'm back in Japan again
This time Hokkaido
I really want to live in this country again but I hear it keeps getting harder to do
I already know the language quite well, unless if you asked me to read too much kanji

It feels so refreshing here
I just spent the most intense summer ever and I'm over summer entirely, autumn in Hokkaido is amazing and let's bring on winter

Foreigners however are actually really irritating, they come here like it's disneyland and they're loud and act retarded. It's not hard to keep your voice down, walk lightly and not like elephants, have spatial awareness of your surroundings, and stop filming everything. It's also not hard to learn a few phrases in Japanese.

I also know a bunch of foreigner residents here who studied with me and stayed in the country after while I left. Haven't talked to them for years however and don't really want to.
>>
>>2908569
This seems exhausting. You should pick a region and just explore what it has to offer. Did you account for travel time between places in this itinerary?
>>
For first two weeks stay is it generally better to skip Hiroshima? I'm thinking standard Tokyo Kyoto Osaka probably Hakone in between. Is Universal Studios really that good?
>>
>>2909679
Personally I'd skip uso, the only theme park with wasting a day on is disneysea, but that just my opinion
Hiroshima is cool but for like 2 days, one day for miyashima and one day just exploring Hiroshima itself mostly the ee2 stuff
Dunno if you wanna take 2/3 days out of your trip for that, up to you

Please be aware that there are only about 100 to 150 days a year when Mount Fuji is visible from Fujiyoshida or Hakone.
>>
>>2909679
I did a day trip to Hiroshima from Osaka. Took a bullet train there and back. Mainly hit the Peace Park, Castle and A-Bomb museum.
I really only booked it at my travel partner's insistence that we go.
That said, it's a fine town with a local take on a dish called okonomiyaki.
You can probably get a day or two out of it.
>>
>>2909694
I'm only thinking about it because of Miyajima and Kure. Maybe some ryoukan near the sea instead of Hakone. But maybe that's better for second trip. With Yokosuka as Kure replacement.

I'll probably go once a year for few years to see everything I want.

Even when it's sunny, the summit of Mount Fuji is often shrouded in clouds.
Even if you can't see Mount Fuji, there are still plenty of things to enjoy in Hakone.
