how is slovenia for traveling?

I spent 12 days there in early fall last year. While I enjoyed it there were things I could have done to have a better time. The goal of my trip was to just relax, read a few books and do some light outdoors stuff. I stayed in Bled for 9 days and another 3 in Ljubljana. Things I would have done differently 1. Rent a car. The country is not very big and doesn't have the best public transport system in place. It's mostly busses and I feel like I missed out on a lot of country because I didn't feel like spending multiple hours a day on a buss2. Bled is very beautiful but wildly over touristed. It is a day trip and nothing more. I didn't hate it because it had enough amenities around and I could have a decent meal somewhere around town every night. If you're looking for more secluded/rural places do some research and pick a different place. Even Lake Bohinj is a wildly different vibe. Be warned the country does feel very provincial outside of Ljubljana and can leave you desiring some of the higher end things. Other than that is very nice little country. Not a ton of anglo tourists but plenty of slaves and German speakers. I couldn't imagine there would be a better time to visit than Fall. I was there a bit early but the trees still had decent color. I could only imagine how beautiful it would be in peak foliage.
i went with 2 friends about 8-9 years ago. we did a trip by car originating from berlin through czechia -> austria -> slovenia -> italy. we did some camping in austria and slovenia.slovenia was definitely the highlight of this trip. ljubljana is a gorgeous city. the architecture feels like a mix between hungarian and austrian, and feels extremely coherent throughout the city. many of the in-between elements (like bridges, markets, riverbanks, etc.) were designed by a single architect named jože plečnik, hence the coherence.we camped out for a couple of nights on the istrian peninsula, right between italy and croatia. during the 2nd night, we camped by a beach, and although there was a crystal-clear night sky before we went to sleep, we were woken up by a thunderstorm where lightning was striking basically every second. it was terrifying, but we decided to stay in our tents, as the path to the car led through a much more elevated position. we woke up to perfect weather, took some mushrooms we picked up in ljubljana, and i had an intense but positive experience.anyway, you can't go wrong travelling in this general area of europe, in my experience. if i went again, i'd go during early autumn. oh, and definitely rent a car if you're able to, as the other anon said.
