Irish man here, stereotypical red hair appearance. Considering traveling to CDMX for 4-5 days to visit the Anthropology Museum, Pyramids, food culture etc.
What should I be aware of?
>>
I just left cdmx after solo trip. Perfectly safe just take normal precautions for latam. Dont go out at night, watch out for pickpockets etc, use discreet under shirt money pouch etc. Transit makes it easy to get around. One thing is though is that mexico is more third world than i was expecting, more like vietnam in terms of development. Big differences in neighbourhoods like Polanco is well off and safe, but outskirt slims are huge and best avoided.

Do you guys speak Spanish or English when in Mexico?

Mexico is definitely Third World, but most people have spending money thanks to the huge number of remittances from the US. Colombia felt poorer, edgier, more desperate and anarchic in the streets compared to Mexico. Mexican slums are ugly, but most of them are proper houses, not shacks. Colombians are more polite and upbeat and friendly than Mexicans, however. Mexicans are often surly scowling hombres who speak rudely.

tbf Mexico is pretty safe for tourists. Mexicans generally recognize that harming tourists is bad for business. They also tend to like the Irish, so you should have a good time.

Wearing shorts will make it obvious you're a tourist. I mean the appearance will too, but wear pants instead and don't wear sandals if you want to stand out less
>>
My only issue with Mexico is that it feels like this country is built for women. A lot of restaurants, eateries, shopping etc. Sometimes Mexico oddly resembles Italy or Spain at times, and Mexicans are def like South Italians in that the interiors of buildings tend to be much nicer than the exteriors.

I'd be very interested in spending two months travelling from Mexico City to Campeche slowly, any recs for places to stop on the way. Was thinking Oaxaca, Veracruz, Chiapas, Campeche

>Campeche
Zapatistas, an anarcho-communist group, control part of that province. I don't think they do anything particularly violent or harmful to non-feds (kind of like the Maoists in India) but just know that if you plan on going deep into Campeche

Hell yeah, cool as. My understanding is Mexico is pretty safe as long as you don't try and do drugs - then it becomes very dangerous. Most of the people from my country who get in trouble there, it always ends up being trying to buy drugs from the wrong people or something adjacent

It's a sign of low social trust. An ugly facade is less likely to attract thieves or swindlers. It's the same in eastern Europe

Because Latinas love to fuck so they need many options to facilitate it and Mexican food is amazing. But yeah in terms of variety.. its a urban sprawl in a valley. Not much to do adventurous

Your lowest tier status as a white person and your vulnerability to escape this lowly tier altogether by joining Islam

Islam is worth it for four Indonesian wives

Men shouldn't bare their legs in public.
>>
It's not the US, you don't have the right to bare legs in the constitution
>>
Mexico is less safe then afghsnistan and the American perspective on that is totally, totally warped.

I was fine in the middle east because only an identifiable minority of terrorists wanted to kill me, you can take measures against that, most drug adicts aren't armed.

But in Mexico there are a hundred thousand armed criminals taking drugs who might or might not shoot you just to steal your mobile phone. They're everywhere, you can't avoid them, they're anonymous, you can't avoid looking rich.

And Americans have special protection from the US government, and benchmark danger against senseless violence in the US, which is third world already.
