Ever been impressed with how disappointing something is in real life? And I don't mean the obvious tourist traps like Plymouth Rock where it's pretty clear there's nothing to see. I mean ones that can look cool in a decent picture. I'd seen the Supertrees hyped up online for years. People saying only Singapore could do this and the whole world is behind back when these things were first presented. Though they must be pretty impressive.Turns out it just feels like a cheap amusement park attraction within a fairly mid park. It's tacky pink and neon green plastic piping with vines that only go up partway.
>heavily edited and documented resort or tourist trap turns out to be tourist traplol
>>2907788I can see how this would be impressive in 1992 or something.
>>2907788These trees in Singapore are a lot more interesting and magical at night time.In the day time they are meh.Best part about Singapore is the hot Korean k-pop star looking girls for 100$ in Geylang.I also enjoyed some of the street food.
>>2907877>magical at night time. It's magical if you come from a small village in the jungle.
>>2907880I’m from Canada, so close enough.
>>2907788Looks like a work in progress, they clearly seem to be growing stuff on them and it hasn't reached the top yet, might be years until that happens.
>>2907877>Best part about Singapore is the hot Korean k-pop star looking girls for 100$ in Geylang.expound
>>2907885They've been there for 15 years, anon. That's as good as it's going to get.
>>2907788Uruguay
>>2907788I feel greatly attacked with this post.
>>2907788Literally nowhere is capable of living up to hype because it has to exist in real life. A curated tourist picture or video online is only a simulacrum of the actual place. The closest to living up to expectations a place can be is if it's supposed to be really big and it is, in fact, really big. A landmark being really large as its selling poing is as close to a 1:1 relationship between fantasy and reality it can get.
>>2907929U 2 faggot Fuck you
>>2908408Wrong. Paris and Rome live up to the hype.Paris mostly because it gets hate.
>>2908426Rome is a few cool ruins and like 2 genuinely impressive buildings connected by an incredibly shitty city almost like they tried to cram a 2000 year old street layout inside a modern city
>>2908431>Rome is a few cool ruinsYeah, and the Grand Canyon is just a hole. We'll leave it there, you outed yourself as a retard.
>>2907788The pandas at the Tokyo zoo. Wait in line for hours. Herded past them in fifteen seconds. They are just sitting there.Behavior of the Japanese women was more interesting
>>2908434Did you expect them to play piano?
>>2908432There's only so many piles of limestone left around because Cicero took a shit behind it that one can care about.
>>2907789Sorry you're retarded
>>2907788the nighttime canopy walk at gardens by the bay is kind of cool. but yeah, other than that, not that impressive. but anyone who goes to SIN to look at trees deserves to be disappointed. >>2907929yeah uruguay is fkn shit but i wouldnt say it's a hyped-up tourist destination. montevideo was the most souless, grim place ever. no point going there when buenos aires is a 30 min buquebus away.
>>2907788i've mentioned this before on this basement dweller forum, but the basilica cistern, where people line up around the block before opening time, is a 10 min in-n-out. I paid $70aud for it a few months ago, and im still seething. > picrelno words needed.
>>2907788Singapore is a potemkin village, I'm telling you all, a city of Chinese tard-wrangling south asians ain't at nice as it's puffed up
>>2908434>They are just sitting there.Anon, it's a zoo, not a circus.
>>2908483fucking goycattle
>>2907788Palacio de Cristal in Madrid, Spain.irl it's just an empty glass dirty building
>>2907788also, this spider, its not as big as you think
>>2908483i've the opportunitty to see de tower, but i skipped it , i enjoy the colliseum more
>>2907788I liked itThe gardens are majestic imo, it's quite an enojyable day out>>2907892lorong 16 to 24, just wander around, you'll work it out, those houses don't have lights out the front for no reason>>2908434I didn't expect much from Osaka aquarium but was quite awesome, seals and the whale sharks were a highlight. Think I sat there watching them for 30 mins. Good value for what it is.
>>2908435kek
>>2908481Montevideo looks like a capital city version of Corpus Christi, kekProbably nicer than Corpus if we're being honest
my family went to Dollywood years ago. Idk how hyped it is across the country but it was pretty disappointing. It's basically a amusement park for little kids. There are only 1 or 2 actual rollercoasters.
The mona lisa at the Louvre. It's a very small painting, you can't even get close to it, and you will barely even see it due to swarms of Asians photographing it. There were plenty of much more impressive works there that had no one around them, imo.
>>2907788Super trees were meh. It was fun to walk on the walkway at night tho. Cool view. The two dome gardens one kind of sucked but the one with the waterfall was coo. My favorite part of gardens by the bay was walking along the less visited outdoor areas during rain I had it all to myself.
I feel like I've been pretty lucky in not being disappointed by anything I've chosen to visit. The closest is probably Hokokuji Temple in Kamakura. It was smaller and less dense than I expected. Still wasn't terrible, and thankfully everything else in the area was a step up, so the day still ended up great. If we're counting cities in general, not just sights or activities, I was disappointed by Athens. The Acropolis is really cool, but the city itself is a giant, ugly mess of dull apartment buildings and graffiti. I loved everywhere else I went in Greece, but I have no real desire to go back to Athens.
>>2907788>Man made structuresThey look disappointing even in pics anon
>>2908483european tourist places were all pieces of shitbut go slightly off the beaten path and many treasures
>>2907788souless slop: the country, its like dubai of south east asia except most people are poor
>>2913151No... Singapore is sorta lowkey boring after 2 days.... yes. But it's not Dubai because it's actually a livable city with great public transit and walkable streets and fun cafes and coffee shops and outdoors areas to see crocs and shit.
>>2913151if you see poor people in singapore, they are probably not singaporeans or even residentsevery day there is a flood of people across the bridge from johor bahru in malaysia. the cost of living in malaysia is a fraction of singapore so it is common for low paid and unskilled workers to do the daily commutesingapore has a population of about 6 million and about 400,000 people do the JB-SIN commute each day
>>2907892not that anon but lorong 16-22 is where you see the houses with glowing lights out front, every house is a nationality, you'll work it out quick, dont feel pressured to commit walk out if you don't feel comfortable, seriously this is their designated containment zone now orchard is deadthere's a lot around Little India still but it's not legal and sus as fuck also, just go to Geylang where it's ok and safe
>>2908483>basilica cisternIt's so huge, what do they do, take you down the stairs and not let you go any further?
>>2913175>outdoors areas to see crocsanon sees a water monitor lizard - "ooooo it's crocodile"
>>2913237don't be daft anon. nobody mistakes monitor lizards for crocodiles, except maybe people with really poor eyesightwe get monitor lizards round where i live in malaysia. they hide in the open drains. it's always a bit sad when you see one as roadkill
>>2913238>i live in malaysia.My condolences.
>>2913238Indians mistake fast moving freight trains for cute woman all the timeproto-komodo dragon to crocodile isn't much of a leap
>>2913151The median wage in SG is $1200And thats with zero minimum wage lawsThey're doing better than most of Europe
>>2913384good luck living on 1200 in singapore. top kek. and thats the median.
>>2913384eh? what nonsense is this>The median wage in SG is $1200wrong. just totally wrong>And thats with zero minimum wage lawssingapore doesn't have a national minimum wage but it has the pwm (progressive wage model) and lqs (local qualifying salary) which is basically minimum wage for different types of jobs
>>2913237>>2913238Pic related is from Singapore. Yes I saw a million water monitors but they have crocidiles in the national park areas by the channel with malaysia Literally all you did by accusing me of misidentifying a water monitor was hurt my feelings rather than make the world a better place.

>>2913470>hurt my feelingskekthose broken fee fees, like sands through the hourglass or leaves in the wind

>>2913637>notice how not once you've offered an alternative number here?since you apparently can't understand the difference between median and mean what would be the point?were you an ipad kid anon? that might explain why you're such a moron and yet so impotently hostile to people you will never meetbut since you are so desperate to be spoon fed the information you could easily find for yourself, here read this:https://stats.mom.gov.sg/iMAS_Tables1/LabourForce/LabourForce_2025/mrsd_2025LabourForce_survey_findings.pdf>The nominal median (P50) gross monthly income of full-time employed residents grew from $5,500 in 2024 to $5,775 in 2025remember that is singapore dollars. i am assuming from your demeanour that you are american- i know americans sometimes forget there are other currencies in the worldmake sure you read the whole 80 page document to understand the context. i am assuming you can read and have a sufficient attention span, which are quite big assumptions about someone who hasn't graduated from playground name calling

>>2913698This but without the irony
>>2913961And add some lasers alsoopticians need to earn a buck
>>2913780I like them. When I go to Singapore I mostly stay at Marina Bay Sands and from my room I can look down on the area where the supertrees are. It's a bit like looking down on a fireworks display or something. It's cool to sit at my window with a brandy or something and watch the displays. Each to their own though I suppose.

>>2914044>local dubs rapist lures in unsuspecting victims
Singapore is good to visit for a few days max.To live there, expats who aren't living like peasants usually deal with the following:- Make 200-350k USD per year at a decent corporate job in exchange for virtually no freedom- Pull 70 hour weeks on the regular, eating shitty take out food everyday and finishing work at 10-11pm- Have zero job security, see your colleagues get fired over the slightest shit and being forced to move back home because the job market is brutal enough as it is for the locals- Pay lower taxes but everything you make goes to ridiculous over-the-top rents and entertainment to convince yourself you aren't living a lie- Grind like that for 5-10 years until you get a VP/Partner role where you can somewhat sit back and delegate the work to the rats below you- Most will not reach that level so you'd have wasted 5-10 years of your life absolutely wrecking yourself for nothingDon't get fooled by the towers and night life, even Dubai is better by comparison in terms of quality of life.Paris is great if you have money to spend, and a total dump if you're broke, it really depends on the person and their perspective.Rome is good too but once you get past the tourist areas, there's very little bringing you back. But the historical importance of the place makes it worth it.No place is perfect, but literally anywhere in europe mogs Singapore in terms of quality of life. The higher earning potential doesn't count considering the retarded cost of living unless you open a company and the government throws millions in subsidies at you to hire locals and set up a permanent base (That's the only profitable route for foreigners to make it big in Singapore).
>>2915909>anywhere in europe mogs Singapore in terms of quality of life.Does Singapore have rampaging mobs of machete wielding Africans burning down the country like France and Belgium?
>>2915917If you got money you won't have to worry about any of that since you won't be living in the concerned areas. If you're a middle class worker both places will be painful in their own way.
>>2915917Worse, they have jeets.
>>2915917Why don't you leave your mom's basement and find out? Oh that's right, you can't. You are too hysterically afraid and constantly shit your pants.
>>2915958Jeets are just mildly annoying though compared to the murdering rapist middle easterners and africans in the EU.
>>2917926They're nothing compared to the /pol/ virgin who keeps making the same retarded posts from his mom's basement all day long while shitting his pants in hysterical fear.
>>2915909>To live there, expats who aren't living like peasants usually deal with the following:expats don't live like peasants. you are confusing expats and cheap migrant labour>- Have zero job security, see your colleagues get fired over the slightest shit and being forced to move back home because the job market is brutal enough as it is for the localsnot many jobs have true job security these days. but expats probably have more than most. the majority of expats are people working for international companies who have been posted to their host country by their companies to do a task. example, i was recently talking to a guy who had been sent to taipei by his company. british guy working for an american company. a lot of their customers were taiwanese electronics companies so he was there running the taiwan business. the company had planned for him to be there for at least 3-5 years so they paid for his accommodation and for his family to go out there and for his kids to go to an international school, all that sort of thing. all that costs money and the company aren't likely to pull the rug on him unless something drastic happenssure if you are thinking of peasant level jobs like esl teacher or whatever they are ten a pennymost of the rest of your little rant isn't really what happens in the real world but even if it was, it could happen anywhere>even Dubai is better by comparison in terms of quality of life.it really isn't. i have worked in both places and given the choice of the two i would pick singapore in a heartbeat
