How bad of an idea would it be for an American to attempt to move to England? I'm finishing graduate school soon, and I don't want to look for a job in the US. I've visited England 6 times, but what is it like to actually live here?

My main motivation is the public transport. I absolutely fucking hate driving. It terrifies me. I don't understand why something so dangerous and so expensive is widely accepted as being a necessity for everyday life. It is ruining my life, because my country has no good public transport.

Many other European countries have good public transport, but I only speak English. Would I regret moving here? I love English people, and have several close friends who live there. I would only want to live somewhere that I can actually meet people, so no rural hamlets.

England has been in perpetual economic decline since the 70s.
There's fuckall jobs there, especially outside of London.
Unlike on the Continent "public" transportation in the UK is privatized which means it's utter shite. Just ask the locals.
Place is full of gammons who voted for Brexit and don't like immigrants. You'll get a chilly reception AT BEST.
It's also an Orwellian nightmare. CCTV cameras on every corner and the government monitoring all your electronic communications should be nothing new to you but in addition they also arrest you for watching TV without a telly license.
The inability to buy guns would send you into a spiraling depression.
>>

>moving to England
youre picking the worst time to move here. Unless you have a job offer or have the skills/qualifications for a job that the country is screaming for, you will struggle. Salaries are also far worse than in the US. And then there is the nanny state controls in Britain which completely fuck us over. I hate what has happened in the last 20 years here.
>main motivation is public transport
if you dont mind taking the bus you can get this in most places including the US. If its the novelty of the tube or similar that doesnt give many cities to live in and I wouldnt recommend living in the cities at all.
>I only speak English
good news is most cities in Europe are much better and speak English - Amsterdam immediately pops in my mind, its pretty much the main language. Check what easy visas are available for an American.
>>
>>2908114
>>2908120
I wouldn't move there unless I had a job waiting for me, does that change your answer?
No, busses in the US are absolute trash compared to busses in the U.K.
>>
>>2908111
That's it? The US or England? That's the scope of your imagination? England is a turbo dump. Most people who can leave and are flexible and adaptable by nature, do leave. 9,500 millionaires left the UK in 2024 that's approximately 26 per day. These are the people I'm talking about - the people who can leave, do. And you want to come in? Go live in Asia, like me, where public transport is infinitely better than utter shite we have in the UK.

>utterly miserable weather for 3 months of the year
>poor weather half of the other 9 months
>good standard of living, ok wages
>niggers and pakis in all cities, most towns, and some villages loitering on street corners trying to sell drugs to teenagers and sex-slave children.
>pakis run the schools as sex slave recruitment centres
>police entirely complicit
>if u are sub6 male just being around white women is practically illegal
Brit sub6 male here. I wouldn't raise a family here, but its ok for earning wages to go abroad and try do life. If u are a 6-7/10 u could betabux hard and try maintain a family while guarding your kids from pakis and niggers, if u are an +8/10 u can have a nice life here.
>>
>>2908114
>gets almost everything completely wrong

That being said OP, you will be singled out specifically for being American (being mean to non-whites and other Europeans leads to immediate ostracism if not imprisonment in the UK but Americans are somehow exempt from this). The 'gammons' are the most 'wont do shit' kind of people you'll encounter and you'd have to be in some heavily policed stadium to encounter them. The biggest annoyance would be the chuggers (charity muggers), but hassle is nothing like urban US.

Public transport is poor as trains run on loading gauge, a narrower gauge than European trains and so the trains are thinner and can't be double deckers leading to reduced capacity and a worse experience all around. Bus services are not competitive enough even though Flixbus is starting to penetrate the market.

Really the biggest issur on your end is pay. If you dont work in finance, salary is a joke in UK compared to US
>>
the worst thing about living in england is that it is full of utter miserable cunts like the ones posting here
in the uk, life is what you make it. you can be pretty sure that the dullard mouthbreathers in this thread are never going to make anything of it
>>
If you want to. I willl likely move to the UK from Canada once my degree finishes next spring, at the minimum the UK is better than the shithole dystopia that is Canada. You are not going to find good advice on here because this board is filled with MAGAturds and pajeets.
>>
>>2908176
I doubt they live in England. Probably just copy-pasting from inbred qanon trumptard blogs or russian propaganda sites from their mothers basements in iowa. Trump supporters are so fucking stupid and easy to manipulate. Yes hate your own people, and the country that founded yours because uh no gunZzz and then they will cut half their dick off as tribute to their israeli epstein masters.
>>
>>2908111
Awful. Near American cost of living (or worse for housing) with half the salary. London is like Mississippi pay for Chicago cost of living.
>>
You're welcome to refute any of the points other anons have raised.
The emigration rates for young Britons are telling enough but if you need more evidence you can always take a trip there and speak with the locals to get their opinion on the subject.

>>
>>2908187
>Near American cost of living
lol nope. our salaries appear lower but the cost of living in the uk or anywhere in europe is significantly different.
quick example, in the usa the average cost of car insurance is $2400-$2600 per year. almost certainly more in places where people actually live. i don't currently have a car in the uk but a couple of years ago my insurance was about £300
home insurance in the usa seems utterly bizarre. insurance companies can just cancel people's policies for any reason like having a messy back yard then the home owner has to beg the company to take them back or struggle to find another. and if they live in a high crime area or one of those places where there are tornadoes etc but for some reason people thought they would be a good place to live, they're basically fucked. meanwhile here i can go to a load of different websites and pick and choose from companies clamouring to insure my home.
and let's not get on to the topic of health insurance eh
"average" american salaries seem high but if you have a dozen people on minimum wage and one bloke exploiting them and making loads of money then that's what it will look like
>>
>>2908199
>the average cost of car insurance is $2400-$2600 per year
i should just add that this is for full coverage. of course if you just want a policy that just covers if someone nicks your car or whatever, it will be cheaper, but the corresponding policy will be cheaper elsewhere too

dude Britain has a major annual increase of deaths and illness in the winter. There's something about cold, dark, damp for 3 months that drains the human body worse than other types of winter. For example sub-zero removes the moisture from the air so that respiratory disease doesn't spread as easily.
Thing is most brits are oblivious to it; this curve doesn't exist in the Mediterranean. It's like the high number of heat stroke and car crashes in Thailand, the locals don't notice it and if u point it out to them, they don't care, and if u complained they'd probably label u a miserable cunt mouthbreather.
>>
>>2908201
>There's something about cold, dark, damp for 3 months
Sitting here in fucking Malaysia I would love a bit of British autumn and winter right now. In the UK I live in glorious Hampshire where the season of mists and mellow fruitfulness is the best time of the year. Fucking hell I never thought I would miss fucking Basingstoke
>>
>>2908206
Lol whingers have never experienced weather in the rest of the planet. Ill take the mild always comfy climate of the uk over 100% humidity, 35+ degree heat and a chud sun anyday

Mine was $300, you must get in a lot of accidents

The worst fucking places in Europe you could ever make the mistake of moving to is Ingerland, France and Germany. Have some fucking self respect and just try to learn the language of a less shitty European country. Better than moving to England, which I assume is your only option because you only speak English.
>>
>>2908266

American schools have their own police forces that give kids lifelong criminal records for throwing paper planes in class. You get arrested for crossing the street at the wrong angle, gathering rainwater, not mowing your own front lawn and for not mutilating your children's genitals. Life expectancy in some states is a decade lower than in the UK.
>>
>>2908111
The UK is the ultimate suppository for all the scum of the earth

so what? In japan its also privatized.
But i do agree that subway in london is much noisier than in tokyo (not even people but train wheel noises)
>>
I wouldn't. Unless you got a cynical or morbid outlook on life you will struggle to fit in. Lithuania is really good and everyone speaks perfect English.
>>

>Unless you got a cynical or morbid outlook on life you will struggle to fit in.

LOL okay move to a place where it's chronically dark and bleak and people think smiling is a sign of mental illness
>>
>>2908526
I moved out of that shithole, I'm much happier now
>>
UK is better for public transport than America, but that's not saying much.
The downsides to England though can be a bit harrowing.
>high taxes
>lower median wages than the USA
>mandatory health insurance taken out of your wages, not just something thats part of your tax bill
>absolutely despotic police state even by American standards
>shit weather
>ridiculous rent and COL metrics
and most importantly
>no jobs
Unless you're going to the UK with a professional designation (MD, PEng, red seal trade, etc.) you're better off staying in America or looking at Europe if you don't mind the taxes, have a job lined up and don't want abysmal weather and nanny state policing.
Don't get me wrong, I do like parts of the U.K. especially Scotland but I'd never live there.
>>
>>2908111

It's really bad. The USA is better in every way. Public transport is shit everywhere in the UK outside of London. The housing is ridiculously expensive (relative to tiny UK salaries), low quality, and small. You would find it to be a sick joke.

The "culture" is being a really fucking small minded droog on benefits. The highest aspiration of most of the population is being, or having the personality of, a day time game show host.

It's extremely over-regulated, which means job options are shit and the pay is shit.
>>
>>2908385
This board is all trump supporters or pajeets. Oh yes I want the USA's palantir social credit system where they will imprison you for mocking israel, or flock cameras everywhere. These mouthbreathers will suck off trump until the orange retard collapses their dying country. Literal dumb fucks bitch about whiteness and the number one countries they hate are european nations. Dumb goyim.
>>
>>2908791
Compared to Canada it's cheaper with higher wages. Police state is a meme pushed by tabloids, but have fun with your literal social credit system and customs that check your social media for anti-israel wrongthink. Weather is comfortable year round 0-20C, among the best in the world desu. Only brown people want to live in hot and humid jungle where you sweat your balls off all day. And as for wages, unless you're a big tech worker you're poor in the USA.

>>2908809
USA is better for school shootings. Brick houses are better than stick houses in the USA. And I'm fairly certain your projecting your obese meth addiction republican state culture onto others with drugs here buddy.
>>
>>2908818
UK is widely considered the worst country in the world, literally no one wants to go there except African rape gangs who are paid to live there in luxury hotels
>>
>>2908818
>Weather is comfortable year round 0-20C
Temperatures are good, but it rains all the goddamn time.
Also I never said go to Southern Europe, I find Northern France (Bretagne, Normandie specifically) to be a good possible spot along with Slovenia and Austria. Switzerland would be dope for nature alone but the COL is fucking ridiculously high.
>>
>>2908818
>stick houses
it's cardboard now. literal cardboard.
new build houses have a bad rep everywhere. but jeez, fucking cardboard
>>
>>2908791
>>absolutely despotic police state
lol you have no idea what a police state actually is
here is a simple example. in the uk we have mainstream television programmes that openly criticise our politicians, royal family and senior business leaders with no reprisals. have a look at any episode of mock the week, have i got news for you etc
now have a look at what happens if you criticise the government or royals in actual police states. even here in "moderate" malaysia, openly criticising the royal family is taboo (one of the "three Rs"- race, religion, royalty- that are going to get you into trouble if you speak out about them)
>even by American standards
remember trump threatened to shut the network down after kimmel made a few jokes about him. meanwhile when farage went on hignfy they absolutely ripped into him and he just laughed it off
>>
>>2908998
Yep, the UK throwing 10,000 people per year in prison for Facebook posts criticizing Muslim rape gangs is a good thing and whatever trump said is obviously bad because orange man bad
>>
>>2908996
>new build houses have a bad rep everywhere. but jeez, fucking cardboard

Do you feel smart when you say something this retarded?
>>
>>2908998
> one of the "three Rs"- race, religion, royalty- that are going to get you into trouble if you speak out about them

Of these three, the only “R” you can speak out about safely is royalty. Big deal. Oh, you can get racial if you want to disparage Europeans/native Brits and you can criticize Christianity I guess.
>>
>>2908111
I moved from Indiana to Scotland in 2015. I make less money than I would back home but in every other regard it's far superior. I've visited England and it's much the same.
