Would you guys pay for business class for a seating arrangement like this with these tiny seats?
>>
>>2908382
I'd sleep in the cargo cabin if they gave it for a lower price
>>
Still better than economy.
>>
It’s almost extinct at this point. I think Virgin and Air New Zealand have it on some older planes.
>>
>>2908382
>Would you guys pay for business class
i really don't understand why people pay for business class at all
no matter the seat type

you're paying usually a ludicrous 3-6x compared to an economy seat (even with exit row / bulkhead seats)
only for a slightly better meal and slightly more space (compared to exit row seats)
you're still getting to the same destination as everyone else

lie flat seats for overnight flights are the only redeeming quality
which is why my employer pays for my to fly business (on the rare occasions that I fly)
but privately not even that makes sense
I have 30 vacation days, doing half a spa day to compensate for the less good sleep, costs 1/10th of the ticket price and my wife wants to do this anyway, so nothing is lost

>inb4 muh just be rich
unless you make a million+ per year HHI it's stupid
there's always somewhere better to spend your money even if you just want to spend on comfort
>>
>>2908411
you gotta get yourself into the travel nerd mindset where people spend 70% of their lower-upper-middle-class income to sit in a nicer chair and eat $30 restaurant food for 8 hours
honestly i can relate because it just feels more special when it's on a plane for some reason
>>
>>2908418
>because it just feels more special when it's on a plane for some reason
intercontinental rt like Europe to Asia, business class is usually like 3-4k p.P. vs 800-1200 for economy (add 200 for better seats)
so you're dropping almost 3k€ to feel special for 10h
for that kind of money you can do
>5-10 3* restaurant meals
>or 2-3 nights in some super fancy hotel (Rosewood/MO/Aman/RC/Capella etc.)
>or 20h+ of Spa treatments in some high end spa (of said hotels)
or tons of other things like getting guides, access to exclusive sights and so on

it just feels absolutely insane for me to spend such an amount for such a minuscule thing
and I'm not even poor, our yearly travel budget is ~20-40k€/year (for 2 persons and luckily much less than 70% kek)
>>
>>2908382
BA's reverse seats were my favourite biz layout, takeoff is a little weird but its so much better
>>
>>2908411
> i really don't understand why people pay for business class at all
not many people pay full price for business class seats. most of them are either points fags or travelling on company money. and throw in a couple of staff travellers. the only ones paying full price for these seats are probably boomer fags.

that being said, I've taken 1 long haul first class flight this year, and 5 business class flights. my last business class was start of august SYD to HKG on Qantas A330, the new fit out, lie flat seat.

it was totally worth it. seethe.
>>
>>2908469
yeah i flew etihad AUH to HKG business class on their 787. my seat was facing backwards. i thought it would feel different but you dont really notice it besides take off and landing.

i think etihad's more recent fit out are the same seats, but theyre all facing the front.
>>
>>2908428
>for that kind of money you can do
But I can just do both, it's not an either/or
>>
>>2908478
>most of them are either points fags
you still have to spend a LOT
once calculated it with my countries points scheme, I'd have to spend >50k€/year on consoooming just to get to 2 business class rt
and this includes wasting my time by checking an app constantly for bonus points and shopping and specific locations
and all the big purchases don't even collect points, mortgage / utilities / ETF savings plan are just a bank transfers, car / gym is paid by company
I'm not doubling my consoomer spend just to maybe get a ticket one day (cashback is better value anyway)
>or travelling on company
like I said, being able to sleep (better) is the only redeeming quality
my company pays for it as well when I fly and there it makes sense there

>>2908517
>But I can just do both, it's not an either/or
you can do or you actually do?
because my entire point is that's it's not worth it, even if you could technically afford it
at some point yeah, but that's the top 0.1% of HHI or even less (at least in my country)
>>
here we go again, same fucking copy and paste thread every time business class is mentioned
>but it's just a slightly better seat, the plane is going to the same place
you haven't taken into account the whole experience which is useful for some people. the time on the plane is only part of it
personally i just like the time, space and privacy
>but for the extra cost you could do these other things
it's not a case of one or the other. i can do both

just waiting for the "why not just fly private" guy for the whole /trv/ bingo card
anyway
>>2908382
those still look considerably larger than any economy seats
but i have personally never seen a business class where people would be facing each other like that. usually the window seats would be facing towards the window so you are not in eye contact with anyone else

>not worth it
People have different values and different things are worth it per the individual.
>>
>>2908382
What I value is biz the most is not having to sit next to anyone else and direct aisle access
Would consider if the partition walls were higher, well above head level, and offered at a lower price as some kind of business-lite
>>
>>2908401
>I'd sleep in the cargo cabin if they gave it for a lower price
SLEEP in cargo? Are you implying they would give you enough space to lay down?
No, they would put you in a little box that takes half the space of an economy seat.
>>
>>2908525
>People have different values and different things are worth it per the individual.
there are also people who waste their whole money on gambling
just because someone "values" it, doesn't make it less stupid

if you can genuinely afford everything, then fine
but otherwise, you'd have to have a very crude / odd value system to justify business class seats as having the highest (hedonistic) value over other experience for the same kind of money
>>
>>2908469
>>2908479
I've got a rear facing seat on ANA's The Room next year, don't think I've ever flown backwards before, so should be interesting. The seat width on that thing is berserk; 38 inches. You could fit two people in there easy, that's more than double the economy seat width (17.2 inches)
Plan is to have the Japanese meal, get 6 hours of sleep, then watch movies and hit the Hibiki until landing

why not just say which country?

in Aus, people churn credit cards to rack up points as part of the signing bonus. Signing bonuses are getting shitter and the points are gradually being devalued. oh well...

btw im this nigga >>2908478. i need to correct myself. my fist class flight was end of Dec last year, not this year. And I've flown 5.5 business class flights this year (half point for a single aisle)
>>
>>2908539
>why not just say which country?
because i'm sure, somewhere in the world, there is a good points program
but i'm a kraut
here "payback" exists, and is the main one, if you plan around you can get like ~5 points/miles per euro spend (regular is 1point/2€), but again it's only consumer stuff and groceries
amex was not widely accepted in the past
and cashback cc are more the norm nowadays, i think the best currently has 1% up to 150€ so 15k/month spending

>churn credit cards to rack up points as part of the signing bonus
this isn't even possible here
because the sign up bonus is usually non-existant and you harm your credit score with it (if you have to rent this is extremely shitty, because landlords will look at this)
>>
business (12 hours):
>oh, we are there already? I don't wanna leave this seat
cattle class (10 hours):
>woken up beacuse they serve their soggy dinner 1.5 hours (05:00 AM departure time zone) after take off
>finally catch some sleep again
>wake up
>it's still 4 hours until arrival

t. only done long haul twice
>>2908550
some amerilards on here claim they have/have had like 800 different CCs
>>
>>2908612
I wouldn’t say 800 but I probably had 100+ when the grAAvy train was still going. Thankfully now I can just afford to pay for business.
>>
>>2908612
There's no seat in the universe so comfy that I wouldn't be eager to get out of it after 12 hours of sitting still like a cuck.

Two people, one Texan

Every time we have a business class discussion, poorfags bring up this argument. They always fail to understand that me flying business over economy has no effect on the rest of my trip: the hotels, the foods, etc.
>>
That looks awful. Is that really business class? Looks more like economy comfort.
>>
>>2908724
Yeah, I don't know if you are larping but poors definitely don't understand rich people behavior. And I personally don't understand the jealousy of poors. I walk past the business class and look at them out of curiosity but dgaf. If you want business class go out and earn it
>>
>>2908411

Here's the secret to most things in life that you don't understand: they can afford it.

PEOPLE GET TO LOOK AT MY EXPOSED LEGS
>>
>>2908729
Generally people who cannot afford something lash out at others who can as a coping mechanism. This board over indexes on poor sex tourists do naturally they lash out at business class.
>>
>>2908725

It's a holdover from when business was the mid-tier option. Nowadays a lot of carriers have expanded premium economy and eliminated first class cabins while upgrading business class to the standards of what was first class. So basically that's boomer premium economy seats.

t. boomer

also this thread is larpers because nobody mentions the tax benefits of airline branded CCs. In the US I could get a business 1.5 or 2% cashback card and route expenses through there, but I can't use that cashback against personal expenses. If I route my business's 300-400k of expenses through a CC, that's only 6-8k pretax dollars, aka 4-5k post-tax. Or I could max out status on an airline or two, and get 6-8k worth of upgrades/flights/companion tickets whatever. For anyone who travels for leisure and runs a small business it's stupid not to play the airline game.

>>2908550
The EU capped interchange fees, meaning that issuing banks earn far less on credit card transactions than their American counterparts. American credit card companies offer hundreds of dollars in cashback and travel benefits just for signing up for new cards, because they get to skim 3% or higher on pretty much every transaction. The fees are also card-dependent, meaning that the local convenience store has to fork over even more dough when i swipe my Amex Platinum to buy hot cheetos. It's a fucked up system but you might as well take advantage of it if you can. Credit scores also must work differently here, because your score generally goes up when you have access to more credit.

I hope you guys know a Japan thread died for this

worth it

It’s a shitty low cost airline
>>
I would much rather have shitty leg room for the 10 hour flight and spend the $2000 I saved on better rooms for my trip. For a 2 week trip, that's an extra $142 a night you can spend on a room. That's the difference between a shitty hotel room and a giant luxury 2 bedroom condo with a balcony in Europe.
>>
>>2911614
>>2911661
Eh I could tour Appalachia for a week and a half all costs included for that money
lodging, meals, gas, souvenirs, attraction fees
>>
>>2911668
>giant luxury 2 bedroom condo with a balcony
uhhhh i usually just stay in people's basements or like weird attached dwellings to their houses on airbirb cuz lodging is rapaciously priced in America

unless you have a sizable group and are splitting the lodging costs (which is honestly the best use case scenario for airbnb), a bigger place doesn't make sense

it's always gonna be something small - no matter the "type" of lodging for under 200 a night
>>
>>2911668
Poorfag still doesn't get it. For people who can afford business class, it's not an either-or. Flying business does not take away from anything else for me. It would not change how much I would spend on hotel rooms and such.
>>
>>2911735
>For people who can afford business class, it's not an either-or
that argument is peak retardation on /trv/
completely irrelevant

that would require a travel budget beyond >100k p.a. assuming a couple
being able to afford this would solidly put you into the top ~0,3-0,5% of earning households in Germany or top 1-2% of HHI in the US
and <0,1% in most other countries
and even at this level you would prioritize travel over other things

the probability someone on /trv/ makes this and is not larping is practically 0
the realistic upper bound is some /g/ent with a big tech job, even there, TC is lots of stocks and not only cash

if this wasn't enough evidence
all luxury hotel threads keep dying here
because barely anyone here visits 4S/Aman/MO/Rosewood/RC and alike
which btw all have a MUCH better value proposition
but in threads about slightly better seat on a flying bus, it's suddenly easily affordable, yeah... sure
>>
>>2911739
good grief this is autistic even for this fucking website
you make it sound like travelling in a premium class is some magical unrealistic goal
it's not. it's a couple of thousand £$€ on top of a long haul trip
that is an easily achievable target for anyone who does a reasonably well paid job and has a reasonable amount of financial sense
unfortunately neither of those is very common on this stupid board
>slightly better seat on a flying bus
this phrase gets repeated frequently in every single one of these fucking threads and it just betrays the lack of understanding some people have
pic unrelated
>>
>>2911743
>this is autistic even for this fucking website
never underestimate the tards on here
>>
>>2911669
>Appalachia
here we go again, ffs
>>
>>2911739
I don't know where you got your accounting degree from but you better ask for a refund. Your numbers are complete and utter nonsense. Someone with a comfy job can easily afford to spend 10k on one luxurious vacation trip per year. You are just a poorfag neet so of course you don't understand jack shit about money.
>>
>>2911739
You first said that you can't afford an extra $2k and now are rambling on about how you need to be a millionaire to fly business wtf?
>>
>>2911743
>you make it sound like travelling in a premium class is some magical unrealistic goal
it's not
but your whole fucking retarded argument is that you can afford EVERYTHING else while doing so

2-3x intercontinental travel in business class per year for a couple is like easily 20k€ additionally
a above baseline hotel is >1k/night today much higher in peak season
with 4-6weeks traveling per year you will easily spend 70-80k
special trips / destinations or possible kids not even accounted for
that's literally unattainable for over 95% of the population (in the US, and 98%+ in most euro countries) and even after that you're not doing much besides traveling (like small apartment)
cut out one of business flights or hotels and suddenly
>anyone who does a reasonably well paid job and has a reasonable amount of financial sense
is actually valid

>>2911749
>Someone with a comfy job can easily afford to spend 10k on one luxurious vacation trip per year
yes one week, so?
and my other 5 weeks of vacation I sit at home doing nothing and on weekend I just stare at my wall?
so it's an
>either-or
again

the whole argument of the muh but i can afford it easily people here is that it's not a one time thing you have to save for
because otherwise you'd have to argue against business class being terrible value compared to the alternative possibilities of spending
>>
>>2911750
>can't afford an extra $2k
it's not about the extra 2k (which is rather low for longer routes) one time
it's that to do this multiple times per year AND doing everything your money would otherwise be better spend on (like hotels or experiences) is outside of the budget of realistically everywhere here

>how you need to be a millionaire
yes but that's NW, mostly irrelevant, houses in bigger cities are easily a million
you need a high income first and foremost (which can come from investments, but for most does not)
>>
>>2911751
>your whole fucking retarded argument
eh? my argument? dude this is a travel board not the oxford union debating society. it's not an argument. calm down
>a above baseline hotel is >1k/night today much higher in peak season
don't be ridiculous. where do you think we are travelling to? a reasonable room in a pretty decent 5* hotel in e.g. taipei is about £200 per night, if you book ahead a couple of months (like the grand hyatt, where i used to stay quite frequently back in the day when i travelled a lot)
most of the rest of your post is similarly wide of the mark
>>
>>2911759
>a reasonable room in a pretty decent 5* hotel in e.g. taipei is about £200 per night
in no part of the world do you get a true 5* for 200/night
at this price it's by name only and even then the exception outside of Asia
>grand hyatt
if you didn't overspend on your flight ticket you could've gone to MO (location not great though), W or Capella which are all better

>don't be ridiculous
that's completely standard for the decent top options in most of the world
Europe and the US will be more if you want to go during peak
special option like safari lodges (e.g. Singita, &beyond) are even more

and the fact that you apparently don't know the difference and that prices are this high nowadays speaks for itself
of course you can easily "afford" business class and everything else, if your "else" are mediocre hotels and exclusively going to one of the cheapest cities to travel to in the world
>>
>>2911773
>in no part of the world do you get a true 5* for 200/night
you're just wrong. i don't know what else to tell you. literally just wrong
>at this price it's by name only and even then the exception outside of Asia
well, asia is the place i travel to most frequently now. i live and work in the region
>MO
presumably this means mandarin oriental. as it happens i'm staying at the mandarin oriental in kuala lumpur next month. it was about £140 a night i think
you're a confidently wrong idiot, anon. and bizarrely aggressive too. calm down

>>
>>2908411
If the price is "ludicrous" depends entirely on how much disposable income you possess. To some; even flying slave ship economy class is too expensive and theyre just gonna take a greyhound

Like i dont fuck with first class or suites, i consider that too rich for my blood, if im taking a 12/+h direct international ill splash for business, less pain and soreness for my back and neck when i touch down and i can hit the streets and start having a good time rather than needing a recovery day until im 100%
>>
>>2908382
When I was first working I was doing IT work in Iraq/Afghanistan and making like 250k which was a fuckload before the 2020s inflation fuckfest brought on in no small part by paying 22 year old nerds 250k I'm sure. My first job as a government contractor I was given a NetJets Marquis card with no limit to make trips between the Pentagon and fort huachuca AZ and various other shit holes like Bragg. So when I travelled on my own money I splashed for first class everywhere, full fare cash paid. It was retarded, but it was fun and I could afford it so who cares.

After a 15 year gap I finally make enough without being in Afghanistan to fly business for myself, in addition to work trips about 5 times a year. It seems impossible or ludicrous at first but by some confluence of insane luck and breaking my balls for 2 decades I make about 60k a month so burning some amex points and 10 grand on a business class and 5 star vacation is suddenly not a huge problem anymore.

I don't do it often because it's still a lot, but my wife gets butthurt because I constantly whip around in business/first for work and stay at four seasons and she feels left out even though I'm taking these trips to babysit a bunch of emotional hong kongers and jeets a few times a year so they do the actual work for me.

Asian carriers mog the fuck out of most western carriers, for a while united had the best hard product and Polaris is still great, but EVA shits all over the soft product all day. Random Asian carriers will just leave you alone with a bottle of Grand Dame while American ones barely refill your drink without having to prompt them so much you feel like an alcoholic.

tl;dr people do pay cash for the experience, even your fellow neckbeards on this gay board.
>>
>>2911810
As an addendum, I would pay a premium (like 3000 vs 300 USD) for a tiny business seat that lies flat on any flight over 4 hours, which is kind of how domestic first looks. Business class within Europe isn't worth it at all because those faggot egalitarians give you the exact same seat but maybe priority boarding and an extra drink. Bafflingly stupid.

Picrel is business from London to Frankfurt on Lufthansa iirc. Literally identical seating as coach.

95% of the time this is true just the middle seat blocked off and no extra gain in legroom whatsoever
There are a few routes in Europe that are serviced by wide bodies; HEL - LHR on Finnair operates their A350 for example with that couch-like seat. Aer Lingus does some odd positioning flights with their new A321XLR's transatlantic cabin as does SAS.
It's gone now but BA used to operate an all lie flat business configured A318 Babybus
