Yeah. Hotels are cheaper. The monsoons are often overstated in how bad they are. You'll get some sporadic heavy rain, but if you just plan for that and head into a cafe or something until it's over, you're fine.

Just don't go to any small islands because rough waves can make riding boats impossible and flights are often canceled due to wind and random heavy storms. I went to a tiny island right at the tail end of the rainy season, and the two weeks prior to my arrival had people stranded on the island because no transport was operating in or out of the island. My flight in was also pretty terrifying due to the rough winds and it being a tiny 15 person plane.

Depends on how much you want to visit them. If you'd never even thought about visiting them until now, then just forget about the islands and go. If you'd been planning to visit them, then yeah, it'd be good to delay it or at least look up info on specific islands. Some islands completely cancel boat services during the rainy months. Some aren't affected too much.

Also, there's not one total monsoon season. Malaysia for example has monsoons at different times depending on whether you're on the east or west of the peninsula, then Borneo also has its own thing.
