They are increasingly detached from their traditions; Buddhist temples are everywhere, but their newly renovated appearance belies a complete lack of devotees. People give money but can't spare any time; they're all too entrapped in the wage-debt cycle to concern themselves with spiritual things. Courtesies are pro forma, not genuine. Go back the second or third time, and the initial welcome is absent. You are just another 100 baht note in the till.
