I'm at my wit's end. I've been living abroad for years. I barely ever go back to the US. My current bank account is linked to my dad's cell number, but his dementia is getting worse, and along with the time difference, communication with him is getting progressively difficult. Apparently you can't set up a Tello number if you are outside of the States. I have a google number, but that wouldn't be secure to use for 2FA and banks wouldn't use it anyway. I have no idea what to do. Other services that provide a US number will kick you off of you are outside of the country for x amount of days. Have any Americans found a workaround that doesn't require being in the US to set-up the initial number? I use airalo for my esim data which works great in any country I'm in (although iffy at times in Japan for some reason), but it doesn't provide a US number

Google Fi, the 20/mo plan works perfect. Can take SMS's on my PC tablet/etc as a backup to my phone. The only thing it stops after 6 months is the data so you'll need a data sim, but you're number is always active
>>2911504Talkatone worked a long time for me, but then it started demanding a subscription to receive messages from short codes. It also blocks usage from a non US IP at random. Sometimes it works weeks after arriving overseas, then I open the app and it is logged out. Not possible to log in from a non US IP.Schwab allows foreign numbers to be added and also allows verification through the app.
