next week i will be in Peru and i will stay for 2 months.For now all i have is 2 weeks booked in Lima, i dont like to travel with a fixed itinerary as ive found often that the key to a great trip is flexibility.If you have been to Peru before i would love to hear what you have to say. Recommendations, tips, destinations.My favorite activities when travelling are hiking, eating local food and sampling the local culture (not the tourist trap kind, but real experiences if possible)Thank you in advance for your time!Also if you are in lima the first two weeks of october let me know and maybe we can meet.
Been three times, it's an easy flight from Miami and cheap especially because you don't need A/C in Punta Hermosa. Most of the coast except the far North is a bleak desert. There are a couple river valleys where the bottom third/quarter are irrigated/farmed and therefore green.Surfing in Punta Hermosa mostly sucks. The wind doesn't go offshore much and the people are insanely competitive and complete kooks. They'll hassle for priority like crazy, and if they lose the paddle battle, they'll burn you. They won't do shit though, I took a piss on the solo locales graffiti at La Isla in broad daylight and then paddled out and nobody said a word. If you just want to learn and don't mind mild wetsuit water it could be good. The camps make it brainless and painless.There is a river, I forget if it's called the Cañete or Lunahuana but it's a few hours South of Lima and was fun to raft.I'm sure some people on here have been to Cuzco, Machu Picchu, Lima, Mancora, etc and can expand on it.

I worked with a blonde autist manlet in Wyoming who fell in love with a Peruvian girl working on a J-1 visa. He ended up traveling to Peru to stay with her for a while. Supposedly Peruvian girls like white guys even if they are not tall suave Chads...I'll be flying down there in November on an ultra discount one-way ticket. Looks like a (refundable) return ticket is needed to enter the country...but I intend to depart overland, probably into Bolivia.

>>2911594The tourist part of Lima is really beautiful and well kept and safe. It has all the green coast, kinda like a central park on a cliff by the sea. Its really good for morning or evening walks.
>>2911567Yes>>2911591Chicama requires a big swell and is a little mushburger most of the time, a long ass way from Lima, and Puerto Malabrigo was not as nice as it is now when I went for more than a three day trip back in 2004 and 2006. And in 2004 I went in Jan-Feb so it was likely dead flat, and I could barely afford ticket and $36/day.These days there are pay boats and tow foils etc there. No thanks Punta Rocas in Punta Hermosa has much more size and more power with way lower chance of skunkage.>>2911594If worst is a pure safety question I'd take the tourist areas of Lima over Tegucigalpa, Managua, Guatemala City, Caracas, and quite possibly Bogota, Santo Domingo, and maybe even Quito these days.

The thing is, Peru has other zones that are way more interesting. IMO Lima in comparison is a complete let down.

You could use 1 to 3d to Ica. 1d Barranca. 1d somewhere to hike in the mountains. You have a week there.I'd honestly try to book some time in Cusco. Check the website if you want to go to Machu Picchu. You no longer can buy tickets in town, and if you could, it's gambling you're not getting scammed.
