Dallas is full of migrants, and migrants tend to be more dissatisfied than people who have lived in one place all their lives. Lack of social connections thanks to their frequent moving, plus grass is always greener mentality. Thus the irony that the most desirable cities are also full of unhappy alienated strooglers wishing they were somewhere more fulfilling, while the least desirable places are mostly populated by placid content people who never travel overseas, have 100 friends around town and show friendliness toward friendly strangers passing through. (Of course there are many individual exceptions, but this is the general rule.)

it's a birds of a feather situation instead of saying one is better than another. if you're a cosmopolitan who travels the world it's easier to get along with other people in your boat. in my travels i've meant quaint people who have never left their hometowns. It's easy to romanticize them on a surface level but ultimately their lack of interest in anything besides what's directly in front of them betrays them as petty and small minded. The smalltown mindset is constant intrusive thoughts about gossip

If I had to choose one I would choose other travelers if it came down to it, because that's what I am, but there's pros and cons to both and it's impossible to be both at the same time so just roll with what you got.

This is just every major Texas city in general, but especially Austin. Many people from California moved to this state in the 2010's, then once many of their employers enforced RTO mandates a lot of them went back because they didn't like Texas's climate and laws. But a lot ended up staying here and changed the vibe, resulting in these major cities where the majority of residents are constantly daydreaming out loud on social media about leaving Texas. But then I ask them where they want to go and they never give me a straight answer, hence this thread.
