After I finish my conscription I plan on going around Europe and possible Asia. Idea being not to really use planes as those are expensive. I'm thinking of using a sleeping bag to save money and try to live frugally. I think I'll get a good handle on surviving outdoors as I'm aiming for Recon and I'll get SERE training there.Anything I should consider before I leave? Any tips? I got 25k in savings and I'll be 21 when I leave for this trip.
>>2917249What the fuck is the point of traveling if you're just gonna live like a hermit in the woods? You can do this at home
>>2917250I want to visit a lot of countries, I want to visit the museums, castles and historical sites. I want to see the beautiful towns and mountains around the world. I want to have an adventure
>>2917249planes are often the cheapest way, they are cheaper than trains because you only have to build infrastructure at two points. the only reason buses are cheaper than planes is because the taxpayers subsidize the cost of the roadswhat's your budget for living frugally? you dont need a sleeping bag. if you slow travel the savings are much more substantial than if you try to do gimmicky budget hacks
>>2917254Bout 25k, I'd really like to spend as little as possible of that though. I'd like to visit almost every European country, and then hop on over to Asia and go around there.
>>2917258i meant per month. if you are slow traveling and living frugally that 25k would last you about 4 years
>>2917259Not sure what my budget should be per month, I suppose I'll just have to see how much it costs when I start it.
>>2917250Every campsite is different just like every hotel is different. Hermits don't travel, they stay in one place and avoid human contact. >>2917251This should be starting in April, not late October. Winter is much less adventurous because everybody is indoors. One of the biggest hassles is what to do with your luggage when you don't have a place to stay. It gets super annoying having to carry it all over a city, and if you stash it somewhere in the bushes it might get stolen.

I just spend 6 weeks camping for free across Sweden. Last year I did interrail and saw lots of countries.I know it seems like going slow is efficient and frugal but that’s only true if your goal is to go slow. €20 flights are common and €30 dorm beds are better than a park bench. You can still be the hardcore guy who is OK sleeping on a bench and taking an 8 hour bus every so often, but don’t imagine that this sort of thing is virtuous. The virtue is being OK with what you have, not stoking your ego about it.
