Alaska... based or a hellhole?
>>2918244Depends,Do you have a job lined up? Is the pay decent(above 60k or 45k with 0 debt) Are you okay with incredibly short days/no sun? Are you okay with being inside +4 months with nothing to do? Are your hobbies and interests doable inside? If yes to all of those it's good.As someone who live(d) in artic environments and similar economy like Alaska, it's not for everyone. People will get lead in with "well muh wildest catch +100k/yr" jobs when they have a snowballs chance in hell of lasting or even getting hired. Most people crash out into alcoholism+going insane due to their schedule being thrown out+inability to mix with locals. I see it all the time with oil workers who do one season and burn the fuck out being mentally wrecked. What are you planning to do in alaska? inb4 "well heard high paying jobs" you can just move to ND be an oil worker seasonal or CDL and make a killing. At least in that hellhole you can fly down to somewhere warm that isn't 7hr flight.
>>2918244no holes. verdict: hellhole
>>2918244Retired USCG, did about 12 years up there between various units, somehow ended up in Florida for the last 8 but anywayIt's a hard life bro, but for many that is the appeal. Spits a lot of people out because people romanticize it. So those who manage to stay especially across generations are proud of being able to rough it. But a lot of people also want to leave. >>2918246Everything he says is true.
Also to add,Groceries are expensive even if you think you have a 'hack' to eat cheap you're paying out the ass relative to what you'll make. Eating out is more common because you just want to avoid cabin fever.A car(you will want this lmao) is going to break down the used market is a tossup of "was this a DUI car" or "is it rusted out" and fixing it up is lolApartments will almost always want proof of a job to house you, COVID pushed a lot of remote bro's up it AK and rent has increased accordinglyApartment rent is insane enjoy paying like 900 for a studio and hear fights of tweakers/drunksPeople will be rough, I mean gatekeepy as hell. If you come in with the "well I saw you could make a lot of money doing...." you will forever be labeled a retard unless you have some job lined up in something like IT/Healthcare that often has upward mobility.unlike what >>2918248 says cheating is hugeThe sun schedule WILL fuck with you, it fucks with everyone at first unless you're native.Any "cheap hacks" for living in Anchorage assume is out of date or a complete scam. Yes you're going to be living in Anchorage because unless you have a job relocating you to Fairbanks you're only hope for starting a new life is Anchorage.DO NOT attempt to think you can drive up there when "it gets warm"Despite being up north the coast is moderate in snow, yes a lot falls but nothing like the great lakes the warmer bay kinda fucks with the tempature.Your "long summers" aren't all that great lmao bugs are a nightmareBiggest hurdle is actually having a job lined up or remote job that you can relocate up easily with and then search for something. I really, really, hope you don't mind investing every weekend and some weekdays at the bar sharing a beer or two so you can break into some social circles otherwise G fucking G. Try somewhere else.
>>2918246>>2918251>>2918254I thought this was a travel board, not a living board
I want to work at a lodge near Healy. Because it's right on the main highway, you can take the shuttle from Fairbanks. No car necessary. Private rooms in a trailer and food plan are offered to employees for $500/month. The people you will be around at such a job are not Alaskan grumps, they are migrant laborers from all over the world. Very different atmosphere from living in town.
If you like nature, Alaska is incredibly based. Truly unspoiled and untamed landscapes that range from beautiful to surreal. The window to visit is between May-Sept. It can obviously be on the expensive side. Idk what you are looking to do but it's greatest feature is the outdoors and theres not much else to do besides that. Dream destination for nature fans
>>2918501>they are migrant laborers from all over the world.where are they from actually? it will just be a bunch of beaner and seamonkey browncels probably
>>2918501>I want to work at a lodge near Healy. Because it's right on the main highwayThat sounds horrible are you a SEA monkey or some other turdworlder?
Man I buttfucked a tranny in Anchorage a few years back.. fucked up little native t-girl. Banged that bussy for hours between huffs of coke bottle meth.. stunk up the igloo real bad. Smelled like an outhouse. Crusty Eskimo poop on my dick for days after. Was scraping flakes of it out of my pubes for damn near a week.
>>2918545No but I'd much rather be around Thirdies than fat depressed amerimutts on anti-psychotic meds
>>2918929Eskimo ladyboys :3>>2918943the thirdies are fat psychos too
>>2918945>the thirdies are fat psychos toono they aren't your average third worlder is smarter than your college grad these days. watch this guy called Hasan Piker he basically playes what america is like. Even Philippines better and smarter
If you're a rugged /out/ type who would rather fish and hunt than do literally anything else you'd probably enjoy it. If you ever want to date/start a family and/or if you're not ultra outdoorsy you'll hate it Everyone is an alcoholic or on drugs. Everyone. It's the most beautiful place in the world a few months out of the year and a depressing dark hellhole the rest of the year. Even in the gorgeous summer the mosquitos are so bad it sucks if you're a person mosquitos are attracted to
