How the fuck do you manage flight anxiety? I have a flight in a few days, a two hour flight to Milan. I've flown a bunch of times before, but I haven't in a few years and I was always with others so I wasn't as worried. This will be my first time flying alone for a solo trip and I'm nervous as hell, both for the flight and for the Milan stay. Any tips for both?

practice makes perfect anon
the best way to free yourself of the anxiety is just to keep doing it until it feels routine
then you can be as jaded and miserable as everyone else on here

>This will be my first time flying alone
Wow you have the whole plane to yourself? You're flying the plane?
>>
>>2918346
It is a little scary for a 12 year old to navigate an airport alone tbf

I have flight anxiety to a degree. And when I can avoid a plane I'll gladly will do, even if it costs more or takes more time. But it also worth realizing that planes don't just crash. If an engine fails mid flight they would continue gliding. They have redundancy build in for their systems.

If you as paranoid as me. Make sure you are flying with airlines that have laws made by competent people. If an airline operates in EU it can't be totally shit. It's a rich and well ordered part of the world. Also don't fly planes that haven't been tested for some time. The Boeing max planes had a software bug which caused 2 crashes. To the point the planes were not allowed to fly till the issues were addressed. I think by now they must be safe. I'll be flying one soon so we'll see.

i usually go to confession before i fly so im not as afraid to die in a plane crash. other than that pack dramamine and get an aisle seat. usually by my third or 4th flight/connection of the trip i cant even feel the movement of the plane because my brain already adjusted
>>

>dramamine
Whats this do to you? does it turn you into modest mouse?

>>2918339
Just hype yourself up about all the cool shit ur going to do, bring a book or videogames if it helps take your mind off shit. Realize that statistically ur very unlikely to crash.
The only time you should be scared of turbulance is if the hot stewardess chicks look terrified

Just pick a flight using a 777 as your aircraft. There have been a grand total of three passenger deaths due to 777 accidents in the last 30 years.

And those three died because the Korean pilots decided to stop bothering to fly the plane during landing because they were almost done and nothing could go wrong at that point, at which point they let the plane get too low and hit a seawall just beyond the end of the runway.

Yes, really. ALL of the other passenger deaths were from (1) the Russian shootdown of MH17, and (2) the pilot suicide of MH370. There was also one ground worker killed when a 777 hit him, and one passenger who had a heart attack when a 777 hit heavy turbulence. That's it.

>i usually go to confession before i fly so im not as afraid to die
What if a stewardess is really hot and you lust after her during the flight? What then, huh, smart guy?
>>
>>2918354
>The Boeing max planes had a software bug
No, the software operated exactly as designed. It was a design error, and one that was abysmally stupid to have been made that way. And hilariously, the fix was exactly what I said they would have to do within the first five minutes of reading why the crashes had happened. It really was that boneheadedly stupidly simple.

Dramamine is typically an anti-seasickness medication and also an anti-histamine (anti allergy). It'll make you drowsy and seems to quell motion sickness.

Flight anxiety as in you’re scared of being in the air, or you’re stressed about getting through the security and stuff at the airport? If it’s the former I don’t think there’s much you can do. I know people who had to fly around for work for decades and never really got over it. I guess the best you can do is to distract yourself. Get a tablet or something and watch a movie on board, put on some headphones, just don’t take a window sit.

>(1) the Russian shootdown of MH17, and (2) the pilot suicide of MH370
Damn, sounds like the 777 is cursed
>>
Just try not to be retarded. If you’ve been in a car once you had higher odds of dying in it than you will flying your entire life.
>>
>>2918711
id rather die in a car crash then crash into the earth at 500mph after falling 10,000 feet within seconds surrounded by screaming people
>>
>>2918737
dude, that is literally never going to happen to you. not in 2, 3, 4+ lifetimes
>>
>>2918739
you dont know that
>>
>>2918739
im pretty sure everyone who died in a plane crash ever thought the same thing
>>
>>2918743
yeah so did everyone who died from getting struck by a meteorite and thats not going to happen to you either
>>
>>2918737
>>2918743
have you ever been on a plane before?
>>
>>2918751
i fly multiple times a year
>>
>>2918805
>>2918751
i've also flown/taken flying lessons and know a lot of private pilots
>>
>>2918805
>>2918806
would you invite people to fly multiple times too? despite what you said >>2918737 here?

>>2918806
how's it like behind the cockpit? how are pilots like? i know pilots that actually fly have to be the most qualified and professional to get to fly right?
>>
>>2918743
Who cares what they think? They’re dead now.

OP, just stop being a little bitch. Your plane is not going to crash. If it does you’ll be too dead to care anyways and your family will get a lot of money. Being alone in a new country is a lot scarier, but many people have done it before, myself included, and once you start moving you’ll realize it’s not bad at all.
>>
Reminder: no modern plane has been downed by turbulance.
Also half what people think is feeling the plane drop slightly is simply the plane levelling off on normal flights.

My tips:
Pint before the flight
Keep yourself distracted if possible. Looking out the window can weirdly make things easier I find, even as someone scared of heights.
Moving/squirming in your seat masks a bunch of sensations including some turbulance. You'll look a bit silly but you'll notice it a lot less (handy for the 5-10 seconds you go through clouds)
Never hold your breath, a slow exhale on a bumpy bit reduces any sensations from movement.
travel sickness pills can also reduce sensations, not just nausea
>>
>>2918421
Nah, go for an A380. Those things could fly through a tornado and you wouldn't feel anything. Smoothest takeoff I've ever experienced.

It's a shame carrier's behaviour changed and these became less popular (although covid ironically saved the model as carriers realised they can't rely purely on the hub model)
>>
>>2918864
buddy im not op
>>
>>2918339
I'm not a superstitious person but when it comes to flying I have my routines/habits that I always do. Where I sit, when I buckle up, when I start a movie, little things like that. Feels comforting to do the exact same routine every time, like I'll get the same safe flight every time if I do the same routine every time.

Also, drink some beer beforehand, and distract yourself with funny movies during.

>just get on this death trap where it has 10 million parts that all have to work properly just to make sure you can get from one place to another
So glad Europe has trains and history making the entire continent a paradise to live in. Only americans have to risk there lifes for holiday that they only have 2 weeks off for every 10 years.
>>
>>2918981
Planes are statistically safer than trains. You’re just autistic and irrationally afraid of planes because you don’t understand how they work.

>>2918887
I never said you were. I was replying to you and then after that, addressing OP.
>>
>>2918981
have you never gotten on a plane before?
>>
>>2918711
>swerve out of the way
>continue on
That's what car danger is like. You are empowered to respond to it, unlike a plane where you have no volition whatsoever.
>>
>>2918400
>Whats this do to you? does it turn you into modest mouse?
No, that's Ohio.
>>
>>2918999
Have you never been in a car where someone else is driving? You have no control over that too
>>
>>2918981
Meanwhile Spain just had two trains collide and kill 70 people
