Kind of surprised that someone who only watched the anime thinks that Gujo has moved on yet- just look how she was moping over Ibuki in the museum. If you read ahead in the manga you can look back to the chapters covered by the anime and see where she gave up but on the first pass that was not clear by chapter 36 or 37 where the anime stopped. Also Chin-lan is even more aggressive than Botan is. It is not out of line to say Chin-lan came to Japan to get a wife like her sister did, school is just an excuse to get a visa and her parents to pay for it. That's how aggressive she is.

In the most recent chapters they're getting ready for new undergraduates to move in, and Akane wants to drop out before first semester fees are paid, so at that point it's been one year since the manga started. Chin-Lan presumably joined at the start of the second semester, so by the end of the anime she's been there for around 3 months, since the anime ends at the end of December.I think 3 months is enough time to start to move on from a crush, especially when you're being actively pursued by someone as forward as Chin-Lan. Plus she's been aware for longer than that that Botan is getting ahead of her in the race for Ibuki. The real finishing blow to her crush on Ibuki is chapter 25 when Ibuki, Chin-Lan, and Kanade all drink together, which I'm guessing is around early November, so she's had at least a month and a half to recover from that before she starts to respond to Chin-Lan's feelings.

If I hadn't watched it on recommendation and been told that it's really good, I suspect that I would ave felt ripped off and unsatsified by the end, and not thought much of it at all. For a bunch of episodes in the middle, I wasn't sure whether Inuki and Botan were actually a proper couple that had gone all the way or not, or whether they were just good friends with a lot of subtext. At one point Ibuki imagines Botan naked while talking to someone else, Was she remembering or fantasizing?Idk it just spent a lot of time lingering on uncertainties. The whole thing was a tension-filled "will they or won't they / have they or haven't they" from start to finish, and I felt extra confused because I felt like I was missing references to stuff. It was supposed to be comfy, I think, but idk I had a hard time watching it. Doesn't help that there was no climax of any kind, just "oh everything happened offscreen, the end, bye!"

Oh hey, I'm surprised to see this is still getting posts. I got behind on the season so I'm playing catch up and today was the last â5 episodes of this. I really enjoyed it overall. It's refreshing to watch something that doesn't spoon feed tropes and lets the mood speak for itself and is comfortable letting ambiguity and uncertainty dwell. It's unusual to find something that feels like it was made for people who have actually been in a relationship and can understand the characters' feelings without having them explicitly spelled out in internal monologues. I thought Gujou was particularly well portrayed, especially after years of seeing works where unrequited love is a noisy, melodramatic plot point. I wish I could find more of this kind of thing.
