I know there are cases beyond Christian schools; we have the Uzuzan girls in Saki, with two of them having real knowledge of the Christian religion (despite having powers from a Shinto deity and another with Jewish powers, seriously). There's also Buki in Fresh Precure. I know there are more cases, but I can't remember exactly.

My hunt for a satisfying yuri anime continues.

Started Kannazuki no Miko. Watched the first episode and felt completely lost, had to look up whether I was accidentally watching season 2 or not.
>>
>>4586839
Why would EP1 confuse you
Are you serious
>>
>>4586843
Idk it felt like it was trying to squeeze an entire season into a single episode. Like at first the protag girl is admiring the senpai girl from afar and watching her play tennis with the guy, then surprise she actually knows both of them already. Then the curse thing happens, and the guy is an orochi now? Who's the evil woman with the glasses? What's the kaiju thing? I don't understand enough about Japanese folklore to understand what I'm looking at, but I think I'm supposed to know what the giant thing with a ring of extend-o-bells is supposed to be and why it's acting like a Gojira copycat.

The optimal way to watch KnM is to skip all the stuff with confusing Japanese folklore monsters and the dude mecha fighting and whatnot, and skip right to the parts where Chikane is being an alpha lesbian and grabbing Himeko by the pussy.

Also, very important: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DC_fzm35Jik

P.S.: You should watch Simoun. It's my favorite.

It's alright, just take it slow. Sometimes it's fine to watch based on the vibes you like in the show and learn what's actually happening later. I didn't know there were such rabid KnM fags here but it's not really a big deal if you don't get it because KnM is not a good show and is only famous because of the infamous yuri rape scene.

KnM is a great show and actually focuses on the yuri.
>>
>>4586892
It has flaws but being "hard to follow" is not one of them. It's a pretty simple show. I actually really like Chikane and Himeko as a couple and like how the show explored that a guy can be a perfect white knight and he's still not owed a girl (Himeko in this case)'s love. Himeko is still allowed to like Chikane instead of Souma and that's OK. She's not a trophy for the male hero. It's definitely messy how it goes about it, but I still like it and think it has more to it beyond the rape

If it came out today, the ending would give it a legion of rabid followers for actually being maintext and sticking to the couple. Like WfM had no confessions and shit and watching an original anime not be subtext for once was enough to give it lots of fans. KnM actually has confessions and explicit yuri romance melodrama. In a sea of subtext originals? The ending would gain it fans, even if week to week discussion would be a mess

Had this recommended to me recently and was completely blown away. The character drama, setting and larger themes are all top notch and all came together in a meaningful way. The way Neviril and Aaeru's feelings develop over the course of that show is the best I've ever seen do it. Maybe I haven't looked around enough but I don't know why people don't talk about it more. I'm convinced it's the best ostensibly yuri anime I'm ever going to see
>>
>>4587215
Because it's 20 years old. And 2000s sadly isn't nostalgia time. Nostalgiafags are 80s and 90s fags (maybe also 70s if they're /m/fags), so it will never be brought up in nostalgia discussions because it isn't a 90s anime aired on Toonami like Gundam Wing, G Gundam or Cowboy Bebop. And most people have already said their piece about the show. That's the thing with old shows: They will never get as much discussion as the newer stuff. Doesn't help a large, large majority of new anime fans refuse to watch anything older than 2020 as they see it as "too old". People willing to look into the past rather than constantly consume seasonal slop are a minority
And yuri is a niche. So even most of the nostalgia minority will go to non-yuri shows (like old Gundams or the afore mentioned Cowboy Bebop, or Legend of Galactic Heroes) before checking some yuri from 20 years ago. Yuri nostalgiafags have already said their piece about it so no need to keep talking about it

Het secondaries because of the gbshit. Maybe some of them do have yuri relationships but I don't remember. Blame the retard who added the gbshit element to Simoun and turned yuri relationships into straight
But because of that element >>4587247 is explicitly shitting on yuri couple and saying the straight couples and males are better. This is not acceptable "criticism" in a yuri board. Fuck off to /a/. To be fair "girls getting together bad, it always kills series" is a bad thing to say in a yuri board. Yuri is a romance genre. People actually want the girls to get together. If you just want ship tease with no dating, there's tons of subtext anime that are just that. When people read actual yuri, they want to see actual romance, so being told seeing couples that got together is bad and always kills series and everything should be limited to the "flirting" stage with the girls getting together reserved for the end isn't appreciated
People here complained about the Fighting Games manga precisely because it spends too much time without the girls getting together, so it doesn't feel romantic enough

Just finished Kannazuki no Miko and OH MY GOD I LOVED IT. I did feel a bit of whiplash at first because it was an older anime, just from a different time I suppose. Once I adjusted to that though, ooh. There was something really nostalgic about it, the op&ed music was great too.

I really loved how it handled the romance. Plenty of cute bonding moments where they were just hanging out and enjoying one another's company, strong yearning during time spent apart, tension, etc. My favourite part was the intimacy though. I felt like it was just really wholesome and earnest in how it portrayed the more tender moments. Lots of closeness, cuddling, crying in each others' arms. It didn't shy away from physical contact like a lot of other anime seem to, to me it really helps make the romance feel believable.

Idk maybe I just have a complex with Japanese media and how it oftens gets anemic about physical contact and affection. It's so refreshing to see two girls actually be close and not maintain social distance at all times. I'm super satisfied!
but now I want more...

You know, thinking about it...

I've been thinking about love languages after seeing this one youtube video about it. Mine is almost definitely physical touch, seeing as how I crave it so strongly, even in the anime I watch.

So because Ribbon Knight releases soon I looked it up a little (without trying to spoil the plot). Apparently its a reimagining of Princess Knight? Basically the OG Magical Girl progenitor from the 1950s.
Was there any yuri relevant stuff in Princess Knight? Considering its from the 50s I doubt it. But having female protags or magical girls is just as unusual for that era, so maybe yuri subtext isnt too out there?

>>4587426
Sort of, but not really. It's been a while since I had to read it but iirc it's one of the main origin points of the prince girl archetype, you get girls swooning over "male" guise Sapphire, and I think in one version there is a girl that pursues her for a bit before she learns that Sapphire is a girl (after which that immediately gets dropped because said girl wants a boy), and needless to say all versions end in het.
That said this doesn't mean that Ribbon Knight can't change things up, so just wait and see I guess

That isnt expected at all actually. This is the kind of story that could totally work without any romance at all, so it's rather weird to push a het angle, especially for protag.
Ribbon Knight is a reimagining anyway. Cosmic Princess Kaguya was also based on a het fairy tale, maybe the most culturally relevant Japanese folktale of all time. Compared to turning that yuri, giving a magical girl show a small push cant be that hard.
>>
>>4587554
It's not about the kind of story, it's about when and how it was written. Sapphire marrying Franz wasn't necessary for the story, sure, but it was always going to happen in the original.
Ribbon Hero deciding to not go that route is possible of course, that was never in question.
>>
>>4587554
Yeah, but Kaguya and Lara all had a clear focus on a coprotag dynamic, with Ribbon Knight it seems more of an ensemble cast with Ribbon as the solo mc. Sure, there might be surprise yuri, but I don't think it'll be super huge or a focus.

To those going on about Netlfix bad... Ribbon Knight, much like Kaguya is an anime original financed by Netflix. They have literally zero creatice control. This has been going on with a lot of anime productions that are "Netlfix original". It's fine shitting on Netflix in general but some of the great anime of recent years only exisr because Netlfix throws money at real passionate creatives.

>>4587558

I finished Ribbon Hero. I dont know how to take screenshots on Netflix, so I used my shitty phone camera, sorry.

So overall I thought the movie was quite good. Very fast paced with good animation and voice acting. It is very simplistic because of the source material being from an era where manga story telling was still like this.
Also, this felt like a season 1 of an on-going anime. The conflict is resolved by the end, but it feels like it could continie right after.

Anyway to make it short, zero het. As for yuri Pine is undeniably head over heels for Sapphire. Pic related. But Sapphire seems to see her more as a friend? It's kept a bit vague, as expected. This is no Cosmic Princess Kaguya. Still while Sapphire leaves to pay her respects to the destroyed Silver Kingdom, Pine said she would visit her there. So they wont be separated for long.
A sequel would certainly be nice to explore some stuff more.

Also I think the finale tried to tastefully explain why this story is different from the orignal Princess Knight. The literal soul of the original Sapphire was attached to this version the entire movie and helped her out, but in the end she passed on to her own world. Sapphire directly says "You are who I could have been in a different world". So that means this story is completely freed of the shackles of any prior narrative.
>>
>>4587537
>the Aya
The crow reporter?
>>
>>4587576
>zero het
>But Sapphire seems to see her more as a friend
So, is the protagonist not on particularly good terms with any of the male characters? Or even has an especially strong rivalry with?
Cause subtext usually only works if there's either no males at all, or at least none that is important to either of the girls whose friendship you're trying to see as romantic, otherwise the illusion quickly falls apart.
>>
>>4587590
I wouldnt call it an illusion. Without a doubt Pine is the closest person to Sapphire outside of her granny Zirco. And their bond is super strong.

Her relationship with the male characters.... I'd say work colleagues about hits the nail on the head. There are only two male supports that she really interacts with and only one has actual screentime. Velvet, the most femboy femboy that has ever femboyed is sort of a major player and is heavily involved with Sapphire for plot reasons. But his focus is entirely on other characters and Sapphire really only talks to him about plot stuff. But in the final battle it's Pine and Velvet who come to support Sapphire, so that might be enough for some het shippers? But compared to Pine being Sapphire's best friend for most of the movie and her genuinely wanting to be around her.... and like I said Pine actually sort of confessed her romantic feelings. So there is really no comparison.
I dont see any het shipping potential for this beyond random crackships. I fact, another important female character, Hecate, starts off as kind of a rival, but becomes super attached to Sapphire and I genuinely think that is more subtexty than any of the guys and she is a tertiary character at best.

Basically Sapphire is just too much of a plot girl to focus on romance, but only Pine is even an option at all.
>>
>>4587590
Nanoha proves this is wrong, though
Yuno is an important friend and mentor to Nanoha but clearly Fate is who she loves and has stronger feelings for. Same for Symphogear. Given Majimafag, age is clealry not an obstacle to hetshitters and yet no one has any problem seeing Symphogear as yuri subtext despite Genjuro and Ogawa being important to the girls

Otherwise found this image apparently from the ending (I can't watch the movie myself yet, need to make some time). Is it not a kiss as the person was claiming in their post?
>>
>>4587597
Not a kiss, just a hug. The still frame is deceiving. It was really cute though how Pine kept hugging Sapphire during the entire conversation afterwards where Sapphire talked to the other characters. During the whole scene the camera is panned up to Sapphire talking, but I couldnt stop chuckling knowing Pine was just out of frame giving her a bear hug lol

>Kiss

>>
>>4587591
>I wouldnt call it an illusion
I meant it as a positive connotation, otherwise I would've used "delusion"; as much as I like yuri subtext as the next best thing after maintext, it's also a fragile construct.
>>4587595
>Yuno is an important friend and mentor to Nanoha but clearly Fate is who she loves and has stronger feelings for.
I'd argue that Nanoha went way beyond what anon said about Ribbon Hero, where the subtext seems to be pretty much one-sided, and while there's a female character who has strong feelings for the protagonist, there's apparently also a male character who cares enough about her to come to her rescue in battle, so unlike Yuno he could be a plausible subtext rival a far as I know, haven't watched it though.
>Genjuro and Ogawa being important to the girls
Same deal, there's a matter of perspective of course, who would be the plausible pairs for those two, Hibiki and Tsubasa?
They have very/pretty strong reciprocated subtext with other characters, so it's hard to see the mentors who are barely ever there as rivaling that, but Sapphire appears to be just on the receiving end, so anyone on the giving side would be evenly matched.
>>4587597
In before the Akanesasu fans insist this is undeniably a kiss and the anime is totally maintext yuri or something.
>>
Whole lotta words to say it isn't yuri.
>>
>>4587601
>who cares enough to come to her rescue
You are trying very hard to actively misconstrue my words. Why do you not believe me when I say that there is no such chemistry or intention even implied in the movie?
In that part of the movie Sapphire is literally fighting the demon thar is trying to kill the whole city. Velvet helps her out of self-interest because if she fails everyone he cares about dies...[/spoilers] I only found it noteworthy because he and Pine are the only ones who make it to that particular space. Pine isnt even a fighter yet she is there fighting with her projected spirit anyway, that is how much she wants to support Sapphire.

I necer said there is no reciprocation from Sapphire, her bond with Pine is entirely unique, but to me personally it's still friendship territory from her side. That's all. It's an open ending after all, with more hints towards the two sticking together.
>>
>>4587604
Seems to be more of an action flick with some ship tease but more focus on plot and action than any actual romance. CPK this is not, clearly
In a way, it does follow from your typical action show where the MC seems to have no romantic feelings and is more centered on plot, like every shounen for example. Kimetsu's a good example. It does the timeskip pairings shit but it sets up literally none of them. Remove that part from the ending and the manga'd be totally unromantic
>>
>>4587605
>You are trying very hard to actively misconstrue
I was just going off your words anon, I made it very clear in my post that I was making assumption, it might've sounded off to you because you have the full picture while I don't.
Thanks for all the info though, I'll probably wait to hear a few more impressions before deciding if I should take the plunge.

It has girls within spitting distance, so it's yuri. Sorry, I don't make the rules.

on the official youtube channel they made both a Sapphire x Pine trailer and a Sapphire x Velvet trailer, i think they're taking the multi-shipping route:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PtcOzVVAm_0
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0PI_5W3Iub4
also literally 'draw a girl call it a boy', except with a manly voice rather than the usual halfway measure, it's really jarring to watch, wtf
>>
>>4587617
Such a waste of a good design
>>
>>4587617
Or maybe both characters are relevant to the story so they have trailers that focus on different parts....? Only you assume its about fucking shipping.

Mind you, Velvet is exclusively relevant to the plot, while Pine's whole deal is that she carss about Sapphire and all her relevance to the story is specifically about the relationship they sre developing.

These arent even similar. One is business, the other is, at a minimum the emotional anchor, but more obviously a love interest.
>>
>>4587617
>i think they're taking the multi-shipping route
Definitely, for a magazine cover picture they chose to have MC sprawled on the guy's lap of all things.

>>
>>4587624
There is so much fabric I cant even tell where Velvet starts or ends. Also he is too small for that to be his lap. Like he is legit shorter than Sapphire.

Anyway, this is completely irrelevant to what actually happens in the movie.

>>
>>4587632
I'm not even saying it's het. Just apparently trying (how successful it is on execution is another matter) to omnipander and in general apparently being more focused on plot and action than any romance. A battle shounen movie with a female lead, basically. Again Tanjiro from Kimetsu doesn't even feel like a friend to the girl he gets with in the timeskip. Or Deku and Ochaco in HeroAca. Never feels like Deku has much feelings or is more than a friend to her. Despite Horikoshi in the extra chapters trying to get them together to satisfy shippers. In JJK, I don't recall any romance ¡
I seem to recall (maybe I'm mistaken) some people here saying they wanted a "yuri" or girl lead version of the typical batle Shounen jump shit. Well, here it is. Turns out action focused plots that treat romance as a checkmark, aren't an ideal combination for a romance genre like yuri

I've watched the English Dub with Subtitles and Pine didn't even say anything remotely close to that.
>>
>>4587642
Why would anyone watch the English dub of a Japanese movie? And why are you taking the dub more seriously than the original? Cosmic Princess Kaguya wae the same way, the dub got a bunch of things wrong (though it at least kept the yuri intact).
I can assure you this is exactly what she says in Japanese. Change the vocal teack and check yourself I guess?

Okay, my next anime is "There's no freaking way I'll be your lover!".

Man this is GREAT! Why the hell didn't anyone recommend this to me? It's super cute, comfy, slice of lifey with no big stakes or world-ending plots, lots of touching and kissing, long conversations and character development, ooh.

I'm starting to think that half of you purposefully recommended BAD yuri just to troll me and throw me off course.
>>
>>4587688
>character development
In my Watanare? Maybe in season three
>>
>>4587688
Actually, your request was somewhat restrictive in terms of what could be recommended; it didn't leave much room for maneuver. It's not that many yuri series receive adaptations; several are series with yuri, but not romance as the focus, but it is an element of varying importance. There's a reason why Hina Logi is so well remembered, or why Akanesasu Shōjo is proof that the 3-episode rule is bullshit, or a chain of perversion and unrequited love in series like Bad Girl and even Haifuri.
>>
>>4587689
Come on, Renako went from not wanting to be in a relationship to literally being with 2 people at the same time on a public stage with people apparently watching.
>>
>>4587688
It was apparently too yuri so anons don't like it
>>
>>4587694
Hmm, fair point. Maybe I should try to refine and update my criteria now that I've drunken some of the yuri juice.

...uhh hang on, what were my original criteria? I've forgotten. New list:

-There's gotta be physical intimacy. Hugging, cuddling, not even a big kiss just physical touch. Icy Miorine and polite social distancing are the complete opposite of what I'm looking for.

-Relationship drama that's not tiring. Mei from Citrus is an example of what I don't want. Cold and distant, tension is built on the ice statue carrot-on-a-sticking the other girl with tiny hints. I'd prefer something that's a bit more lighthearted and sees the two girls working on their relatonship, rather than some outside force blocking them.

-No doomed yuri. Fuck the contrived, sad endings.

-Kiss or confession right at the end. I guess I'd prefer something unconventional?

For clarity, I'm not asking for something that rigidly fits these exact criteria and nothing else. Just if you could please use these preferences to suggest something that mostly aligns with what I'm after.

What the protagonist is only has relevance for the fact that something with a male protagonist is generally limited to either being gay (male) or straight (male), where a female protagonist has the potential for gay (yuri) or straight (female). The actual discrepancy is just that homosexuality is atypical and so in the extreme minority for depictions.

I would have to watch that to judge for myself, since I have seen several anime series with poor to mediocre performance, although the worst so far, even worse than that AKB which is terrible in all its roles, has been with Gridman universe in general, I have never heard such incompetent people in my life, especially the girls, I can swear that they did everything in one take and stopped trying.

I don't know about any controversy, but Sapphire's voice is quite unique. Like I never would have expected that to come out of girl this cute looking. But I think that isn't a bad thing. Especially in her Princess Knight form where she is meant to be a bit more androgynous, that voice actually fits her quite well. I guess you could say her voice is a bit floaty? But maybe I just didn't mind it because the world is so fucking weird anyway. You got Zirco who is a tiny gremlin and flies on a hovercar talking with that ultra specific inhuman masoct voice etc.

If anything I was really confused by a certain line delivery by Pine during the climax. I think that actress isn't very good at shouting...

So was the anon who first made the report wrong about Saphire being mostly plot focused and feeling like she doesn't love Pine as much as Pine loves her (I'm not saying she's het, mind you. Thus my comparison to the similarly unromantic and action focused Kimetsu. Sorry that I don't have many girl lead examples of a show so extremely focused on it's action plot)?. The movie is too long I don't have time to watch it yet, so I had to trust the reports here and elsewhere that it's basically unromantic and far from something like Kaguya
People here see Revue as non-yuri and I see Revue fans with low enough standards to see that as yuri claim Ribbon Kishi is not yuri,
>>
>>4588372
>I haven't watched the movie, but I keep making definitive statements and comparisons
Not helping to avoid your dumbass status anon...
Also you already showed your opinion is untrustworthy the moment you tried to say Kill la Kill's Ryuko/Mako pairing is comparable to trash like Demon Slayer.

Come on, I assume you actually watched Kill la Kill, though that is also in doubt now. Why don't you tell us exactly how the relationship wasn't set up or came out of nowhere? How there is no romance subtext. Or could it be your brain works even worse when there are too many flashing lights to distract it? Is that why you blame your lack of perception on action shows and plot?
>>
>>4588372
Just wait until you have time to watch it but you have to lower your standards to really low levels to see anything close to subtext.

Mako being a goddamn meme character from start to end when the rest aren't. A character like Mako can only be yuri in a meme comedy, not a girl lead shonen battle show. Her status as joke meme character makes it hard to take seriously any relationships or romance. They're all jokes like Kuroko in Railgun (difference is Ryuuko is not confirmed straight like Misaka) but even Kuroko can be a serious character.
>>4588375

Now shut the fuck up about the movie you dont know anything about.

You retard. RELAITONSHIPS ARE RECIPROCAL. ONE SIDED SHIT IS WORTHLESS
Subtext is only such if reciprocated. And the posts >>4587591
>>4587576
Paint Saphire as not reciprocating nearly equally strongly. NanoFate in their best days are worth it because both girls reciprocate and feel strongly about the other
If one of the girls is "too much of a plot girl to focus on any romance", then the whole thing is worthless
So are these posts accurate. Are they the troll?
>>

Pine is the one that says they will be friends forever, Why do you want everything to be Yuri when we have plenty, just stop being a weirdo and don't get angry about a mediocre movie.
>>
>>4588469
You are too retarded to read. You are too retarded to even perceive obvious yuri like Ryuko/Mako. You are the worthless one.
You regressive monkey, it's fucking subtext because the feelings are not explicitely reciprocated. Do you even know how words work or is that also too high level for your peanut brain? This is why you should kill yourself instead of posting here. If you watched the fucking movie you would understand how the relationship is build up and understand this basic shit. Or maybe you wouldnt. After all you are basically too stupid to see yuri unless the girls say they are gay while they french kiss.
>>
>>4588472
Stop watching the English dub.
>>
>>4588473
You can have subtext where it feels the relationship is equal even if still not explicit. Again: NanoFate feels like an equal relationship. None of the girls are "plot girls who don't focus on romance". Same for HibiMiku or Ange/Princess in Princess Principal (the TV show. With all the wait between movies, I'm waiting until they're all out to watch them, as otherwise I'd forget between movies and would have to rewatch anyways)

It was a stressful situation of course. I think Pine would be fine staying friends if Sapphire wanted that, but we simply don't see them ever address it. But we do know Pine will follow Sapphire to her old kingdom. Put 1 and 1 together.
>>
>>4588476
NanoFate are the definition of "action girls who dont focus on romance" you retarded ape. You are just making up imaginary paramaters so you can pretend to be right.

NanoFate are better than any KlK pairing

>>
>>4588480

You're the one who fails to understand relationships need to feel reciprocal and equal and claims subtext can exist with a meme character or a confession to a plot focused character
You're the one who claimed it doesn't feel like Saphire ever cares beyond friends
NanoFate meanwhile, while also subtext feel reciprocal and like they both equally care about the other. It's not one sided
You want to act like an expert but you're the retard who doesn't understand shit
>>
>>4588491
You are completely delusional, making up absurd nonsense. How is "best friends" not recicporcal care you piece of shit? How is the relationship not "equal"? You already admitted that one side having confirmed feelings is fine before, so what is this supposed imbalance monkey? Come on, try to make it make sense. You can't because you just want NanoFate to be a thing, but dont care about Ryuko/Mako. And in the same way you try to argue about a pairing you dont even fucking know, based on nothing.

Kill yourself. Nothing left to say.
>>
>>
Any time two people argue here my protip is to ship them.
It makes a minor annoyance cute.
>>
>>4588493
I never said one side having confirmed feelings was fine. I always side it needs balance and to be reciprocated. Oherwise the difference with shit like Railgun is that it's not het. But yuri isn't defined by the absence of het.
Again NanoFate feel like they both care about each other .I wouldn't descirbe any of them as "plot girls with no time for romance"
Unless you take that back about Saphire, what you descirbe is not even subtext. Just one sided ship tease. For subtext, you need to feel romance from Saphire too not just "plot focus"
So is Saphire pure plot or not? Stop being this desperate to defend your shitty movie when you need confessions to even consider subtext

Alright I watched Ribbon Hero. It might produce a bit of yuri fanart here and there, but I honestly don't see a genuine yuri community forming around this. I must warn you that the characters are VERY basic. I've got other complaints about the film but yuri wise, the biggest hindrance to any potential shipping is just how shallow the characters are. I understand the argument that people on this board ship characters for less than what this film had, but I truly don't see them sticking around in anyone's thoughts a week after watching it, let alone months or years. Someone above mentioned Revue, I think the MC might have less going for her than Karen...
This might sound harsh but trust me, I've seen much harsher reviews especially from the japanese. I don't regret watching it, certainly not as bad as some things I've seen recommended or shilled here, but I'm just letting you know if this doesn't catch on with yuri fans there is a reason why.
>>
>>4588541
>I've seen much harsher reviews especially from the japanese
to be fair, those are mostly because of the VA drama
>>
>>4588542
Nah I've seen a lot of complaints about the story presentation and script. Or how the connection to the original work is paper thin and it would've been better as its own brand new IP. But I won't do a deep dive on those issues since they're not what I think is the reason this won't blow up among yuri fans.

Just finished Ribbon Hero here too and....yeah, it wasn't great. So many weird little things that just felt out of place, like that completely inappropriate comedic fight with the horse, the "tribute" that was totally has my respect but it was just jarring in that moment, and what even was the point of Velvet crossdressing?

HOWEVER, I still liked it. It was a visual feast, it's got some cool action scenes with a female protag and her closest person was clearly another girl (and granny), and there's enough crumbs to think Pine caught the feels and they'll meet again so eh, good enough.

>>4588542
Watched the sub and I got....no idea where the VA drama could be from. There may have been a few odd sounding moments but I can't tell if it's a real issue or I'm just hearing things because I heard about the drama going in.

There was absolutely no point. Should've just been another girl for Sapphire to interact with because him looking and dressing like a girl didn't matter at any point in the film.

Something about the pacing just ruins it for me, especially if it's a 4koma. I'm not usually an ADHD zombie who gets bored with slowburn shows, maybe it's just that a lot of CGDCT series don't have a ton of substance or character depth to make up for the extended downtime an anime adaptation adds.
It's especially bad with the shy characters imo, reading a character go "t-t-thanks" is cute, but watching it and sitting through them doing it constantly gets really old

I was shocked when I went into a fairly small franchisee of a big national bookstore in a mall during Christmas and How Do We Relationship was prominently displayed and advertised in the middle of the score, opposite the registers. Its own standee shared with a few other other rando manga/books.

Sadly it was in dogshit-quality tiny pocketbook form where you have to squint to see shit, so I did not buy it. I already bought the series digitally so it'd need to be nice collector's edition for me to buy it. I didn't even know it was licensed where I live (small European country).

Nobody cares about butch girls. Not even self-proclaimed butch lovers. Every time and actual butch girl appears in anything people either think she is a dude for real or the writer wants to "subtvert the stereotype" and makes her hyper straight. I think the only semi-mainstream counter example I have ever seen is Scorpia in She-ra. She is not officially straight and has some implied gay moments with some girls. And she still looks like a woman. Exceptions support the general rule.

It's all so tiring. Even when there is a good story the whole volume is ruined by these retarded authors writing hetshit and retarded editors greenlighting it.

Well, the problem is you won't know about these stories until you've already bought and read it because they'll never advertise it by saying there's het in it.
>anthology is good, but then theres just one or two really bad ones
This happens more often than not. It makes it look like they have a het quota to respect. I have no idea what goes through the mind of an author that must draw a story for a yuri anthology and all they come up with is a het story.

maybe i'm dumb, but what did mizuka mean when she said "after what just happened, i see it now" before saying she was going to quit? Is she referring to understanding why she only wanted to perform for the black lotus circus, or is it because she thinks she's not cut out to be a performer after being shown up?

There are several problems there; more than a yuri series as such, it seems like those romantic drama series where the main couple happens to be yuri, but it's not a proper yuri series.

I would watch it, but that means I would actually care about it as a series. The main couple would have to be too memorable to endure the kind of mediocre romance that I already hate seeing in rom-coms, harems, or adaptations of shonen/seinen magazines whose authors pretend they are romance series.

>>
>>4590468
I'm not following Goodbye Lara but so far I'm more disappointed with the Circus show. There is some yuri but not enough, they'll probably play Mizuka's and Ouka's relationship as a gag till the end.

>>4590476

>>
>>4590492
She only got wet when pushed into the water. And the ending, which would signify her running out of time like her sister because she didn't discover true love yet, but that just indicate that even Luca's confession wasn't enough to give Lara strong enough feelings to overcome the potions' time limit.
Otherwise there was a lack of her light in the scenes with him, including the confession. And when it showed up, it was connected to the old prince and her fear and trauma over him trying to kill her and her feelings turning into a dagger that tried to kill him
The light is too central to the plot (the whole point is her manifesting it's full power to restore the mermaid kingdom), they can't have just forgotten to include it. It not being there is intentional
>>
>>4590468
>>4590479
I don't think i've ever said this unironically, but you have zero media literacy skills if you genuinely think the prince is her true love. Like actually zero, the show isn't exactly subtle about its symbolism
>>4590476
It's already confirmed the Russian girl and Ouka's ex-catcher are in a relationship, so its already yuri.
I doubt the main duo will form an explicit relationship, because it's not a romance series, so they usually like to keep it pretty vague. A pseudo-confession is pretty likely though with these sorts of shows.
I also wouldn't call it a gag either, they're obviously building towards their partnership Mizuka is finally putting her trust in her after almost quitting the circus, her fanaticism is played up for laughs, but their relationship isnt
>>
>>4590516
I think you're just setting yourself up for disappointment in a few weeks, but you do you. I don't expect either of these shows to deliver.

The best thing to do is wait until the series ends to give a real verdict and not say silly things on the fly. Honestly, this reminds me of the overused trope where the girl thinks she's found true love and then it turns out to be a false alarm. The drama is basically her realizing, after stumbling, that true love wasn't where she initially thought it was.
These are the kinds of paths that series like Yuru Yuri or Bad Girl would take if they weren't comedies.
>>

I like this series a lot, sad that it felt a bit rushed towards the end, but it seems the author intended this to be short from the start, which I also find sad, since the concept could have served for a much longer and complex story

Then, those same idiots just had silly complaints, since they'd lost the main argument: this was yuri. Completely opposite with garbage like Franxx, Gridman, and WEP. Any sensible person knew they weren't yuri. You had cultists who called them yuri and insulted you for saying otherwise, then they hid like rats when the truth hit them in the face.

It's obvious you were around back then. People were calling this yuri because of that stupid 02 licking of the jealous girl. Then, and only later, when the character Tomoyo appeared, did they take her seriously. But Tomoyo was never really relevant, and the plot gave her a pointless sacrifice, just to have her die prematurely. But you had people insisting there would be a great yuri ending. No matter all the het going on in the foreground, they kept calling it yuri and even pretending that a lesbian dying before the rest for reasons was yuri.
>>

>>4590636
No, it's not even equivalent. For something to be Het, it has to have real Het in the first place, not a possibility within the plot that many can see where it's going. The pathetic cases of Franxx, Gridman, and WEP never really tried to be yuri, not really try at all, just perverts pretending very hard, but not giving any real argument or even liking for the supposed pairings, just people acting like they were in a cult.

>>
>>4590648
>Nanoha
Come on anon, There is more yuri in my sandwich than in Friensdnoha.
>>
>>4590648
>>4590647

Nanoha is so shit there's nothing to discuss there They skip everything with narration. Either way, many have rightfully lost faith in the franchise and see the new installment as low effort, so not much discussion there. Beyond constantly calling out how the staff don't know what they're doing
And no one cares for Bang Dream. Bushi thread is pic spam. No one is preventing anyone from talking about BD but even here or Bushi few care
>adaptation
Sourcetards will spoil everything and mock anime onlies when they're wrong about their guesses. Also, not many anime onlies in the yuri board where most already read sources, so there's barely anything to discuss here that hasn't already been discussed when the adapted material came out in the manga
Originals are just more interesting. The director said it's yuri, so you cant' blame people for being interested in something that isn't an adaptation or tied to a franchise. The only other of the shows you people mention is the Circus show and I agree it's good
But maybe people see it as CGDCT typical subtext and don't care. Or sadly Lara attracts more because it has better art and animation than the Circus show and it's abuse of stills on performances (Sve really suffers from this in particular)
Same for Bang Dream, Unless there's a kiss or something, the idea of "Bang Dream" as "band show with subtext and little more" hurts it. It's own franchise works against it
People are more interested in an original crossing the maintext line already (even if the shows that can are also worse and more problematic than the safer originals that have no het but stay on subtext)
Regardless
> series that's all about a girl in love with a man, constantly trying to find him, imagining kissing him, going on dates with a boy and all kind of hetshit.
Funny how this could apply to Kannazuki no Miko if it were airing now
>>

Just 3 or 4 posts on airing day. I was talking about here. Nothing in general. Nothing in Bushiroad General. Where's the Bang Dream discussion and interest?
It may be bigger in Japan or outside here. But we're talking about discussion in /u/, so I talk about interest in /u/. Lara is Sundays. Bang Dream is thursdays. There's no overlap.. People can talk Bang Dream if they want. Yet they don't want to

>no one cares about yuri
Yeah, it shows. BanG Dream! will always be more yuri than whatever the fuck /a/nimefags spam here every season.
>>
>>4590664
SF6 ads aren't yuri anon. Blame the author for being an autist about FGs and focusing on that over any romantic progress (I'm told the manga hasn't had much more development than the anime yet) and then Crapcom for paying the production to turn it into a literal ad with literal game footage. Makes the whole show seem like cynical advertising that won't get anywhere. Lots of tease and shit but most of the episodes will be occupied by SFshit, which isn't a yuri game. The manga might be worth discussing but the anime? Nah. It suffers the problems I already explained about adaptations with the added problem of the covered material being very nothingburger
>>

And by then it's already been years of nothingburger CGDCT band subtext shit in anime and game. People want more than the basic shit Bandori provides. Maybe if D4DJ could've had an standalone anime about the lesbian couple
I dunno what it is about Yumemita. It's good and gay, but it gets no traction here compared to Ave Mujica. Did people lose faith after Ave Mujica because they hated the menhera melodrama and now they're unwilling to give Yumemita a chance?
Seriously, what happened?
>>
>>4590666

>>4590667
That's what I thought as well but then they deleted my post too within minutes since I posted it.
>>
>>4590662
The problem is that /u/ as a board has the same silly "mainstream" problems as several other (barbaric) Western communities on the internet: they discuss a few things, ignore others, and then are surprised that there was yuri where they weren't looking. That being a positive case, in the worst case they are deceived by malicious or overly optimistic people who try to sell them things like Mou Ippon or Medalist as yuri series.

>>4590666
Watching the anime Tai Ari Deshita, I can understand the complaints about autism in SF6, but the problem is that saying it's not yuri is somewhat despicable. Even if it's a minimal shipptease, it can be considered a little yuri. Honestly, this series does well everything that Rock wa Lady does spectacularly badly (with the latter receiving the credit it honestly doesn't deserve).

I've been here on /u/ long enough to see a lot of stupid complaints back in the day or ignored series that still mean a lot to me.
>>
>>4590669
Dates witn boy are fine as long as boy is not endgame
>yuri series
Where's the yuri? Yuri is not when there aren't any males, and Tai Ari is more interested in FGC autism over yuri. Again, maybe the manga is worth discussing. But it's so slow burn in favour of SF autism, that the anime is worthless
And again, it being an adaptation is a discussion killer because anime onlies here are a minority and most people here already discussed what the anime covers when it was released as manga
>>
I will only say that in vol 9 and 10 of Tai Ari Deshita there is nothing, not even subtext,is a fucking waste of time.
>>
>>4590671
Wtrong. Rock Lady is better and more yuri than Tai Ari. Seeing Tai Ari I could understand why people weren't interested before release. It might have yuri tag. But the material the anime covers os too much focus on FG shit. There's some yuri but not enough
>>
>>4590674
Don't you dare disagree with the agenda. Tai Ari is super yuri because no unromantic dates with boy
It doesn't have the "hetshit elelements" and we know yuri is defined exclusively by lack of those
>>
>>4590668
>>LMAO NO. Not until Ave Mujica and Yumemita
hahaha, you can't be serious, you really can't be serious.

>>nothingburger CGDCT band subtext shit in anime and game.
Do you even know what yuri is? No, it's not a series ending with explicit sex or a diagram explaining why the couple is canon. Under that same excuse, no yuri series about a developing relationship should be considered yuri, even if it's published in a yuri magazine or is considered yuri by the author.

>>Maybe if D4DJ could've had an standalone anime about the lesbian couple
I love how they always use D4DJ in the stupidest way possible just because they mention a canon couple that they don't really care about in the slightest, while at the same time ignoring the couples suggested along the way. Did you know that they are part of a group and they are not the only two members?

>>but it gets no traction here compared to Ave Mujica.
Yumemita works as a tragicomedy, it's that simple, that's why it doesn't have traction, it doesn't mean it's any less gay, on the contrary, it's a super gay series and it's also, by the way, the best CG anime even by the superior standards of BD (rot in envy Polygon Pictures)
>>
>>4590675
Rock Lady isn't better, and it's not even good, for that matter. Everything in that series ranges from those silly, forced insults between the two leaders—the kind of musical anime I hate the most, where the music conveys nothing and the characters have to tell you what to feel or think. Let's be completely frank: not a single relationship in that series is even remotely decent. Tai Ari, as a series, and with all its silly obsession with SF6 (which is sadly realistic), still has a better dynamic and relationship between its characters, albeit minimal and silly, but it's something I can at least call romantic.

The anime about the mangaka teacher with frustrated dreams is really good; the lilac-haired woman was gay for the teacher almost from the moment they met.

I like rock lady and the street fighter show
I also am still able to enjoy shows that dont explicitly have the girls dating or fucking each other but are still clearly showing that they have romantic interest in each other. When romance and romcoms are like that people dont say
>well they arent really romcoms/romance because nothing progresses
if a show has no males, only background males, or the males do not matter while there is clear romantic moments/hinting between the girls I think thats at least light yuri/gl and I still like it. The fact that that kind of setup/show is increasing in frequency as well is a good sign for the fact yuri and gl as a whole are getting more popular/prevelant

I love the hypocrisy of some people not only on /u/ but in other places too. I mean, you have interaction between a girl and a boy of a variable, possibly non-romantic nature, and people jump in and yell "het" or "super canon relationship" (even if nothing happens). But instead, you have two girls who can be as gay as you want, have tons of shipping, have staff support, voice actors, or just have good chemistry together, and no, there's nothing romantic there. It's just yuri fan paranoia... Obviously, I'm talking about Pokémon Horizons, and it made it clear to me that people on Reddit suffer from serious mental problems.
>>
>>4590685
I still remember people almost 20 or 15 years ago complaining about those kinds of series, just because they only had female characters and considering them bad for that reason, but then they praise harem garbage as if they were masterpieces, despite how bad their male leaders were and the harem girls were nothing more than a pathetic menu of fetishes.

We've reached this point where the upcoming adaptations of that garbage Index are completely ignoring Index, focusing instead on its moe bait Railgun and the spin-off centered on one of the worst groups in Index, just because the worst of the Index protagonists hadn't appeared yet and one of the worst level 5s hadn't killed the blonde who was less relevant than people admit. I'm not calling this a victory for yuri, but anything that contradicts those idiots from 15 or 20 years ago is fine by me.

Yumemita gets no discussion because, outside of viomiya, there's not much yuri to discuss.
Araritsu is cute, but their conflict revolves around viola and now that they're friends again all the tension has been sucked out of their relationship and unfortunately not replaced with much romantic fluff
Nonoyuno is cute too, but they have almost no screen time and are barely even characters at this point

Not really, I think all three series do their job of being moderately entertaining, I see them all as equivalent considering it's just band drama stuff.
But at the end of the day I watch this stuff for the yuri, that's what I remember after the deal, meaning I remember hatsune x sakiko from ave mujica and that's it.
As >>4590724 put it, the main attraction here is viola, she's at the center of every main conflict and miyako is overtly enamored with her, so whether yumemita ends up memorable or forgettable hinges entirely on how they resolve the viola situation.
I really hope they aren't gunning for her disappearing after a humiliating defeat or something, but eventually redeem her instead, which is what I'd expect of band dream though the fact that her bandmates have the personality of cartoon lackeys worries me about their band's staying prospects.

Notice how you didn't answer me. Even something like Lyco. Even shit like Nanoha Exceeds has more yuri than TaiAri anime. Manga readers agree, too
Stoip defending a shit show just because you want a weapon against Lara
No one would be defending SF6 ads the anime if it wasn't airing in the same season as Lara
>>
>>4590686
>if you treat boy x girl differently than girl x girl you have double standards
Wish we stopped with this silly line of defense, gender does matter in society and relationships, of course a boy and a girl holding hands is always going to look romantic by default while a girl and girl is going to look like friendship by default.
People are assumed to be heterosexual until proven otherwise because it's the norm, there's no hypocrisy there, so when it comes to non-explicit stuff, it is much simpler to create the expectation that a boy and a girl have something going on compared to girl x girl.
This isn't about Lara btw, I'm not even watching it.
>>
>>4590770
I've already answered you, retard.
TaiAri has girls explicitly attracted to each other and has scenes showing it, unlike whatever the fuck you keep blabbering about every season.
The shitty game turned into an ad doesn't change that and it's completely irrelevant in a discussion about yuri.
>>
>>4590776
It doesn't, you delusional tard. If your only defense is "it's better than x", that shoews you really only care to use it as a weapon against shit you dislike. Because even you know the show is worthless otherwise. Again, learn to shit on shows without having to defend other shit shows as a weapon against what you hate
If people stopped talking about Lara or whatever other shows you hate, they wouldn't talk more about TaiAri
What TaiAri should be
>yuri with some FGC
what it is
>FGC with some minimal yuri to keep the tag. No progress in 10 volumes
Even if it is yuri, it's worthless. The KanoKari of yuri. "getting some standards" isn't just about rejecting shows like Lara. It's also about rejecting shows like TaiAri that utterly waste your time even if they're yuri
>>
>>
>>4590780
Nice episode 2 screenshot, dipshit.
Now showe me the progress. Show me how much time is dedicated to FGCshit and how minimal the time dedicated to scenes like this is
If it wasn't for the tag and the teasy moments in those first few episodes, I'd say the characters feel like gaming buds and there's little love here
It stagnated and forgot to show any more yuri. The author prefers to show FGC autism. The girls spend more time yapping FGC lingo than flirting
I can say the anime is yuri, but is shitty yuri

Any screenshots of actual romance instead of the show using characters to go "you should be shipping this couple"
A good romance actually shows you the couple being romantic instead of using side characters to tell you. Not to mention the point of this charactetr is "look at her misunderstanding Mio and Aya's relationship as romantic. Isn't it funny how wrong she is"?
Show, don't tell.

I'm not even talking about your favourite het series of the season, and this shows how you aren't understanding a line of what you read and you're only making up shit in your head.
Always pulling this "you like / you dislike" bullshit argument when we're only talking about yuri. Well, I am, because you definitely aren't.
You keep talking about this irrelevant shitty game thing disregarding all the yuri while defending a series with a girl going on dates with a boy. You ask people to post screenshots and they do but nope, that actually doens't count because... it's from a few episodes ago! But it's okay when in the latest episode of your favourite series there's nothing but het. You won't recognize BanG Dream! as yuri until there will be a kiss, but say Suisei no majo doesn't need a kiss, doesn't need to show the wedding, doesn't need to put romance in it, it's okay if it wastes episodes and episodes on the plot with the guys.
This is not about this series vs that series, it's about you ignoring yuri because you have some retarded reasoning against it while defending non-yuri because you like it.
You're accusing others of defending a series only because they like it when in reality there are various yuri moments used as an argument, while it's actually you doing that, defending a series without any yuri moment, with an active het plot taking up the whole story.
And that's why you're full of shit. incoherent and hypocritical troll.
And it's useless to talk with you, you will always reject everything presented against your autistic view and go on and on with your nonsense and I don't have any more time to waste with you.
Btw, picrel is from one of the latest chapter of TaiAri. Not that you would know since you don't read yuri and only uses whatever negative bullshit other retards like you say. But again this isn't about TaiAri, it's just to further show how full of shit you are.

Ok. Let's ignore Lara
TaiAri is shit. The only defense it has is "it's airing on the same season as Lara"
If Lara didn't exist, you'd have no defense
And I never said I don't see BD as yuri. I do. It's better and gayer than TaiAri. I was speculating why BD doesn't seem to get more than a few posts on airing day. Why the Bushiroad general is a dead imagespam thread even with a new Bang Dream show airing. That's not about my feelings,. That's me trying to speculate why interest in BD is so dead in this board
>>
Also WfM has romance. It has the married ending
If TaiAri has any of those, it will be in the manga
Nothing in the episodes the anime will adapt. Thus while the manga might be good, the anime definitely isn't
Also if all scenes with males is "show bad wasting time". The same applies to the male streamers and FGC tards in TaiAri. TaiAri also has males, hypocrite

>>

>4 posts in a row fishing for replies by sperging utter nonsense
Shut the fuck up, retard. You aren't saying TaiAri is bad, you're saying it's not yuri and you must be called out for being a completely dishonest subhuman, like comparing the guys in TaiAri having no relations at all with the girls with guys going on dates with girls in other series.
>>
>>4590802
>dates
Shit that didn't happen in WfM. Outside a single episode that ended with the guy pissed off, challenging Suletta to a fight and then turned to ashes for losing
Did you forget Suletta rejecting Elan 5's advances while she still thought he was 4?
You can say whatever about Lara, but bringing WfM into this is a mistake. Because the guys in WfM aren't any more relevant to the girls than the guys in TaiAri.
I'm saying TaiAri is bad BECAUSE the yuri is minimal. It can be yuri. But is shit yuri and most of it reserved for the manga
Contrast with KimiShinu which has lots of yuri in the anime itself. The war is secondary to the bonds of the girls. The way KimiShinu treats the war is how TaiAri should treat the FGC shit
>>
Why even bring up such a nothing burger show when Yumemita, KimiShinu and Grow Up Show exist? They're all better than TaiAri and actually worth defending. The only utter nonsense here is the desperate defense of such a nothingburger show. Yuri yes, but very minimal and shitty. Not worth anyone's time

Let's talk about Yumemita then.
Knowing they're from a mobile game first and foremost and Viola's current uggo bandmates are barely characters, what are the odds she ends up back in the band or something?
I haven't played Bandori in forever so I'm not sure how sumimi and Mana are treated in game, but I think it'd feel odd for a character like Viola to not end up being playable or something.
>>
>>4590875
0.
The band members are announced beforehand. And besides, Yumemita's gimmick is that all their seiyuus are Vtubers who are larping the characters in real life. So Fuji Miyako is credited as Fuji Miyako. Meanwhile Viola is played by Kaede Hondo with no Vtuber identity. We knew Ritsu would join even when the anime introduced her as Clematis of Fairy Bouquet because the Mewtype members were already known before the anime: Arale, Ritsu, Nono, Miyako and Yuno
This goes beyond anime and game. There's also real bands here putting out real concerts. Whatever happens with Viola, she's not joining Mewtype
>>
>>4590923
I was talking about TaiAri Which is worse than WfM and Madoka. You grouping Lara with them doesn't help your arguments against Lara. Whatever happens with Lara, it means nothing to WfM and Madoka. Fuck off Yuri is not defined by absense of males or "het elements". Those elements can be there as long as they aren't the endgame. Which they aren't in either WfM or Madoka

As NPCs, nothing more. sumimi did open for the AveMyGO joint live and the other seiyuu praised Mana's performer for being a super nice person, so there's that, but since Fairy Bell hasn't even had so much as an insert song yet Hondo Kaeda will probably stay at home.

I suppose that would be an interesting direction if they decide to take the character's popularity and maybe give her a band with some specific gimmick or something like that. It would be a waste of a character, although in this series it's not uncommon to have that type of character with a certain popularity or recognition, but who isn't part of a band, like Marina and the Hag. Even "milky green" would fall into that category despite the supposed importance they had in S1.

Came across a discussion about things that are about to major hits in the mainstream but normies dont know about them yet (something called dungeon crawler carl and cosmere)

What's the yuri equivalent of this? Any hidden gem in the light novel or whatever space that will soon get adapted into a more digestible format like manga or anime?
>>
>>4591136
Define "normies"? General yuri audience? Weebs and western audience? There's stuff that is big with /u/s and JP yuri scene but other people don't know about. Like Vampeerz. OmaeGotoki hasn't really made a splash with either the manga or (bad) anime but Kiki also has a bunch of other yuri WNs that aren't adapated into LNs.

/r9k/ Elsa is Suffering?

Kristoff's entire plot in the second movie was about trying to ask Anna so it's not surprising. It's not like Disney was going to make a standard princess movie where the romance plot that worked out in the first film was going to go downhill and stop in later ones. Elsa is getting a hot evil new girl to ship her with so it sort of worked out.
