Is it an industry plant?
>>
>>739288098
None so blind as those who won’t see
>>
>>739288098
Honestly, mentions of the game were minimal until after it won.
>>
it changed the industry and influenced gaming for decades, just like e33.
>>
>>739288098
Sounds like you just weren't on the internet for a year, people were blowing this shit up since the gay bear sex when it got officially announced.
>>
How is it even possible to seethe over a game this long?
>>
File: file.png (1.03 MB, 1024x576)

>>739288098
all i knew is
>bear sex
and i wasn't interested
i still tried it (for free) and i killed astarion for putting a knife to my throat, no regrets and nothing happened
but then i was a paladin and i got my oath broken for saving the yellow elf. this completely ruined the game for me and i dropped.
why the fuck does saving someone in a cage break my paladins oath? stupid ass game. i dropped it there.
i can't be bothered to play games where you have to follow a guide step by step not to break the arbitrary rules the game put in place
>>
>>739288098
No it's not an industry plant
>>
>>739289419
>why the fuck does saving someone in a cage break my paladins oath?
Stopped being dishonest, faggot. You obviously killed the two tieflings
>>
>>739289557
you're the dishonest one, they attacked me first
>>
>>739289601
>I DIDNT DO ANYTHING!
>Ok I did brutally kill those npcs, but why does that break my “don’t brutally kill everything” oath?

Fun fact: Durge default class was originally paladin. But people could not hold on to their oaths for more than 5 minutes so they changed it
>>
>>739289770
they attacked me, they literally attacked me. why the fuck are you being so fucking dishonest is honestly beyond me, go fuck yourself
>>
Post the gameplay
>>
>>739288098
BG3 and E33 both deserved goty
>>

>>739288098
holy newfags.
/v/ tried to tortanic it since a month before release when the bearfucking got revealed. go back touristniggers.
>>
>>739289850
You had multiple opportunities to resolve it without anyone dying, but instead you tried to hide behind the self-defence argument like any good war criminal

Also why are you upset in the first place? Oathbreaker is the best subclass
>>
>>739290116
>You had multiple opportunities to resolve it without anyone dying
i. tried. they. attacked. me.
>why are you upset in the first place? Oathbreaker is the best subclass
i don't know that. i stopped playing the game there. i already said
>i can't be bothered to play games where you have to follow a guide step by step not to break the arbitrary rules the game put in place
>>
>>739288098
Yep, no one ever heard of it until it won the goty. Total industry plant.
And /v/ totally wasn't in a constant state of chuddie melty about it since they showed the bear sex.
>>
>>739290230
I’m not saying those tieflings weren’t retarded. They obviously should have realized they were outmatched and made a run for it.
But you basically walked up to them and tried to free a raider that had killed their friends. How is that anything but a provocation?
>>
>>739289419
You're not supposed to kill the Tieflings. You have to convince them to leave by other means.
>>
>>739288098
>I literally heard nothing about this game until it won goty
So you did not visit /v/ for a good 2 years of early access, are not interested in the CRPG genre to know about Larian or the buzz about BG getting a new entry and you do not visit any conventional gaming cites nor social media.

Good to know

/v/ really is full of fucking tourists isn't it? DOS2 made Larian a household name and anyone even vaguely interested in the genre has known them since DOS1 kickstarter, that of course would require for your culture warrior ass to be older than 16 to know about
>>
>>739290371
but i didn't try to free her right away, i didn't attack them either. i tried to be peaceful. maybe it was an issue with skill checks, but all i got was that i broke my oath for defending myself
>>739290454
>You have to convince them to leave by other means.
i tried, i literally did try and they attacked me
>>
>>739288098
If you were even remotely interested in RPGs then you would have at least heard of it
>>
>>739290535
EVen ignoring that, the game was spammed in /v/, /vg/ and /vrpg/. Like, unless he posts only on /int/ and decided to pop over to troll today, it was impossible to miss
>>
>>739290557
You do know the “non-lethal attacks” toggle exists, right? It’s available to everyone at the start and it was implemented mainly so paladins didn’t have to worry about breaking their oaths
>>
>>739291374
i probably didn't use it, it was the first and only time i played it.
i rewatched the scene on youtube though and it's just so weird. people keep saying that the tieflings are good and the gith is bad, but the situation is the complete opposite. they're literally killing a defenceless woman in a cage
>>
>>739288098
>I literally heard nothing
because you were too busy shitposting about politics to join in the RTwP vs TBS debates that were raging back when Larian announced they'd be making BG3. It's weird, you'd definitely have noticed the numerous early access threads crying about that blogpost or female dwarves with beards.
>>

Feels good to be on the right side of history when literally every CRPG is including a TBS mode now if they were RTwPslop previously
>>
>>739288098
It was in EA for a year, and it was from the makers of DoS2, which is a beloved CRPG. Not everything is an industry plant just because you live in a cave.
>>
>>739288098
What an absurd attempt.
Even if you were a genuine nogames shitposter, there is no way in hell that you would have missed the bear breaking that every one of you gameless vermin jumped on, nor the seething when it managed to consistently increase its player count for two weeks in a row despite all the shitposting.
>>
>>739291625
Giths are basically raiders that kill for sports. That’s why they are contemplating on wether they should leave or kill her before you arrive
>>
>>739293036
i didn't know that. i had just got into the game.

it was the bear sex and shills who say otherwise are either ignorant or disingenuous. It went viral when Larian had a pre launch event broadcast live from some Belgian shithole brick building. They showed the scene and I watched it blow up on twitter in real time. Before then the game was nothing, in fact it was sorta of memed on because of it being early access for so long. Larian's on stats show most players never finished the game, because a flood of normies (a higher % than normal being women) bought it and dropped once it became apparent it was shit. Sure it has its fans, but that never meant it was good, its really just the best in its niche currently.

>>
>>739288098
/v/ will bash it because it's "woke" or popular, but honestly the reason it's so popular is because it literally does what everyone wants out of a linear RPG game.

>complete total freedom to do whatever the fuck you want and kill whoever the fuck you want
>the choices to be completely evil or completely good, or somewhere in between
>choices matter and affect future quests, characters, and plot lines
>different playthroughs can result in entirely different outcomes
>over hundreds of hours of content in one playthrough
>ability to play co-op with friends locally and online
>modding tools and mods to extend the life of the game

Say what you will, but Larian delivered what /v/ wants out of an RPG experience.

wait you think that a game made by one of the last, if not the last, big independent rpg devs is an "industry plant"
like how would that even work, what part of the "industry" would "plant" this game rather than one of the games distributed by the big publishers

the actual industry plant of the RPG's around that time was Veilguard, it was relentlessly pushed on everyone at the behest of an industry juggernaut (EA) despite being an objectively shit game
>>
>>739298257
the biggest sin of the loot in bg3 is how fucking BORING it is.

>be surprised that's not the optimal way in a role playing game
>>
Well, it launched early access, and was out for like 5 years and was completely unremarkable in every single aspect of it's existence, the devs were ultra-woketards who would unceasingly seethe that the supermajority of players picked generic A. Wyatt. Mann cosplays with fighter as a class. Then they used a gigantic cash infusion to market the game before launch, because marketing is what sells games, nothing else. It's a serviceable cRPG that starts very strong and trails off towards the back third, so it captured casuals who only play 10-15 hours of a game anyway. All the memes and shit they marketed foot-forward like bear sex helped propel it into the normalfag line of sight, as well.
>>
>>739299431
Why would it work? Paladin is the big guy in heavy armor whacking guys at the frontlines. Dex is not that.

>>
>>739299431
what do you mean? it can
>>
>>739300001
DEX increases AC up to the limit the armor permits, which is practically nothing in heavy armor. So you have to purposefully wear lighter armor so you can gain AC from DEX, and then you still suck at hitting the guy in fromt of you because you lack strenght.
>>
There were early access threads on /v/ for years
>>
>>739300083
Use a Finesse weapon, the best medium armors have really good DEX bonuses making them a better choice than heavy armors.
>>
>>739300083
Finesse to-hit and weapon damage scale with DEX so you only suck at hitting the guy in front of you if you use wrong weapons or don't chug strength potions
>>
>>739300351
At that point you've sacrificed so much that you're basically playing "we have rogue at home"
You're not using the strenghts of the job, and you're not getting the bonuses of a dex job.
>>

They're technically innocent people, they attack Lae'zel since the Gith group you meet a little later killed a few of them you find that out in the Grove from the guy they mention when you initiate dialogue best thing to do if you do combat is to just knock them out instead of kill them.
>>
>>739289419
how did you ignore the multiple dialogue options to tell the tieflings to fuck off? Paladins even get a special option
>>
>>739299767

The fact that none of the highly situational act 1 amulets have been posted proves that they’re just playing telephone from release threads.

>>
>>739301545
>all i saw was 2 people killing a woman
No, you saw two scared people capturing a woman and debating what to do with her. There's a difference.
> in that moment i really tried to do what's right
Your oath doesn't necessarily line up with what you personally think is correct. That is one of the restrictions of playing paladin. If you don't want to live by a rigid oath, don't play an oathbound class. Or just play oathbreaker.
>>
>>739301545
They say "Zoru was right" which should tell you they seen them before, and the fact they have her trapped should tell you that they're hostile to the Tieflings
>>
What the fuck are Tiefling names even supposed to be?
>>
>>739301732
as i said, she seemed standoffish, untrusting.

it's you guys who can't put yourself into the shoes of someone who quit the game early. all the answers i get involve some knowledge that i couldn't have gotten yet
>>739301852
>you saw two scared people capturing a woman
no, the male wanted to kill her and the female wanted to leaver for the goblins who would probably do worse.
>>739301872
i didn't get all that. the first impression i got was of monsters who trapped someone, then they debated whether to killer her now or leave her to be killed
>>
>>739301205
But they didn’t attack you first. You tried to free a prisoner that had supposedly killed their friends and they tried to stop you. And even though it was a clear misunderstanding, you still used lethal attacks
>>
>>739302289
>no, the male wanted to kill her and the female wanted to leaver for the goblins who would probably do worse.
So they had her captured, and were debating what to do with her. And they were scared. That lines up exactly with what I said.

I mean, if there's really an option to knock people out and it's a paladin, the game seems justified. Just because you can knock people out. All else non-withstanding. Paladins are known for having weird rules.

There is, non-lethal attacks are important in a few points. But the game sucks at tutorializing that sort of thing. It's honestly my big gripe with the game, it sucks at explaining itself.

they did. i must have failed a charisma check because they did.

>>739304449
The problem is that you acted rash. You jumped to conclusions about the situation, and escalated it towards lethal violence. You had several options to avoid this. As a result, you killed innocent people.
Yes, they are innocent. You're coming to the aid of someone who attacked them. They are hence excused to fight you. That you didn't know that is your problem - the outcome matters as much as the intent.
Look, I know, Paladin can be a bitch to play. There's a lot of situations where not breaking your oath is a pain in the ass. But if you commit to an oath, you gotta put in the effort.

>im pretty sure we can just randomly pick any other game that has loot in it, and its gonna be better than what bg3 has.
Wrong. The last five games I played besides BG3
>Ghost of Tsushima
I just got some... iron. A lump or iron and some leather. And what's around the corner here? Another lump of iron and some linen. I guess I can upgrade my armor to a bigger number now...
>Expedition 33
Most of it is just consumables for linear stat upgrades. Pictos are amazing loot and are transformative to gameplay but they are rare compared to the shit load of chroma catalysts and color of lumina, and you only get the passives and stats in a quite mechanical way compared to BG3 where you get unique descriptions and models for each item.
>Grandia
Shit loads of potions and consumables you never use. Very rarely find a new weapon or piece of gear, and if you do they don't often have unique passives. There is the hat which allows you to teleport to hit, which you conveniently get just before you lose your archer from the party, which is nice.
>Lies of P
Same system that Expedition 33 borrows from. 99% of it is ergo of various shapes and sizes, only bosses drop interesting or unique loot.
>Horizon Forbidden West
Actually a relatively fun loot system but most of the loot is still junk you don't and will never need, the fun is how you obtain it by chipping off specific parts

So from a sample of 5, BG3 has them all beat for loot. There are not many games where you get interesting unique loot all over the place, dropped from enemies, in chests, littered around the world. There are just shit loads of items with unique passives that can alter your build besides just giving stat bonuses. I guess it would be fairer to compare it to another western RPG, but even in Oblivion for instance you can lockpick a chest in somebody's house and find nothing but some tongs and a ball of fucking yarn which the residents inexplicably needed to keep under lock and key.

In BG1 there's a paladin who comes up to your party and if you're traveling with anyone who is evil he will instantly aggro and try to wipe you all out. That is what a paladin is. He sees evil and he terminates it without mercy. He doesn't "talk people down", he isn't a fucking therapist, he is a holy warrior who will wipe out any evil that he sees.

If Larian can't understand this or feel triggered by it then they have no business making a Baldur's Gate game.

I specced Karlach as a Paladin and just ignored the oath storyline completely. I just wanted her to be a slow single hit melee tank who wields a massive weapon and chunks a load of HP in one hit. Paladin 4 for Divine Smite, Sorcerer 5 which is the minimum number of levels for level 4 spell slots I think and also gives Booming Blade, and Fighter 3 Champion, also using the crit range bow, elixir of viciousness and the underdog gloves for near constant advantage. Has the vampire potion for +2 STR and for perks went with GWM and the one which gives +1 STR (20 total) and doubles jump distance. Also casted increase size on her for most battles just for fun. So she's a slow lumbering giant that can leap right across the battlefield into a swarm of enemies, cleave through them and optional divine smite on hit, then colossal onslaught the same or another 3 dudes and smite them as well, or booming blade for tanky bosses for an extra 2d8, with a high chance to crit, and roll again with action surge if I don't.

Never played D&D before or any BG but man did I love the build and battle system once I began to understand it. One of my favorite all time RPGs.

Individuals of a race are capable of straying from their alignment in editions where alignments are featured, that doesn't stop the majority of the race from acting how their alignment would describe (see the creche in the mountain pass)
Lae'zel doesn't become good, at best she strays from lawful evil to more lawful neutral
>How are paladins able to keep their oath after they refuse to kill the gith on-sight?
You don't break the oath for not killing Lae'zel, you break your oath for killing the innocent, and in the situation where Lae'zel is captured you can avoid that by getting them away from her, which really shouldn't be hard since Paladins are a charisma class

I want to say Bow Paladin is the antithesis of what a Paladin is, but Paladins are just holy warriors in service to a deity or beholden to an oath the weapons they use are irrelevant

I assume that a paladin’s power is channeled through them by a higher power (not necessarily a god), and into their weapon. And using a bow would break this connection the moment the arrow is let loose

In the case that there isn't any evil inherent enough here for the gith to not be killed on sight (which is what I'd prefer), what makes you think that merely being a paladin means you get to decide what's right and wrong? If you fail to convince them, you're not forced to kill them. The tieflings holding her aren't "horrible monsters and murderers" just because you failed a roll.

Later, homo. And once again, try oathbreaker. The “I DECIDE WHATS GOOD AND EVIL!” mindset fits that subclass perfectly
>>
>>739309903
>You just dont know what a paladin is! It's whatever I think it is!
The sad part is that you wont stop here, your battered ego and autism wont let you admit you're in the wrong.
>>
>>739309903
>Oh shit she's an evil raider?
Funny, I don't see "evil" in my post, because the game doesn't have alignments.
All that happened is that you killed innocent people who captured her and you broke your oath not to do so, it's not that deep. You can be an oathbreaker and not be evil.

Surprising the number of special dialogues that Barbarians get
>>
>>739308227
The basic gist is
>Gortash’s parents sell him to Raphael
>he finds out about the crown while at the house of hope
>makes a deal with Zariel to escape
>rises his way up the Big Guy’s ranks and meets Durge
>they both hatch the plan to steal the crown and control the nether brain (which Raphael seethes about because he never had the balls to try)
>from there they plan to have Durge cause panic from inside Baldur’s Gate and Ketheric to provide an obvious threat to rally against using his army of useful idiots
>however nobody counted on Orin having a woman moment and fucking everything up
>durge getting ousted causes a chain reaction that has them lose control of the brain
>>
>>739308227
>Whiters: the dead three want to turn everybody into mindflayers to deprive the other Gods of souls or algo
>Gortash: "we want to tadpole key people to rule over a totalitarian autocracy in the name of our evil Gods"
>Brain: "I orchestrated everything... somehow!"
Dont worry, even the writers didnt understand it.

nah it's unironically GOTD so far
1. BG3
2. E33
3 Elden Ring

None of my Paladins use swords so that swordfags seethe about some image they have in their head
>>
>>739312293
if you want to fuck with the image of a paladin later in the game, you could be dex-focused with the finesse glaive and use polearm master + sentinel
I originally did this with a rogue for a free sneakattack on anyone entering melee range, but it should "Work" here too

>Baldur's Gate is literally the most famous CRPG.

No, that's Fallout. Fallout is infinitely more famous.
>>
>>739312628
I tried multiclassing as a paladin+druid and relying on shillelagh. Some staffs are really fucking busted with this
>>
>>739313135
Is that the cantrip that makes your melee weapon use your spell modifier for damage?
>>
>>739313441
Yes. It only works on staffs though
>>
>>739313496
Sounds like an excuse to make a Druid for me then

Good job not reading a single fucking thing before that sentence.
A paladin is 100% allowed to kill to defend himself, or to rescue somebody. In fact that's his job.

Daily reminder that BG3 has more players after 3 years than gook AI slop after two months that /v/ shilled so hard here
>>
Paladins don't kill. Mostly because you can't really consider Evil races, like goblins and orcs and Dark-Elves, to be living. They are amalgamations of Evil and should be scattered apart with a SMITE EVIL
SMITE EVIL

China lost so much money shilling bad games you are down to only having budget 1 thread per day. Sometimes 2-3 slide threads.
Random anons like me just come in to laugh at you now.

If it gets universal praise, it most likely is.

Which Druid subclass sacrifices shitty wild shape stuff for better casting?
>>
>>739317445
circle of land is the casting subclass
spores is also good if you like necro shit

wild shapes are pretty shit. i just consider shapes to be free HP. it sponges up damage and then pops, like whatever.
>>
>>739318557
Necro shit is just too cockblocked in most games, especially BG3 it's kind of why I'm hesitant to try Oathbreaker
>>
>>739317445
Lands give you more spells and casts, but doesn’t do anything special with wild shape.
Spores is more necromancy focused and lets you use wild shape to spam the strongest shield in the game.
Stars gives you some free guiding bolts and dragonform is mandatory if you plan on spamming concentration spells.
>>
>>739320445
Bg3 handles necromancy well but act 2 is filled with enemies that are either resistant or immune to necrotic damage
>>
>>739319513
Yeah they got hit with the nerf bat.
Because back in the day they were so OP that druids invalidated fighters just by having wildshape.
>>
a full fleged AAA crpg that wasn't shackled to some stupid EA action rpg gimmick, taking up the baldur's gate mantle was a big deal. larian being a smol quirky belgian company and baiting the chuds kept its name in the headlines.
>>
>>739288098
BG3 and E33 were both huge hits because the big money RPG companies have adopted "gamers don't like actual RPGs, they want cinematic action slop" mindsets over the last 15 years, and now a by-the-book western CRPG and a by-the-book final fantasy-style JRPG, both with decent production values, came out and showed that people do still want these these things despite Bioware and Square's insistence on the opposite. They're really nothing that special on their own, they just exist in a vacuum thats been formed by the former giants of the genre abandoning it. It's sort of like that new Game of Thrones show: is it actually THAT good? Or are we just that starved of straightforward fantasy media with likable and competent main characters?

they're still strong as fuck in BG3 though.
>No gear requirement at all
>Wolf bite + free inflict woulds crit nuke
>early free flight for exploration/free xp
>Tavern brawler bullshit
>Free HP bloat on a fucking BA if you're a moon druid
>literally a free turn into a fighter button after your spells run out
>drop owlbear shenanigans
>Owlbear is a free barbarian button that deals strong damage or gets focus fired for a free turn for the party

>sabertooth 3 attack bullshit
>why the fuck does the dinosaur have a sexy bed pose
>Retard damage with the tavern brawler myrmidon

they're not action surge fighter or a multiclass but consider that this is a fucking free side ability for a full caster. at worst you'll buy the tavern brawler talent and rape shit.
honestly the only bad side of Wildshape is the shit AC so you'll be playing a sneaky striker even as a huge fuck off huge bear.
but yea it's nowhere near the bullshit tabletop 3e version.
>>
>>739324694
>Tavern brawler bullshit
They've actually fixed Taven Brawler for Wildshapes?
>>
>>739299153
The fuck are you talking about? Loot remaining viable due them focusing on varying effects is one of the best parts of the game.
>>
I remember being very close to buying early access and then read an interview by a dev talking about how your party will randomly fuck eachother and cuck you and I completely lost all enthusiasm to ever play
>>
>>739327526
You shouldn't buy early access anyways but that is not a thing that actually happens.
>>
>>739288098
It was a decent Div2 style romp through the Forgotten Realms but for me it doesn't even come close to the BG1&2 experiences.
>>
>>739288098
i did hear about it, but not so much.

that is really weird, considering it was in early access, it was already available for people to play but it was only after it won and influencers started to promote it that it became big.
>>
>>739329574
I don't think it's all that weird that a company blows its marketing budget after they ironed out the issues discovered in early access.
>>
>>739290230

i think you would be better playing a linear on trails baby game sir.
>>
>>739327526
Jokes on you the game released and it turns out literally every one of the party characters is obsessed with fucking your brains out, and from like the first hour of the game they're like this. It's honestly fucking weird.
>>
>>739288098
You'd have to follow the axiom that RPG "games" are kikery rubbish pushed to make video games as a whole worse. Most of this board is <70 IQ however
