got one for porn. 2021-2023 was pretty decent for it, but there has been an absolute drought for a couple years. seriously, 0 vr porn is being produced today. porn sites are literally adding "remasters" of old vr porn videos, if that doesn't tell you vr is dead in the water I don't what does

>>
>>739309134
That's dire.
But it's understandable, only retard would pay for porn. That's why phonefags are the main target audience.
>>
>>739309659
it's not about paying for it. with a Quest 2 or 3 you can easily upload whatever videos you torrent.

the issue is production. all those porn site conglomerates pay studios with names like "dog fart" to get a steady stream of stuff. Probably mid 2024 I started to realize that there were no new vr torrents showing up. if you go to one of these sites now and look at the previews you can see why, all the videos show posted 2+ years ago. it's like the entire industry jumped ship

It totally is, there's absolutely no difference, they are not even shy about it, they have Psychologists studying people, using their to add "new features", each game has their own "forum" which are prominently used btw, so yeah, same thing.
>>
>>739311790
*using their research
>>
>>739311138
Well, you have to have a steam account in order to buy the steam frame in the first place. The oculus was available on regular online stores.
>>

>>
>>739312048
>I can't tell if you are either agreeing or disagreeing with me
I'm doing neither, because I'm only replying to your reply to my post with simple information. Your only requirement for the frame to work is a steam account, which you obviously need to even order one.

>>739312149
NTA

>What is it then?
An online video game store.

>you can add "friends", talk to them, talk to people on forums and blog posts, post pictures, give community "awards".
That doesn't make it into a social media. Online forums often have all of that and they are just that, a forum, not social media.
Social media is like Facebook or twitter. It's a place where the focus is on spending your time browsing some algorithmic feed that tries to match random posts to your interests and make you comment/engage with random unstructured shit people output.
>>
>>739312149
it's a gaming platform
because the "social" part is completely optional
>>
>>739312347
And to use Steam VR too and its own new drivers, so same thing as the other headset.
>>739312512
You are not required to do any of that either, create account, set it to private and done and just because the focus is different doesn't mean Steam isn't social media, it having a store doesn't negate that.
>>
>>739312538
And who is forcing you to engage in the social part on meta? You can just use it to buy games and play online if you want to, it's the same thing.
>>
>>739312654
>because the focus is different doesn't mean Steam isn't social media
Agreed. Like I said, social media is a place where you spend your time browsing some algorithmic feed that tries to match random posts to your interests and make you comment/engage with random unstructured shit people output
>>
>>739312743
I wouldn't know, I never used any of their platforms or products

I tried a Quest 2. I was immediately unimpressed by the low FOV and resolution, which kills of any and all immersion. Furthermore, there are no games for it. I tried ED, but it kept crashing every 5 minutes and I couldn't get the controllers to let me control my player character. When I did get it stable, I tried driving a rover around in the hopes that it would make me feel like an astronaut on some distant moon, but the feeling wasn't there for the aforementioned reasons. I then tried VR loli sex, and it was exciting the first couple of times, but I quickly got bored of that. Now it sits in my cupboard collecting dust. VR is a meme.

You brought up the requirement to have an account as an argument to prove that Steam is a social media. This falls short as you realize that most online services require accounts and they aren't really social media.

>Why are you so scared of admitting Steam is social media?
I see no reason to state that Steam is a social media. Like I've mentioned twice already, unlike typical social media like facebook and twitter, steam lacks algorithmic feed that tries to match random posts to your interests and make you comment/engage with random unstructured shit people output. It's literally just a game store that also has DMs and structured forums for games. No screaming in void for sake of engagement.

When a VR game is well designed it's peak gaming.
When a VR game is basically just you standing still pressing buttons it's abysmal dogshit.
Sadly most VR games lean towards the latter now. Unless you're VRChat or simracing pilled, there isn't much to play. Maybe one day we'll leave the software drought, VR's inherently cool. Potential medium.

>why don't you own a vr headset?
>it's a whole new gaming experience

I tried one at a convention and wasn't impressed. It seemed like a totally pointless gimmick that added nothing to a game. Add to that the fact that it's very expensive and requires a lot of empty space for the motion controls to work, as well as the grand total of zero good games with VR support, and it's just not worth it. Not even close.

You can try again after you've met the following targets:
>there are enormous 10/10 RPGs with VR support and tits
>vr goggles cost $99 at most, weigh nothing and cause no nausea, headaches or other side effects

>pointless gimmick that added nothing to a game
For me it makes shooters super immersive with manual reloading and aiming. I love how high the skill ceiling is. It's like a better version of paintball.
>very expensive
On the low end it's about $400 which is quite reasonable.
>requires a lot of empty space
It requires about 3x3 feet of floor space with a bit extra around you so you don't punch anything. You don't need an empty room.
>there are enormous 10/10 RPGs
Well there's Skyrim VR, but we are lacking in well implemented VR ports. There are lots of VR mods but they tend to be hack jobs that barely function.
>vr goggles cost $99 at most, weigh nothing
This is an unreasonable expectation.
>cause no nausea, headaches or other side effects
Unsolvable short of culling the lower lifeforms.
>I can use a regular controller
Why would you want to play a VR game with a regular controller?
>>
>>739319112
anon one of the first VR RPGS is modded skyrim which is enormous and has all the tits you can mod into it. If you mean third person or turn based RPGS, probably because you mean seated with a controller, you can use UEVR to play expedition 33. You're not likely to get sick from a third person game. I'm not an RPG guy so I don't know what else is out there. There could be PS2 emulation VR plugin for all I know. Or if you mean immersive sim RPG, system shock 2 remake is getting a VR Mod.

But 99$ headset worth using is smoking crack so you'll be waiting on that forever.
>>
>>739320081
>Why would you want to play a VR game with a regular controller?

I want to use a regular controller because that is scientifically the best way to play any videogame. Once you have found the best way you should not replace it with garbage.
>>
>>739320685
Usually people mod skyrim to get 6dof controls working but just vanilla skyrim in third person would be fine for you. Playing first person with a controller isn't my thing but some people do it

Third person VR mods suck ass due to all the involuntary camera work. It's not the same as a third person VR game like Lucky's Tale, Moss, or Astro Bot.

I think there's good stuff but let's not overhype mods that barely function and dll injections. It's cool if you recommend it, but don't present it as an idiot proof or comfortable experience.

VR needs more flatscreen ports with seated + gamepad mode for the fatties. No one likes gimmicky controls for guns/swords/bows outside games like Superhot.
Modern racing games also need native VR support. The fact that Forza Horizon 6 doesn't is a fucking crime.
>>
>>739326362
Yeah, like you still need an iron gut because the fancy camera work jerks your head around. It's sad because it's so close to a decent experience but it requires further modding onto the camera logic which people typically don't do.

Best VR mods are still first person or cockpit, imo. I'm hoping the Steam Frame's ABXY layout makes flat mods more natural to play, because reimagining the controls seems to be the biggest layer of jank.
>>
>>739326386
You see glimpses of other genres with stuff like STRIDE, but those devs didn't understand how to make a campaign. It's so sad to know Mirror's Edge *can* work in VR but the problem is having the rest of DICE with you (artists, level designers, etc)

People say this but then Borderlands 2 VR and Fallout 4 VR were hated by the whole scene, and those are of higher quality than most flatscreen ports.

There's no manual reloading, the iron sihts don't match up with the guns, not even the crosshair is accurate and they gutted co-op, no two handed options, the hand models don't even match how you're holding the gun
THEY REMOVED CO-OP FROM BORDERMEME THE ONLY REASON TO PLAY BORDERMEMELANDS

People like the top 1% of VR ports like RE4VR, but most flatscreen ports are complete junk. You can up the magnitude but it doesn't change the fact that only like one maybe two studios can be trusted with the task.

moar ports isn't the answer, they won't even make a profit. They need to be so good they are basically made-for-vr level. Doable, but few studios can.

>>

>>
>>739328484
The answer is to put in less work. Rather than going part way with a shooter no one will be happy with, just slap VR support into a 3rd person platformer or similar games and make some minor camera adjustments and call it a day. A lot of modded games I've played mostly just work by adding in snap turning aside from cut scenes and should be fairly easy for the developer to clean up more. I like motion controls, but I am also more than happy just to play a regular game with VR and it would increase the likelihood that I would buy it if it were officially supported to cut back on jank even a little.
>>
>>739332565
I think this would make enthusiasts satisfied (us) but filter anyone that doesn't have super human levels of jank tolerance. It's no replacement for a good VR focused talent pool, sadly.

I'm all for it, more software granted. I'd recommend picking up a PSVR1 or PSVR2 where they had the greatest amount of flatscreen ports.
>>

Use 3D converters. All porn is VR porn. 2d to 3d converted widescreen aspect ratio is better than most 180 vr porn. Plus if you're 180 vr porn isn't 3d it can upgrade it to 3d

Shotguns that are not auto are a problem in all vr games. I think some devs started making them suck on purpose so we stop using them. Not gonna happen

I was thinking of picking one up for simracing, but even a used quest 3 is like $300 and with the stunt Valve pulled with the steam controller I have no faith the index will be any better priced.
>>
>>739314458
Its almost as if an entire industry is relying on steam not being designated as social media for whatever they were planning
>>
>>739334529
nta what jank though what are you guys talking about straight flat to 3d hook engines never game me any trouble I've not experienced anything except for things that do highjack motion controls never work. Most of the time I'm using my headset as a 3d monitor with a roller. UE4VR,Vorpx, reshade depth3d all work without much tinkering.

>steam lacks algorithmic feed that tries to match random posts
Social media existed before the algorithm did. In fact that's probably why "traditional" social media is no longer social media

Steam has nothing to gain by becoming social media. Social media make money by serving ads and possibly mass selling user data. Steam makes money selling games. No one will pay them to promote posts about local bakery to gamers, of whom 99% don't even look at anything but their library page and friends chat.

>>739335187
The feed was always there, even if the algorithm was simple.

Re4vr sucked compared to the vr modded resident evils. I actually refunded the game and it was on deep sale.

>>739304014
Because there's only one real game for it (half life alyx) and I already played it 5 years ago.

You think gamers dont like baked goods lol

Have they made a good VR game yet? Last I checked the only worthwhile use-cases were for flight and racing simulators.

I still have a pretty busted but usable Oculus Rift CV1 around here. Had to jury rig the fuck out of it with tape because the head strap is partly broken, and one of the headphones stopped working too, so I removed them and am using regular headphones. Wanna upgrade to the Meta Quest 3, but I can't justify the $300 price for how little I even use VR.

Then why are onlyfans and pornhub and twitch thots making so much money?

Sweaty, uncomfortable, isolating trash.

I made a ghetto magnetic stock that I think works well for shotguns. Similar to the 3d printed magnetic stocks you can find but with the entire "receiver" being one metal tube that both controllers snap onto. So the front controller slides back and forth with some resistance to reload, and comes off to put the shells in.
>>
>>739337608
For shotguns I prefer the nooblaki style for the foregrip. Instead of magnetic its just a piece of plastic to hold the controller against that activates the grip button. Easier to throw nades and reload also.

Bro got a wideheadass TV. Got that 16000:9 aspect ratio. Bro be the center of the squad and knocks everyone down when he turn they head.

very confusing what games are on what sets, lack of backwards compatibility, high cost, most things are just 30 min to 1 hour "experiences", anything but an fps or plane/space shooter or racing game doesnt really work well. even then, fps games have severe limits due to control scheme. you can really use two hand weapons
>>
>>739304014
But I do, I bought my vive just the other day, I'm sure they'll be good games soon!

My wife won a meta quest at a work party. It was fun for a month. Population 1. Some medieval arena game. One of the boxing games. Eventually I got tired of moving the furniture to make space.

Do you guys primarily use it sitting down or in a big room? I don't really have a lot of space to work with, so I don't think it's gonna happen. I also get motion sick if I'm doing something like reading/watching a video in a car so I think I'm too genetically inferior too use VR. I don't get sick on roller coasters or anything else though.
>>

>>739339220
Wait for steam frame (like a month its looking like if it doesn't insta sell out) but its got pancake lenses like the quest 3 which seems to be the key to avoid eye strain and motion sickness compared to last gens.

Also you will only last like 20 mins before getting sick for that first like week. It should like double everyday until its no longer an issue within a week or 2 for most people
>>
>>739339145
Sounds like the furniture is the problem

standing in a small room, but on a mat so I know if i'm stood on the mat i'm not going to be able to punch a wall
>>
>>739339220
One of the reasons why I've chosen my current rented aparment is because it has large living room with half of it entirely empty. So I can play proper room scale vr without worrying about hitting things. Unless it's sitting game like Elite or something.
It's normal to feel sick after half a hour or something playing game with continuous movement. The nausea gets more tolerable the more you play.
>>
>>739339220
I used to play room scale but I'd always end up hugging a wall and it was harder to figure out where I was, now I just use standing.
>>
>vr
you have like 2 options, meta shit which is locked to their fucking garbage botnet or a selection of trash with half missing features and "lol i dunno bro" compatibility
so while valves upcoming frame isnt great technically it does have the advantage of being supported by anything on steam out of the box with no bullshit locked hardware but its almost like the apple headset in that its trying to replace a traditional monitor rather than just be a vr toy
