not even the cheapest chinesium shit does this. actually a major design flaw that's going to cause a mass recallBRAVO VALVE!
i love consumer electronics meant for entertainment that are at high risk for starting house fires
I just tried it and it didn't do anything. Sorry but this is anti valve and thus anti consumer fear mongering

Nice photoshop but I just tried it and nothing is ha
>>739321668it's a normal reaction to be afraid of trannies
>>739321668Not being beholden to shareholders is extremely antisemitic.
What's with the puck anyway? PS5 doesn't need one and it connects to PC without a puck. Same with Xbox controllers.
>>739321584
>>739321668Privately held company. That means instatutional investors don't get a cut of their profits and Blackrock can't order them to make things lame and gay
>>739321009>This is exactly the kind of issue UL or ETL safety testing is designed to catch. A charger with exposed, energized contacts that can short against metal would fail UL/ETL 62368‑1 immediately. I’ve checked for any UL or ETL listings for the puck and can’t find any. Valve does have FCC filings, but FCC certification only covers radio emissions and interference, not electrical safety. Unless Valve publishes a UL or ETL file number, it appears the puck wasn’t independently safety‑certified.uh oh
>>739321886The puck is a 2.4ghz receiver and charger in one. It's the equivalent of the Xbox or Dualshock 4 USB adapters. Provides way better latency than bluetooth and allows the use of a controller's full features on PC wirelessly, like the headphone jack.
>>739321009Don't care, still sticking my tongue on 9v batteries.
>>739321886>PS5 doesn't need one and it connects to PC without a puckVia bluetooth, which has terrible latency. It's also really nice to just set it on the puck to charge after you're done playing instead of plugging it in.

>>739321668They just need to blow off some steam.
>reddit screenshotkysBut you're right that there will probably be some kind of recall and trade-in program. However, it will probably just for the puck, not the controller. This is the type of thing that could be prevented pretty easily but obviously wasn't accounted for. There's also basically no laws for this type of thing, so a recall would purely be a cover-your-ass move on Valve's part, and not something they'd be required to do. A lot of USB stuff isn't even UL listed, and the puck isn't either, and retailers still carry those things because they're seen as harmless low-voltage trinkets. But you can find actual arc lighters like that on Amazon and stuff.
>>739321009>go into a rabbit hole checking OP's other posts>they're jewish>they have criticized valve in the past
Use case for smart watches?
>>739321009I don't even like Valve but if you put metal on metal contacts that are connected to an electric source then you only got yourself to blame. This is akin to sticking a fork in the outlet on the wall
I almost never believe, "My electronics caught fire for no reason!!!" because they're always leaving out something really stupid. They were charging with that one cable everyone with an iPhone has, you know the one, the strain relief is gone, there's about 6 inches of exposed conductors, and you have to twist and hold it a certain way for it to work. Or they were cooking a pizza on the hotplate they keep all their electronics on after smoking 2 lbs of pot and fell asleep. Or the the thing looks like it got gang raped by a pack of angle grinders so of course the battery exploded, it was literally cut in half.

>>739323024Just for the record, yes this is THAT Rothschild.
>>739323028It's a real thing. Almost everyone in the US gets their health insurance from their employer (or their spouse/parent's employer). Really big companies often provide health insurance plans where the insurance company offers a discounted premium (the amount you pay monthly out of your paycheck for the health insurance) if you wear a smart watch that tracks your steps. The insurance companies ostensibly do it because people with higher steps are less fat and therefore carry less risk of utilizing their health insurance. But also, they partner with specific fitness apps and/or smartwatch makers to get some kind of kickback when people use the devices on their plans. The end result is lots of middle-age corpo wageslaves wearing fitbits and complaining about needing to get their "steps" every day.
>>739321009Puck doubling as a chat rger was always a retarded idea.If you need to charge the controller, you just disconnect the puck and insert the USB into the controller. Why the fuck did they need to add charging functionality into the puck? Such a stupid idea. I don't care that some slow retard did a stupid around a puck with exposed contactsMy issue with the steam controller is compatibility, as it's already proven to me by my own testing that if I find a game -on steam- that requires steam input to be disabled for the controller to work properly, like KCD (sure you can tell me all about how it should be played with a keyboard and mouse, but this gamepad is supposed to be a better replacement than others, innit?) >>739350209You can do either way.Part of the reason the puck is detatchable like it is, is so you can connect it to a host device over Type A or C connectors and the charging pins would theoretically reduce strain on the USB-C port on the controller itself.
>>739350209Why did they put the exposed part on the thing that can get in contact with something else anyway

I checked the manual and this is what it said.>Magnetic parts may attract metallic items. To reduce the potential risk of sparks and resulting property damage or possible injury, make sure that the wireless adapter and charging puck and Controller are free of metallic objects before connecting.
>>739340372>passive agressive tone>reddit reaction imageYou act like you are somehow magically right, for uhh reasons. But care to explain why should someone care about what you feel or think?Like why are you entitled for someone to care about your thoughts and feelings? Why do they actually matter? And why random people somehow and for no reasons owe you a free fucks? So could you actually care to explain that?

>>739321009>Metallic smartwatch strapOn one hand, Valve should've have the pogo pins recessed a little bit more than that. Even 8bitdo's controller docks solved the issue because they look for a specific resistivity feedback from the controller's contacts before charging. On the other, smartwatches are nigger technology and making a metallic watch strap at all is even more niggardly.
>>739327275I also use the same casio but I'm not allowed to wear it at work. PG&E has a whole powerpoint on why employees can't wear any non-work accessories while working in the field.
>>739322357I like to control my music on it, and read texts. Kind of have to want to use it to make it worth it. Otherwise it's also just a watch, if you're actually working and don't want to be pulling your phone out all the time to check the time it can be handy.
Watches are for normalfags, including smartwatches. Ultra normalfags will wear regular watches though to look suave and sophisticated like they're a Mad Men character in the 1920's because that is a fantasy lifestyle for men apparently. To wear a suit every day, go work in a high-rise office, and eat steak and drink wine every night. Sounds boring.
I've been trying this with a bunch of different metallic shit even an old smart watch strap but nothing seems to be doing anything
I don't understand why Valve couldn't find a more "elegant" solution to this shit. But the puck is actually genius>Plugs very quickly and effortlessly>Only takes 1 USB port as opposed to 2 or 1 charger + receiver connected to PC>Doesn't wear out the USB-C port (which the gamepad also includes)Someone could say "well I can't put the receiver behind my computer tower and never see it without connecting an extra cable" but this is better practice if you want a decent signalAlso the included USB cable is pretty much kink free, which is rare to see unless you specifically shop for it (and I've been trying to find these fuckers)
>>739321662Usually there are handshakes before live current is delivered.
>>739354772>which is rare to seeBuy silicone cables.
>>739355398I bought a few silicone cables and they're still pretty kinky (heh), I'm not sure where to find really good ones. I bought a TS101 soldering iron (which isn't too bad but obviously it's not a soldering station) and you can pretty much roll the cable around your fingers with no effort.
>>739322357Unironically this is one of the more practical and genuinely useful 'smart' devices since it's a mini smartphone on your wrist that can monitor excercise and health stuff if you care about that.If you're paranoid about biometrics data being used I'm sure there's a schizo watch you can buy or whatever.

>>739357931I mentioned that in reply to a>symmetrical is badfaggot the other dayThe type of thumb motion you're dealing with in this case is radial abduction. The ergonomic range for that is between the proximal and distal phalangae (big index finger joint and fingertip). This is why the PlayStation controller is not ergonomic for stick use, thumb drifts too far.In contrast, the Steam Controller positions both sticks, the d-pad, and face buttons along the ergonomic range of the axis.It may just be the perfect controller layout.

>>739362706Neat, thank you. Sounds great, except for the app, but since the 3rd party ones sound like they solve that issue it's no biggie.
Why are steamies melting down 24/7 recently?
>>739333000Why not just plug it out and only use it when you need to recharge the controller?
>>739333000So what's the solution? I guess it's less of an issue for the 8bitdo because it's quite hard for anything to accidentally contact it given the cradle shape. Quite easy for the puck to contact something though.>>739363538That's incredibly inconvenient.
>>739364085>So what's the solution? The reddit OP electrocuted his puck with his watch charger, so the solution is to not do that.

>go find this post>the faggot who made it is now coping all over the multimeter thread about how he totally never implied the puck was at fault!Reddit was legitimately a mistake. This faggot fried his shit through a retarded setup caused by ground sharing, and he implied the issue was with the puck when in fact literally anything with a fucking ground connection over USB could've done this. And now it'll be known forever that "the puck is dangerous" because redditors read one comment and will never update the groupthink.
>>739364659>>739364930Actually I've thought of a solution. This is a design flaw, so it should be addressed. At first I thought an induction style system would be better, like phones use, but that would be very expensive.I think the cheapest way for them to fix this is to create a 'lock and key' plastic mould. Where you have the puck right now, it has the contacts on a raised area. Around that raised area, there should be a raised plastic lip of moulding. There should be an equal indentation to that raised plastic moulding on the steam controller. This should mean that when something is put flat on the puck, nothing should contact the copper pins. It's an easy solution. They'll likely need to move the charging pins a little on the controller though.

>>739321009Serves the homo right for having a "smart watch".
>>739365170It's literally not an issue anyone who isn't retarded will ever encounter. It's a combination of about a million errors.First, a cheap dogshit smartwatch that grounds through the case. Second, an aftermarket strap for this smartwatch that's also conductive. Third, running both USB leads from the same shitty charger, instead of plugging your puck into your PC. Fourth, keeping these things next to each other on your desk. There are probably another half a dozen issues this guy created, but these are just the most obvious ones.
