First of all, there are delapitated ancient ruins in the game, and they aren't fucking ores embedded in stone, they are walls you can salvage.
Second of all, you can dig "steel ore" from fucking underground.
Meanwhile vanilla Rimworld doesn't even have real iron ore, or metal smelting.
It never made any sense and the fact it was never changed is madness.
>>
I've never seen a single game with bronze ore. Are you making shit up?

Lower skill means you make more mistakes when mining so you get less. It's like how irl if you aren't good at eating, you can "eat" a cheeseburger, even though you aren't eating the whole burger. Early on, it might take 3 cheeseburgers to equal one actual cheeseburger.

Turns out simulating mining in a video game with abstract time-based channeling bars is a far more comfy experience than actually going deep underground into a dark, sweltering hot tunnel with methane pockets waiting to explode and bury you in your dedicated retard profession tomb. It's a drastically better game if you play it with a friend, that way you can split activities between digging in one direction, setting up society at the base with farming/item sorting etc. Single player it's a big drag, and the leveling of skills is awful. Combat stats are stacked towards just shooting shit or stabbing it, if you use summoning or magic you just suffer forever. But with a friend it's a lot more tolerable.

Realistic answer, it's because the people making the games don't know that stuff like Bronze or Steel are actually supposed to be alloys.
Either that, or it's purely for the sake of not having to add in metal smelting which could possibly clog up the crafting system with even more steps.
Or third, they have smelting, but also have Bronze and Steel ores because they just don't give a shit.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thief_(series)
>>
>>739328326
The point is that there are no mechanics for smelting iron from ore and turning it to steel, which is a process and a half. You mean to tell me an established colony would rely on salvaging magic steel structures forever instead of actual mine for iron ore that would last for way longer?
>>
Now I think about it it's weird Factorio has no Gold given it's very good as conductor material.

You can also mine mechanical parts and plasteel which is some high tech compound that you can't even recreate. It's clearly supposed to be compacted scrap metal.

That's basically the only thing it is used for, and copper wires already exist. Go play overhauls if you want 17 precursors to produce the basic tier circuit

there is a distinct lack of an insulator in the chain though, just one would be fine. you can't make a circuit out of just conductors.

I'm mad silver isn't treated like one of the coolest things ever in video games
>whitest pure metal
>most reflective pure metal
>most conductive pure metal
>natural antimicrobial agent completely safe to humans
>can tone to be nearly the entire visible color spectrum
>beautiful ringing sound, high end flutes and other wind instruments use it for better sound
>can actually explode, many fireworks use silver fulminate
>has a freely exchangeable reaction with hydrogen sulfide, enormous fuel source potential
>just looks fuckin cool
Minecraft STILL doesn't have silver in it! What a disgrace! Like look at this old silver coin. Is that not a sickass coin? Why doesn't vidya capitalize on it?

Silver and gold are both "friendly" metals, soft, non-toxic, and as you note silver is antimicrobial while gold has a number of therapeutic properties.

Most every other metal is toxic in some way, some like mercury so much that even a small exposure will kill you. And of course steel is dangerous.

People tend to be confused why we put so much value on "the shinies", but I think their historical value comes from the medicinal, non-toxic aspect most.

The modern price is definitely inflated, like diamonds. But ot would be interesting to know what gold would actually be worth in pure supply/demand in terms of it's usefulness as a conductor and in medical technology.

That's just called having a stable gut microbiome. You probably got breastfed which is where 90% of that is seeded from.

Humans aren't supposed to count calories. The whole system is supposed to be self-regulating.

My advice, stay far away from antibiotics unless it's life threatening.
>>
>>739356525
Gold yes, Silver no. It was funny as fuck last year when silver was $120 an ounce, Shanghai was buying like crazy and refiners were refusing anything but completely pure bars from reputable assayers. It doesn't have a cartel driving the price up, it has a cartel driving the price down. It's complicated. Personally I like it because coins are dope, and it's pretty.
You're right on toxicity and practicality, something like Stainless steel utensils is a very recent invention. For millennia you either had silverware as a family heirloom investment, or you had to use shitty iron/wooden cutlery that would degrade quickly. That's completely lost on people now, robbers used to raid kitchens for silverware, not living rooms for game consoles.

Funny game balance thing that real life gold is so easy to harvest you can do it by wading in a shallow river with a metal pan, but it's always copper or iron that you mine first in video games.

Realism is always an excuse to waste the player's time. As soon as it would benefit the player to have vast quantities of untouched ore or kitchens and pantries full of food in zombie games there's mysteriously little to be found.

It's like how some people will just take a few bites of a chicken wing and consider it eaten, so they'd need to "finish" more wings to feel full.

You just fucked up with the food choice, the only way you can fuck up eating a burger is if all the contents fall out, and imo that's usually the result of a burger having shitty construction and/or way too much sauce which makes everything slick.

For me like 10 cheeseburgers equals one cheeseburger my fatass retard skill is overmaxxed, like how in the old MMORPG Ultima Online you could go over 100% of your skill limit with special artifacts and magic. I'm like 150% fatass

Too men like me, Crowbar is considered a thin kpop boy band.

>game's mining and refinement system isn't autistic enough for me to keep engaged

Why even have it? Just to waste people's time with some chore task in order to pad out playtime? I miss when people spent time on trying to make every aspect of a game an actual well, you know, errrrm, game!

If you're a game developer looking at this fuck you nigger AIDS nigger faggot nigger nigger nigger black son of a bitch I caste a hex on you reading these words binds you to my artificial reality tunnel in which you hallucinate your own normal life overlaid upon a hellish realm forever and ever! and ever! A dastardly fate of misery and death is all you'll ever have in existence and you will be damned to it for eternal eternities! every iteration of existence from here on out will forever more be a hell upon hells for you and your kin, all gods have abandoned you and your pleas will be met with an agony so pure that it bends and defies the capacity of your minds!

is this what he meant?
>if you aren't good at eating
weird but ok
>you can "eat" a cheeseburger, even though you aren't eating the whole burger.
so since you aren't good at eating, you can't eat the whole burger. like you take a few bites but you aren't "good" at eating so you can't finish the whole burger because you got full or something because you suck at eating
>Early on,
I guess this implies that later on you get better at eating cheeseburgers? so are we talking about being a baby and trying to eat a cheeseburger or something?
>it might take 3 cheeseburgers to equal one actual cheeseburger.
so it might take you 3 separate attempts at eating cheeseburgers to eat the same amount as 1 full cheeseburger, with all of the bites you took from the 3 cheeseburgers being equal to 1 full cheeseburger combined.

nigga you learn in like middle school that copper + tin = bronze
>>
To be fair it's hard to put ores in video games that match their real-world performances and also fit a standard progression system.
Copper and tin are easy to work with, and kinda shitty on their own. But bronze is great.
The iron age comes after the bronze age, but iron is SHIT compared to bronze, and much harder to extract. The only advantage is that it's "mildly" more common — somewhere between 100x and 1000x. But then you can turn it into steel using carbon (even cheaper!) to make something better than bronze at everything, but that requires real smithing infrastructure and techniques.
All the metals are a confusing mix of quality and technological requirements like this. Aluminium is even more common than iron but is REALLY complex to extract (until you figure it out). Titanium is really sick and not too rare but did you know? We first managed to extract it in 1910! It's only 116 years old! And we all know gold and silver are incredibly rare, but easy to process and useless for weapons or armour, which is all most games care about.

All this stuff is great if you have an autismcore game like Gregtech. But a normal game HAS to lie about this somewhere or else it'd be stupid. Blindly chasing realism is just something you do when you don't have any creativity of your own, anyhow. Bring on the bronze ore, I say.
