It doesent matter if you get all your favorite characters recreated perfectly by a drawing script, it's all the same 5 dreams, tripping, getting frozen and 5 minigames. Married Mii's take ages to make an offspring, which is basically just the same slideshow over and over. There is next to no quirks. There is almost no decorations. Game is poorly balanced so afeter 2 weeks you basically have everything unlocked from wishing well. The only thing that keeps me playing for 10 minutes a day is checking what "new" outfits there are in the store. It's mostly new colors that you have to buy separately to unlock them.

They're repetitive, make very little sense in a social sim, happen constantly, and you don't even have the luxury of skipping them like friendship events. You can ignore them, but it seems to take longer for Miis to snap out that compared to waiting for them to stop wanting to play games or get your attention. There's like three scenes for them too, none of which are affected by Mii personalities.

Mapping is done in a retarded way so it's difficult to draw on objects. No layers. You can't even make complex shapes, so at best you can create an invisible wall if you want to make an arch.

>>739328159I don't know why they let you make a bunch of custom shit but it all looks super jarring. even pasting a mii's head directly and picking the exact skin tone for an outfit doesn't work because for some reason clothing is illuminated completely differently than the mii itself. and custom buildings all look flat and shitty, there aren't enough shapes to really make anything too dynamic, the collision is weird and its hard to really pair multiple buildings up with eachother. the treasures are mixed too, the stuff like albums or games kind of fuck you over in the shadow quiz since they're all built the same and its a little lame you can't at least make a shitty animal crossing-style tune for the music. just feels really undercooked.
I'm still playing, mostly just checking on the clothing shop and watching my miis for a while.

Lack of custom content sharing killed the creator -> downloader cycle of people making what they wanted, and others downloading what they liked seeing. The fact both playerbases were able to coexist in Miitopia and how long the threads on that game thrived proved how well that system worked.There's also the factor that for a game that was originally very casual and pick up and play, there's far more commitment involved in doing the basics since the game is so heavily reliant on user generated content-- from the islanders to the items to even the island itself. I feel like the developers expected players to make literally everything in their game using the facepaint/drawing editor, because a lot of content in 3DS and even DS have been removed that don't make much sense (for example, color variants for gakurans, various headgear like cat ears etc. with the latter having promo facepaint showcase custom ears instead). Despite this focus on UGC, the editor itself is worse than its predecessor, with Tomodachi's facepaint being small 256x256 images upscaled with heavy artifacting, and custom Mii faces can't express unlike Miitopia's 1024x1024 makeup faces that express flawlessly. There's also very little in the way of prebuilt content island builder-wise, so you're stuck having to either commit to basic looking islands or the crusty jpegged custom model houses. In general, this means is that you have to commit far more time into creating in order to get to the actual lifesim aspect, rather than simply popping in to check up like the past games, and I think this turned off people who just wanted to play more casually.A lot of features also got cut between the shift from 3DS -> LtD, in a death of a thousand cuts way. Standalone, the cuts made between entries aren't that big of a deal, but they add up into making the game feel very uninteractive.I still like it despite all that.
