i just beat GTA III for the first time. what was my honest opinon?
I think games like it prove that your game doesn't need to be 150 hours long, have huge open world empty spaces that serve zero purpose, or have a billion collectibles to be a fun game. You can just make a fun game.
>>739331989Isn’t GTA 3 way harder if you don’t spend loads of time getting all the collectibles?
>>739332116all collectibles give you is free weapons right? you can easily buy all the guns you need with the money you make from completing missions.
you thought that the vehicles seriously needed more health because they kept catching on fire after two hits.
>>739332180Plus infinite sprint and police bribes
i never found a mr whopee
>>739332627They're rare to spawn but I swear I see them more around where the trapped Mr Whoopee is for that one mission. Also I think you can fail that mission and just take the ice cream truck to the lockup.
>>739332116>way harderWith the exception of the ambulance missions, its all actually fun to do.Collecting packages were also fun at the time as it gave you a reason to fully explore the map. Though now just follow a guide. All of it was optional though
>>739332627i think one is parked somewhere
>>739332627probably easier to get it in the story mission and abort the mission then take it to the garage, but that wont work after the game is over.i assume you also didn't want to use a guide, which i respect.
>>739332776>>739333276i assumed it was either the ice cream truck, or some random van parked somewhere with the word whoopee written on it. i actually drove around the houses on the third island thinking that would be a logical place for an ice cream truck to shill ice cream. but since i didnt know what exactly i was looking for i just gave up and finished the game.
>>739333213i never understood why new GTAs removed the kill frenzies. it gave a reason to explore and was fun. i also think they never should have removed the spinning hidden packages that you could find, should have bumped that up by ten fold and made the rewards unlocking various safe houses around the map (if free weapons/money was too imbalanced, if that was the reason they were removed).(shooting pigeons or taking photographs didn't do it for me, i want to pick up floating and rotating packages)
>>739333681san andreas had a ton of spinning shit and nobody collected them
>>739333681games were trying to stop being "games" around 08, so everything was getting as realistic as possible. "video game ass video games" are coming back though, and i think realism fatigue, and roguelikes have been doing a lot of the heavy lifting, by being as video gamey as possible. i always hated games trying not to be games. big floating dumb video game objects are the best.

>That was a well plotted piece of non-claptrap that never made me want to wretch
>>739333896SA was too big to find them all naturally and seeing they were different in each area of the game as well as the game is fast moving wanting you to move on from one area to the next you never really spend any time exploring an area.Think about it, every one of the 3 cities have different collectables and then there are the clams for under water. All while you are doing the story missions that are moving you round the map.In 3 and then VC you had 1 type of collectable, it was the same in each section of the map so you knew what to look out for and it encouraged you to explore.SA also had so much traversal options it was impossible to tell if a collectable was on a building, under water, on the ground. So again, not fun to find naturally.like this anon said>>739334114GTA started trying to be a realism simulator with SA, doubling down with 4 and then evening out with V. Though I dont agree that GTA6 will go back to being gamey, It will increase in realism sim stuff.V had rampages, just you could only do them as trevor.Thing is with old GTA, GTA3 is coming off of 1 and 2 where money in that game is points really like old school games.VC then made money feel like athing you need and use and then SA, well they tried that but it is the one game out of them all where money becomes extremely trivial.4 and V money "meant something" where it was used to buy shit. GTAO went even further.Point I am getting at is the old school points as rewards is gone in GTA. So to is playing GTA for the fun of going on crime spree.Shit GTAV I dont even think i went on crime sprees, which used to be the only point or only fun of playing GTA.Didn't help that the wanted system is shit and the army doesnt come for you.
>>739334446People love SA and while it's very memorable and all, something just sticks in my head with 3 and VC. I have no idea what it is. Particularly 3. Just feels groundbreaking when I put myself into a 2001 headspace again.
>>739333896only oysters and horseshoes were floating-spinning things.>nobody collected themyeah ok buddy.true for horseshoes i guess since there was little point in exploring under water.
>>739334893>true for horseshoestrue for oysters i mean, of course
>>739332627If you missed the one from the mission you can get it by doing vigilante/firefighter since the target vehicles include a bunch of rare ones for whatever reason
>>7393346673 is grundbreaking, its one of the most influential games ever made and the environment has this sort of unique vibe to it, dark, gritty that makes it feel like a real place. The game is clearly made with soul where even the music adds to the tone.VC, clearly rushed and while also great and has its own vibe it didnt have the same love as 3 did.SA was a rushed mess, its buggy as fuck and while the whole LA hip hop 90s vibe was good at the beginning, as soon as you leave LS, CJ is a fish out of water doing negro shit around people he should not even be communicating with that the game drops off in quality massively.
>>739331885You think it’s woke and Jewish and gay because there’s niggers in it.
>>739335265there's only one i think
>Asuka:Claude you won't believe someone killed my brother Kenji!...
I POKE MY HEAD OUTTA THE GUTTER FOR ONE FREAKIN' SECOND, AND FATE OFFERS TO SHOVEL MY SHIT IN ITS FACE
>>739332627In the original Ps2 and Xbox version, Mr. Whoopees were extremely rare spawns. They're quite a bit more common in the PC version though from my experience. The easiest way to get them to spawn is just by doing the Firefighter mission until you get one that's on fire, extinguish it, then just take it to the garage. They spawn on all 3 islands so you could do this at the very start of the game if you wanted.
>>739332116not really, all getting the hidden packages does is spawn free weapons near your save points and you have plenty of money to always refill at ammu-nation unless you are really bad at the game. I don't think anyone ever got the "not enough money" cutscenes for Bomb da Base or The Exchange (which was mostly just a vestigial gameplay element from 1 and 2).
this one issue must have sold hundreds of millions of copies in the gta 3 universe
>>739335840>WIN SHITkek i never noticed that
>>739334667GTA was better when it didn't take itself so seriously
>>739331885https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qqpTq9_rf_Q
if you didn't do 100% completion you didn't beat the game
i wish we could a "gamey" city game like gta 3. not necessarily running around, shooting, and driving. just a big explorable city, fun missions that let you decide how to do them, collectibles, great soundtrack, a focus on the vibe and atmosphere instead of realism.
>>739341682saints row 2 feels kinda like that
>>739341787oh that's one of the reasons i liked saints row 2 so much more than gta 4.
fuck that final missionnot to be attempted after a marathon session with no sleep behind youespecially not on a ps2unless you fucking hate yourself and your controller
>>739331885crts didnt look like that
