Japanese paper board folded 1,000 times + a physical cartidge.

The joycon gyroscope/accelerometer + the camera would read inputs, also with buttons. It also used pieces of reflective tape that you use the camera to pick up different things.

it was a cute little side project that utilized some of the niche gimmick features of the switch. the market ultimately wasn't interested in it, so they stopped making kits, however vegans will have you convinced that "tendies" were tripping over themselves to buy nintendo brand cardboard (they will conveniently omit the fact that the schematics for all the kits are available for free online for you to print out and use without needing to buy anything special)

this shit was actually fun

Google did a cardboard VR goggle thing around the same time.

there is nothing inherently wrong with the product.
the problem is that it is a full grown man using it when it is intended to be used by children.

This looks fun. I remember this being a Wii U prototype.

I got the VR set just to play Breath of the Wild in 3D. Even at 360p it was amazing. And also amazing how the UI scales perfectly.

It was probably exciting at it's time but I'd just have waited for the BotW-BetterVR mod. Although i can't even remember what the state of Cemu emulator was like back then and no one could have known that this would happen. VR mods likely weren't even a thing. Surprised Nintendo haven't shut it down yet.
