Not all vidya is designed to be addictive. Just the AAA garbage. When I got the feeling of OP's picrel, I realized I was playing garbage and my tastes shifted rapidly over the next few years. I stopped playing FPS and competitive games altogether (the games built with psychologists to be addictive and stimulating) and opted for tighter experiences made by smaller studios or solo devs. Now, I prefer co-op stuff with friends, games that challenge my reactions and split-second decision making (i.e. racing or souls games), or story driven titles with interesting worlds, dilemmas, or plotlines. my brain has been completely destroyed from playing retail WoW from 2006 to around 2017
during that time I barely played any other games, only WoW
and WoW kept rewarding me with all those little items and goodies when I played it, I would always get a little reward when playing it so my dopamine was re-programmed for it

They're still sorta fun, it's just the fun comes from PvP and competing against real humans. I can't handle the vast majority of single-player games anymore because:
1. The gameplay is just a rehash of something done before, and defeating a bunch of if/else statements designed to be beaten doesn't feel satisfying.
2. The writing is best video games is mediocre at best when compared to average books or TV series. There's maybe 1 game every 5 years that has writing and story that can keep me interested. Even games that have supposedly amazing writing according to the general audience like BG3 or CP2077 are bad.
3. Ironically, now that I'm older and have loads of money, I'm way more stingy about spending than I was back as a kid/teenager, so by the time I thnik the price of a game is right, I realize that not only it's not worth my money, it's not even worth my time which is even more precious.
So yeah, I've been mainly playing a niche chink pseudo-MMO called Conqueror's Blade for the past few years, because it has guild rivalry, allows me to joke around with a ton of people in my guild (Slav guild so there's 0 rules aside from not insulting our allies) and offers a relatively unique mix of gameplay (kinda Mount & Blade, Dynasty Warriors and Total War combined).
I used to think it was depression, but I can still have fun with other hobbies and a new game very now and then. My standards have simply risen exponently and the vast majority of games can't match them or offer something unique enough that warrants lowering them.
