The problems with Sonic are:

>Core mechanics are difficult to replicate in 3D, hard to debug and focus test so they use the Boost, which is too limited of a style to succeed without a crutch.

Yes but it isn't an exact 1:1 botw rip-off since each place is divided into 5 maps instead of being 1 single world.

Sonic '06 marked the point where people stopped expecting any given Sonic game to be good. There were bad ones before that, and weird middling ones like Heroes, but they spend at least 10 years trying to make up for that one. Shadow Generations was very good and they're at least releasing decent ones consistently, but everyone doesn't want to get burned again.

They never knew what to do with Sonic in 3D. In 2D, the "gotta go fast" concept worked because of the bright colors and the sense of speed but even then, they were already ruining it by having to sell 3 and S&K separately. The jump to 3D was a disaster from day one, and they never really knew what they wanted to do. It's no different from other 90 mascots that were born and died in the 2D era. The difference is that Sega was a bigger company than others and cultivated enough dedicated autists to keep the brand relevant.

Not a huge fan of bing bing wahoos, but sonic is pretty limited by its own design. Plus, it was never good. Sonic always felt like a LOOK WHAT I CAN DO tech demo to me, even as a kid. And while it looked cool the constant GO FAST, STOP, GO FAST STOP got annoying quickly. Unironically Sonic 3d blast felt better than the normal sonics, but I haven't played that since the sega channel days where I had to download it in 2 parts. I did like sonic spinball a lot.

Are there no Sonic rhythm games? It's no platforming, but 3D Sonic's hallway setup and moveset feels like it'd complement that sort of game perfectly. Plus, the series is known for it's music anyways
