Sony NEEDS more games like Helldivers 2 to tie more of those subscribers to its platform. Sony won't give up on trying to make GAAS games, but hopefully it'll be smarter about it going forward. And safe bets aren't safe bets. Helldivers 2 wasn't a safe bet at all. Who the hell knew about Helldivers 1? There's no easy way for Playstation to pull itself out of this situation. The nature of game development has changed a lot in the past generation and the problems of budgets, development lengths, shitty developers, bad leadership, etc aren't going away anytime soon. In the meantime, there are a lot of successful developers putting out much more compelling content across multiple platforms. These are the games that are driving a lot of enthusiasm from gamers. Lucky for Playstation, it's the preeminent third-party gaming console. As long as Sony ensures it is easy and desirable for third-party developers to put their games on Playstation, Sony's consoles still have a chance.
