Playing a game on Windows:

Playing a game on Linux:
>need to install a Windows emulator like proton or something before you can even install the game
>then install game (60% chance it even installs without an error)
>click shortcut
>doesn't load
>check error log
>don't have a degree in CS to understand machine code so you have to copy and paste it into AI to figure out what's wrong
>spend like 30 min going step by step trying everything the retarded AI tells you until you get it to work
>finally get it to work
>play game (but at reduced framerates because that's just what Linux hardware support is like)
>finish playing, leave game
>returns to desktop but screen is black
>need to restart your whole computer just to use it again

This is why Linux is at best a decade away from being a serious desktop gaming platform.
>>
Realistically could you just strip all the bullshit away from a modern version of Windows to the point where it's all the convenience but none of the forced bloat and spyware and constant updates bumfucking your setup? Or is this stuff literally impossible to get outta there like AIDS

That's exactly what i do. There are many programs that will do it for you or you can just read into it a bit. I have win 11 but i turned off everything except stuff that's convenient. Cortana onedrive the start menu the search bar the antivirus the auto updates etc etc all that is disabled its very nice. If you know what you're doing probably takes 15 minutes if you don't might take a couple hours. A good starting point look up chris titus tweaks and read what each does if you're unsure

all of that when i can just press install and then play on windows

That has been said about linux for over twenty five years already. It will never be a serious gaming platform. It's a great idea and admirable in it's intention but it is a dead end. The world needs another open source operating system that respects the pc as a gaming machine.

What are some programs you need Windows for? You might have an easier time using Linux than you think, just look up all the compatibility for the programs you do use.
I've been on Linux Mint for a few years now. Overall it's been nice and stable for me.

i tried mint and the other one made specifically for g*mers but the entire time it just felt unstable and inconsistent, shit wouldnt work the same way it did last time i booted etc. i hate to be a casual but theres a reason windows doesnt make you open the cmd anymore, its a hassle and i dont feel like fixing something that im used to simply functioning without issue

The secret is that the majority of anti-linux posts are written by Linuxfags that want you to stay on Windows.
There's two camps. One wants everyone to be on Linux because Microsoft and Apple are awful. The other sees Windows as a containment zone for browns.

>The world needs another open source operating system that respects the pc as a gaming machine
That's not how that works. Linux struggles to run Windows games because windows has a load of highly specific code running under the hood. That's why old Windows programs magically get new bugs on newer versions of Windows or modern programs can't run on older Windows, the code changes slightly between versions and things break, or Microsoft adds a new feature that old Windows can't handle.
You can't just say "I'm going to make open source Windows with no bugs" because you'd need to reverse engineer all of the system, for each version of Windows, no sane person would do this when they can just use Windows itself. There's a reason Linuxfags tell you to use a VM / dual boot when you totally stump them
