I really like the two games in this series.

>>739478562Fucking loved this game. It was about the best thing to play on PS1 that wasnt an FF game or Gran Turismo. >>739478268Never played 4. Looks exactly like 3. I remember ppl felt betrayed by 3 and most ppl didnt touch the series again until 7, which was actually a fairly good one.
>>739478268I was addicted to this game as a kid

I have never in my life met or talked to another person who even knows what this is, let alone owns it or tried it.
>>739478268tragic what happened to settlers
>>739480604Isn't Settlers supposed to be getting the whole "back to roots", or am I misremembering?
Has anyone heard of or even played Magecraft? It's some freeware game from ages ago, in which you play some mage who goes on an epic campaign of vengeance or something. At least that's what I remember. There are different spells for attacking or for defense, and you can level up some stats that make charging spells faster. I think I had fun playing it.

>>739481310I kind of "played" that>as a younger I had no clue what to do lol
11 year old me really like this game, made by the discovery channel of all people. I wish they had made more fun educational games that had depth.

There is no other game like this RTS, they have tried to make spiritual sequels or clones but they just never hit the same.Definitely a good project for an indie dev to try to revive the massive unit customization aspect.https://wz2100.net/
This is really just a 30+ unc thread. But that makes it better than most threads by default anyway.
>>739478268The entirety of Germany played Siedler.
>>739479347Ultima VIII flopped so this could exist and become a cult classic
>>739478268>Settlers IV>Only younigga, there's a massive community dedicated to Settlers IV. They keep patching the game and keeping the multiplayer alive.
>>739480627Around early 2010s they were trying to push a mobile game which was just a shittier Clash of Clans with recycled Settlers 7 assets. Then it was basically abandoned for about 10 years, then during covid a Settlers pack thing came out with every game bundled, supposedly working for modern OS but shit didnt work properly. Ubisoft also pulled the other settlers games from online stores. Looks like a couple years ago they tried releasing some new Settlers game but it looks like typical Ubisoft cash shop normieslop
>>739482552I played this. Was fucking confusing as a kid though. I wonder if it holds up.
>>739480226this just looks lovely
>>739481310I got filtered by that game.
>>739479308I don't think mischief makers is that obscure. It's not one of the N64's most well known titles but I'd say it's about on a level with Jet Force Gemini in terms of obscurity.
>pass the controller bro
Most obscure game I've played is probably Knights of the Chalice. It's on steam now, but when I played it I had to buy it directly from the guy who made it via his website. It's an extremely ugly RPG with a totally forgettable story, but it has a really good adaptation of the D&D3.5 ruleset and it has excellent combat encounter design. It's not gonna blow anyone away but I really enjoyed it.
>>739484143>pov: you fired up knight of the chalice and this is the first thing that comes to mind
>>739480627They were working on a reboot with the original Settlers creator, but kicked him out halfway through to turn it into a quick paced PVP focused RTS instead. Which for some strange reason wasn't successful.

>>739478268I never enjoyed the art style of IV's buildings which looked dark and shadowed. Much better was the colorful buildings in 3 which I always keep installed on every pc and play religiously to this day. Settlers 3 is peak comfy but I don't care about multiplayer.
>>739485358>I guess this game was popular over there?Nope, it wasn't.Brazillians only played soccer or GoW adjacent shit, only autists played shit like picrelIt's in portuguese albeitthough and i speak macaco

>>739485373>>739485498There's a patch that lets you speed up the game x10, makes it much more bearable. Also AI is pretty dumb so in many missions you can sneak few melee troops behind enemy lines, kill all their serfs, and let the rest starve.

I vaguely remember some RTS game. I think it had you constantly returning to and building out the same base, instead of building from scratch each mission. I also think you could customize your units to some extent. Does this ring a bell for anyone?
>>739485636I burnt a whole year of my adolescence playing Senate matches on MSN Gaming Zone.
>>739480226holy shit i havent seen this game in over 25 years
>>739484892Holy shit, I got this on the demo disc that came with my PS1, I got the console for Christmas but my parents were just cheap enough to not actually buy any games to go with it so all I had was this until the Christmas holidays were over and I could borrow some shit from my friends at school. Picrel was another game from that disc that I remember vividly.

>>739480204Really? I thought the great cut-off point for settlers was the 5th entry, because that's when Ubisoft thought forcing settlers to be an RTS would be a good idea. That was the real betrayal, because at this point the franchise lost its spirit.

>>739485779Got Harbinger recently. Played a bit but on post-XP Windows there's some sprites where transparency is black instead. Will play at some point since I'm curious cuz I only played the demo as a kid
Do you guys also have childhood games that you maybe got from a friend or uncle on a cd or a shady flash website and you dont remember anything about except maybe a certain scene, or a certain "image" in your brain and have no idea about any other information about it?I have many of those. Sometimes Id stumble onto some person playing some random NES or Msdos game and Ill be like "HOLY SHIT THATS THE GAME THAT WAS LOCKED IN MY MEMORY ALL THIS TIME"On the other hand there's others I have like no chance of ever finding I feel.

>>739490710>>739487957>>739487340>>739485819I like these.Picrel is a goofy jap tank game with sentient tanks and it plays more like a mech gamesome really crazy bosses too
https://store.steampowered.com/app/1288640/Myth_of_Future_Dimension/This game peaked at 2 players, you can literally see my activity on steamdb earlier this year. I really tried to like it but it was not very fun, the english translation is horrible.
>>739485615I played it and had a great time with it, and then when I beat it, it did the whole "And that wasn't the real boss" and then the world map expanded and a whole bunch more areas appeared and I just lost interest and never finished it.
tanarus. it was an online futuristic tank game where you captured points. then sony decided to monetize it and it killed the already small community completely. they made it free again later but when i checked there was literally 1 person else playing on the servers. sad because it was pretty fun
>>739489869It's an old school slav-RPG. Nobody knows about it but it has an incredible mod community (vainilla game is full of bugs).

>>739491410Diggers?
>>739491410I remember playing this as a kid. Never more than 10 minutes at a time, I had no idea how it worked.
>>739491225Oh yeah I remember this one, I played Cosmic Rift which was running from the same launcher and occasionally tried Tanarus as well as the weird infantry game they also had. Cosmic Rift rogue zone mode was such an experience, like 2D EVE Online on a small map. It was such a cozy experience trying to mine the best roid spots to be able to afford upgrades while trying to evade PVPers and other miners who usually attacked you over the field. Then trying to use those hard earned upgrades in PVP and hopefully not die and lose everything. On the last day before it turned to paid service and it was just a madhouse of people flying their shiniest shit going all out at each other since everyone knew the next day the game would be dead and gone.
>>739478268I fucking LOVE settlers 3 and 4 so much. Would kill for something similar. Rimworld scratches the itch a little bit I guess. Shame the new settlers that came out recently sucked from what I've heard.
>>739485009>>739485062Hey hey people.
>>739491045Back in the day, when I was a poor kid, I could only afford a used PC. It didn't have a hard drive, but it had a surprisingly large amount of RAM for that time. 32MB or something, if I remember correctly. So while I was saving up for a hard drive, I set up a RAM drive and copied a totally legit copy of the game without videos from a CD to it every time I wanted to play. It worked pretty well.
>>739491480It's crazy thinking about the absolutely shit-tier controls we used to put up with to play (great) games like these.I guess also amazing how long some of those controls stuck around. We're only just now finally moving away from click-to-move in Diablo style games.
>>739490669When I was a kid, for a brief period we had one of those old consoles that used tapes and had a full keyboard and a joystick, probably either C64 or ZX, and there was one game from it that's been haunting me for years. It had simple graphics and top-down view and you moved around some kind of labyrinthine structure I think. One particular thing I remember from it was the stairs that allowed you to move between floors, from what I remember visually they were just flat parallel lines that could be several tiles wide.
>>739482198I love this game. Every once in a while I'll reinstall and go through all three campaigns. What are some of those spiritual successors you mentioned?
>>739478268I very much doubt you're the only one who played the Settlers although I only played 1 & 2, not 4
Inexplicably getting a remaster this year. Tried to do entirely too much at once but it was entertaining, even if I never got far.
>>739491715Farthest Frontier scratched that itch for me.
A surprisingly deep RPG that got nuked due to its abysmal presentation (bad graphics, meh music and sluggish out of combat movement). Was fun, combat was very deep, time of the day and weather affected skills, positioning as well, building characters was very freeform (you can make your starting thief a wizard for instance). Tons of party members, permadeath, a very good game imho.
>>739484238>but kicked him out halfway through to turn it into a quick paced PVP focused RTS instead.
>>739492054The BBC Micro might have been the console. Game could have been Labyrinth.

>>739478268>>739485009>>739488862these three games all blended into one in my mind for some reason
>>739492054I hope you find it some day friend. For me its a sort of very specific "vibe" where its some sort pre-ps3 era pixelated game maybe a castlevania adjacent game (Not castlevania, I checked) where its some sort of grand stairway to a castle, and there's red and yellows and maybe some oranges. I dont remember a single thing about the game other than that. not a genre no nothing. Im not even fully sure if its a 2d or 3d game. All i know is sometimes a game moment will have a similar "Aesthetic" and it will remind me of that other old game. For example, this madame tusk area very much is that. Something about the wallpaper patern or the color combinations of red + beiges and such really triggers that memory for me. I hope one day they invent a way to project memories so I can maybe get rid of this curse.

Maybe one of you guys could help me - I've got this game in my memory, it was a shareware/freeware shoot'em up (I believe), and the main thing I remember about it is that the weapons included rubber boots that would bounce around the screen, and bubbles that would fly to the top. Has anyone played anything like it?
>>739492989>Game could have been Labyrinth.Unfortunately not. I think it had a JRPG-ish navigation with scrolling screen, and I almost certainly remember it being mostly narrow corridors 2-4 tiles wide.

>>739494090>>739495009In my opinion the remaster looks absolutely horrendous. You should stick with the original, it nails that late DOS feel that games like Alone in the Dark and Crusader also have. Pretty sure it comes bundled with the remaster if you buy that.

>>739495294>I wish there was a peaceful way of completing missions, even if it was much harder.Settlers 4 had missions where the goal was to win by meeting a certain economical criteria, like getting a certain amount of resources. The Trojan maps had a scenario where, as the Romans, you had to build enough tier 3 units plus pioneers and geologists (the ones that make up the foundation carts) to fill the trojan horse - beating the enemies are not a requirement, and the enemy is ultra well defended. The next mission would have you start from the middle of the heavily fortified enemy town, building up from there and then destroying it from the inside.crap now I want to play it again.

>>739486414your correct. I played this on hard difficulty and the stage leading up to the boss was mundane enough to get through easily enough. The very first boss fight was some japanese character action game tier shit i didnt see coming. Multiphase boss, you can only take 2 or 3 hits before dying and dodging his attacks required very good movement knowledge no where near what the level leading up to the boss prepares you for. It was one of those type of boss fights you spend a few hours getting good at before clearing. i legit wanted to lower difficulty but it wouldve required starting over and i hit my head against the wall till i got through. legit found it harder than most souls bosses.
>>739478268>go back and play the settlers a few months ago, surely as an adult I'll be better at it and win easily>get absolutely fucking RAPED repeatedly in the first level of the roman campaign by the AIThere is something wrong with this game, after some updates or AI fixes it became nearly impossible to beat it without sweating your balls off and playing like a madman. You can find other threads about it online if you look, maybe it was always like that but its seriously hard now.

Had it on 4 CDs, and now I can't even pirate it because it doesn't run properly anywhere. I remember it basically required a CD drive to install and gave an error if I used a DVD drive. The game seemingly flopped hard and bsically killed the studio. Also the assets were inconsistent, like how steampunkies' tank model in-game was different from the doodads showing broken ones. Everyone knows their rise of nations though, and it had some re-releases.
I actually had my parents buy this for me from a Best Buy bargain bin circa 1998
