My first instinct is that it unpacks the image into ram before installing it. Hard to know without digging deeper into your system or seeing the install process. One thing you could post are the installer logs.
>>
>>739487283
The installer should have a dropdown somewhere to open the full log output. In any cased after a bit of googling it seems that the installer is trying to use the original partition table and fails because the boot partition is filled up
https://www.reddit.com/r/Fedora/comments/ijgg4r/rsync_error_11_when_trying_to_install/

You probably need to delete all partitions with something like cfdisk and after that start the installer.
>>
>>739487592
That complicates things and I don't have any expertise on how to handle same drive dual boot. Do you have extra drives? The recommended dualboot setup is to have Windows on one drive and Linux on another. The reason being that Windows likes to nuke competing bootloaders on the same drive.

it's been working fine for years and still is. the only reason it was deprecated was because FreeDesktop and Red Hat conspired to kill the project. XLibre has implemented about a decade's worth of project updates in a year because FD and RH were deliberately killing it so they could (((strongly encourage))) Wayland adoption across all DEs.

>No HDR

Not him but maybe this is why I've never had a problem with X11. I don't care about HDR; I have a single monitor, because I use my PC primarily for gaming, and I don't need Discord open on the side; and my gaming use case doesn't require a higher resolution than 1200p (in fact 1200p specifically is the ideal resolution), so I don't have the "oh no I bought a super high-res monitor and now the text is too small so I have to upscale it so I can read things" problem.
>inb4 "uh uhhh you're poor"
No but I might be poor if I were in the habit of buying things just to show off that I can afford them.

>>
>>739494096
Yes.
The fact that it's 16:10 is a problem for a small number of games that are programmed so badly that they insist on stretching their 16:9 graphics to fill the screen instead of letterboxing.
Fortunately, I can fix such cases with a wrapper script that runs
>xrandr --output DisplayPort-0 --mode 1920x1080 --set 'scaling mode' 'Full aspect'
before a game starts and reverts that change after the game closes.
(Or I could just use gamescope, of course, but that can introduce input delay and other issues.)
I don't know if Wayland has a suitable alternative to xrandr, but from what I've heard, such an alternative would have to be implemented separately for each desktop environment or some shit, in which case it'll probably be one of those cases in which I can either use KDE or go fuck myself, and that's if anyone implements it in the first place instead of just deciding there's no use case for what I actively use.
>dude, just open the display settings window and—
No, it has to be used in a shell script.

>>739494659
Literally use Mint or Ubuntu for a year, even if you don't like it, because it teaches you how to fix small, beginner friendly problems that you can then take forward into other distros because the architecture is pretty much the same with only different DEs, Package managers, and a handful of different commands. People severely undervalue the lessons that babby's first/retard's first linux distros teach you.

I actually do have a second monitor. I meant that I have a single monitor plugged into my Linux gaming PC. The second monitor is gathering dust at the moment, and I guess it just will be used for a second PC when I care enough to get that set up, because 99.999% of games are meant to run on a single screen, so I have no reason for a multi-monitor set-up unless I start using my PC for work or something, and I'm unlikely to be using my own personal hardware for work unless I'm starting my own business which isn't something I want to do. Also I haven't use a laptop in more than 10 years. Still not sure why you're seething about a random stranger not buying what isn't needed, but enjoy your melty in any case.

>>739496164
I'm >>739496664 and I've rarely had problems with games freezing or glitching with 2 screens once you know a bit about how X11 works and you see the same problems pop up over and over again its easy to figure out. some games will pop up on the screen you launch in so you need to be sure to launch certain programs in the monitor you want, others will actually read which monitor is first and default to that. Other games will freeze if you click the second window but they will also freeze if you alt-tab and some of them are fixable but others are easier just to collect in a folder to remind you that you can't alt-tab or click a second screen when you play.

What do you think about Windows announcing the their next OS is a Linux one? Does Azure have you rattled? What about Window's putting more money and dev time into Fedora? What about WSL team expanding and getting more financing? What about the leaked email saying that the future of Windows might be integration with Linux?
>>
>>739496840
Sure, it's just not a problem I need to think about solving. I used to have both of my monitors plugged into the same PC, but what goes on the second screen while I'm playing games? Distractions. Having a game running on one screen and a movie playing on the other screen is cool until you actually want to enjoy one of them, at which point the other can fuck off. I ended up creating a keyboard shortcut to enable/disable the second monitor so that I could disable it for gaming without opening the display settings window every time. And eventually I just started keeping it disabled anyway, so I didn't bother plugging it in after the last time I moved my PC.
The only time I've ever benefited from multiple monitors is when I'm working, and the computer on which I'm typing right now has never been used for work.

I don't think its as much destruction as I think they see the writing on the wall and they are trying to make their version of Linux to then funnel people over to, so sure its a type of destruction but its not like "Lets destroy Linux to then force Windows 11 or 12" its more "Let's try to become de facto Linux because its obvious there's something here or people here who know what they are doing." They wouldn't have made Azure and increased their Linux division and hire people with Linux Dev exp if they were confident in what they had as a product.

But yeah im usin a GPD pocket 4 with 32GB of ram and a ryzen hx370 with bazzite. Back in the day getting anything to work with linux was a hope and pray situation but these days i can generally just assume shit will work fine and it almost always does. Valve really unfucked linux

Most likely and the fact they ganged up on Steam with a round of lawsuits recently after telling Steam "We are prioritizing gaming" and not allowing them dev kits to preserve older windows games and finding out Steam's response was to then make their own OS were Windows can't break their API calls or bully them anymore is really telling that they feel like they are in a corner when it comes to the consumer market.

This affects all games.

The funny part is he thinks I'm some X11 warrior but the reason I don't use Wayland is simply that Linux Mint is still on X11 by default and I just don't have any of the problems that would be solved by going out of my way to change it. Whenever Mint starts using Wayland by default, I'll probably be happy with it as long as there are replacements for xrandr and xdotool.

The Linux community, or at least the people here, seem to suffer a lot from "new thing, best thing" I don't know how many times I've read people recommend new users some sort of flavor-of-the-week or cutting edge distro instead of something user friendly that could handhold them for a while before then hopping to another distrobution after doing more research and learning.
I also don't get how people think distrohopping is this grave sin that is ruining the community. It's literally a buffet of free options my dude, use something and move on, there's nothing wrong with that. I usually use my distro for a year before I jump to another and I'll probably jump around until I've got a taste of everything before I make a final decision on what to use. But a lot of the "problems" people bring up seem to be "Yeah, but you aren't doing it MY way" which is the whole point of Linux... You can do shit YOUR way.

What you should do for mod order is to generate a wrye bash/smash patch, load everything into tesvedit, filter by conflicts and exclude everything in the bash patch. Then manually figure out what should go first and take notes.
In the past, BOSS was good since it always had the "correct" order due to being manually sorted by project contributors. LOOT never gets the order correct and is more harmful than helpful.

I looked into this one before and I have no idea how to fix this. It seems like every single Bakin game is broken from a combination of .NET 4.5 fuckery and making direct system calls into ntdll. For a starting point to investigate, use that one Chinese guy's modified Bakin DLL to make it work on Windows 7 - that'll get you past a few syscall problems. Do anons here have any thoughts on stable vs rolling release distros? I wanna setup a dual boot setup with Linux on one drive for personal computing and some minor gaymen and have windows on the other for games that require nasty anti-cheats.

Are rolling release distros constantly breaking or really annoying to maintain? I was mainly thinking of getting Cachy because i like how optimized it seemingly is but people also warn that it's just some FOTM bullshit
>>
>>739518636

>>
>>739518636
>Are rolling release distros constantly breaking
No, but there is a low risk of it happening. You're basically acting as a beta tester for stable release distros. For gaming you might want to ride that wave to get the latest drivers for example
>>
>>739519016
yes and no, if you never update it will probably never break, but for example if you want the latest NVIDIA driver and only update that something will maybe break
>>
>>739518886
Yeah, that's a good strategy. Limine with btrfs snapshots. An update goes wrong and you can always roll back in the boot menu. CachyOS can set this up for you on install.
>>
>>739518636
Cachy has automatic snapshots in case you fuck something up and can roll back if you need to.
>>
>>739518636
If you value stability then I don't think you should be afraid of using a point-release distro. I use one; games work. I don't really have any experience with rolling-release. But I think >>739518739 is only true of rolling-release if it's true at all. There's no reason not to install every update that comes to Linux Mint, for example. But maybe the "avoid updates at all costs" mentality of Windows users actually has some value if you're using a distro that treats you like a beta tester and you don't want to be a beta tester.

I just `sudo apt install steam` on Linux Mint.
Aside from whatever dependency issue you're describing (which I've never seen), the .deb from the Steam web site will do the same thing as the package provided by any Debian-based distribution's package manager: it basically installs a Steam installer. Steam itself is all going to be installed into your home directory, which is why it can self-update without root. So if the .deb file from Steam doesn't succeed at its one job, which is telling the OS what the dependencies are, then you should just use whatever Steam package your distribution provides, and you'll get the same Steam in the end.
... Well, actually, if you're on Ucuntu, that's probably a Snap package, and Steam installed with Snap may not behave the same as Steam installed from the .deb file, and maybe Ucuntu expecting a Snap package for Steam is why you have issues with the .deb file. But if you don't want to use Snap then you should just get off Ucuntu.

I don't care if the .deb file somehow "bundles" (more likely just lists as dependencies) extraneous terminal programs, because I used the Linux Mint package to get the Steam installer, and I didn't have that problem. yes, but its typically when i screen capture a specific portion of a window that i select that the issue arises. so of those, its capture rectangular region.

worse, the rust cult is prophecying that "rust will SAVE the linux kernel"
>>
>>739526609
no, spectacle IS the new tool that is supposed to work fine with waylands autism.
apparently its prone to crashing, as is the wayland compositor...
supposedly hitting alt shift F12 will restart the compositor and fix that issue.

You might need to dig a bit with google and look for stuff like "fedora 44 spectacle screenshot erratically doesn't work" and then look for fedora discussions like
https://discussion.fedoraproject.org/t/after-two-updatees-to-f44-spectacle-does-not-come-up-f44-kde/191894
https://discuss.kde.org/t/spectacle-not-taking-screenshots/35871
and following the rabbithole for anything talking about kde plasma.

Linux requires tinkering and wayland is quite unstable despite the massive shitflinging contest those 3 autists had with eachother.

wayland issue.
wayland was deliberately developed to block stuff like the steam controller because it works to simulate mouse clicks and stuff like that.
You need to do a song and dance to unblock it.

Its one of those "core features" of wayland that broke a lot of old workflows.

well, cachyOS seems to enable certain settings by default with vsynch that can give you issues like this.
garuda and sway natively handle this stuff with something called the "allow_tearing" protocol (if my research is correct) but kde plasma doesnt.
this stuff is arbitrary when it comes to wayland.
anyways, assuming this is what I think it is, you might want to see if in system settings you can find a setting for screen tearing in your display stuff. might be in display configuration.
theoretically that should work, but its one of multiple possible solutions.

sadly the seething wayland cultists who brag about using kde plasma don't seem capable of lending a hand.
they are more interested in childish passive aggression like
>>739530381
>>739530447

anyways, the other possible fixes are.... a setting in mangowc where there is a mismatch in the framerate of the game vs the monitors refresh rate, which you can fix by capping the framerate in mangowc

the last thing I find is a steam launch option because of the mismatch between xwayland and wayland, where you use a steam launch option
>PROTON_ENABLE_WAYLAND=1 %command%
to force the game to use wayland.

I agree with this guy that LTS is a fools game. Only use LTS if your PC is for web browsing and nothing else.
People get tricked into it because they think it means more stability, but in reality it's for people who don't want to change for 5 years. Good if you were deploying across 10 PCs in an office and only needed then to be secure.
For your average bloke who only has one or two PCs you should be using the latest release

What part of
>Only use LTS for web browsing
Didn't you understand?
>Keep new exploits from affecting you
Most exploits are from older software. Newer software is more likely to be patched, but also 90% of exploits don't impact the average user. Most of the time they require physical access to the PC
>>
>>739539275
most exploits require direct access or sudo to be enabled.
I can set up something to act as a NAS, disable sudo, setup samba to only accept traffic on my local network, encapsulate the apps running on that box, and lock things down pretty tightly.
There are many uses for linux that do not require much in the way of an outside network connection.

try a different kernel with a cpu scheduler that is more tuned for gaming. the default cpu scheduler is geared toward general desktop use. i didnt think it would make a difference until i tried it. im on nixos, i use a cachyos based kernel. i did get over 10fps boost in all my games. the cpu scheduler they have basically recognizes a game or intense process is running and chokes out other processes, it won't yield that much time to other processes on your system. that's where your stuttering is probably coming from.

I've been following recettear. That's been fixed for at least a year now. The issue was missing dsound libraries. I'll look into the others you mentioned.

Just because your snowflake DE that was updated 10 years ago doesn't work, doesn't mean wayland doesn't work.

What's the steam store page for that game? Since there are several entries it's hard to know what you mean.

I use Debian and XFCE. I have a 9800x3d CPU, a 7900xt w/ 20gb VRAM, 32gb DDR5 @ 6000mhz. I have a 42" 4k LG C5 OLED @ 144hz. I have four displays connected, the three on the sides are all 24" 60hz 1080p.

Don't care. You're all poor and gay. I play all games from Dungeon Keeper to Scam Citizen. Works on my machine, perfectly. Love Debian! Love AMD! niggers

I always wondered who are these fucking people that buy 2060/3060/4060 cards. The subsidiary cards. Never in my life have I even considered.

/v/ truly is 3rd world

*60 cards were only worthwhile when SLI was still a thing.

I use Debian Sid as my daily driver and it's great for everything. I dual-boot into Windows 10 LTSC for things like Marathon. Although I just had to re-bloat my LTSC install for Forza 6 (*required Microsoft Game Bar, Microsoft Game Services, Microsoft Store and Microsoft Xbox App. My friends just call it the rape app. "Hey can you add me on the rape app so we can play Forza".

Did you know it costs $14.95aud to change your username one time on Xbox App? It's like, fuck, why do people just prefer steam??

Probably shouldn't advise n00bs to use Sid, unless they already know how to deal with APT when it inevitably shits the bed due to some packaging change.

There is no difference. If you don't want your system to break then use atomic distributions.

Linux isn't for poor people. Go back to windows where you poorfags belong. Stop putting your dirty poor hands on MY operating system. God I fucking hate poorshits.

Sure. Still doesn't detract from the fact that Greg KH says that 80% of the kernel vulnerabilities would be prevented with Rust.
