I replayed 9 recently on my boomer CRT setup and loved every second of it. It's one of the few if not only mainline FF game that requires grinding which I don't mind. I do wish it moved a bit faster. The game is very animation heavy. Can't be in a rush playing this.

I played it for the first time last year and yeah it's good. It's better than 8, which I actually played as a kid when it came out. So 9 is better than 8 even with 8 having a nostalgia boost. Only thing that sucks is how rushed the last 1/3 of the game is. Major plot twist is in the last hour of the game and you meet the final boss after the battle transition. It's not weird to have the final boss not be the main villain, but he is literally not even mentioned at all until you're fighting him. That would be like on FF10 if no one even mentioned Yu Yevon ever.And as for the plot twist, imagine if you find out Cloud's true past when he's in the northern crater.They fumbled the ending but otherwise it's good.

Cloud was never in SOLDIER, Squall is an orphan, Tidus is a dream. All of those are revealed around the middle of the game. Zidane's is revealed like right at the end of the game and it was never even that intriguing anyway since there are already a bunch of animal people running around the world, who cares about some human with a tail.

I shouldn't have to intuit which spells are appropriate to Junction to my strength stat if I want an appropriate level of challenge, rather than just curbstomping everything into the ground with my basic attacks. (The same can basically be said for any stat). It's essentially giving you access to early through to late game equipment from the first disc on.
