opinions
>>739498105Just finished a Subnautica session.Opinion? It's good. Not revolutionary, just good.Facts: feels lonely. Progression is satisfying but the game doesn't hold your hand and without a guide or previous experience of some sort in this specific game, you're in for a good time, but not great time.Overrated in my final opinion. Good, not great. Hopefully Subnautica will be better due to it being coop (I dunno I haven't played the EA).
Good. Worth a playthrough with hunger and thirst disabled.
Krafton is getting everything they deserve after not finishing TERA
>>739498105One of the greatest games ever. If you don't like survival slop you still wont like it but if you tolerate or like survivalslop this game is incredible. even better if you're afraid of the ocean.
>>739498984>worth playing if you don't actually want to play it
>>739498105Game for people who don't like games but think themselves gamers.
>>739499168>the game is managing pee and poo timers instead of exploring an ocean volcanoGet this sims shit outta here
>>739499341>why should i try to survive in a survival game?!Endless Ocean sounds more your speed.
>>739498105I'd enjoy it a lot more if it didn't have the annoying food/thirst slop. People don't die after less than a day without water or food. It's just annoying and doesn't contribute anything to the game besides annoyance.
>>739498105Solid 8/10 game.Subnautica 2 has potential to become a 9/10 game.
>>739499441This, make me immortal and the game play itself.
>>739498105Best game of 2010s.
>>739499397>survival gameIt would be a compelling argument if hunger and thirst weren't solved within the first half of the game starting until it ends.>dropped in the biome with the most abundant food and drinkable water>have to drop what you're doing to go click on some fish and kelp every few minuteswow such gameplay
>>739499617*first half hour
How's Subnautica 2? Is it even a good idea to play it before they finish the story?
>>739499827it's not below zero
>>739499827Subnautica 2 is phenomenal. It's Subnautica 1 but improved in every single way.Its current state is pretty much a very polished extended demo that takes around 10 to 15 hours to beat.If you have nothing else to do and don't care about spoilers, I'd say go for it.
>>739499827Things sub 2 does better than sub 1: graphics, QOL (base building), spoonfeeding progression, more fauna interaction.Things sub 1 does better than sub 2: atmosphere & immersion, storytelling, danger, worldbuilding, sense of scale, actually has an ocean, the map isn't a straight line, etc.Basically everything that makes subnautica 1 one of the best games of all time is missing from subnautica 2.
>>739499617Is that all you did, sit in the life pod and only go out to get a couple of fish to eat and drink?
>>739500382Subnautica 2 is early access and unfinished, just like Sub 1 was when it was first launched. Sub 1 was also missing most of the map. It's a little silly to complain about a just-released EA game not being the same as a completed game.
>>739498105No opinions, only Zuul.
Your post was clearly shilling so I'm not going to engage with you. You're a retarded faggot and should kill yourself.
>>739500420No I played the game instead of doing virtual chores.
>>739500645>eating and drinking are "chores"Are you a jeet or just brain-damaged?
>>739500759can't you differentiate real life and video games, bot?
>>739498105fuck niggers
>>739500759>eating and drinking are "chores"In a video game? Yes. What the fuck?
decided to give 1 a go last weekend and was enjoying it up until around the 10 hour mark where i genuinely have no clue where to go at this point. i've since picked it up twice for 1-2 hour sessions going back over my PDA, going deeper in old spots etc and can't find jack shit for new gear to scan. i'm pretty sure i did stuff way out of order because i have a bunch of blueprint upgrades unlocked for what looks like late game gear, but can't find the scans for the blueprints for the gear. the story has actually been pretty cool so far. the hour or so where you figure out the big picture goal was interesting.
>>739498105Kino. You can never recapture the first game though.
>>739498105pretty awful for anything other than afk moments where you are underwater and you can see a coral reef in the distance.pretty boring build and upgrade system or just the same as all the other ones I wouldn't call it bad just boring and samey as all the other crafting survival games. The moment to moment action is very boring.
>>739499827Bought it and played a bit of it, yeah it's decent enough but i'll just wait for 1.0 in 2028 or something.
>>739500857>>739500893Thanks for confirming.
>>739500934While looking for the sub parts I ended up traveling around with the parts for a scanner room, expansion chips, and a biofuel room and just making a pop-up mini outpost to look for parts then deconstructing it and move on when I was done. The seamoth has effectively infinite power with the solar charger, so it's more just tedious than anything else.
>>739501305Yeah I just confirmed you're retarded. I didn't have to but I did it anyway.
>new mod that adds the Ice Dragon to the first game and its own small biome, going there the PDA says that an invasive species has established itself in the craterVery cool, love when modders add cut things.
Good gayme
What else is a good survival game, it needs to have a degree of muh grafx though because i have strong visual autism.
>>739498105It's pretty unique, there's no other game like it, so the novelty alone hard sells it. Ayy wildlife is well designed, but the physics model is lacking on basically all movement and reactivity. Phenomenal sound design, these guys were fucking insane to fire that guy over a joke. Unfortunately, this game can really only be played once, the environment isn't dynamic, so once you know where everything is, the game loses its wonder since it relies heavily on its exploration and mystery to keep you entertained.
>game forces you to be a brown mystery meat goblino>money stolen
>>739498105sound design carries it
>>739499827It's good, there's a worrying possibility it could be linear, and the boss music for leviathan is annoying/not scary. However its early access and only 15 hours of game right now so definitely wait for 1.0
>>739500934Search the wrecks and abandoned bases, those are great for blueprints. And make sure to check out the Aurora if you haven't already, the entrance is at the back.
>>739504681>these guys were fucking insane to fire that guy over a joke.It wasn't a joke. To them, it was a direct attack on their belief system. It's like denouncing God inside of a catholic church.
Devs a sheltered view on what it means to survive what with their now rolled back comments on anti-killing fish
>>739498105Subnautica is probably my overall favorite survival crafting game. It doesn't belabor the point: You're on a lifepod that's crashed into an ocean planet, time to try to survive and get off the planet. Everything that follows after from that feels organic. There are multiple vehicles whose existence justifies themselves, tons of items and equipment that help you towards your goal while also feeling fun to use, and enough customization options that you can create large bases in your own style, and even form side bases. I have probably spent more time constructing cool bases and looking outside at the environment than any other of these games. Most of all, it evokes the feeling of being on a beautiful if extremely dangerous alien planet, with all of the wonder and loneliness it inspires. It's the ultimate determinant that makes you feel safe in and around your base, it is the pure synthesis of what a survival crafting game should be in my personal opinion.I didn't even play Below Zero because black female protagonist yapping, but I played 2 and outside of the base-building and pure graphical fidelity everything else is worse. The environments are plain, all some derivative of colored sand and dunes. The soundtrack is okay, but doesn't deserve to stand next to Simon Chylinski. The plot is unnecessarily complex. The characters are preachy and annoying. The map is unnecessarily restrictive. Worst, there is no sense of urgency or need for survival. It's just not very good, I am glad I pirated it and have no plans to buy it without some pretty big changes.
>>739506184>I didn't even play Below Zero because black female protagonist yappingAs someone else who thinks Sub 1 is a peak survival game, it was so fucking mid. I haven't touched 2 yet cos I'm waiting for it to be finished, but BZ bored me to tears only after 1 or 2 hours.
>>739498105it's fresh
>>739498105I do want more. The sea beckons to me. I enjoy mastering my environment.
Tried recently for the first time and i don't get the hype, the game feels like a hollow husk not a full game Even the ship when I went out to explore it, it looked so bad, like i went out of bounds or something
>>739498105S2: creatures do zero damage - no scary
>>739498105Great game for one and exactly one playthrough. Which kinda sucks, amongst others for the reason that it is terribly unpolished and needs like 20 QoL mods, but you don't know that until you have played through it.
>>739506369Below Zero tried so hard to be marketable and inject ways so they could cash in on the success. The stupid penguin creature that also had the little robot version was such an obvious plushie insert, as well as the ending being the biggest attempt at sequel bait that just ended up bombing. They make their game be all about how to approach the threats without killing them and then their one alive NPC just managed to survive cause she (of course a she) kills and eats the things you have to run away from. I'll be playing 2 but gonna wait 'till they get out of early access cause no way they haven't left in a ton of balance and performance issues
>>739504681>>739505669All he had to do was use a separate twitter account for his personal opinions than the one he also posted official work material on.
>>739505247>the entrance is at the back
>>739508125Yup, retarded move. Shouldnt have gotten fired over it and I doubt they would have done the same if he was ranting about evil chuds. Either way the game will suffer for not having as good audio design as the first
>>739498105I just finished the rocket this morning. Wasn't a fan of the last third or so of the game. I might play Below Zero next but I've heard dubious things about that.
>>739500934>can't find jack shit for new gear to scanDo you have the scanner room? It will show everything in its radius including fragments you can scan for new parts.
>>739498984Mouthbreather alarm
>>739498105>decided to replay this two days ago>rifle didn't spawn in early zones, had to play without it for almost 8 hours>every fucking creature just randomly attack your seamoth whenever they can>but pls no violenceYeah, fuck that. The game is clearly intended to be blasted through, because you cannot try to relax and actually explore the zones fully because of this shit. Also the game is 12 years and they still couldn't bother to fix glaring issues.>music fade-out is still fucked up so up to 3 different biome musics can be played at the same time if you go through those biomes fast enough>regular leviathan still clip through the terrain and can catch your seamoth and put you out of bounds because of this>they kept the dumb decision of having your bases fully rendered regardless of distance so megabase are out of the question>violence bad mkay? disregard that the planet have killed the 159 aurora passengers, and the warpers have killed 11783 lives.
wait is this actually the end? i didnt even visit like half the map lmao
>>739510469Victory lap around the Dunes, go.
>>739499341>>the game is managing pee and poo timers instead of exploring an ocean volcanoreal life is managing pee and poo timers while exploring ocean volcanoes
>>739498105I really liked it. I feel like I bounced off of a lot of survival crafting games because there was either no sense of satisfying pacing to progression, or because the world simply wasn't interesting to to explore.Subnautica ties things together with fun exploration in an alien setting that gets increasingly horrifying the deeper you're expected to go, and a very clear set of goals you're working towards. So you're not just punching trees for 20+ hours so you can get slightly better at punching even more trees.
>>7395075302 has more of the same. Biggest problem, you can't fucking kill any of the fish. Like half the goddamn fish in this retarded game are predators, and they all cannot be put down. You get some powers that can get them to stop following you, but there's no way to ACTUALLY stop them from attacking permanently. They don't even do that much damage, it'll be like 2HP a hit, but it's incredibly fucking annoying. Honestly, while I didn't play BZ I think I see the same design philosophy in this game: Fucking cramped map that's arbitrarily gated, with unnecessarily drawn-out whiney dialogue from a million girlbosses that are all the absolute best at what they do. "Listen up kids! It's Paulina the ace pilot, here to tell you how to pilot your underwater ship!" No, I don't want to fucking listen to that bullshit. It's just ten hours of picking up audio logs that are all desperately trying to copy Marguerit from SN1.
>>739498105Good for it's current build. Still think that not being able to kill shit with a knife like you could in the first game is retarded, and the devs seem like fags. But overall the game is fine. I got Subnautica 1 in EA and wasn't let down, hopefully they don't botch it in 2
>>739512240>Marguerit survived the infection and fight with the reaper while said infection was killing her>She survived when the whole point of her was that her pride fucked everything up and the consequences of it did her in>It's never explained how she survived
>>739512902>>It's never explained how she survivedThis is my biggest fucking problem with Below Zero. They wanted a badass female character so badly that they just handwaved an entire plot point of the first game.
>>739505247I went there and did a lot, fixed the rector core and stuff. There are 2 doors locked with a keypad, captains quarters I think and another door near it. I wasn't able to find the code. Is it necessary to open these doors in order to progress?
>>739513101Now, if you found her in her last moments, sure. I could accept that, but not just fine.
>>739513121yes. just google the codes
>>739510469Making the cure basically requires you to go around the whole map, what do you mean?
>>739513384Yeah, I could sort of accept it if she managed to barely stay alive by exclusively eating fish that carried the cure, but then she wouldn't be very AMAZING and BADASS and COOL.
>>739513616the portals at the last base take you like 5 feet from all the ingredients
>>739513616He's shitposting in multiple layers: he's spoiling a major event, he's degrading the game, patronizing those way enjoy it and (making an attempt at) derailing the thread.
>>739498105The only survival game I've enjoyed. Hopeful 2 is good. But I worry 2 its proof Subnautica was a accidental success. A one hit wonder if you will.
>>739513774I can confirm that's not the case.Subnautica was indeed an accidental success.Below Zero was the studio's attempt at recreating Subnautica through the lens of their ideology. It sucked so bad, it drove the studio in the hands of Krafton.Krafton then set out to recreate what made Subnautica popular and now we have Subnautica 2, which is just like Subnautica 1, but better.
>>739512902It's fucking hilarious because of all three of them she should have been the most fucked. She was last seen hanging on for dear life to a leviathan as it plunged into the depths when they were already at 500 meters below the surface. Even if she somehow survived that, she would have been stranded hundreds of meters underwater with nothing to survive off of. AND she was infected with kharaa. She is the only instance of anyone surviving the illness without being treated, somehow even the giga-advanced alien race didn't show any exceptions like this. I just rewrite everything that's retarded in this series in my head. It's very evident the devs in this had political motives to their insistent girlboss writing.
>>739514126>just like Subnautica 1, but betterCite something that is better in SN2 other than the base building and the literal graphical fidelity.
>>739499341>thisAdding a timer for fucken anything in a game has been objectively proven to make gameplay worse. Mythic dungeons in WoW killed all fun allowed. Only sweatlords find that shit fun because they suck at everything else in life

There's more wrecks/anomalies to explore, biomes are denser, night time looks amazing with all the fluorescent plants, more ways to deal with hunger and thirst, more upgrades to your swim speed, different species now actually interact with each other, I think the story is way more engaging, there are multiple mysteries to investigate, the crafting QoL...
>>739514683Rekt

>>739514683>There's more wrecks/anomalies to exploreNo there are not, and the rewards for doing so are much smaller than the original>biomes are denserThey are smaller, and they are visually homogenous. There is nothing like the Mushroom Forest, Blood Kelp Caves, Deep Grand Reef, etc. Almost all of them are just colored dunes>more upgrades to your swim speedThey're based around a moronic adaptability mechanic, and even with them you swim slow as fuck. >different species now actually interact with each otherThat's great, in exchange you now can't kill any fish ever. >I think the story is way more engagingYou should be flayed alive> the crafting QoL...LMFAO this is just as shitty as the original, at least it has a mod to craft intermediate parts for you
>>739515210>LMFAO this is just as shitty as the originalSo what you're telling me is that you didn't play the game. That's okay, I'm just confused as to what you're basing your (factually wrong) opinions on.
>>739515196The sound design is worse, the movement is basically the exact same minus adaptations which is really just pressing shift to sprint for a second every five seconds. There is no more sprinting on land. Crafting is worse than the original with mods that have existed for a decade. The environmental storytelling is unironically worse than the original. The biomes are FAR more homogenous in this game. The RPG elements are lackadaisical and limited. This game is going to be another Below Zero with some changes they made trying to imitate the first. Its only indisputable upgrade is basebuilding. It is going to remain a disappointment because it fails to capture the elements that made the original critically acclaimed.
>>739515339>ummm ackshually you didn't play itI did. Go ahead and tell me if I'm building an advanced wiring kit if it builds all the intermediate products in between it. Because you can do that in the original with a mod everyone uses that has been around for ten years. And yes, before you say anything about 'but mods' these are things the community has been using for YEARS and would be elementary to implement in the sequel.
>>739515416Nigga, what the fuck are you talking about? Why would I want advanced components to automatically create base components when there are multiple ways to create base components now?Something you'd know about if you actually played the game.
>>739515471>Why would I want advanced components to automatically create base components when there are multiple ways to create base components now? What are the multiple ways to make the components for an advanced wiring kit in Subnautica 2? Go ahead shill, please enlighten me
>>739515564...do you want to talk about the dedicated core or will you admit to your retardation?
>>739513121The captain's quarters are endgame stuff, but I think the other one has a code lying around somewhere.

for anyone who played early access with Sub 1, did they soft-encourage people to start new saves or just keep playing on their early access saves? it feels like it'd be better to start fresh from ground zero so you can naturally experience all the additions

>>739520015omg wow, this female looks STRONG. I wish I were as cool as this badass but unfortunately I'm a man :/
>>739520182I don't really mind her character, she comes off as a lot more genuine than the rest of the Subnautica cast which is like 99% cringe wimpy millennials.
>>739520182Good news, anon. You can always become a girl.
>>739520668I didn't mind her character in SN1 before she was repeated 12 times and made all the main and side characters. She was interesting as a butch and gruff survivalist, as a foil to Paul's uptight authoritarianism and Bart's well-meaning but weak pacifism, not as "omgomgomg it's Maida she survived a leviathan and then lived in its body cuz she's soooo strong" that we later see. I mean look at how overdeveloped and experienced literally every female character is after her, it's ridiculous.
>>739520984The justification for her being in the arctic is a massive asspull and a major plothole but BZ was full of really dumb shit as a whole. Maida's more interesting now retroactively with the devs going full retard over the forced pacifism meme in 2. Anytime you see the SN2 devs sperg out about denying you weapons you can just point to Maida and undermine everything that comes out of their mouth. I don't know what brought on their retarded approach to combat but it's complete schizo behavior considering they STILL lionize her to this day.

I guess it doesn't matter because she has tits and a vag. Absolute fucking bullshit. I can understand having limited options for weaponry simply because this is a survival game and they don't want to make it too easy, but come the fuck on even with their bullshit plot about Alterra not wanting weapons, it wouldn't stop anyone from fashioning weapons out of jagged piece of metal...why not give players fucking options?Oh, that's right. >>739521476>There are mandatory upgrades to explore areas you will take hours to find that you just have to stumble across.>Materials? Fucking guess. >>739498105It was the best openworldsurvivalcraft game for a really long time. Nowadays suffers from not having a lot of the QoL features that Subnautica 2 has (that were implemented in other games, notably Grounded, first). Things like crafting requiring sifting through inventories and that sort of stuff is gone with crafting from storage now, which mods /can/ fix in Sub1.Still, in my experience, it remains unmatched in guiding the player without needing the kind of intrusive quest markers and hand holding a lot of games rely on. For long stretches you're just left to figure out where to go and what you need to do. Letting the player explore and find new biomes, areas and mapping the area out themselves.
>>739526230I'm talking about Subnautica 2. In that game you're not allowed to kill anything.
>>739526293>why does this unfinished game have lots of critiques?Galactic cerebrum
>>739498879im gonna be optimistic yet on the fence, at one point, multiplayer is good for being isolated in a world full of water, which is a next step from their successor. On the other hand, whatever ongoing developments happening right now will be mix and match as time goes on until fill release. Hopefully each updates that are bad will be taken care of instead of blaming the players, tho the creature killing drama is already impacted how the game will go forward.....
>>739521434>I don't know what brought on their retarded approach to combatI can kind of see an angle because horror games lose all tension when you have a weapon.if you can kill the monsters they're no longer scary they're just "bosses" to beat, rather than make your weapons not work they should just make them all super deadly.on the flip side they haven't really been that great at making scary sea-monsters anyway, the leviathan from the first game was pretty good but the dragon and everything since has looked goofy as hell.
>>739521710I stumbled across everything in the whole game, I never read any of the stuff or paid attention, I just went places.
>>739527579Critique all you want, whining that it isn't done is retarded.
>>739500759Just admit you lost lil bro
Im playing below zero at the moment because it's on sale and I dont wanna play EA.it really is a pale imitation of the first game, I dunno what they were thinking.>slower swim speed>slower main vehicle.>50% of this underwater game's map is on land.>map so small the player gets lithium and nickle 5 minutes in 400m from spawn.>deepest part of the edge of the map is like 250m.>the "spooky" leviathan is a giant sardine>talk talk talk talk talk talk talk talk.the QOL stuff is nice at least.
I wonder how they feel looking at their metrics and seeing 90% of the player base picked the non-black male character in 2.
>>739528209Damn, that was a hell of a delayed response.
>>739507217agreed. seems like they could fix that in an hour.
i just beat itwhat was the point of the time capsule in the rocket
>>739529159It appears in some other fag's world when they play
>>739529159other players find your capsules, I found one with all the prawn suit arms I didnt have yet.
>>739498105>makes game that runs like shit>abandons it>makes game that runs like shit>abandons it>makes game that runs like shitWhat's there to say? It's a shame they're making bank. That's about it
>>739528034I am judging your game exactly as it is. If it is unfinished then that is a major strike against it. I don't care if it COULD be completed later on, it is not complete now. Nothing about judging a product that is being offered for a price against its peers is in any way unusual.
My main base in the Northwestern Mushroom Forest. Not quite done yet.
>>739529159It can end up in other people's games
>>739498105Everything's better, down where it's wetter, under the sea.
Boring, no combat, nothing to do, boring story, boring base building, boring enemies, boring boring boring boring
I want to fuck the fish
I loved subnauticia but man, there is zero reason to not build a base in the safe shallows.
>>739531669Outposts with a scanner room near areas with a particular resource you need are pretty useful imho
>>739531823Eh, I never had much of a problem finding anything. But I see the vision.
>>739498105Don't care for the setting. Would rather play planet crafter or other such games where you get to be on land.Otherwise enjoyable just going around collecting shit and making a nice base.
>>739498105S1 was pretty good. Unfortunately it doesn't have too much replay value and suffers from a lack of QoL. Handles progression and exploration very well and each new area is usually some sort of visual treat mixed with new dangers.SBZ I played for a little bit in EA and never went back to it. It was pretty clear they didn't understand what made the original great and were just being fucking retarded with it. I also remember the MC chatting up a fucking storm and a disgusting jeet PDA. No thanksS2 has been a lot of fun so far. Fixes a lot of the QoL stuff the first one was missing and despite the game never letting you sit with your thoughts with how much fucking dialogue there is, it's no where near as cringe as in BZ and I'm actually interested in seeing where they go with it. The devs shitting and pissing themselves over players wanting to defend themselves is slightly concerning, but they've stated they're going to focus on making non-lethal ways to deal with things better so... fingers crossed. I wouldn't say it's as good as the first yet, but it's definitely a strong contender and anything was better than that aborted fetus BZ
>>739513616>the whole mapYou can get three of the four ingredients within like 10 feet of each other.
>>739532082I dont mind not killing them as a game mechanic but your only defense being a flare and a sound gun that only kind of works is terrible.
>>739532082You will swim away from everything and avoid everything and you will like it, goy. Don't even think about defending yourself. It's wrong and good goyim don't like fighting because of school shootings that happened 15 years ago.
>>739526406Get a job you fat loser
>>739527532Who cares? Later you’ll likely be able to, it was never a focus in the earlier games anyway and it was hilariously clunky and un immersive. Fuck off with your manufactured outrage nigger.
>>739531963The point is that its in water dumbass, its the purpose of the game hence the title. >hurr durr I don’t like shooters heres ny thoughts on battlefield
>>739532082The worst thing about the story focus in BZ is that the tacked on story ends up being fucking stupid and pointless. Turns out big bad Alterra was correct and she was in fact a negligent retard who got innocent people killed and no one calls her out on this fact in the game.>hallucinate schizo delusions about Alterra using Kharaa bacterium as a bioweapon>synthesize an antidote>don't use the antidote, instead hide it in some random ice cave>try to bomb the excavation site>get caught and detonate the bomb, killing yourself and an innocent coworker>excavation site remains intact anyway
>>739498105not having weapons is retarded, the rest is real good.
>>739532930it's a game retard.subnautica is hardly unique in the openworldsurvivalcrafting genre.the point is to explore and collect shit.you would not compare it to a spongebob squarepants game just because it is in water.
>>739533324Its a survival crafting game called subnautica which uses the roots sub and nautic which mean “under water” you fucking moron. Its the entire premise and identity of the game.
>>739498105I don't get why they listed the reaper's length at 55 meters when he's not even half that in the game.Just compare his size to the player model and it's not even close.
>>739533373no that's just the setting.the gameplay would not fundamentally change if you were in any other environment where you could not breathe.do you think 3d mario games are fundamentally incomparable to crash bandicoot because he's in the mushroom kingdom?autism
>>739504681the subnautica 2 bases look so much worse. I appreciate what they were goin with for the customizable room shapes; but the modular structures themselves have so much less character. The moonpool is the biggest downgrade.
>>739532792scamming and bootlicking doesn't count, you skeletal incel.
>Play subnautica 1>Crash on a planet all alone with a PDA that gives you pointers once in a while, find a few alien ruins around with some abandoned human bases that you find with notes and SOS signals>Design is pretty good, predators hide well to fuck you up>Audio design is god tier, you'll get more scared of the sound than the visuals>Upgrades are insanely powerful, a seamoth is game changer, same with cyclops>Cylinder bases because deep sea>Play Subnautica 2>AI won't shut up for 5 seconds>Leave pod, human bases everywhere with more talking>Human research stations everywhere there's no bases>Upgrades barely do anything, tadpole is nice for oxygen but you have oxygen plants everywhere>Everything glow in the dark, predators are so colorful you could see them from miles away if the fog wasn't so bad>Cube bases because the focus is making comfy bases so you're never stressedIt's impressive how they didn't understand a single thing about Subnautica 1
They fired a guy for his tweets. The original composer. IIRC he was a chud who complained about immigration and whatever. What he thought and complained about does not matter to me. What matters to me is that no one should be fired for, and thus be afraid of, voicing their opinions. As long as they aren't doing anything illegal, and they don't sneak their opinions into their game against the wishes of the rest of the team, it should be allowed. In my opinion you shouldn't support these kind of teams. Regardless of whether the people they fire are leftists or rightists.
>>739534124I wouldn't care that he was fired for political reasons if they had hired a comparable or better composer. The music was downgraded, so the game is worse. That is what people should consider when deciding if they want to buy BZ or 02.
>>739533990Also in below zero>space between biomes doesn't make sense>move one inch and the entire colour scheme around you changes>the water even changes colour between biomes that are right next to eachotherI didn't like the abyss on the edges of the map of 1 but below zero straight up felt cramped all the time
>>739498105Is it worth waiting for a VR headset before playing this for the first time?
>>739514237The actual unironic explanation for her survival is that she did kill the leviathan and coasted along inside its corpse until it got to the BZ area, eating it out from within to live, and that eating it also treated the Kharaa because it just apparently had that enzyme all throughout its meat.
>>739530707Nice look, I like the symmetry. You should add some spotlights to give it some flair.
>>739532856The devs have already explicitly stated you will not be able to kill any fish. It doesn't matter that it was a focus, it was something you could do. In this game you have a fuckton of annoying fish peppering you and you have to drop some gayass bait or use a retarded adaptation instead of, you know, FUCKING STABBING IT
>>739537264Which is just absofuckinglutely retarded. Like they all could have just killed a tyrant and chowed off its asscheeks and they would have been fine. So fucking stupid, it shows how negligent they are with their own creation.
>>739530707did they backport the large rooms to subnautica 1? I dont remember having them
>>739538669In the Living Large update they added the Large Room and its accompanying content to the first game.
>>739538652It sort of explains why Kharaa never kills Dios Mio after two weeks in the first game since he can just keep eating the wildlife to stall it. Still, retarded.
>>739538571kinda wild because anyone even tangentially related to ocean stuff in the real world; biologists, ecologists, fisherman, underwater welders, anything you can think of - are all always stabbing fish to death.
>>739538925https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ot7_xcdMS2kNot always
>>739532082should be more concerned about them shitting and pissing themselves over defending yourself from man eating fish.is this a "the liberals are siding with the bugs" situations again?
>>739512240>with unnecessarily drawn-out whiney dialogue from a million girlbossesthey really rug pulled everyone early with having the main AI voices be pleasant native English speakers only to then have EVERY SINGLE audio tape be read by a kaleidoscope of thirdie accents and girlbosses who're all special geniuses
>>739533907The S1/BZ moonpool has problems.>hard to reach the docked vehicle to repair it without falling into the water>the walkways are awkwardly narrow on the sides of the moonpool room where they pass the gangways>can only choose between two orientations (instead of the expected four) both of which depend on the original "orientation" of the connected base and cannot be changed without rebuilding the whole base from scratch
stopping a predator from feeding on its natural prey "you" is deeply problematic and colonialist
>>739539647>EVERY SINGLE audio tape be read by a kaleidoscope of thirdie accents and girlbosses who're all special geniusesThey're all permanently dead though.
>>739538925and even worse, this is an alien world. Why in the FUCK would I be worried about killing random fish on a planet on the ass end of the galaxy I've never heard of? What?
>>739540084Maybe. Even in death they are all so fucking competent and awesome at what they do, thank god we had 40 minutes of dialogue telling us how fucking amazing they all are.
>>739533907I agree with the Moonpool, but I think the base-building is a step forward mechanically. They simply need more shapes and the capability to build less rigidly. For example, I have a base right outside the Alien Ruins signal. It's on an upper shelf right outside the main cathedral buidling. The base is perched on a shelf, right above a large domed cave with a gap in the dome for a Moonpool. What I want is to be able to design a base that scallops over the edge, with an elevator that moves downwardly 20 meters to a room which has hallways branching to a sub-base under the dome. But I'm limited, because any elevator can only be built in a room directly one floor below another room. It's little shit like that that get annoying. Let me create my fucking Rapture cities. This is where they need to innovate, not their stupid plot. We need base stability, we need damage from predators to be raise immensely, and we need ways to kill fish. This is a survival game, or should be.
>>739498105Best survival game ever made.
>>739539647I actually had to turn on the subtitles because they laid the accents on too thick. Like goddamn I get it everyone in the future is so fucking diverse, can you please just condense it into a single foreigner accent and just tone it down a bit? Fucking hell
>>739540854I'd like to see bases be able to take damage from certain creatures - not most creatures but there should be some that can mess with your base. Then there'd have to be some way to defend your base, some electronic device or sometihng that you have to keep powered or the creature will attack your base and ruin it.It'd be neat too if some tentacled monster (the Collector maybe) could reach in through base entrances / moonpool and grab stuff from your base and take it away. Then the devs could add bulkheads to stop the tentacles from getting to your storage room.
>>739540464How are the competent and amazing when they're all going insane and dying in horrible ways and being reprinted so much their bodies are falling apart and their minds are decomposing?
>>739514513Don't forget the dead rising franchise
>>739541110This, I also can't handle anything different, games need to make all the characters one race, one gender, one voice, one nationality.
>Shiver being the deadzone leviathan is a temporary placeholder>Shiver is supposed to have her own biome >We haven't seen the real deadzone leviathan
>>739541335I don't know why they didn't just make everyone Maori or some flavor of Pacific islander, it would get all the leftists onboard with the fat brown people and it would make for a cohesive design element. These fuckers need to at least just make it consistent, fucking hell.
It's a good thing they're still doing the candy graphics or these games might actually be scary.
>>739541584what did he mean by this
>>739541598He means he's a safe shallows baby
>>739541490Wonder how freaky they're going this time. Sub1 just had bigger Ghosts, BZ had a spooky recolor of the Chelicerate. The Elusive Leviathan just appears occasionally, shows off, then vanishes in magical farts.
>>739541541Seriously, the very idea of people of different nationalities being in the same place insults and infuriates me.
>>739541658Hey, that lightning eel's not supposed to be there!
I think S2 map sucks.
>>739541813
>>739541670Since gene splicing and sharing DNA seems to be all the rage on Proteus, it's time for some horrific human-fish hybrid leviathans. Bust out The Thing and Alien Resurrection monsters.
>>739541914We already had this design with the Sea Dragon and Sea Emperor.
>>739542015Those were goofy looking lizards. Instead, pic related could be waiting for you at the bottom of the Great Trench.
>>739542205we already have THREE themes in the game, we dont need another one
>>739542205Animals with human faces are not scary.
>>739498105nice adventure experience for children
>>739541914That seems more like an idea for the final leviathans at the tree rather than the void
>>739542321You incorporate a base human element and add/remove parts until it gets uncanny. The Reaper has an angry old man face but the mandibles are what really makes your monke brain get nervous. They resemble large insect pincers/spider fangs and that causes a primal fear response.
>>739542556I don't see anything human in that face. That's why it's scary.
>>739542205No no, see what you have to do is leave in a vestigial human face, but the actual animal face is the one that's animate and alert so it makes you wonder if the human is still conscious in there while an alien lifeform has taken over entirely.
>>739541695Right, you would think if they were all sourced from the same colony they'd had more of a universalized dialect, but I guess not. Shit racist game.
If everyone's fucking dead by the time you get to the power plant and didn't get any further than that, is that the end of the PDAs? Are they gonna spread out the wrecks and existing PDAs to the surrounding biomes or what? The EA shallows is pretty dense in terms of yap content.
>>739512902Funny how anti-killing they pretend to be when they lionized her for it
>>739542596
>>739542365Bit scary for kids I think but yeah the difficulty is very low. Which is fine, not every game needs to be a mega hardcore extreme grindfest.
>>739544537This EA version is extremely easy for the time being. Structural integrity is coming along with vehicle destruction and actual enemy balancing. Right now is gigababy mode.
>>739541713huh? yes it is
I fucking hate how they're rehashing the same shitty story for S2. It's so easy to do something more with this. I don't care about another crash landing, another evil corpo to "rebel" against, another virus. Another colonising mission where you're the only fucking person there. Here subnautica devs, have this one for free:> We're on Titan or some other icy moon> Big ocean under a couple km of ice, kept warm due to tidal forces> Used to be a human civilisation there but it's dead> First cutscene, we drill. It's a long way down> Down to the bottom we go> Going to need to set up a base down here it's too far to keep going up> Naive crew member keeps saying there might be survivors down here>> We're on an archaeology mission kid, this place has been dead for decades> The language is partially unknown so you can do the word translating like the alien language in S1> Crew members sending you messages about the cool shit they find> Make sure they're likeable so it hits hard when some get lost and die> Big story event about the borehole getting unstable and you have to extract the remaining crew temporarily> Story events about finding intact buildings from the old civilisation> How did they die? Who knows. Someone still alive? Why not, but only if you took all the dialog options where you refuse to believe in it.This shit literally writes itself, hire me shitters, why oh why another exactly the same story it's so fucking lazy.
>>739544632Was talking about the first game but yeah this EA is even easier. That's to be expected though so can't really complain about that.
>>739545003>I fucking hate how they're rehashing the same shitty story for S2.I don't think it's the same story. Rescue and escape is impossible, you're likely going to die on this gay alien planet.Unless something really fucking stupid happens at the end like Robin and ALAN pop through a phasegate asking you to join the Marvel Subvengers.
>>739544537how the fuck do you even make a hard survival horror game in the first place?
>>739545196> You got sent to the wrong planet> The one that already had functioning colonies on it>> No we can't pick you upWhat is this retardation.
>>739545196> If you die we can just print you back out wherever> Nope absolutely no way of getting back to another planet ever!!The more I think about it the worse this whole thing is sounding jesus christ what a load of bollocks.
how long do we have to wait till they add the cyclops to subnautica 2 so we finally get 3d barotrauma
>>739545265>>739545338You've been told it's only been 30 years. It's actually been over 250 years since the crash. There have been over 56,000 reprints before NoA woke you up. That's how fucking grim your situation is.
Usually I'm all chill with stylized graphics but the underwater genre would benefit greatly from a game that visually focused on realistic aestheticsAlso with way more darkness as you descend further with weirder and stranger alien life
>>739498105pretty much THE "bit scary/atmospheric survival with crafting" gamelightning in the bottle so many tried to copy (including the same studio with BZ) and mostly failednot a perfect game by far, but kinda, a staple of gaming? A bit of a milestone. Worth a shot I think
>>739504681>Phenomenal sound design, these guys were fucking insane to fire that guy over a jokeIt's such a detriment to Below Zero and 2. I don't think it can be overstated how truly awful a decision that was.
>>739545441> Your situation is grim dude>> How?> In the backstory, not in any way in the game itself smileyfaceEver hear of show don't tell. All we're shown is the same crash landing, the same virus, the same corpo. What am I to expect except that we'll once again find the cure and find a way to get out?
>>739545441sauce my ass, right?
>>739545949get out to where? you're the last human remaining (or last two since Riley is canonically invincible) because Kharaa somehow fucking exploded to the entire universe.
>>739545398>3d barotrauma without the guns nukes and clowns
>>739546091Why do we need to assume that's true. We're not shown this anywhere in the game. Also if we're the last human alive who the fuck is running Alterra and why would we listen to them. It's trash.Listen to yourself, Kharaa virus was cured but now somehow infects the entire universe, ok except this planet which you accidentally landed on but guess what we got Kh-.. sorry Protoavirus. Fuck off get some new material.Yeah we can just print you out 56.000 times in different shapes too but nooo we couldn't possibly print out all four characters and make them fuck, or any of the dead ones which you find dna of, it's against the law you know, you're the last human in the universe but we gotta obey the law. Come on man.
>>739498105done it on youtubenice storydont gona buy
>>739545950The Axum recorded a great catastrophe 250 years ago. There are Axum language symbols that say humans are thieving pests and traps need to be set. The power plant turbines were intentionally sabotaged with thermite explosives 250 years ago. Without the power plant, the Axum devolved over hundreds of years into Tailings.Colonists later say they encountered these Tailings who are hunting and attacking humans remarking that "someone made a mistake a long time ago". Full purge resets have happened many times so the reprinted colonists do not know why the Tailings hate them.
>>739546520>the alien vault underneath the world tree is actually the main colonist databankI believe it
>>739546520Ah yes. There used to be a great Alien civilisation on this planet. May I see them? NO they're dead. Here's some ruins and a few words in their language for you.How is this not a literal copy/paste from the first game?
>>739547215>How is this not a literal copy/paste from the first game?In what sense? Because it's not a literal copy and paste. You could it having been inspired, I guess.
>>739542596It's scary because you only see it on a subconscious level.
>>739539286these exact people have a video of them sucking a jellyfish into the props, albeit by accident but still funny.
>>739541541>Maori or some flavor of Pacific islanderI would play a game where all the characters are this, I grew up with them and I enjoy their humor and mannerisms.
I tried to play it in vr, because why else would you play an underwater game, but the hud doesn't display properly, if they fix this I will feel positive about it, if not I will not even bother to play the game.
is BZ worth finishing? I just finished scanning the processing unit stuff so I need to build that and go back to the angry woman.I just spend a bunch of time exploring the lifeless ass map and unless there's some kino in the story or a reason to go 700m deep I dunno if I give a shit.
>>739547752Mute dialogue and it's more bearable
>>739547752eh, the deep very caves were somewhat cool I guess
