Literally all they've been doing with Fortnite in UE5 is making every asset "streamed" so the game is always laggy and shitty no matter what even after shader caching, even shit as tiny and insignificant in filesize as album art in the Rock Band mode is streamed and the game just plays roulette with art the first time you load in and always gets it wrong. INTRODUCING: EPIC AINOW YOU CAN VIBE CODE IN UNREAL 6 USING GOOGLE GEMINI OR MICROSOFT COPILOT. "UNREAL ENGINE: MAKE ME A 2D SIDESCROLLER" "UNDERSTOOD, HUMAN, I AM GENERATING YOUR SIDESCROLLER NOW"USE YOUR EPIC+ SUBSCRIPTION TO ACCESS ALL AI FEATURES LIKE "CODE REVIEW" AND "DEBUG" MODE.SYSTEM REQS: 100,000 GB RAM, 500,000,000 TB DISC SPACENo but for real though, this is definitely not going to be an improvement at all. We don't need any new game engines because they aren't adding anything good, they are just adding more bloat and garbage. We need them to start making their engines smarter and easier to use. For example, Unity is retarded and the "DEFAULT" setting for GUI is ABSOLUTE PIXEL SIZE and not SCALE WITH SCREEN SIZE. How fucking retarded can Unity be to have absolute size be the default initial value for UI elements and not "scale relative to resolution" like are you genuinely retarded. We need engines that are smarter not retarder. Stop creating hype for UE6 I guarentee all the games on this engine are going to be slop nonsense and it's going to make it even harder to be a dev unless you have a big team and it'll probably have some retarded new license policy too that makes you pay them 100,000 dollars per year to use the engine commercially. Lol.
Ok. I just felt the vibe shift.
>>739501550>For as long as software lumen is used performance will be abysmal in futurePeople still have misconception that hardware lumen has better performance than software lumen. They think about old games that have software/hardware renderers, or about console emulators with software/hardware features. But it's different with lumen. Hardware lumen has way worse performance because it does way more things than software lumen. And actual RT like for example the one implemented by NvRTX is even slower.

So what are the chances that the engine is better than 5 since it was unsalvageable, or is this going to be much much worse since it is probably rushed.
>>739506358>they just want to merge the game into one slopped versionI'm pretty sure they're aiming to do more than that. They're aiming to essentially become the new Roblox, where Fortnite+UE6 are a platform instead of anything else. I believe some of their aims was to eventually merge Fortnite and Unreal Engine in their entirety, and to make it so every future UE game is launched through Fortnite. Or some shit like that. It's fucking bleak, honestly.
SSFS is such a game changer that epic could buy the plugin and use that alone to announce UE6 or the next major iteration. It does nice things to the distant visuals more than gaytracing ever will.

>>739520671It's because nanite has so many limitations it can't even be used for many game objects. Like for example nanite couldn't be used with any skeletal meshes. Same for any meshes that use world position offset. WPO is often used for trees and vegetation movement/sway, so nanite couldn't be used for them. It's all has been fixed in later versions of the engine, but almost all games are still stuck on early UE5 versions.
>>739521916>Same for any meshes that use world position offset. The thing is it can use WPO and has been able too since like 5.1 or 2 can't remember. The thing is it uses the pixel programmable path for WPO which murders GPU costs and unless you use the distance setting to stop it after a certain distance but it has to be very conservative.A fun thing I learned is for Talos Principle 2 they have WPO enabled but only when the player is standing still, otherwise it's off.

The main feature of UE6 is going to be Verse, but it's not the language itself that matters but rather Verse Paths. Basically every asset in every UE project ever is going to have a globally unique identifier and can be optionally published and made available for other projects. They will probably make some Fortnite and Rocket League stuff available generally even outside of UEFN. They will probably add a way to publish UEFN games outside of Fortnite as standalone packages, and probably allow non-UEFN games inside of Fortnite which they had been planning originally when they announced their partnership with Unity. There's not really going to be many significant engine or rendering features, primarily just pipeline stuff.

Valve themselves use SSR now (CS2). I guess they want reflections on arbitrary geometry - but then they don't actually use SSR on anything that isn't mirror-like so it ends up only showing on water, which would look better with planar... seems like a half-baked tech demo, like someone at Valve just wanted to write SSR and used CS2 as the opportunity for it even though it doesn't make sense.

>>739509057 adding lua is an obvious move to try and capture roblox devs
>>739506458Terrible and completely pointless.Nanite runs like shit, creates shimmery artifacts, is incompatible with basically everything and then UEs jittery rendering and TAA destroys the very detail that you use Nanite for in the first place.
>>739554297>quoting wikipediahttps://developer.nvidia.com/gpugems/gpugems3/part-iii-rendering/chapter-16-vegetation-procedural-animation-and-shading-crysis>Finally we also use a precomputed ambient occlusion term stored in the vertex's alpha channel, which is painted by artists or computed using standard 3D modeling software.Who's retarded fucking nigger now? Kill yourself
>>739500027The movie industry is killing the gaming industry.
>>739556142Retarded fucking nigger spent an hour googling to find out artists paint shadows in textures. You would be surprised they still do it even today.Well, let's read the previous fucking sentence of that article>The way we handle outdoor and indoor ambient lighting is quite complex and would require two more chapters to explain; therefore, it's outside this chapter's scope.Well, guess what. They did release that explanation in a separate document, and it's really fucking easy to find it online. Pic related. Oh shit, it's actually real-fucking-time AO. What a fucking clown, hahaha.
>>739556556>t.
>>739556796Posting wojaks now as ad hominem? Very funny joke, zoomzoomGo back to shartie
>>739556796lmao, this is the most impotent seething reply I've got this monththank you
>>739556870Why are you replying to yourself?
>>739556861>posting wojaks as ad hominemSee>>739518897go back to reddÃt
>>739518897>lmao at your facedo epicjeets really?
>>739556796I look like this and I think Unreal Engine is great, it's only an issue with incompetent devs
/v/ is so dogshit, why does Tim want to advertise his next scam on this board again?
>>739500027Why did they stop making Unreal games to showcase their engine? Do they seriously think that cars hitting a giant ball is going to be an impressive showcase?
>>739500027You guys do realise that they're most likely just using parts of UE's new architecture that will be in UE6, it's not like they're building the game on an early build of UE6 because that shit would be buggy as hell and extremely unstable. Also UE6 is not releasing publically at any capacity for at least another 2-4 years, we might see the first limited previews next year at best
>>739557824Because ut2004 perfected the formula, and all content creation was offloaded to the community
>>739556556if the large scale AO in Crysis is actually real-time that's a surprise to me. I thought I knew everything about Crysis already. but I guess it had to be real-time to take the sun direction into account.
>>739558563>I thought I knew everything about Crysis alreadyUnless you are a dev you can't possibly know everything about a game
>>739531012kys newfag
>>739500073Tothe window (to da window)To the wall (to da wall)To the sweat drop down in falls (fall)To all these females crawl (crawl)To all skeet, skeet, skeet, skeet skeet skeet
None of this if you retards kept whitewashing snoy because of muh graphix and not pressured id to release idtech tools as valve cucking everyone with source 2.this trully is the time of ending, just let videogames die.
>>739557824they'd have to allow community servers againmodern UE netcode + epic servers probably can't handle 16-32 people being good at UT
>>739558172THE People who made 2004 are working on warframe, and Timmy was always jealous of Digital Extremes.Mainly because inhouse Unreal games were ass.
>>739557824Because 1 of those games made more money in a year than the hole company on it's lifespan. You retards think devs jump into micro transactions and gaas because they are evil or something.
>>739563993>from the CREATORS ofNah
>they delete rocket racing>but rocket league is okayEpic why
>>739559741even devs can't know everything about their game either. it's obvious hyperbole.
>>739501707Press + Button = Awesome
>>739500027hahaha yes! YES! hahahah>one step closer to being able to make a game with ZERO COMPUTER KNOWLEDGE thanks to AI!hahahahahahah YES! YESSS!!!
>>739542475unoptimized is kinda too vague and is used as a catch-all term by tech illiteratesthe biggest issue with UE is the amount of stuttering though. it's not just big shader or asset loading stutters, but also microstutters and inconsistent frametimes. a lot of UE games feel awful on weaker CPUs because you end up having a 30ms frametime in between all the 6ms and 7ms frames. you can't see it on the framerate counter and it barely even shows up in the frametime graph, but your brain does notice it. idk what exactly causes it a lot of time, but i think it's often bad blueprint scripting choking the main thread
>>739565652also it's not always a weak CPU issue. i have pic related in marvel rivals when equipping a specific Winter Soldier skin, and i have a 9800x3d. i think it is a faulty blueprint script but it might also be some sort of shader issue that i can't seem to resolve
>>739557824Have you not heard about UT4 which was made open source and was intended to be completely free? By being open source it meant that anyone could join and contribute to the development.Guess what, no one fucking cared. The game sources are still available on github. Do you think anyone picked up the project after Epic abandoned it? Nope. The era of simple arena shooters is simply over.
>>739502847Not a problem via the cloud.Hint hint
>>739554252SSAO is not baked, what the fuck not to mention it looks ugly anyway
>>739502213>nobody wants to use blueprintsi thought people like to use them because it was easier than c++
>>739502213Everyone uses blueprints. Just not for everything. For shaders blueprints are the standard because shaders tend to be made by artists
>>739535065>reverting to psx fog BASED!
>>739515171It baffles me how Ue3 can look as good as it does but everything after looks like plastic lifeless shit
>>739541307>counters your schizo babble with my own schizo babblelmao, fucking lmao
>>739567661he was talking about the splotchy large scale (!) ambient occlusion Crysis has on terrain and maybe rock and tree meshes. I also thought it was baked but apparently they calculated it in real-time so it could work with dynamic time of day.
>>739500027>UESlop6
>>739572448Crytek largely moved away from baking and static lighting with Crysis/Cryengine 2A few things still are baked but it's usually stuff that takes no time like reflection probes
>>739572534>grift interactive
>>739566115>Have you not heard about UT4no>no one fucking caredwell maybe people would fucking care if we actually heard about it
So we accept that UE6 will be the best game engine, and all others should be made illegal, in the same way linux will be illegal soon.
>>739575420LolLmao
>>739575125It was promoted, it was shown on gameshows, it was available for free beta testing, anyone could install and play it, and their Epic Launcher had a separate tab just for Unreal Tournament 4.Here's some random video from youtube:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A_LrzeBSoMIAs you can see it was pretty far into development cycle, it looks more finished than lots of BR and hero shooter flops we get nowadays. If you haven't heard about it, it's probably because you were a consolefag.
>>739501038>How is UE6 supposed to be any better?UE6 = UE5 + AI
>>739575627Are you having a seizure?
>>739500027The reason why I stopped gamedev on UE5 is because the single core problemUE6 is being developed around using more cores/threads on your CPU, so it'll likely be way better
