Yes, you heard it right
I am looking for educational games

They can be about learning languages, specific subjects, engineering, or anything related to those areas, including history.

Basically, any game that teaches real world knowledge or skills.

what do you guys reckon caused kids these days to be unable to read books? i know back inna day there were kids that read a ton of books and overtime they started reading less and less as stuff like vidya and movies became more common, but none of them stopped loving books, even with a world of other entertainment they still read one now and then, but everyone i know born after 2010 who isn't a sperg thinks reading a book is genuinely such a difficult endeavor that getting through one (1) is an intellectual challenge on par with deciphering the rossetta stone and i'm wondering if it's just the shit they consume or the meds or a lack of proper education in favor of handholding emotional validation or maybe all of those combined

anyone who genuinely believes any medium, especially one as robust as books, is obsolete and no story or narrative can be most effectively told through it and needs to "modernize" to another medium further up the hierarchy is a retard, on par with those normalfag people who think there's a comic => cartoon => live action movie hierarchy and then getting the latter is always the superior option

Grok generate me a pic of a young white boy in a library holding a ribbon in his left and and in his right hand a paper satubf he read 1,000 books. Give the boy a bowl but and a slightly smug expression, have him standing in a library with an old man in the background wearing a face mask. Make image photorealiatic with realiatic lighting and textures. 8K shot on iPhone 15 natural lighting.

He's probably reading kid's books, not LotR.
A picture book can have, like, 500 words. Cat in the Hat was ~250 words.
So, theoretically, kid's read 250,000 - 500,000 words.
LotR is ~576k words
It's really good for a kid, but you've probably read more.

Oh, and if you read manga at all..
Lets say you read Dragonball and One Piece.
Well Dragonball was 42 volumes and One Piece is at 111 or so. That's 153 books right there.
Naruto went to 72 and Bleach was 74.
That's 299 books and it's just the big shonen titles.

Part of it is that Apple sponsors most schools now, so they're forcing Ipads in their faces from Pre-K to make early tech addicts of them or else the school loses their sponsorship and the budget gets sunk by tech costs.
The current system is designed to make kids drooling mouthbreathers and irreparably damage their capacity for any kind of independent thought from the start, at least in the U.S.
No idea how it is in other countries.

Carmen Sandiego games are educational, but what people usually don't get is that they're teaching you how to look up and reference data. You're expected to have an almanac with you when you play those games. Playing those games entirely on personal knowledge is Extreme Difficulty. Especially by today's educational standards.

assuming the numbers are U.S. related or even accurate to begin with I'd argue it's because there's a fuckton of immigrants both illegal and legitimate that have moved in causing the numbers to be skewed. It's not so much that literacy is tanking and more that English literacy needs to be learned by the immigrant generations that come after. I imagine that number will balance back out in the next 10 or so years.

It's not just immigration, it's how people are being taught to read. Rote memorization is looked down upon recently. So we're teaching kids how to look at words and pronounce their letters, but they're not learning the words themselves. They can read sentences, but they don't know what the words mean. If you can't interpret sentences, reading a book is beyond understanding.

I hate seeing parents shove ipads in the faces of little kids
Do you know how easy it is to entertain a kindergartner? Play with them, give em some sensory toy or some paper and crayons, anything ffs... And then they have the audacity to say "well the kid is begging for it, how can I NOT give it to them?" nigger how would they know it exists if they didn't get hooked on it in the first place? >it's the immigrants' fault that Millennial teachers are lazy retards
>>
>>739505465
The real issue regarding literacy is that kids aren't learning to pronounce phonetic sounds. Everything else is downstream of that. Common Core is the reason for the changes, btw, and the reason Common Core became a standard was to help underachievers who couldn't keep up with the standards. Those underachievers, outside of inner city schools, were predominately Hispanic immigrants.

I'm not going to say every parent born before the 1940s was magically good, but there has definitely been a decline in how well parents raise their kids in the last century. Technology is now used to parent kids rather than being just a tool to help in one aspect of parenting and/or a reward for good work. It's really no surprise that Gen Alpha is so dumb when their parents think it's only the job of their teachers to teach them school lessons in addition to morals, manners, etc.
>>
>>739506335
you know how every gen parents used to be seen as "uncool" but they didn't care cause they knew better?
well this generation's parents became so deathly afraid of being seen as uncool because people these days are more hypersocialized than ever and are bigger cattle to the social hivemind than ever before, so they're afraid of taking bad things out of their kids' hands and banning mindrotting media lest the other girlypop mommies at the epic tiktok wine and book club think they're not kewl, so they let their kids brain go to mush just to maintain their social standing

family used to come before trends, that's no longer the case

We did one of these programs with our kid, and they got their certificate by two years old, I think. We're talking a lot of board books, but also some toddler picture books and stuff to keep us sane. It's just to get them accustomed to seeing reading and hearing reading. The kid is four now and we'll often bring home a new easy reader and they'll blow through it like they've read it multiple times. Sometimes I don't even know how they recognize some of these words.

>>739505074
Seuss is brutal.
The kid loves Wocket. I've read it so many times. They have it memorized, too, and will walk around reciting it all the time.
