I like how that and pic related dropped around the same time and both bombed spectacularly. Imagine having a black woman astronaut on the cover of your game and thinking anyone will want it
>>
Since it is just a movie anyway have any entertaining streamers played it?
>>
>>739512636
It's because she's the one ""famous"" actor for this game, they always put them on the cover. Like Shawn Ashmore for Man of Medan and Ashley Tisdale for House of Ashes. The OP chick appeared in the latest Bond movie and such.
>>
>>739512417
It's better than Little Hope and Devil in Me, but worse than House of Ashes. Probably Medan-tier.
>>
>>739512417
People only cared about Until Dawn (2015)

>>"oh yeah, that just happened"
Its just not got the sauce of those other three. It feels half assed in so many ways. Obviosuly none of the VAs are in the same room as each other but no efforts been made to try and make the characters sound like they're having an actual conversation. The gameplay is aggressively subpar as its the usual QTE stuff with occasional bad stealth sections. And to top it all off the twist is shockingly bad, the idea of clones being sent to fight a monster that can mimmick people is good but its asinine how they just keep sending clones with no new knowledge to fight the fucker. Especially when they acknowledge that they all just keep dying at the end its just subpar

You can suspend your disbelief when its dumb teenagers saying and doing dumb shit, but the characters in this game are supposed to the smartest and most capable engineers they have.
Plot is actually fucking retarded too. Yeah we know Moon exists, sci-fi has been ripping it off for years now.
>>
The modern audience is dead

Cute dog.
>>
>>739512417
The plot twist was so egregiously retarded that it managed to pierce all possible suspension of disbelief
>>
>>739512417
It's just a poorly written story with unlikable characters in a game whose sole appeal is supposed to be the story and characters.
>>
You can easily tell from the cover why nobody liked it.
>>
I like their other games. I'm not buying a game with a black chick on the cover though. That's retarded.

>>

The series has gone on too long for what little gameplay there is to still be so terrible.
>>
>>739519351
Yeah but this one's even worse than normal
>>
>>739512417
imagine if little hope had 27 "crouch walk around chest high walls from the same copy pasted model meant to be dozens of monsters" slow mandatory stealth segments AND flash forwards to show all but one of the cast makes to the end where a single 45 second quick time event kills as many off as possible because they didnt write enough dialogue for all of them at the end. Also like little hope the end twist is obvious to anyone but a brainlet from the start.

Let me save you the time and money: the planet is where the vampires from house of ashes came from and something left behind after they fled to earth turned into the thing and your crew are clones and they send the same ship of clones every 4 months to get attacked to try and learn how to control the creature to turn its ability to replicate matter into an infinite star trek replicator cheat to save a dead earth.

They should have just had them be clones sent on a dangerous mining run and the monster turns out to be what happens when a clone hits its experation date.

Its fucked up, and i'm certainly no racist, but enough are that a black woman on the box is a detriment to sales. Microsoft had to sit down the Fable 2 devs and tell them if they did that as was the original plan the game was going to die and they would shut down the studio. Its super fucked since these are fictional characters and can do and be anything but people see a black woman in a lead role as "uppity" and "too combative". Its why so many more ads are black man and white woman than the other way around.

The fact Pat from superbestfriends wife predicted the whole plot in the first 15 minutes and, to be kind, she is actually a bit slow and has ADD shows you how shallow the writing is.

It rivals frank stone as their worst game. And the only reason I think the casting of frank stone is worse is because that game is paying for a literal advertisement with a retarded ending. In every other regard its better than this pile of shit.
>>
>>739522968
Reminder Frank Stone -a game that only existed as a push by Dead By Daylight to grow in the normie sector of the market- was so bad they ended up scrapping the killer planned for DBD after all the big streamers that play DBD failed to even finish the game because they were bored, insulted or simply wanted to do other things with their time.

A game being so bad it gets things in other games cancelled is a new one to me.

Did they? I thought that shit became extremely niche after Until Dawn
>>

Until Dawn had Sony step in, see the potential, then bring in Hollywood film writers to punch up and rewrite most of the dialogue and ending. This was not the case for their future games but it created a false expectation so people keep buying these hoping they will have lightning in a bottle a second time but the people who made Until Dawn the other darling of the PS4's launch window after Bloodborne aint making these games.

For the most part the supermassive writers seem to be "dude, wouldn't it be cool if-" idea guys that take existing ideas and go "so its like X but also Y?" and expect it to blow your mind despite their attempts at foreshadowing spoiling everything for people with the most basic media literacy and people do strange out of character things because they need the plot to advance and dont know how and decided fuck it. Its your average nepo baby getting his made for sci-fi writing job because of his dad being an excec at a company and thinking hes an artiste' when really he couldn't write for marvel comics.

It's so lame when a horror monster just turns into a wall of flesh, teeth and tentacles for the finale. It's so played out.
>>
Why are almost half the death scenes backloaded into the last scene? Are other Supermassive games like this, too?
>>
>>739530353
Some more than others. There's generally always a character or two that have plot armor 'til the end. Mike and the blonde chick in Until Dawn or the black dude in Devil in Me, for example. It seems like in this game they wanted to play up the whole mimick "oOoOO wonder if the person I'm with is real or not!" shtick so they made characters harder to kill.
>>
>>739512636
Meanwhile Starfield pandered to chuds and it's the best selling game of the month. Racists win again.
>>
The creature is supposed to be somewhat intelligent, yet it never thought to guard the reactor meltdown terminal room, its only real weakness, with like half a dozen monsters or a bunch of tentacles or anything.
>>
>>739531005

>>739531115
>>739531005
Moreover, I thought the entire reason behind those multiple-key systems was that the keyholes are so far apart as to make it impossible for a single person to trigger it even if they have all the keys...but in the game, the slots for the keys are right next to each other.

The alien is basically whatever the devs wanted it to be in that specific scene.
In one moment it's smart enough to be a universe rank #1 impostor perfectly mimicking humans for hours, in the next it's a mindless killing machine attacking anything that moves.
As an anon said in one of the threads shortly after release "don't give it too much thought, the devs didn't either", which kind of sucks when the alien is the only potentially interesting thing in this.
>>
Eisele and Anders were the only good characters in the game. Only intelligent ones.
>>
>>739532224
Did you too catch it when Stafford's VA accidentally said "Aizel" instead of "Eizley"?
>>
I can't recall a single track from the game's OST. That's not a good sign.
>>
>>739531005
i think at this point in time the creature is just using the clones as an active food source
>>
The game shows that the creature can feel pain, but when the fake Williams starts burning to death, it just looks confused. Same goes for the fake Stafford that ends up getting incinerated.

Also why do they have a trash incinerator to begin with. Just toss it out of the airlock. Space is really fucking big.

>Imagine having a black woman astronaut on the cover of your game and thinking anyone will want it
It's wild to me that these studios either:
1. Dont realize this is a bad tactic and are somehow naive even after all this time
2. they know their woke shit will bomb but dont care any way
Suppose there is a 3rd option where all these studios are full of mentally ill people who live in total delusion.
>>
>>739532315
I did, in one of the early chapters. I didn't know how to pronounce her name for a bit because of that, thought different characters pronounced it differently but no, the VA just screwed up and nobody noticed.

>>
>>739533359
In that lab scene where they analyze the blob they also show the creature has some telepathic powers because both unconnected blobs react when they shock(? can't remember) one of them, yet in the stealth segments you run over countless biomass patches and the monsters don't react at all but instead the game makes you avoid shards of glass because apparently it can hear that.
There are so many things that don't really make sense.
>>
>>739512417
What I've gathered from what I've seen on youtube the stealth sections are a massive time blow that all suck. When your strength is narrative and choices, it turns out "walk around for 15 minutes" really kills your momentum.
>>
>>739520945
>but people see a black woman in a lead role as "uppity" and "too combative"

I think it's because gamers don't want to be a black woman in a video game. Being too combative is a silly complaint for a video game.
>>
>>739534745
Yeah, that's the scene I was thinking of too. They have two blobs of goo and when one gets shocked a bit, both visibly recoil. Which really should have alerted the entire collective as to where they are, as you implied.

It's probably the seco best Dark Anthology game after House of Ashes. That doesn't mean 8020 is good, just that Medan, Little Hope and Devil in Me were that bad. Little Hope is irredeemable, Devil in Me was a boring premise with a medioc execution and a downright hateable cast, and Medan probably executes what it set out to do with its narrative better than 8020 but its cast is utterly forgettable while I can at least say I like a couple characters in this one. I like the flowchart taken straight out of Detroit, and the fact the characters' personalities seem to actually affect the story. I also appreciated the attempt at having actual gameplay this time around, exploring the ship, even if you can tell even in a first playt that the stealth sections are 100% scripted and the monster will always move to the same points A and B depending on what section of the level you're in. I feel like certain plot points weren't explained as well as they probably should've, like how feasible is it really to be able to mass produce 13+ Cassiopeias each of them with realistic props and books and food and handwritten notes and whatever else. I get the objective is Earth's survival so money would be the least of anybody's worries comparatively but still. Also liked how the game is a direct prequel to House of Ashes.
>>
>>739512417
Until Dawn was a one off, it was actually good, unironically the best of those interactive movie games. It's basically a Quantic Dream game if Quantic Dream wasn't run by pretentious faggots who think they can unironically compete with the movie industry. I wouldn't say everyone liked The Quarry seeing as that game sold so bad they were giving it away for free like a month after it came out. All The Dark Pictures games received meh reviews and meh sales.

Basically none of Supermassive's games have been roaring successes other than Until Dawn, which begs the question where they keep getting the money to pay Hollywood actors to appear in their games.

>>
>>739535283
Because white people are obsessed with them and demand them in all their entertainment, for reasons completely beyond my understanding.
>>
I don't really know much about Supermassive past Until Dawn. Why is Little Hope so unanimously despised?
>>
>>739512417
>Is this Little Hope tier
No. Its alright but the stealth bits are repetitive and they got rid of the staples like the interludes and Curator bits which sucks.
>>
>>739537242
Yeah really, as someone who is neither white nor black I don't get it. It's not even just an American thing. If you look at advertisements from white countries in Europe for example you'd think all their countries were majority black.
>>
>>739522968
It's not Frank Stone or Little Hope tier bad I'd probably put at middle or lower middle

Until Dawn>House of Ashes>=The Quarry>Devil In Me>8020>Man of Medan>Little Hope>Frank Stone
>>
>>739537262

Little Hope has an ending twist that basically amounts to "everything was fake and you wasted your fucking time playing this". To make it worse, the twist is easy to predict halfway through.
>>
>>739537262
The ending basically nulls the whole thing. It's an alright twist in the moment but it completely kills replayability. It also continued the bit from Man of Medan of the events not being some fun horror supernatural thing which hurt it more. If it was played as some sort of cyclical curse with actual monsters and stuff it'd have been one of the better ones I feel.
>>
>>739520945
>reee you need to put someone who looks like me in the video game or you're racist I still won't buy it btw
>also everyone else needs to buy it even if they don't look like me or they're racist too
It's double standards all the way down and people are tired of it.
>>
wait, people actually like house of ashes the best? for me it was the worst of the bunch, there was no point in the game where you were actually scared. the monsters are revealed pretty early on and you know what to expect from then on. there is no thought about what could happen, why stuff happens, no mystery at all. just the generic: here are monsters and you have no feasible way to defend yourself.
not that the other games are masterpieces or anything, but you had the additional layer of what the bad guys backstory could be, why he's doing what he is doing, etc.

re: directive 8020, what a bore. I feel like the writers went "dude, what if it turns out the cast was cloned all along? xD" without really thinking it through all the way. why would the send a presumably giant ship with just 8 crew members and no weapons time and time again without briefing the crew beforehand, if they are clones they are going to act the same way time and time again, why would earth hope that they could defeat the monster after trying x amount of times?

thanks for reading my blog.
