What are your biggest video game regrets? Pic related is mine. Every morning I wake up and whip my back 20 times for falling to this blatant scam.

I didn't spend money on it THANKFULLY because a copy leaked four+ days early. So I played ZTD the weekend before release and what a fucking goddammed disappointment that was. There were a few of us early players in the thread who were inhaling copium about a day-one patch or ending DLC.
But nope.

Space base df9.
Ive hated games i bought before. Ac3 for example. Pacific drive. Shit like that but those only annoy me.
But space base df9 pisses me off to this day.
Double fine put out a game into a pre early access steam and it wasnt finished but they had a good track record and a road map.
Then like two months later with barely any updates they just say
>lol get fucked faggots. We arent finishing it ever. Early alpha is all youll get. Heres the code our fans can finish it and make a mod out of it.

My wife got me dd2. Its not that its bad necessarily its that it wastes so much time doing nothing. The world could stand to be half the size it is.
Without very limited port crystals it takes 4 or 5 hours to walk between the two major cities and the combat doesnt justify that.
At least with campsites the nights arent as punishing.

Probably "Mario Golf Super Rush". What a piece of shit of a game. When I first started playing it, I felt like I was playing a freemium game, because there was nothing to do right off the bat.

I certainly have more than one.

>Elemental: War of Magic
What a fucking piece of shit game. I couldn't even run it in normal mode and had to run it in 2D map mode in order to play it. It was absolutely garbage artistically and technically. The only interesting thing about it was that it was dark fantasy. It has soured me on all fantasy 4x for all time, because almost all of them are less ambitious, less detailed, and somehow more boring than Elemental was with the very notable exception of Endless Legend.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_zD33Hrbo4Y

>Demigod
It was cheap and the giant castle man on the cover looked cool but goddamn what a stupid thing to buy when DoTA was already out and League was just starting to get big.

>Fate of the World
This is my biggest regret. I bought it because promised a CYOA focused on the near-future of Earth and I thought this meant it would go into really Alpha Centauri-like futures with radical transformations of culture, civilization, and the world as you made choices for mankind. Instead, it's just a fucking green propaganda global warming board game. It was the 2010s version of Terra Nil and is just as heavy-handed. Complete fearmongering "edutainment" fail that doesn't even try to show alternative perspectives on global development.

was wondering when this would appear in the thread

the devs actually thought the game was ready for release.
ships have a maximum speed cap of 150 meters per second, and this speed is also slightly dependent on framerate. shit computer? 145 meters per second, maximum.
the game also requires you to travel tens, to hundreds, to thousands of KILOMETERS (thousands of meters) to various points of interest, flying manually and avoiding asteroids, so the end result is you need to travel multiple real life high-stress hours to reach, for example, the center of the Eos asteroid belt. do your best to not get lost in the infinite smoke cloud, you do not have a positioning system!
this is starting area where you're supposed to build your civilian capital ship. capital ships have a warp ability, but that ability is dependent on -- you guessed it! traveling to and recording that location, then returning with the special data-disc item. that you need the rare minerals from the belt in order to build.
all with a regular 150m/s ship... oh, wait, you need to build OPTIMALLY for thrust versus mass, because this game's space has a drag coefficient that brings your ship to a halt. no coasting!

want to go to a moon?
ok, spend literally 48 hours waiting as you travel there. your character (one per account) can only do this one thing the entire time.
just sit in a chair, and wait. unless it's Elysium, which is the closest moon, which has a warp gate... but back then ON RELEASE DAY, you needed rare minerals from the eos belt to build the warp core to enable the warp gate to send you to Elysium. Which had rare minerals for capital ships and best-in-slot tier materials for PvP.

> "yes, this is ready to play on release."
of course later on they'd introduce a generic warp feature for the small ships so they could jump many kilometers at once on a timer for no real cost, but by then the damage was done and the game population was dead.

best ship designer, though.

*and capital ships did not exist on release.
* and easy-build-mode let the player make ships out of pre-made modules and was so horribly bugged it would eat itself. constantly.
* and asteroid density was 1/5th of where it is today
* and there still isn't a feature to mirror your ship in the actual designer
* yes the actual ship designer uses floating point values, so you will NEVER get a perfectly balanced ship
> your primary thrusters are off by 0.001 unit to the forward lower quadrant
> ALL of your maneuvering thrusters are always firing to adjust course to keep the ship flying straight

> the ship continues to drift off-course

hope you know how to copy/paste the ISAN module's YOLOL code some autist made on a third party site, so you can have an actual coordinate system that the devs never put into the game as a strict feature /ship component.
hope you know how to avoid asteroid collisions with a home-made LIDAR system, because you're not getting one for free
yes you will still collide with asteroids even when you think it's perfect
pray you do not find another player because they will kill you for laughs without concern for the health of the game's population (frustrated players stop playing; fewer targets; more grief; more frustration; death spiral)
yes you will respawn at your station and get to shovel shit for another number of hours to try again

YES YOU ARE LITERALLY ONLY GOING TO BE MINING ROCKS, THAT'S ALL YOU'RE DOING, YOU'RE PLAYING DIG-A-HOLE-IN-SPACE SIMULATOR AND SOMEHOW; IT'S NOT FUN AT ALL.

It's a poorly designed game. The drafting is a gimmick that well overstays its welcome. It could easily have been designed where reaching 46 gave you the power to freely draft the house as you go from all available rooms while sacrificing nothing. That one change just improved the middle 3rd of the game. There's no salvaging the shit last 3rd though. Honestly though the biggest problem with BP is the writing. The setting and pacing of the game provided ample opportunity to tell an interesting story and develop interesting characters and instead it was the narrative equivalent of "girl give us nothing". To say nothing of the actual puzzle "quality" in the game. Very mediocre 5/10 at absolute most game. Not even a sum of its parts, all the parts suck ass and it does nothing well.

The entirety of VLR was spent setting up plot points to be paid off in the third game. Then when writing the third game, Uchikoshi got bored and rewrote it from scratch, with the primary aim being to make it a largely standalone story that anyone could jump in at (which worked so well for Mass Effect 3). The result was that ZTD addressed almost none of the hanging reveals from VLR, there was a good deal of character assassination, the main antagonists got offscreened between games, and the true ending of VLR was retconned entirely (Uchikoshi said "it was always supposed to be noncanon metafiction" which he never mentioned before and only started saying when people finished ZTD and started asking where the fuck Kyle was).

In short, VLR was a prologue to a masterpiece game that never existed and ZTD was a hastily rewritten standalone game where some of the characters had the same names as Zero Escape characters.

Trading in a bunch of big-name Nintendo 64 games as a child. I kept most of the obscure ones but it bit me in the ass later in life once I actually had friends.

First time playing Wind Waker and it sucked dick.

Rolled Out is a special case. Dev has no more money left and decides to swap engines. Puts news on hold indefinitely, doesn't even fix the non-functional menus in the meantime that make the current game unplayable.
2026 comes around and the retard on Twitter posts a Monkey Ball 1 and 2 port for browser and later worked on implementing netcode. Zero activity about their commercially sold game on the same account in years. Spends the rest of their time RPing in GMOD.
Never trust ponies.

Now I find out they're also working on some F-Zero fangame? I've never seen a more colossal EA fuckup like this. I'm actually fuming how hard they fumbled getting a Monkey Ball clone to the finish line.

how bioware even exists as a developer after all this time and flop after flop remains a mystery to me.

among my regrets is dawn of war 3. I remember getting hyped many years ago before it came out. developers were putting about a ton of videos talking nonsense about front flipping terminator armored space marines and lascannon teams "hammering the trigger faster and faster" to explain why the lascannons looked like dogshit. just stupid women running their mouths nonstop and when the gameplay finally dropped I just about had a heart attack from how utterly dogshit the game looked. and, behold, it comes out and it was a steaming pile of ork shit just like we all knew it was going to be.

and now here we have a new developer about to drop dawn of war 4 and I'm seeing the same signs I saw for dawn of war 3: stupid women running their mouths, way too much talk and not enough gameplay being shown. all I got is this to say:

Run your car, not your mouth

do not fuck this up again or the franchise is done for and I do mean that.

LOVE seeing stupid freaks seethe about early access. There's nothing wrong with the early access system, but there is something wrong with you. You're stupid. I buy tons of early access games, and every single one has made it to 1.0, because I can correctly identify what is and what isn't worth supporting. But you can't because you are a stupid retard tra-lala~
>>
Eh, I got a few hours of fun with friends from it. Shame it didn't get better but it was fun for a while.

My biggest buyfaggotry regrets:
1. Elite Dangerous
The game is shit and doing all the introductory bullshit took me over two hours so I couldn't refund it.
2. Brigador
Not as fun as I expected and then the dev turned out to be a tremendous shitlib subhuman.
3. Mountain Blade Bonerlord
I got it for mods and then they started releasing constant pointless updates that break all the mods no matter how little they change. None of the good mods are workshop exclusive either so I would have been better off just pirating so I didn't have to worry about updates.
4. Tomb Raider I-III Remastered
Another game ruined by updates that I would have been better off pirating. The fucking retards fired the original team that developed the remaster only to hire some jeet tier vibecoders that ruined the game with bugs and AI slop years after it released.

I don't have any regrets because I always pirate before I buy and I highly recommend everyone else to do the same, can't get fooled if you test what you're getting before purchasing.
The only exception I would say is the C&C collection that's sold currently, for whatever reason I didn't realise that the faggots at EA removed the networking features.
I already own the games on discs anyway, so I don't know why I even bothered purchasing the digital version.

Gensokyo Night Festival
The developer disappeared and was never found. Most likely a case of sudden death since he very suddenly stopped posting on all his accounts.

The only reason to buy early access to me is if the price is expected to go up when it comes out and 1.0 already has a release date. It becomes a preorder discount.

>>739516986
I don't know, For Honor maybe? Bought it full price on launch because my friends convinced me to. It was incredibly broken to the point where all of us getting into the same party was almost impossible and at least a solid third of the games we managed to play crashed or failed due to networking reasons. Complete dogshit. On top of that and on top of it already being a full-price game, you could also pay more to skip unlocking stronger gear so it also had fucking P2W elements in a B2P game. Just utter dogshit.
