>>739523741There was that one reddit cuck. Hilarious.
>>739523623No. Collecting is the absolute foulest """""""hobby"""""""" there is.
Why collecting every game? Including shovelware? I just own my top 10
Sometimes but I sell half of my games back once I'm done, it's the cheapest way to get console games for the switch
>>739523623I'm not autistic enough to collect this shit. I sell my old consoles and games. If I ever want to revisit the classics, then I can just a rom and play it on an emulator.
>>739523623Of courseRate my taste, /v/
>>739524808holy fucking sn0y.Kill yourself for enabling far Ieft sociaIist corps like Sony.
>>739524808>No Final FantasyYou are clearly gay.
>>739523623Kwanzaa was literally invented in the late 1960s.
>>739525937Also it was rooted in Judaism. The Kwanzaa candelabra is a 9 candle Menorah with two broken off at the ends to make 7, same approach, and celebrated at the same time as Hanukkah and often joint celebrations.
>>7395248081/10 technically it's 3/38 but i rounded up because i'm nice
I consider physical copies of old games on same tier as magnet on your fridge to a place you've been to. The thing doesn't matter, the experience is. While this comparison is flawed, as you could maybe compare emulation to just looking up pictures on the internet, it doesn't hold. Both require "being" there. Re-creating the one and only true experience is always just fluff.

>>739523623>You DO buy your games, right? For older hardware, I just mod my consoles and play games off a HDD/USB/SD.I would like to buy more PS2 games, with the plan of replacing the games I have downloaded once I get them physically, but prices have gone way up to the point that I just cannot justify spending that much. Every game should cost $5.
>>739523623>buy games>start wondering how i'm gonna find space for them all

>>739524808>no vanillaware 0/10

>>739530278CringeYou can neither read or play these cards.
Yep, I mostly collect physically. If anyone wonders where Dread is, it's in the steel book.>>739524808Seems like a good collection, but I don't really have an interest in most JRPGs aside from (some) Fire Emblem games. Nice Ace Attorney collection. Anyway most incels who cry about physical collectors are just dirt poor, or miserable water-only drinkers. it's pretty simple. Couldn't be me, I enjoy brandy.
>>739529061I am not going to say that.
>>739531568why not?
>>739530856Don't care about reading them. The textures mog englishslop.
>>739523623I own 2 physical games. A Japanese cartridge of Final Fantasy Tactics Advance for speedrunning, and a first-run of FF7 in its original crystal disc case, bought from Best Buy (receipt still in the case). Why would I need more?
>>739523741Hope that insurance covers the damage because your fucking house burned down. Video games aren't going to be the main concern at that point.
>>739523623Anti-gaming. Real gamers play on emulators because it's 100% about gaming and not your delusional nostalgia.Would buy this room for giggles if I become multimillionaire.
>>739523623yeah
>>739531961You can opt for insurance that are specifically for valuable collections, art, and stuff.
>>739531002I'm tempted to throw out all my switch cases and just display the cartridges. The cases are trash empty plastic and they don't make good covers anymore anyway. And when stacked all you see is red.
>>739532121No one gives a shit. You bought inferior versions of PC games that you can pirate for free.
>>739531002having a namco game in there ruins everything and makes you look like a traitor
>>739532071based
>>739532205>pirateI'm not brown
>>739532340You still collect much-inferior versions of PC games that you couldve bought for almost nothing on Steam/other services.
>>739523623I used to think about curating a small collection, but then I realized a few things. 1. You can't take them with you when you die.2. Your loved ones have to figure out what to do with all of your shit when you do die.3. People and retail stores like Gamestop ask way too much for used games. And that's not even getting into the scam that is grading.4. The gaming industry has been going downhill for over a decade at this point. They're asking for more and more money for poorly optimized, agenda pushing slop.5. I can emulate almost every game in existence. And it's free other than buying the PC or device to emulate them on.
Gonna be funny when that dude's wife leaves she getting all that and it's all going into the dumpster.
>>739532205I only buy Switch exclusives though?
>>739523623>You DO buy your games, right? No, no I don't. Every game in that pic can easily fit onto a drive that's smaller than a credit card, and for free.Shit like that pic isn't about playing or even collecting games; it's about guys who were sexually abused as kids try to cope with their arrested development.
>>739532714Good, that is sensible. Switch era had like 10 good exclusives though.
>>739523623Think of all the money and space you'd save by putting all those shitty old games you'll never play onto a USB stick.
why would you waste money and space buying cars, when you can just jump the turnstile and ride the subway for free.
>>739532272It's a pretty shit game in hindsight (it had terrible slowdown on certain tracks and N3DS doesn't fix it). That said, I have no particular loyalty to Nintendo, especially when we're talking Nintendo EAD developed games. I prefer 2nd / 3rd party developers like Retro, Intelligent Systems, Grezzo, Mercury Steam, and Koei Tecmo. Nintendo EAD rarely makes good games anymore, although I'm excited for Starfox. I didn't buy Donkey Kong because I did not enjoy Odyssey, which I sold (something digital collectors generally can't do).
I have ~1500 games. A good 300 of them are Limited Editions. this pic represents around 1/6th of the collection. Started in 2014. I think i may be at the tail end of my collecting excursion. Work a lot and hardly have energy to get through them. Feels like im just buying to add to the pile now. I am still very proud of what i have. biggest gripes are opening a game thats been on the shelf when im rdy to finally play it and the dlc codes inside log since expired lost my job last year and was able to eek out $4k out of my collection to keep my afloat. I regret some of those sales. I sold my xbox copy of Spikeout for $150 or so. Some guy made a youtube video on it and now it goes for like $300 In another 10 years ill be 50 so, i havent decided on what im going to do. might start selling off huge chunks of it. I have no one to pass it on to and less and less time to be revisting older games ive already put a couple of playthroughs in
>>739533823>the dlc codes inside long since expiredooofthanks, modern gaming
>>739533823Where do you even get enough money to sustain a collection like that
I've gone past my collecting phase and now am striving towards the owning (almost) nothing and be happy phase.Keep the original hardware, but all the games are on a flashcard or pirated onto a HDD. A lot cheaper, but just as good 99% of the time.>>739534714If you have a decent job and no other hobby/family, you end up with a lot of excess cash. Or maybe he's dogshit at finances.
Why would I want a collection? Serious question
>>739535051If you can't answer that question yourself, you are still a child, or simply stupid. You're asking someone to give you a subjective answer. Fuck off.
>>739535159Yeah, its the child who doesn't see a point in hoarding plastic. They're the stupid one.
>>739534714
>>739535218"My opinion is correct and you are dumb"Fuck you too, have fun trying to sell your steam collection.
>>739524808>Bloodborne and Last of Us the only ones with the "Only on Playstation" tagreality copies shitpost...
>>739523623>Owning gameszis is unacceptable
>>739523623Given nearly everything I've ever had away.Libraries are good. Anyone that likes anime etc wrong doesn't deserve any good at all.
I was enamored with "collecting culture" for awhile, but after awhile it turns out I am just not a collector at heart. Bought a lot of stuff I don't need.I am just "game player" with a slight preference for physical media. But not enough for me to pick it over the $7 download anymore and fight Limited Run scalpers on eBay and the Whatnot app or obsess over a Trifold or Yfold seal or whatever.
>>739523623Any game past like 2014 even if its on a disc you dont really own. Thats when they started having the disc be part of the game with the rest using a digital token from the disc to download the rest from their server
>>739536703It's not that. And you'll have those people in here dicksucking doesitplay.org before long. There is some version of the game on the disc in 80%+ of cases that can be ran without updates. But the fact of the matter is I'd just rather have no game instead of a version without the day 1 patch. The Xbox 360 and PS3 have had their servers up for 20 years now and everything can still be patched. These physical prepper nutters fantasize about some far flung future where patch servers go down and they will be gods because they can play the shitty disc build of Silent Hill F or whatever. But the fact is you won't live forever. You are not some librarian or cultural archivist. You are just "some gamer". And the piracy community will find some way for these games to live on forever digitally (which is the only way a natively digital medium can live on).
>>739523623I will own nothing and be happy.
>>739523623I don't know a single person who actually does this but I've always wanted to ask one of them what they get out of it. What is the point in hoarding a bunch of shit you're never going to play/watch?
Yes.
>>739536973I put my full faith in the hegemony and continued support of xbox and playstation
>>739536973Collectorcucks don't even play games. Collecting games and playing games and talking about games is three different hobbies.
>>739538214What about cheevo hunters? Will you buy their xbox one with a bajillion cheevo points for $30,000?
I feel I have more physical games than any "collector" has ever posted in any thread and I don't even like physical. Like there's hundreds of games stuffed into boxes in my closet which I will never play again. Even games I own I prefer to just emulate.
>>739534714>where do you even get a few thousand dollars spread out over a decade?Come on man, if you're seriously asking this then you desperately need to get your shit together.
>>739538524Have you ever considered pooping into a game box and trying to sell it someone?
>>739523623Rarely nowadays because i play on pc and not many games get physical pc releases.Did buy picrel though
>>739538285Achievements are just a way to squeeze more time out of a game you enjoy, I don't know why they make certain people seethe so much.
>>739524808Inoffensively boring. You don't have shit taste, but you don't have great or based taste either.
>>739538581My poop is more than what retro collectors deserve. It's just odd. I must have like 500 physical games 5 feet away from me. And I just emulate. Which I can legally do, because the physical games are in effect just impermanent licenses to play the games.
>>739534714Did you miss the part where he said "Started in 2014"? If he doesn't have a shit job and lives by himself, it's more than possible to achieve that.Only real problem is finding 1500 games worth owning.
>>739537721I miss mafia threads...
Some stuff I acquired recently. I only bother to play physical games on systems that are a pain or inaccurate to emulate like Saturn or Xbox 360.Currently going through Dragon Master Silk.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9_kq48VsTFcThat Rayearth was also only $16 lol.
>>739539321Everything worth playing on 360 works in xenia canary just fine and everything of value on saturn is just bad arcade ports, everything else is kusoge
>>739539610No, Xenia is not even close to perfect
>>739540196Watch, it will say that "perfection" in emulation doesn't matter. The icing on the cake is that it criticized Saturn ports' accuracy but praised a shitty emulator. lol
>>739532461imagine being so poor this is how you spend your effort.
>>739523623I pirate anything more than 15 years old. IP laws are allowed monopolies to make sure original creators gain from their creation. After the original people are no longer involved or receiving royalties, the copyright only serves as an avenue for lawyers and businessmen to leech billions off what rightfully belongs in the public domain. Disney made his name off folktales like Cinderella and Alice in Wonderland, and yet to this day Mickey Mouse is privately owned? Fucking bullshit and you mindless consoomers support it. After 15 years, a work should be free to copy, modify, and distribute as the public sees fit.
Switch collectors are mentally ill. Buying the plastic case version of 5/10 indie games and ports of PC games that you could play on a used 2015 PC with actually good quality like youre not feeling cucked and still have couch gaming.
>>739539610Nope
>>739540291>the mental gymnastics a pirate pulls before pirating the game of some random independant developer trying to not be a slave at walmart
>>739540196The real issue is the OG Xbox emulation. We have lightweight awesome upscale on PS2 and GC, but the Xbox cant even play properly with horrible resolution.
>>739540472True, but getting actual cartridges of exclusives instead of key cards is gonna be a hot commodity in the future. (When comparing Switch 1 collecting to 2).
>>739540973Imagine if you were a tranny that chopped your dick off 20 years ago. Do you think you could ever be convinced that you made a bad decision or that its even debatable? that is how PCfags are with physical games. Its incomprehensible to them at this point. no use reasoning
>>739541096I’d rather not imagine that.
>>739523623The only game "collection" I have is from my childhood. I haven't bought a game in decades.
