No. Collecting is the absolute foulest """""""hobby"""""""" there is.

Why collecting every game? Including shovelware? I just own my top 10
>>
Sometimes but I sell half of my games back once I'm done, it's the cheapest way to get console games for the switch

Kwanzaa was literally invented in the late 1960s.
>>
>>739525937
Also it was rooted in Judaism. The Kwanzaa candelabra is a 9 candle Menorah with two broken off at the ends to make 7, same approach, and celebrated at the same time as Hanukkah and often joint celebrations.

I consider physical copies of old games on same tier as magnet on your fridge to a place you've been to. The thing doesn't matter, the experience is. While this comparison is flawed, as you could maybe compare emulation to just looking up pictures on the internet, it doesn't hold. Both require "being" there. Re-creating the one and only true experience is always just fluff.

For older hardware, I just mod my consoles and play games off a HDD/USB/SD.
I would like to buy more PS2 games, with the plan of replacing the games I have downloaded once I get them physically, but prices have gone way up to the point that I just cannot justify spending that much. Every game should cost $5.

Seems like a good collection, but I don't really have an interest in most JRPGs aside from (some) Fire Emblem games. Nice Ace Attorney collection.
Anyway most incels who cry about physical collectors are just dirt poor, or miserable water-only drinkers. it's pretty simple. Couldn't be me, I enjoy brandy.

>>
>>739523623
I used to think about curating a small collection, but then I realized a few things.
1. You can't take them with you when you die.
2. Your loved ones have to figure out what to do with all of your shit when you do die.
3. People and retail stores like Gamestop ask way too much for used games. And that's not even getting into the scam that is grading.
4. The gaming industry has been going downhill for over a decade at this point. They're asking for more and more money for poorly optimized, agenda pushing slop.
5. I can emulate almost every game in existence. And it's free other than buying the PC or device to emulate them on.
>>
Gonna be funny when that dude's wife leaves she getting all that and it's all going into the dumpster.
>>
>>739532205
I only buy Switch exclusives though?
>>
>>739523623
>You DO buy your games, right?
No, no I don't. Every game in that pic can easily fit onto a drive that's smaller than a credit card, and for free.

Shit like that pic isn't about playing or even collecting games; it's about guys who were sexually abused as kids try to cope with their arrested development.
>>
>>739532714
Good, that is sensible. Switch era had like 10 good exclusives though.
>>
>>739523623
Think of all the money and space you'd save by putting all those shitty old games you'll never play onto a USB stick.
>>
why would you waste money and space buying cars, when you can just jump the turnstile and ride the subway for free.
>>
>>739532272
It's a pretty shit game in hindsight (it had terrible slowdown on certain tracks and N3DS doesn't fix it). That said, I have no particular loyalty to Nintendo, especially when we're talking Nintendo EAD developed games. I prefer 2nd / 3rd party developers like Retro, Intelligent Systems, Grezzo, Mercury Steam, and Koei Tecmo. Nintendo EAD rarely makes good games anymore, although I'm excited for Starfox. I didn't buy Donkey Kong because I did not enjoy Odyssey, which I sold (something digital collectors generally can't do).

I have ~1500 games. A good 300 of them are Limited Editions. this pic represents around 1/6th of the collection. Started in 2014.

I think i may be at the tail end of my collecting excursion. Work a lot and hardly have energy to get through them. Feels like im just buying to add to the pile now. I am still very proud of what i have.

biggest gripes are opening a game thats been on the shelf when im rdy to finally play it and the dlc codes inside log since expired

lost my job last year and was able to eek out $4k out of my collection to keep my afloat. I regret some of those sales. I sold my xbox copy of Spikeout for $150 or so. Some guy made a youtube video on it and now it goes for like $300

In another 10 years ill be 50 so, i havent decided on what im going to do. might start selling off huge chunks of it. I have no one to pass it on to and less and less time to be revisting older games ive already put a couple of playthroughs in
>>
>>739533823
>the dlc codes inside long since expired

thanks, modern gaming
>>
>>739533823
Where do you even get enough money to sustain a collection like that
>>
I've gone past my collecting phase and now am striving towards the owning (almost) nothing and be happy phase.
Keep the original hardware, but all the games are on a flashcard or pirated onto a HDD. A lot cheaper, but just as good 99% of the time.

>>739534714
If you have a decent job and no other hobby/family, you end up with a lot of excess cash. Or maybe he's dogshit at finances.
>>
Why would I want a collection? Serious question
>>
>>739535051
If you can't answer that question yourself, you are still a child, or simply stupid. You're asking someone to give you a subjective answer. Fuck off.

I was enamored with "collecting culture" for awhile, but after awhile it turns out I am just not a collector at heart. Bought a lot of stuff I don't need.

I am just "game player" with a slight preference for physical media. But not enough for me to pick it over the $7 download anymore and fight Limited Run scalpers on eBay and the Whatnot app or obsess over a Trifold or Yfold seal or whatever.
>>
>>739523623
Any game past like 2014 even if its on a disc you dont really own. Thats when they started having the disc be part of the game with the rest using a digital token from the disc to download the rest from their server
>>
>>739536703
It's not that. And you'll have those people in here dicksucking doesitplay.org before long. There is some version of the game on the disc in 80%+ of cases that can be ran without updates.

But the fact of the matter is I'd just rather have no game instead of a version without the day 1 patch. The Xbox 360 and PS3 have had their servers up for 20 years now and everything can still be patched.

These physical prepper nutters fantasize about some far flung future where patch servers go down and they will be gods because they can play the shitty disc build of Silent Hill F or whatever.

But the fact is you won't live forever. You are not some librarian or cultural archivist. You are just "some gamer". And the piracy community will find some way for these games to live on forever digitally (which is the only way a natively digital medium can live on).

My poop is more than what retro collectors deserve.

It's just odd. I must have like 500 physical games 5 feet away from me. And I just emulate. Which I can legally do, because the physical games are in effect just impermanent licenses to play the games.

Some stuff I acquired recently. I only bother to play physical games on systems that are a pain or inaccurate to emulate like Saturn or Xbox 360.

I pirate anything more than 15 years old. IP laws are allowed monopolies to make sure original creators gain from their creation. After the original people are no longer involved or receiving royalties, the copyright only serves as an avenue for lawyers and businessmen to leech billions off what rightfully belongs in the public domain. Disney made his name off folktales like Cinderella and Alice in Wonderland, and yet to this day Mickey Mouse is privately owned? Fucking bullshit and you mindless consoomers support it. After 15 years, a work should be free to copy, modify, and distribute as the public sees fit.
>>
Switch collectors are mentally ill. Buying the plastic case version of 5/10 indie games and ports of PC games that you could play on a used 2015 PC with actually good quality like youre not feeling cucked and still have couch gaming.
